Obon Sushi & Grill in Richmond upon Thames

Lovely place. The decor is a bit plain and cold feeling but the food was nice. I got some maki and nigiri sushi. Friend loves his deep fried veggie and fried squid maki. The quality of the fish was good. We requested more salmon on the mixed sushi platter and they did it accordingly which was lovely. The miso soup was hot which was great. It was nice but I wouldn't say amazing. All is all it was nice but not amazing. I would say perhaps a bit on the expensive side.

4.5, hard to find good Japanese food in London, let alone one which isn't in central London. For the location and price the quality is great, and the bento box lunch menu had more than enough food. Will be returning.

Obon sushi and grill does a little bit more than it says on the tin, offering a cook-it-yourself table BBQ, and tempura from the kitchen plus some interesting starters and sharing bits. It’s a perfect (little: 24 couverts) neighbourhood restaurant complementing the more familiar (Italian, Thai, Indian, Turkish) fare on Teddington High Street. Muted colours, minimalist table settings, semi industrial lighting and exposed air vents together with rough concrete walls give it a slightly cold vibe when viewed from the outside but the welcome couldn’t be warmer from the serving staff (2?) The menu is actually quite wide and can thus cater to a variety of wallets: you could spend a lot on BBQ steaks and a bottle of wine or just have a simple noodle dish and a bottle of Kirin Ichiban. Be careful what order though as portions are generous. The sashimi was excellent (tuna, salmon (two sorts), bream, octopus and a couple of other white fish) and plenty for two. The vegetable tempura was very good indeed, and made better when accompanied by a couple of huge tempura prawns. Maki (avocado, deep fried cuttlefish and spicy mayo) again very good as was the deep fried soft-shelled crab. Surprise hit of the meal was the seaweed salad! So, not Kai Seki cooking, nor just a sushi place but the kind of small neighbourhood restaurant you’d be delighted to find in Japan.

My wife and i have visited Obon on three occasion now, the quality of the fish is amazing and highly recommend the nigiri set. The addition of the Japanese BBQ now makes the place even more appealing, will certainly be back.

Hidden jewel of a place! Absolutely amazing service and even more exceptional food! We had sushi and grill and both were excellent. The homemade pickles and kimchi are possibly the best I’ve ever had. I would return every chance I have.

Overpriced for a Japanese canteen… We were really looking forward to going given the positive reviews. We were so disappointed. The food was ok. The service though just wasn’t good enough for £180 for 2 people for 4 plates of sushi and sashimi. The room is sooooo cold, the wine is overpriced (£60 for an £11 Petit Chablis!) and the service is not forthcoming. We had to ask for someone to take our order, we had to ask for soy sauce, etc. Just disappointing.

I have visited this restaurant quite frequently over the last 18 months. The bill was about 200 pounds on each occasion. I tipped our waiters 20 pounds on top of the service charge. The last time I visited your restaurant was when I entertained a friend who had driven from Hampshire. I reserved a table for 3 people at 6 pm. I was, as usual, informed that should I be late the reservation would be cancelled. At ten past 7 when we ordered more sashimi and sake our waiter informed us that we only had 15 minutes before we had to leave. No warning. No apology. I asked why nothing had been said when I made the reservation. The waiter informed me that he hadn't taken the booking.... To be asked to part with 200 pounds for feeling embarrassed, hungry and unwelcome is, to my mind, immoral.

I visited this lovely place with my family and enjoyed a delightful meal. Although I'm not a sushi enthusiast, I ordered a grilled chicken bento box, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice—it was incredibly delicious! My family found sushi and sashimi absolutely amazing because of their freshness and quality. With everyone satisfied with their meals, we're already looking forward to returning to explore more of their menu!

Food here is actually very good in spite of small menu, service always efficient, just ambience is cold and so is the temperature inside. Still, we return because it’s worth it!

Excellent authentic japanese food, lovely environment and nice staff. Recommend the chicken teryaki and octopus balls. Would visit again definetly!

