Nut And Nettle in East Riding of Yorkshire

Have been meaning to try the N&N for ages. I had a couple of days to kill in Brid on my own, so had planned one visit there and a couple of Fish restaurants in the area. I’d been to the Queens pub many times in the past so was a tad unprepared for what had become of it. It used to be a pretty downtrodden Brid boozer but then picked up when the current owners spruced it up and introduced live bands and a vibrant, young client base. The N&N has now melded with the pub. I happened to visit on what seemed to be the only sunny day in Summer which showed off the large patio area in its full glory. I instantly fell in love with it, and that’s before I even got hold of the menus. Now, full disclosure, I’m a slightly repentant carnivore trying hard to switch up plant and dial down roadkill. I have several vegan friends. None of whom look at all well, so I’m struggling for motivation here. I’ve ‘done’ several vegetarian places, but never been to a vegan restaurant. I’d previously seen Beth, the incredible head chef, on Andi Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts. Her Bridlington Tarts (grow up!), blew Andi away and I’ve not thought about anything else since I saw them. I’ve got two in my caravan fridge now. They won’t make it past the completion of the next paragraph. Anyway, my point. Despite my vegan virginity, I knew there’s more to it than nut roasts and veg curry. I chose the wild waffles, chips and a flat white. Let me explain the wild waffles as best as I can. It’s waffle shaped. There’s a hint of oregano, basil and has a smoky aftertaste. There’s avocado in it and some caramelised sweet walnuts. Then there’s a creamy maple cashew sauce over the top. That didn’t help you all did it? Well, whatever this mind-blowing masterpiece did to my senses, I’m not entirely sure. A tear may have been shed, I did hear Mozart’s requiem in my head, even though Joni Mitchell was playing through the speakers. And the chips, well, these weren’t anything like I’d previously experienced. Triple cooked because once isn’t enough as we all know. Fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. I think they were dusted with a paprika based seasoning which was just perfect. It was precisely at this point in my afternoon of gluttony where I started reconsidering my planned visits to fish restaurants. The chips would be a disappointment. I would forever regret not revisiting N&N the next day. I’m a tart down now… thanks for asking. Now I do know a thing or two about coffee. I also know a lot about real ale as my waistline will testify. The coffee they use is nicely balanced with nutty tones (No idea what that means but everybody says it). I asked for a flat white which should show off the coffee flavour without too much milk masking as can be the case with cappuccino. There are a range of draught keg beers on offer at the bar and some bottled beers. There are some excellent cask real ale offerings in Brid, including the magnificent Three Bs micro pub and the nearby Ship Inn, so having at least one cask real ale on offer would certainly have attracted my attention. Maybe even a home-brew to dovetail with the theme of foraging and natural ingredients? I’m now craving a lovely plum porter. Lunch tomorrow will be more of the same. My voyage to veganism is far from complete but it’s clear my friends are doing it all wrong. One tart survives, as does the fish I planned to dine on tomorrow.

Stumbled on this place by accident and just needed sone cold drinks. But boy will I be going back asap for food. It's a vegan place and the food looked amazing. I'm not vegan but the smells coming out that kitchen were delightful. I've since researched the place and seen just what they offer. See you soon.

Supper club event 3 course meal. The restaurant looked very romantic. Table decorations were pretty, 2 candles and fresh flowers. This was a birthday treat. I had forgotten what was on the menu. Fresh interesting stater of strawberries and tomatoes. Elderflower was an ingredient. We opted to have chips as an extra. They were lovely and crispy with a dip. Samphire, seaweed and pecan nuts were some of the main course ingredients. Raspberry, meadowsweet macaroon topped with a rose petal.

the nut and nettle is a fully vegan cafe in the queens hotel pub in old town, bridlington that serves lunch 11-3pm fri-sun. the food is inventive, fresh, seasonal and very well presented and includes a full patisserie counter with a rich selection of cakes, tarts and pasties. eat in with curated music or or sit out in the enclosed garden with the bamboo, the fruit trees and the butterflies. the staff are always friendly and it's a dog friendly establishment. all round, a great place to eat

