Oakey Smokey in Leicester

Our first time at Oakey Smokey and it couldn't have been a better experience. Places like this stand or fall on the quality of the meat and this is the best we have tasted. Can't recommend it enough. We heard there may be changes ahead, hopefully not too many as there's nowhere like this for miles around. Large brisket, dino rib (crazily large) and loaded fries with brisket.

I ordered the OS platter, all the food was amazing apart from the Dino ribs, tasted good but they were tough and hard to chew/cut. Service was amazing and everyone was super friendly and polite.

Ordered the platter for two with Mac and cheese which was lovely. The sauce on all the meat can be a bit rich after a while but it paired nicely with the mac and cheese with coleslaw. Enjoyed our meal. Staff were welcoming and friendly!

Let me start by saying the staff and service was amazing! They interacted so well with my toddler and were very helpful. We had the full Oakey breakfast and it was very well presented and very tasty. The sausages and beef bacon were cooked to perfection and you can taste that it is good quality meat! The sourdough bread was toasted to perfection and the softened butter was a great touch and definitely made spreading on the toast much easier. To improve the experience I would say it would be a good idea if the option for eggs was better understood e.g. sunny side up, over easy, over medium and over hard. Also the chai latte was a little watery. But despite this, I would still revisit and recommend Oakey Smokey. Defo worth a visit. Will be back for dinner one day insha'Allah!

Very over priced, below average food and a below average service level. Interior is nice. This is the only real positive I found. Wouldn't go back. Not worth the cost and the food wasn't anywhere near the standard expected.

Went for a dinner with family and were truly impressed with the brisket platter and the pulled beef. The staffs were very polite and helpful in explaining the menu. A special mention to Chelsea who served our table. We are looking forward to visit again.

I recently visited this smokehouse for a friend’s 30th birthday lunch, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. From the start, the service was subpar. Not once were we asked if we’d like to order a drink. When my food finally arrived, I had to ask a waiter for a drink. They didn’t even bring a drinks menu, instead just asking what I wanted. To make matters worse, when my drink finally arrived, the waiter spilled it all over me because they weren’t holding the glass level. The food itself was disappointing. The menu advertised sweet potato fries as a side, but what was served was a baked sweet potato—not at all what was described or expected. The menu described a meal deal offer, but at no point were we told that the drinks we ordered weren’t included in this deal. We were charged separately for them, which felt misleading. The worst part came at the end of the meal. Despite settling the bill, we were informed later that the restaurant’s payment terminal had glitched, and none of the transactions had gone through. This caused significant inconvenience, especially as several guests had already traveled home. The birthday girl herself had to step in and resettle the payment, completely disrupting what was supposed to be a relaxing and memorable celebration. Overall, the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and complete absence of customer service tarnished what should have been a memorable celebration. I cannot recommend this restaurant, as it failed on multiple levels.

I was truly disappointed with the service at Oakey Smokey, especially the behaviour of the manager. I wouldn't recommend this place for special occasions, as the manager’s attitude was far from welcoming. The service was slow, and while the food was decent, it didn’t stand out in any way. What really left a bad taste was the inconsistency in the service staff’s attitude, which made communication feel confusing. The biggest issue, however, was with a floral arrangement I had arranged for the occasion. I had paid over £60 for a delivery of 12 vases from a local florist, and the waiting staff had agreed to place them on our table. However, only half of the vases were put on the table, while the rest were placed behind the counter. I wasn't made aware of this until a week later when I learned that the flowers had been left to rot. It felt like a huge waste of money, and really took away from what should have been a special celebration. Overall, I wouldn't return, and I can't recommend this place for any important events.

Really great service, the Mac and cheese with pulled brisket was very tasty. Really enjoyed the pull brisket in the bun, and the addition of jalapeños was perfect. The bun was a little messy to eat but nonetheless really flavourful. Looking forward to visiting again!