I was looking for a nice Japanese restaurant to have family dinner for my daughter's 15th birthday. She was a fan of Japanese food and the restaurant was a perfect place with superb taste for freah sushi and the best grilled food I have ever had. The food is a very high standard as well as the customer service. We will come back here again very soon.

We tried their lunch set menus with some extra dishes. The quality of sushi was beyond our expectations. The raw fish cut portions were very generous and so fresh, too. Skewers, Tempura, and Udon were all yummy. Grilled chicken was especially delicious. Nice contemporary interior, super polite and attentive service. We definitely had a 5 star dining experience in OBON. Highly recommended!

Had lunch at Ubon yesterday. Sashimi was really fresh. I recommend the pickle salad to go with Sashimi. Staff and owners are very friendly too. Will head back for dinner sometime soon!

Don’t be fooled by the cafeteria style interior - this is a high quality restaurant and the food was exquisite! Would highly recommend.

We were looking forward to our 4th visit to Obon, and had a lovely, tasty dinner that eventually cost £48.40 for the two of us. By eventually, I mean this: When we received the bill, it was for £107.00, and contained many items that we didn't order, so before delving into it too far, we alerted the waiter, who saw the mistake, returned with a new bill for £77.00, but this bill had Sauvignon added as well as something else that we didn't eat, and as we don't drink alcohol, I definitely wasn't up for paying for it. The waiter then brought us back a finally corrected bill for £48.40, which of course included the usual 10% service charge that I didn't argue about, although I did think it was a bit cheeky of them, considering all the overcharging... I am really sorry this happened, as the food is genuinely very tasty, but I'm now reluctant to return, as I'm under the impression that if we don't spend at least £100 for a meal for two adults...

Sashimi was not fresh. Tuna tasted off. The grilled ell felt and tasted like it came out of the microwave.

This was a random "walk-in", it was a hot and humid evening and our criteria was air-conditioning and a light meal. The icy blast of cool air on my face as we entered meant that our seach was over; lets see how the menu fares. The restraunt is cozy with around eight tables, as it filled with patrons the acoustics made it difficult for conversation; the table next to us was in a corner and thier voices seemed amplified by the location. After a look through the menu, the set-menu appeared to fit the criteria of a "light meal". The choices were any three starters with any main dish and a bowl of rice. The dishes arrived in stages which allowed us to savour the flavours without rushing. At the end of the meal we felt pleasantly satisfied and not overly full; just what we wanted on this hot sticky evening.

Amazing food, all very fresh. The food came as and when it was ready but this is because it’s all made fresh to order. Everything was delicious!

Took my family to the Teddington branch of Obon this evening for a dinner to celebrate the end of GCSE's and A level exams for two of my children. It was a truly a special occasion with wonderful ambience, service and food. We ordered a variety of dishes and it was all excellent -fresh and superbly cooked. The stand out food was the black cod and the ika (Squid) tempura, but I felt like I would have enjoyed anything from the menu.

Had another wonderful evening in Obon, Teddington. The food was superb! Service was excellent as always. They never disappoint. Looking forward to our next visit!!!

Wow what a gem nestled in on Teddington Highstreet. I visited the restaurant with a friend and was blown away with choice and variety of cuisine coupled with quality and good customer service. Definitely be back !!! Hats off to the chef !

Can here with my family. Loved all the food especially the sashimi. We got the special Blufin tuna which was delicious. Great atmosphere and service was wonderful.

Made a booking over the phone. Turned up. Got told they are full, can’t have us, claiming we booked somewhere else. At no point they offered an alternative. They could do better if they had tables for 2 rather than only tables for 4 only taken by 2 people …

A Japanese restaurant recommended by a friend who lives in London. The environment is comfortable, the boss and waiters are very enthusiastic, and the key is to eat very authentic sushi! The sashimi is very thick and very fresh. Every bite is satisfying 🥰🥰🥰 Highly recommended!

