Nukkad - Indian Street Food in York

Brilliant St food cooked in front of you in a lively area. Great at lunchtime but must be fab in the evening

Well food was good , especially dosa and samosa but the roll was average as it was bland and there was nothing in it apart from panner Overall food is worth a try

The food on the stall smelled so inviting I had to try it. I had the masala dosa and asked for a little of the chole on the side so I could try that too. I enjoyed it so much that I will be going back next time I'm on York.

Indian craving cured with a couple of quick bites from here. Welcoming staff. Quick service. Reasonably priced. Tasty and ... the deciding 5th * ... Stomachs haven’t complained 😭 Would return to try the other items on offer.

My friend and I got the samosa chaat and a chicken wrap, both were delicious and very good value for money. It was a great way to spend a lunchtime in York and you could do it in any weather as the seating area was quite sheltered. We also got canned fizzy drinks but it was under £10 each, and I really can’t stress enough the food was delicious. The service was also great, really friendly and helpful!

Visited the historic city of York and was quite impressed with the reviews of this place. Located in the shambles it’s a little shop front selling what is said to be Indian street food. Firstly they are not Indian- obviously not a qualification for cooking Indian but please don’t expect authentic Indian food- to be honest the naan wrap we had could have come from anywhere- not distinctly Indian- tasty yes- but not worth the hype.

This meal was our favourite food on our whole trip to York! My friend & I are both vegetarian and love Indian food, so we had high expectations but this place really is amazing! We both had a samosa & a Masala Dosa and they were absolutely to die for. Lots of places to sit & a really good price for the quality of food! Also, the staff working on the stall were so lovely & friendly which also added to the experience. Highly recommend!

Fab place for quick lunchtime snack masala dosai was delicious husband enjoyed the chicken wrap Bonus couple fo kingfisher beers to wash it down - really friendly chat too with owner as he cooked it all defo recommend if you find yourself in lovely York

Visited last week for lunch with my 11 year old daughter. We both had the spiced chicken nan bread wraps with salad and yoghurt sauce and they were absolutely delicious. Wish we lived nearer so we could go back more often!

Fab selection for a quick lunchtime bite. Lighter option of samosa and chana, with tamarind and mint was delicious. Teen had chicken naan wrap (asked for it again for dinner) and a long-missed freshly cooked dosa for the husband. Great food, great value

Some great tastes in the selection of food and thoroughly enjoyed but I couldn’t get over there being no rice. I enjoyed my potatoes, of course I did, but no rice? Not sure I’ll ever get over that. Shame.

We found Nukkad on TripAdvisor before visiting and were not disappointed. Situated in the Shambles with a big covered seating area, it's a perfect stop for a quick bite. We had the chicken wraps stuffed with fresh tender chicken and fresh tangy crisp veg with lovely warming spices. We also had the samosa which was equally fab. Highly recommend this little gem for decent Indian Street food!

I always enjoy a visit to the food court at Shambles Market as there are so many great choices on offer. Nukkad is a great option if you fancy a bit of Indian street food. You can get a good range of snacks including samosa chaat, aloo tikki chaat, dahi puri and masala dosa. My favourite is their paneer kathi roll which is possibly the best this side of Kolkata! We've travelled extensively in India and love sampling street food while we are exploring. While this isn't 100% authentic it is pretty damn good.

Absolutely scrumptious food and very nice people running the stall. Don’t miss it. Samosa Chat is extra good.

Great Indian street food to be food at the Shambles market. Dishes you will possibly not have heard of. Hot and cold options available. Chicken dosa with coconut chutney was a delight. Shared tables or take away. Efficent and friendly staff.

Had a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Dosa with spiced chicken, coconut chutney and lentil soup accompaniments. Very enjoyable snack on a table shared with others in the great atmosphere of Shambles market food court.

I went on a Sunday, the staff were incredibly slow and disinterested. They didn't start to cook my dosa until after they had served up the chickpea curry and samosa which they let linger on the side for 10 minutes before I told them to forget the dosa. The end result was my food was cold, not cool, but cold. The staff let the food down.

This place was in the shambles market. Was walking past and could smell the food from this place. Food matched expectations from smell was great. And a beer stand next door that sells birra moretti. Great.