First time Experience at Oakey Smokey with family .. As a family, we had high expectations for Oakey Smokey We made a reservation well in advance for a party of 13, as we were celebrating a family member's birthday we wanted it to be very special. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below our expectations. We were asked to pre-order our meals to ensure everything would be ready when we arrived, but this process seemed to create more issues than it solved. The food came out at completely different times, which made the meal feel disjointed and awkward, also the food was not hot! Some family members ordered steak dishes with mash, but the mash was not served alongside the steak. Even more frustrating, the serving platters were supposed to come with condiments, but we had to repeatedly remind the waitress to bring them. She promised to get them, but they only arrived after we had already finished eating. The lack of coordination was frustrating, especially since we had pre-ordered to avoid such problems. The staff seemed unorganized and unprofessional throughout the evening, which made us feel let down on what should have been a joyful celebration. To be fair a few dishes was tasty, but the poor service overshadowed the meal. We were hoping for a smooth, enjoyable dining experience to mark the special occasion, but unfortunately, this restaurant failed to deliver. Based on this experience, I don’t think I’ll be returning to Oakey Smokey. I did speak to the management on the day, and he was polite and offered a small discount on the bill. Unfortunately, our family remained dissatisfied with the service we received that day. Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Been there twice, food was fantastic. A bit pricey but worth it. Probably the best halal steak place in Leicester. A hidden gem

Went for a spontaneous lunch with the family and we were thoroughly impressed. Greated by the warm and friendly staff; Aalia & Chelsea, they explained the menu and made us and the kids feel extremely welcome. We opted for the Pulled Smokey Bun & The OS Philly Sub (which was my favourite). Both were cooked and prepared to perfection & I can see this quickly becoming our regular lunch spot. Oakey Smokey is definitely worth visiting in the day, I have been for dinner before which was just as impressive but had no idea they have an extensive Brunch menu. Thank you to the lovely Chelsea & Aalia & your Chef of course, we will certainly be back.

My search for the best smokehouse in the West Midlands brought me to Oakey Smokey. It has great service and atmosphere, the Mac and cheese was divine, but that’s where the positives end. The burnt ends were well a burnt mess of meat and bbq sauce, the brisket was just barely tender in some places and very dry in others and don’t get me started on the dino ribs. I don’t think I’ve had worse ribs, I usually finish my ribs even if they’re a bit dry by dipping into some bbq sauce but these ribs had some odd taste to them and I couldn’t take more than a couple of bites. They were kind enough to exclude that from the bill. I’m not sure if that’s what the standard is at Oakley Smokey or they were having a really really bad day but unfortunately that was my first and last visit.

Limited menu, most items over priced and long wait to be served. Food was ok but lots of better options out there.

"I had the worst experience at Oakey Smokey in Leicester while collecting an Uber order. The man at the till, a black individual, was shockingly rude and disrespectful. As an Uber driver, I was simply there to do my job, but his behavior made the entire experience unnecessarily stressful and humiliating. Instead of handling the situation professionally, he was dismissive, uncooperative, and openly rude, making it clear he has no place working in customer service. This is unacceptable and reflects very poorly on Oakey Smokey. To the management: this employee's behavior is driving customers and delivery partners away. I strongly suggest immediate action before your reputation suffers further. I will not be returning to this establishment and would advise others to think twice before visiting.

The grilled wings with the honey sticky sauce & bone marrow is to die for & the chimichurri condiment!!! Beef tacos were divine!! Myself & my friend loved the place & definitely would come back. The service and atmosphere were great. Our waitress Amani was the best & she was very patient & helpful throughout!! WC is clean!!

The Mac and cheese lacked the cheese. Not saucy at all. The Philly sub I got tasted like burnt onions…overpowered everything else. Maybe their other items are nice but shame I wasted my money trying to a new place I was excited to.

What I don’t understand is when restaurants spend all this money on decor and not on their customer service. This place looks nice and clean however that’s all the nice parts end. Customer service is poor well below par. In this place a customer is not right or ever right but they are quick for the payment. Don’t care how and what order the food arrives just quick to take payment. Will NOT come here again or recommend this place.

We used to come all the time jist foe the platter, but after i came today i will never be back. The service in this “restaurant” was so bad. Namely the so called manager, young lady with curly hair was so rude and dismissive to us. Her service made me never want to come back, didnt check back on us. There was no smokey in the oakey, it all tastes completely different.

Absolutely amazing food went today and ordered the rib sub. Perfectly cooked , fresh sub. Mac n cheese was 10/10 aswell will deffo go back

One of my favourites, great for Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch or Dinner. Love all the meats, especially the Brisket. Also great for private parties, lovely space downstairs.