Definitely the best sushi restaurant you can experience at this price level and the level above. The quality of fish is unrivalled and the chef is very skilled.

Food was absolutely amazing! Both from the sushi and the grill. Particular standouts to me were the grilled chicken skewers and the nigiri platter, just wow! The salmon belly melted right in your mouth and the Tuna was out of this world. Definitely recommend, the staff and chefs were all super friendly and welcoming, and overall the setting was relaxing and happy. Will be going back for sure!

Very tasty food and good service. We had the grilled eel menu and the raw fish selection for 2 people, which was quite large - raw octupus and just one type of fish would have been enough for us. We would like to return for the soup and lunch specials.

Obon is everything foodie are looking for, subtle seasonings, relaxing ambiance and an excellent service. I really like that restaurant would come everyday if it was not so quickly fully booked so better to make your reservation in advance!

I heard Obon Kingston is good. So I been trying to book a table and they seemed always busy. Me and my wife decided go to teddington branch. It was worth travelling from north Cheam Great Sashimi and udon broth is very nice. It’s not over seasoned ,so authentic.

Fabulous food. Sushi is so fresh and delicious. I would like to come back to try this lovely food again. Reasonable price too! Also, the manager is so kind and friendly which make the atmosphere even better.

I can say it was a great experience. Obon is a restaurant that I visit every time when I come to the UK. Im really happy to hear that Obon has opened a second store in Teddington. I guarantee that the quality of sushi is the best in the UK. The quality and taste of the fish are top!. The thickness of the sushi is really thick and fresh than anywhere else. I would like to come again even the price goes higher.

I recently went to a Michelin Japanese and I can say I’d rather not go there and just spent the money with Obon instead. Yes the menu isn’t extensive but everything is done perfectly and the quality of food is amazing too. I loved the yakitori skewers, they were so juicy and tender (I wasn’t particularly thrilled by the quail eggs tho). The sushi and sashimi were fresh, both grilled eel and sea bass were also cooked just right and melting in the mouth. And the starters such as takoyaki, tempura, even the salad and pickles were delicious too. I have already been there twice in 2 weeks and I would recommend anyone in and around the area to visit (be sure to book as the restaurant is not big). An improvement would be the desserts, there’s not a lot of choices and the dorayaki seemed shop bought and microwaved so it was half warm and half cold (but I still went back so don’t let that put you off too)

The food is excellent, and the service is good. We have two kids with us at dinner. But, you will face a “loyalty” customer(because she told us she is a loyalty customer. So she has some privilege？）who shuts your children “out”by her noise level requirements. Who wants a “loyalty” customer to judge/ blames your five years old children?

My family and I enjoy dining at Obon every single time. The service, food and the interior are all excellent. Our personal favourite dishes being the sushi and the grilled salmon. I would definitely visit Obon again!

A new Japanese restaurant in Teddington, which had the most authentic Japanese food I've had in London (as in, closest tasting to what I actually ate in Japan). The individual skewers are a good size and so delicious, the chicken yakitori was really juicy, the sushi is very filling, and they have such interesting fillings including grilled eel. I was really impressed with this restaurant and the bill was less than I expected (£40 a head including service, for a lot of food). They also do £20 set lunch menus. I will definitely be back.

I always love Obon's sushi and sashimi. Now I found the grill dishes are also great!! Obon Teddington is available for lunch from Tuesday to Saturday and we are very happy with their lunch sets.

This is it. This is what Teddington High Street needed. Obon feels both fresh and authentic. We had the Udon Lunch Bowl, which was home to a fantastic broth and succulent noodles.The accompanying prawn tempura was airy and light, the best I've had in a while. Wrapped up with two unique scoops of ice cream; sesame and green tea. It was a delightful expierence, look forward to returning.

Great service, fresh sushi, lovely setting. A great addition to Teddington High St and the best Japanese food we’ve had in the area. The scallop skewers were our favourite!
