Great coffee, amazing stuffed croissants and very friendly service with a great playlist in the background. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're in Chester and looking for speciality coffee.

Slightly disappointed with this cafe. The coffee was on the better side but the cafe felt cramped. We sat in the back which was partly used for storage, that didn't add to the ambience! The batista was fine but not particularly friendly or helpful. Fairly expensive for what we got too.

Top service and lovely little shop. It is always very warming to go there. No pun intended 😂 I purchase the in house roasted beans which are very tasty.

What a great little find just outside the city centre. A lovely coffee house that does sandwiches and omelets- delicious. The proprietor is Turkish and really makes a good coffee and provides a very welcoming environment. Definitely worth a visit or two! The place itself is quite small but there is seating at the back so plenty of space to share a coffee and cake (especially the Portuguese tart) and some good banter with friends and family - hope you enjoy it as much as we did 😀 x

This was our third visit to this wonderful little coffee shop. The thing that makes this shop so special is that the product i.e coffee and cakes are our outstanding! The only thing that matches the quality of the product are the people who work there and the ones who visit their. The owners are a husband and wife team that make you feel special when you come to the shop they are always willing to discuss any dietary needs and to cater for those so thank you! Our only regret is that we live so far away that we can't often make the trip from Cambridge to Chester routinely for this cafe. We would also like to make a a special hello to David a fellow customer that we had the acquaintance of meeting while visiting the shop. Thank you again !

Evie , Ella , Shirley and myself are regular guests at Obscure Coffee on our weekend walks around our beautiful city of Chester Obscure is a small and welcoming coffee shop serving a outstanding Ethiopian coffee that is smooth with a hint of bitterness Expertly served in china cups The host offers a small selection of cakes a treats My only suggestion would be that a larger selection of savory treats would be good? We will definitely return

We have been going to Obscure Coffee for a while now and thought we would finally hit the keyboard and post a review. Its a lovely snug place owned and run by James and his wife/girlfriend and James the toy poodle who watches customers come and go. Its not a wide range of food that they offer but the quality is right up there with award winning sauage rolls and cakes both in vegatarian and non vegatarian versions. Of course the coffee itself is superb an we could never fault this. At our last visit James offered up a shredded chicken coated in citrus mayonaise with greenery mixed in, and all served on a soft bagel. Lovely! I suggest giving it a go and remember to say hello to the both James's :-)

A fabulous find! Outstanding coffee served by delightful staff in a well-appointed environment. Having a ‘thing’ about pastel de nata I was impressed by those served here. Flakey pastry with a custard filling that was not over sweet and neither sloppy nor cloying. muito bem!

Been a few times now, such a lovely atmosphere and the coffee is unbelievable!!! Looks small from outside but has a few places in the back which is very chilled. Also has a small menu of homemade wraps and sausage rolls which are out of this world. Cakes are on the menu too!! Not far from the river on lower bridge street, well worth a visit if you like your coffee

On our way from the lakeside car park up to the city centre, my wife and I saw this new coffee shop and decided to try it, instead of going to one we have been to multiple times. There was a great welcome. The seating has an air of being in your own lounge. It is quite relaxed. The coffee was really nice. Mine was a latté, photo attached. Not too strong. We got taking to a local, who told us that he also liked this coffee shop very much because you can take your dog in.Good service, good atmosphere, priced ok.

A small and intimate space that packs a big punch when it comes to their coffee.Nestled seconds from Chester’s historic city walls, Obscure Coffee simply oozes cool. The stylish coffee cups are joyful pops of yellow against the dark and decadent interior with the dimly lit snug offering a particularly cosy retreat. The standout feature, however, is the coffee which is quite frankly outstanding; made with such passion and precision that you’ll want to come back every single day - and you should! Nick and his team offer a warm welcomeand an enthusiasm for the humble bean which is completely infectious - you come in for a simple flat white and leave wanting to preach the coffee gospel to everyone you meet!Their small but quality selection of pastries & cakes are an absolute delight and compliment their hot and cold drinks selection perfectly.Did I also mention they are dog friendly? Eco friendly? Baby friendly? They’re just a damn friendly bunch!Cannot recommend this gorgeous place enough - just go!

Nick and Dom have created a temple to the great bean that does Chester proud. I rate this new place as the best of the new wave of excellent coffee focused cafes in Chester. Coffee is front and centre. A small, but quality, range of cake and pastries round out the selection. Sparse but functional fit out completes the offer. The boys deserve success. Just go.

If you want great coffee (better than the Jaunty Goat!), amazing fresh cakes (ask for a croiffin and refuse to leave until they sell you one!), and friendly owners/staff that are passionate about coffee, then this is the place to go. If you don’t, and you are instead a fan of the mediocre and the bland, go to Starbucks (and hide your face in shame), or just go home and make yourself a mug of Mellow Birds.

Obsure Coffee is a welcome addition to the growing number of independent coffee shops in Chester city centre. Behind its modest frontage lies a small space, discretely decorated in a dark palette and furnished with contemporary style furniture (this elegant sense of style applies also to the crockery used to serve drinks and food). Nick (the owner) and his team will provide you with a warm welcome and are happy to share their knowledge about coffee if you have any questions. As a confirmed drinker of Black Americano, it’s reassuring to know that any time I visit Obscure I will be served a subtly flavoursome drink - not the hot brown water of the same name served up by many of the major coffee chains. If you care about your coffee or tea then this is the place to go in Chester. In addition, if you care about polite service, an ambience that is original and relaxing (not to say dog-friendly too) then this is the place to seek out, only a stone’s throw from the city centre shops. When I was in Obscure yesterday Nick was saying that things have been going well for them since the shop opened before Christmas. Long may that continue in 2019 and beyond!

Saw that this place had opened near my office recently so thought I'd pop in for a coffee one morning (I'd already briefly been into buy a chocolate slice recently)Decided this morning to head back in and purchased a cappuccino, and an maple/pecan pastry. Both were excellent, the coffee was smooth and full of flavour and the pastry was light and fresh (and delicious).(It's also nice to see that the coffee cup and lid are biodegradable)

Friendly local bar serving fine wine local beers, ciders and ales and guest beers and ales from around the U.K. excellent gin selection and Whiskeys too. Quiz night on Tuesday! Great for meeting friends and used often by cycling groups as they pass through! Opened in July/August 2022 and has served the community well. Dog friendly and children too. Recent addition is some Cheshire farm ice cream which is a favourite for the children during the hot weather. Well worth popping in for a pint of three and for the wine drinkers there is a good selection of fine wines.

Laura's effervescent charisma has been a huge loss to Handbridge since Meltdown's closure, but will no doubt be a giant gain to whatever comes next for the (former) Toastie Queen. I say former, as there's one final chance to taste her magic creations before the apron is hung up for good at fellow Chester indie scene star That Beer Place on Foregate St tomorrow, which I wouldn't miss for all the cheese in Cheshire...

My friend and I had popped in for a drink earlier in the day and found it to be such a lovely place we decided to go back for our lunch. That decision turned out to be a great one! My friend chose the eggs benedict and told me it was absolutely delicious, my choice of mushrooms on toast I believe was an even choice as it was so exquisite i found myself taking my time to eat it so I can continue to enjoy it. The people who work there are very helpful and welcoming, I am already looking forward to going back there.