A generous 3/5, what saved it was the sliced brisket which was the best item on the menu. It's a real shame because it is in a nice location and the place has a good ambience. I thought Leicester has finally got a premium place to eat but in my experience it was below expectations. My experience yesterday evening was as follows. Upon entering did expect a better welcome, I don't mean a red carpet entry but at least a warm welcome as oppose to an abrupt do you have a booking? even though the place was pretty much empty for a Friday evening a warm welcome would have set the tone for the evening ahead. Our server however did a great job, she explained the menu well given it was our first time eating at Oakey Smokey. The starter was good, we went for the chicken tacos. In terms of the sharing platter for two this is where the place really let itself down, especially when you consider smoked meats are what they are known for. I was really looking forward to this but fell short of my expectations given I do enjoy smoked meats. The pulled beef and burnt ends tasted dry, I do like to give the place benefit of doubt but it didn't taste fresh at all, it just seemed like it was possibly reheated and lacked flavour. When you know quality of meat it's just something I could tell instantly and my partner could tell straight away too. Ribs were okay, but genuinely have had better at family functions. Star of the show was the sliced brisket, I think this is what saved it from being a shambles in terms of the smoked meats. You'd think for platter there would be more condiments included or a bigger portion of the sauce. I found the condiment tub small, expected a bigger pot rather the one which comes with the platter. I was surprised when the shared platter for two was served it was in a tray, the meats got cold within 5-10 minutes I would say, even though we weren't seated too close to the door. I would recommend the place to have something which contains the heat for longer. When you are paying what I would classify a premium you'd expect elements like this to be more thought out, it seems as though Oakey Smokey are missing on those finer details. The passion and mango drink were nice, but for the price I expected a bigger glass. I'm surprised when ordering they didn't ask if we wanted ice and this was automatically added in. Another recommendation for servers potentially, as not all customer like to have ice in there drinks, seems like a tactic to put less drink if you ask me. The risk with oakey smokey is it wants to come across as premium but they are off the mark unfortunately. Some fine tweaks are needed in terms of service and food. Honestly speaking if the pulled beef and burnt ends were fresh it would have scored higher. I would go as far as saying in terms of quality of meats, value for money and taste - cattle and smoke is a better alternative. Not only does the food taste much fresher and nicer it's more value for money in terms of portion size and price. With me I do consider the aesthetics of the place but focus more on the food and service, this is where unfortunately the place let itself down. It's a shame as I was really looking forward to being impressed, I won't be back in a hurry that's for sure! It really does surprise me the number of 5 star reviews the establishment has. Not sure if the place just had an off night but given my experience I wouldn't recommend it.

Ive been here a few times in the past and have always left happy. I thought this would be a great place to celebrate a family birthday but i was so wrong😔 The food is good but the service makes me not want to come back. Fair enough i came on Saturday 19th and it was busy but its just not the same as it used to be. Wont be back in a hurry, better to just order online than deal with the clueless staff there.

I was recommended this place, the venue is great clean and tidy and first impressions it seemed all good. We placed our order and when it came its was incorrect. We enquired and the reply was simply we did not have the food we ordered so they replaced it without checking with us. Once we advised them they agreed on a replacement which never arrived. To our surprise we were charged for it. It was not the amount in question but the principle. When I went to pay there was no apology or any sense we got it wrong etc. I will NOT be visiting here again despite the food being good but the whole service was poor.

Recently visited for brunch after a while, the prices have definitely gone up which is expected. But some of the portions are also significantly smaller eg the brunch option with toast/brisket/2 poached eggs came with one small piece of sourdough. The extra portion of beef sausages had 2 small sausages for £4.50 - We couldn’t believe it! The French toast and pancake portion was as expected though. And the service was good (weekday morning, not busy). There was an issue with an raw/undercooked egg which they offered to rectify without any issue. Overall the food was good but not sure I’d return due to some of the small Portion sizes.

Had the platter for 2 - cost £45 and definitely worth every penny.

I had a the OG Benedict and my friend had the Salsa Macha eggs. Both were presented beautifully, and tasted awesome! We were served by a young gentleman (Zayne) who was polite, friendly and accommodating. Will definitely coming back!

I visited twice in the same week, the first visit was exceptional, as the restaurant was quite empty. The food and service was all 5 star. However, when I visited with family a couple of days later, we were seated on a dirty table, were asked if we would like to order after 10 minutes of waiting for a menu! We then waited a further 5 minutes for menus to arrive. We ordered our food and were waiting for around 25 minutes before two out of 5 main dishes arrived, with incorrect sides and sauces. When we queried this, we were told the food had been brought out to the wrong table but the waitress said we could eat it if we wanted to! As this was a family meal, we weren’t too keen on two members of the family eating while the rest watched some declined that offer! After another 15 minutes, our mains began to arrive. 4 out of 5 mains arrived correctly, but we weren’t too keen still waiting for one. We were told it was on its way but it still hadn’t arrived after 10 minutes. We then asked for a supervisor/manager who informed us that the last main hadn’t been put through the order system and it was being made now. We were asked to confirm what we ordered which was a fillet steak cooked medium rare. At this point, the 4 mains which arrived together had been eaten, and the last main arrived, completely over-cooked! It was completely well done. Overall, a terrible experience, the waitresses had no idea when queried about menu items, and seemed completely lost when asked for the most basic things such as steak knives. After my first visit, I thought I had found my new favourite restaurant, but after my latest experience, I’ll be sure to stay well away! Disappointing to say the least.

