We dropped in here for a drink and decided to have lunch. They had a mainly Italian food menu which was fine.

Previously visited here 2 weeks ago but didn't feel like a meal so late in the evening. This time came early and decided to dine.Very busy place and the staff worked tirelessly.Although I had to wait a not unreasonable time, it was worth it. Portions were good and the meal was delicious. All this and lots of smiles from staff. This is pub food as it should be.

I attended an Old Colleagues Reunion at this restaurant recently and found the welcome and the food to be outstanding. We had a superb choice of dishes and the house wine was also excellent. The entire company voted unanimously to come back the this restaurant on our next outing. For the quality we enjoyed, it was also very reasonably priced. However the place was quite quiet at thhe time we were there, which I put down to the time of year.

This review applies to the non pizza order as the pizza is usually pretty good. he staff were pleasant and helpful on arrival. although the manager? from the hotel seemed to take precedence later whilst the only person at the bar was left waiting ( me) to order drinks. After our meal, not during, we are asked how the food had been, when i answered truthfully "dry and burnt", I was met with silence and a hurried tidy up of the plates. much the same silence when asked at bill settling time. Now i do often wonder why this question is asked, especially at the Birnam Inn as the response is either ignored or perhaps at best considered not worthy of response. As a local I will probably be forgetful and order food here again but it will be because I ave forgotten this experience. I guess I am prepared to risk a one in four ( over the last 5 or so years of eating here) chance of getting a truly bad meal and eat here again with no recourse but to suffer heartburn and for the staff to bear silent witness but i would warn the discerning traveler to order pizza and stay safe (ish)

My wife ,I and daughter rented a cottage in Birnam for a few days in february .We went to the Birnham in several times, after long dog walks, which was excellent and very welcoming . On saturday early evening we went to see if we could go in to hotel for a bar meal .Even though it is the same owners ,out of courtesy, I went in first and asked the barman if they allowed dogs in bar area .he said they do but asked me to sit at certain tables which I said was fine. Once we were in and settled a older lady came through and told us in an very rude manner we had to leave as they do not allow dogs the the bar . I said no problem but the other member of staff said it was ok .She just walked away with appology for for confusion and stood mumbling something to the barman .You would think staff would know such basic policies .A real let down as the pub they run next door is really nice .

We booked our office Christmas lunch at the Birnam Inn for 12.15pm and pre-ordered our food using their online menu. When we arrived we were informed that the menu was out of date and 3 people would need to order an alternative meal. Why didn't they tell us that when we phoned our order through or at least called back?! They finally started serving our food at 1pm, but brought out the starters and main courses together! We were served by a surly teenager who obviously wasn't happy to be there and instead of "Would you like anything else?" we just got a grumpy "Is that it?!" when taking our drinks and after-lunch coffee orders. The place as absolutely freezing too. The food was good and plentiful but we definitely won't be back.

My husband and I were staying in Birnam (not here, thankfully) and we had been out walking. We decided to have lunch here rather than go back to our lodge. This was a bad mistake. We had soup and sandwiches. The soup was cold. The expensive sandwiches were stale and sparsely filled. My egg mayonnaise and tomato had no tomato. They were also advertised with a salad garnish but there was not even a lettuce leaf on the plate. This was the only blip in a fantastic weekend.

My husband and i visited the small pizza joint a few months ago, as we were visiting family in Dundee. We decided to go out for the day but soon regretted it. We had heard of the Birnam Hotel a couple of times, but never really took much notice. When we arrived in Birnam we were shocked at how much traffic could possibly pass through such a small village and due to limited car park spaces, we parked our car next to the Birnam Gallery. After a lovely walk down to the birnam, we were met by an older woman smoking on the outside of the decking (the wooden deck complements the stone building perfectly 10/10) After fighting through the smoke, we entered the warm candle-lit atmosphere, greeted by the smells of the kitchen..but sadly NO staff! This struck us immediately as there is a sign that tells customers "wait to be seated" My husband noticed two members of staff in the other room, the bar and after standing for nearly three minutes we eventually seated ourselves. The next surprise was when the woman who we spotted outside walked to our table, the stench of cigarettes surrounded us. She handed us menu's and walked away. "is she staff?" i asked my husband! Sadly we were ignored for a further ten minutes, not even our drink order was taken until we ordered food. A young boy came over eventually and took our order, he was very polite and apologised to us for the delay..but as i looked into the bar, i seen NO customers at the bar, only one table of two. Why were we left waiting when there was only one table..and three members of staff? I have no complaints about the food. Compliments to the chef on all levels!! When we proceeded to pay the bill, by this time we had had enough of the place for one day, the woman (who i was already unimpressed with) was sitting on the opposite side of the bar, eating her dinner and chatting to the staff who were slumped over the bar. I had to ask three times until one of the boys heard me asking for the bill. Fantastic food, Fantastic prices but appalling staff!

This has to be the worst wetherspoons we have ever visited. There was only one staff member serving at the bar and one serving tables, our food took over 20 mins to arrive to our table which is actually against what wetherspoons promise, all meals should be served within 10 mins! The tables were sticky and smelly. The food was freezing cold, and staff weren't the most pleasant. they couldn't even smile. I would avoid this place at all costs!

Being on a later shift at work I don't turn up to Baynes for lunch until 1pm. Unfortunatley by that time they often have a poor selection left because they do not prepare enough product for the day. No white rolls, no chicken mayo and very unhelpful staff who refused to make up a fresh roll for you if your preferred choice is not already made up, which is usually the case at this time of day. That's even when there is plenty staff behind the counter so much so they are standing about chatting. When asked if they could make one up fresh, at first their excuse for not doing so was there was no chicken mayo left. When challenged what was stopping them from making some more up, there was suddenly also no white rolls left. Perhaps a one off you say, well no, I have been in multiple times before which is why I finally pushed the point with them am why I am here posting a bad review. I have never been able to get a chicken mayo roll on white at or after 1pm. Apparently it is Baynes that dictates what time you should be having lunch not the customer. One time I did manage to get manage to get a chicken mayo roll but once I arrived back at work, I discovered in fact it was a brown roll, so, the Baynes bakery assistant does not seem to know the difference between a white roll and a brown roll. The boss's attitude at the Glenrothes store is even worse, she does not care a jot if you can get what you came in for and denied that it was poor customer service to not have any white rolls left by one o'clock and only having a limp selection of only the brown ready made rolls that no one wants available was fine. I even complained to their headoffice - another waste of time. I got a women in their office who is probably just the office secretary who also. Here input was to say that she would let the area manager know. Of course nothing changed, did she call me back a week or two later to see if I had been in since and had things improved? No she did not. My advise is if your in the central Scotland you will get much better service, and choice, if you go to another bakers for your lunch, I recommend Stephens the bakers, they are far superior in every respect. Baynes = poor choice, poor service by arrogant staff. You may get better service in other Baynes stores but why waste time just go to someone else and be guaranteed to get a better service.