Delicious, Lovely food, great staff and everyone made to feel welcome. it was great to see such a place really busy. In fact we came back three times in three days during our visit! highly recommend the waffles, the toasties obviously, the Bridlington tarts and today’s chocolate caramel slice was heavenly. Recommend booking for lunch at weekends mostly as I can see how busy it got today. Thanks guys you will be our definite go to eatery when we next up on this beautiful coast, I’m sure ava still his a latte left to work through 🤣❤️

What a great place this is! We love coming here. The staff are so friendly and the coffee and food is delicious. Really different menu and it's great as a veggie and vegan to have such a choice! Would highly recommend

This cafe was even better than I expected. I'd heard good things already but it surpassed them. We loved the atmosphere of the place and the food and drink were inventive and full of flavour. I will definitely be coming back even though I live 28 miles away.

The best food I've ever had. We were down south for a holiday and we found this place on Happy Cow. The chips were to die for! And the tofu peanut satay toastie was amazing. Now that I know tofu can be like that, I'm going to practice. I really hope to go back there one day.

We ordered the Full English breakfasts as takeaways and the whole process, from ordering to collecting and devouring, was first class. We ordered and arranged a pick up time very easily by text message. On arrival, it was possible to park temporarily right outside the restaurant. The staff were friendly and efficient and our breakfasts were ready at the appointed time. Having safely taken the breakfasts back to our accommodation, we found that they were absolutely delicious. Well done Nut and Nettle, we'll sit out in the courtyard next time!

So first of all I want to start by saying how much I respect what the owners are trying to do in making a vegan cafe. The cafe itself is a lovely and quaint old pub with lots of character. Staff are friendly and there is a nice courtyard at the back where people can sit outside. That said, there are reasons that I’ve given it 3 stars instead of 5. Firstly location. It’s a good 25 minute walk from the beach area (where we had parked our car) and in a very quiet, almost abandoned part of town. The whole old town area was eerily quiet, with a lot of shut-up shops. It’s not the easiest place to get to for a cuppa and a cake when it’s a 50 minute round trip from the car. Secondly, although they had a nice variety of cakes, the cakes were out in the open in a table and uncovered. We could see flies crawling on some of the items, which was off putting. Surely in the height of summer it would make sense to out some covers or nets over the cakes to keep the flies away? The food and drink was very tasty and a nice treat. There were some unusual items which make a nice change from the fare offered at other cafes. The hot chocolate was really delicious. Like I say, I genuinely wish these people well as I believe in their cause, but those cakes really need to be covered up!

Took my Vege Mum for lunch so she could choose what she wanted as opposed to working out what she could have (as is the usual case). We were served 2 plates of excellent flavourful food. We will almost certainly be back.

If I could rate the Nut & Nettle higher, I would. This is easily the best choice for Vegans in Bridlington offering an amazing selection of meals and desserts all of which are 100% Vegan. Warm, friendly and attentive staff make this place a very special environment and experience. Not to be missed if visiting Bridlington

On our annual trip to Flamborough & surrounding area, we made sure to return to the Nut & Nettle in The Old Town. We had the tofu satay toastie - so yummy & I'm sure non vegans would enjoy it tasty fresh flavours. We both had the nettle & spinach latte - wow, this was my absolute favourite thing there. I would buy the powder to make this drink at home but alas its a "secret recipe". I bought cake to takeaway which did not disappoint.. Love this place & wish we lived nearer...

Excellent homemade food, lovely decor inside and fantastic service. Favourite place to eat in Brid! The savoury dishes and the cakes are all delicious and they have an interesting drinks selection too. I’m not a vegan or even a vegetarian, but I still think the food is very tasty and can’t believe how nice the vegan cakes are!