Had a great experience as a first time diner at this venue tonight. Food was excellent and the staff were efficient, friendly, and attentive. Special mention for Joe and for the lady who I think is the manager/floor manager (shoulder length curly black hair on the door and till - didn’t see a name badge!). Will be back again.

This is the place for the best meat, especially bbq and fried. Also other eating options. Sit in or takeaway. Love it 😀

The food and everything was good but when it came to paying the cashier had to give 2.50 change she said that she only had 2.00 and if we were okay with that we obviously werent okay because why are we paying extra cash, she then went to go get the extra change that she owed us.

Very bad customer service and very rude to deliver drivers

Delicious food, great atmosphere and excellent service! A big thank you to Amani for providing excellent customer service throughout both of my times at Oakey Smokey. Having been to the restaurant once, I returned yesterday to order a takeaway. Even though the chicken platter wasn't available, she accommodated my chicken request by offering a chicken thigh meal. Communicated professionally over the phone when I called earlier on and kept me informed of how long my order would take when I came to collect. Highly recommend the OS platter and chicken thighs to get your smokehouse meat fix!

I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Oakey Smokey, and every visit leaves me amazed. The food is consistently breathtaking, full of rich flavors and fresh ingredients. The service is equally impressive—always warm and friendly, making every meal a true experience. This place has quickly become a favorite of mine, and I can’t wait for my next visit!

I had a great time here one of the best places in leicester to eat imo, the staff members are amazing aswell particularly Armani she was really helpful and gave really good suggestions when picking food from the menu.

Absolutely amazing food juicy and delicious absolutely mouth watering. The place and service is 10/10 made us feel comfortable. Tenny and Amanda’s hospitality was amazing. Friendly sweet souls. Recommend this place to anyone!!!! Won’t be a let down. Warning!!!!!!! Probably get an addiction.

Food and atmosphere was nice overall however we found the portion size for the meat platter for 2 quite small. The pizza for kids meal was just a half tortilla with tomatoe paste and cheese ontop and £4 just for that. The mojito was too citrusy. It's overhyped on Instagram, they could be abit generous with the portions considering the price tag of the menu.

Came in today, Yusef served us and was very friendly. breakfast was nice too, nice place.

We had brunch consisting of the Oakey full English, Loaded Mac and Cheese and Blueberry Pancakes.. food was served in good time and was very nice. Keep it up 👍

Visited on Thursday 22nd August pm. This was my 3rd visit here. Unfortunately despite the food being somewhat good we found the service was very poor. Waiters lacking the basics forgetting cutlery, tissues and just generally being absent as we had sat downstairs. Some of the menu items were also unavailable like cheddar chips. I would avoid the brisket burger as it's very dry but the burnt ends and pulled brisket was very nice.

Walked in, shown to a table, sat down, menu is pretty straight forward, not too much to choose from, which makes life so much easier and it's better when a restaurant doesn't try to do everything! We chose an OS Platter, a mix of everything that they do. Everything was top. The Mac n Cheese was decent, the sliced and pulled Brisket was medium-well cooked which made it decent as well! The flavours were amazing, and these guys know how to do chips too! None of the frozen steak cut fries type, like proper chips! Service was brilliant too - both waitresses working today were attentive and chatty, and smiling genuinely as if they wanted to be there. Loved eating here today and will definitely be back!

This was our first visit and it did not disappoint.. All the meat was tender & delicious….chef kiss. The service was quick. The staff, Tenny, Juliana & Rehan were friendly, efficient & knowledgeable…..will visit again.

I visited Oakey Smokey and had breakfast I was served by taliya she was very talkative very bubbly she gave exceptional service and made us feel welcomed and not feel like strangers. The food was absolutely amazing and it was good quantity for the amount it costed. I would definitely come again.