Went to York for a day trip and stubbled on the Shambles Market by accident, so glad we did. The weather was miserable so the area was quite quiet but there ar eplenty of food options and benches with parasols to sit under. We decided on some Indian food and I had a samosa and a chickpea Dosa and my boyfriend had a Lamb Kathi roll. He loved it so much he was tempted to back for another. My dosa was so nice and fluffy and was easy to tear. There was a nice spice to the chickpeas. Its great that it's all made fresh in front of you and the service was really friendly. Oh and they take card to.

It was most disappointing visit i had. None of the items displayed on the vehicle were available with them (then why waste money painting the vehicle and misleading customers ?).

Decided to get a chicken wrap for my lunch break from work yesterday and I think it will be my last as I was very disappointed...for £6.50 a wrap with 3 tiny pieces of chicken and barely any salad in it!! In my honest opinion I don’t think the amount of filling inside the flat bread is enough for a £6.50...I’ve had chicken wraps from food festival in York for the same price and the chicken can be seen in it! Sorry but this is my honest opinion...even Pret A Manger chicken wraps have more chicken in it and it’s cheaper!

Two of us had a dosa today...asked for half and half ( marinated chicken and chickpea curry). Served with a fresh dosa...coconut chutney and sambal. Absolutely lovely. We will come back!

Visited on a cool Wednesday and having read some reviews and being a sucker for a Dosa decided to give this a try.

This is Asian street food from a van behind the Shambles. And it's good. Very good indeed. £6 for an extremely good spiced potato kathi roll and £6.50 for chicken kathi. There's a few choices, it's cooked to order in front of you and I can't stress how really very good this is. And the bargain of the century. We go every time we're in York and it seems an awful lot of other people do too. Maybe I should keep quiet about this actually. A gem.

Lovely fresh food cooked while you wait. Really good street food. Good service, nice chap doing the cooking and absolute bargain. Highly recommended.

The food market behind the Shambles is excellent and Nukkad is a very tasty addition. The dosa was so good my son even went back for another one. Grab a table, peruse the menu and enjoy.

Nestled in the street food section of York market (behind the Shambles) is this little gem. I had a wrap containing paneer (Indian cheese) with a lovely salad and yoghurt dressing. The paneer was so delicately spiced that it left my mouth tingling in such a good way for minutes after I had finished this delicious wrap that I found myself with a smile on my face. Food should be a sensory experience that leaves you feeling good - this hit the spot and I'll be back for more!

tried this place on the Christmas lights in York. Very pleasant and nice.had a chat with the owner who was equally accommodating to me and the wife as we chatted about our mini break etc. he told us all about his plans etc. nice chap..

Nice selection of Indian snacks, wraps and dhosas. Spicy mashed potato wrap was excellent, worth trying if you’re in the Shambles food market.

Had a long wait for an aloo masala dosa and a puri chat. Mainly because there seemed to be issues in making the dosa - the bloke tried about three times tossing the dosa away each time. Maybe he was just filling in and not a regular?

A single samosa for two quid. where was the gold plate on mine? 'Street food' my ****! it's just as expensive as restaurant food just smaller portions for the price. And it wasn't brilliant very poor indeed, someone has missed the point.

Chanced upon this great little food truck whilst looking for a tasty light lunch. Had the Kathi roll with Nukkad Chicken and my son had the Lamb version. Delicious, tasted fresh, well balanced spices with a nice little buzz of heat. Good value. To be honest the whole menu looked lovely. So much more enjoyable than the standard chain food offerings. Good work chaps.

So much flavor packed into the food! Definitely felt like I was transported to an Indian street food stall! They had great vegan options! The plate was full as well- definitely worth the money! The Somosa chaat was just the right amount of spice! We ordered one plate and it filled us both up for lunch! Would recommend- and we will be coming back!

Came to York with family today and wasn't sure what food to get. This was the best decision. I got aloo tikki and samosa chaat. THE best flavours in each of these. Very tasty and cheap. £2 for aloo tikki and £3.50 for the samosa chaa.

Had the Paneer in a wrap and was blown away. Absolutely delicious. Nice level of spice, beautiful wrap and wonderful Paneer. Good value at £6.50 given the flavours. Definitely coming back to test out the other food.

I never knew I could taste food I would get back home in the comfort of York. It really reminds me of my mother's cooking. Staff are super friendly and food was great. I'd recommend this to anyone that misses home! Many thanks.

Wow found this little gem whilst walking round York looking for a place to have lunch. This is located within The Shambles market area.