Amazing brunch experience, great food, great service from a lovely young lady. I think her name was Taaliah. She gave great recommendations and tailored her suggestions to our preferences. She deserves a pay rise! We didn’t have to wait too long for the food and it was very nice.

Amazing amazing food, the meat candy is delicious and the brisket was so soft and tender. The service was impeccable. Attentive and properly looked after. Rehan was outstanding and provided an excellent customer experience.

Great food, had the pulled brisket, nice BBQ sauce. I'm wheat intolerant and was nice to swap out the brioche bun with chips and extra pickles. Nice slaw. Banana & dates milkshake was divine, good balance of flavour. Only bad thing was the music, not matched with a smokehouse theme at all, just glad it wasn't loud and in the background otherwise it definitely would have killed the atmosphere. Will be back!

I've had steaks, briskets and burgers in the US many times and this is the closest I've got, in this country, to the level of taste and quality experienced in the US. The meat was clearly of good quality, it was cooked expertly and just a shade under absolute perfection. Everything is good. Eat here.

While the atmosphere and service was decent, unfortunately for me the food was below standard. I ordered the Smoked Chicks with Sweet Potato Fries and Smoked sauce. Initially as the portion arrived, i thought it was decent sized. Anticipating a rich barbeque flavour, all I could taste was the lighter fuel used to smoke the chicken. To add to the disappointing flavour the chickens came out pink. I asked management about this and they took it back to "sort out". It came back, and instead of providing different pieces, they decided to put it back on the grill which made it overcooked and a significant amount of the chicken was STILL pink. I ate the some cooked pieces of chicken and sweet potato fries, the rest probably went to waste. As a suggestion, management might want to focus on the quality of the food being served and not let the standard of quality of what the food could've been, slip. I was compensated for my dissatisfaction and may go back to try something else, but maybe not anytime soon.

The food at Oakey Smokey is amazing and is a place I will always go to for all occasions. The service from Tenny who serves us makes us feel welcome and part of the family. Tenny makes our experience 100 times better and he is the reason why we love going there. If I could give Tenny rating out of 10 he would get 11/10 from me!

I want to like this place more but struggled. A tucked away venue with nice decor. We tried this smokehouse with high expectations which were not met. Maybe not our day. It was relatively empty given early on 6pm ish on a Sunday evening. The menu seemed simple but we were told some items have different rules at different times ie you get a free side with some main items if order before 5pm but not after (not on the menu). Also the extra condiments for the mains doesn't apply if you get pulled brisket as it contains a condiments so you would have to pay extra (again not on the menu). We ordered the pulled brisket and coleslaw, Dino rib sub, kids burgers and a side of burnt ends. Cookie milkshake and fruit shoots. Our order seemed to be taken by a new server, not normally an issue but he had to check multiple times and led to delays in our order ie we had to ask three times for my kids drinks. The pulled brisket seemed wirey and tougher than we expected but an OK flavour. The ribwich and burnt ends were tasty and the stars of our meals. The kids burger seemed more peppery than expected but the chips went down well. The cookie milkshake was OK. Could have been a stronger taste. For the money we felt this meal should have sung and it didn't. Afraid not somewhere we would visit again.

This restaurant is amazing. It has fantastic, modern decor, a classy venue for all types people. The staff are knowledgeable, kind and most importantly they are friendly. The food? Divine. I cannot describe it any other way, after trying half of the menu; if you’re a meat lover you will love this place. Looking forward to my next visit!

Came here after my graduation and Tenny looked after myself and my family extremely well. Made it an even more enjoyable day. We’ve already planned our return.

Fantastic hidden gem of a place to dine at, discovered new innovative ways to consume brisket including within an Arancini which I would definitely recommend, to be honest I have no issues with anything that I had and service was great, Chelsea was very friendly and helpful.

On a recent family trip to the University of Leicester Botanical Gardens we were looking for a place for our lunch. My daughter suggested the area to try and…. bingo…. we found Oakley Smokey. Lovely atmosphere, great service and food that just hit the spot for all of us. Highly recommended.

The food and service was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the OS Philly, so delicious! From the moment we walked in Tenny had realised it was a special occasion and he made our experience so special! He made the bride to be a special mojito and gave her a free dessert at the end of her meal! I request you all to give Oakey Smokey a try 😍

Me and my partner ordered a full oakey breakfast and everything was seasoned really well and just the right amount. The service was excellent, didn't have to wait long and we would highly recommend this place to anyone. One of our favorites so far!👌