I ate here when visiting York and it was excellent and made fresh. It's all delicious, especially the dosa which is like a thin airy pancake that is made to perfection here.

We had delicious lunch at Shambles maket in York , when we saw this colourful food Van . We had samosa chaat , paneer dosa and chicken Kathi roll , food was delicious and full of authentic flavours .

After Wandering around York it was lunch and we found are way into the food court of the Shambles Market so many choices finaly deciding to try Indian we were not disappointed the kathi rolls fresh and very tasty tried to go back for a late afternoon sd nack but they were shut

We were a group of 3 indian families on UK tour, and it was day 5 when we reached the Shambles Market at York. It was lunch time and the Nukkad "Truck" caught our eye. Our eyes became even wider when we read Indian menu which included masala dosas. We treated ourselves to yummy masala dosas and chicken kathi roll. They were truly amazing. So, anyone at shambles market and would like to have some great indian food, Nukkad is the place for you. Special mention for their Chef, Mr. Xavier. Great job !

I thought the dosa with spiced potatoes was the best I’ve had in the UK - it came with a little portion of sambar and coconut chutney. The flavours were very well balanced, all the right levels of spice. The coconut chutney was nutty and savoury. Very authentic.

This is food served from a van in the market in York. There's a handful of choices, including vegetarian and vegan and all are excellent. Hot, tasty, fresh and really cheap. Cooked to order infront of you, I can't fault it. Spicy potato dosa's with lentil soup and coconut chutney were just the best.

I’ve travelled a lot in India and Nukkad does a pretty good job at capturing something of the authentic flavours of the street food. Worth a visit.

Had 1 chicken Kathi roll and 1 lamb. Although were tasty and quick were very overpriced for a standard sized portion, worth more around £5 rather than £7.50!

We stopped here for a quick snack on our last day in York. We had a dosa and a wrap both where full of flavour and delicious. One of the best Indian meals I've had in a long time. Definitely recommend.

Our favourite street food in York. Every time we wind up going back to this great place. Food is top notch and the dosas are wonderfully crispy. Enjoy the atmosphere and sit under the tents if it is too sunny or too rainy. Either way, their food will always brighten your spirits.

Having not being able to eat at the restaurant my family chose due to eating vegan, I was on the search for a quick meal.

This was my first visit to the newish 'food court' in the market. We had a quick look around the various stalls and decided that Nukkad had the best selection of vegetarian dishes. Having had a sizeable breakfast (and a table booked for dinner later that day), M and I decided to share a samosa and a dosa with chickpea curry. It was all very nice and I'd happily go back and try more of the dishes next time.

What a gem to find somewhere that sells food from South India which transported me straight back to South India. Wonderful food.

A fantastic idea, the whole concept of the Indian street food looked amazing. The food was true to the Indian flavours and traditions, with the right amount of spice.

I enjoyed the paneer Kathi roll, which I would describe as a medium spice. It was tasty and filling, and the people preparing the food are very friendly. Well worth a visit if you're looking for a lunch that's a little different.

Came across nukkad by chance ,never tried street food before .but oo my word I'm so glad we tried it.the food is out of this world ,I can honestly say it's up there with the best Indian restaurant I have ever eaten in.even my fussy vegatarian daughter loved it .can't wait to eat here again .thank you

we were here on sat 17th march ,i had seen the reveiws on trip advisor and wanted to try this out ,my husband and i both had the lamb wrap ,the taste was superb and we were served by 3 very polite lads ,a small wait as this was cooked fresh we live in derbyshire but it was worth the visit ,next time we are in york we will certainly come here again

I took my wife here on mother's day... Not much of a effort I hear you say but how wrong you are.. the food was nothing less than gorgeous. All we had was a wrap each. I had the lamb and Fiona had the spicy potato. We both agreed that they were delicious. The lamb one was the best though. The food was cooked infront of us in a spotless kitchen area. It did take a while to come but it was well worth the wait. We will be going back every time we go back to York.

My boyfriend and I finally stopped at Nukkad after seeing this in the market on several occasions and decided to give them a try! Wow!!! How did we not try this truck before, we had the 'Paneer Kathi Roll and the Samosa Chaat!' The roll was beautifully filled, wrapped with fresh ingredients and it tasted ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! We also had the Samosa Chaat which was full of flavours! This one is a gem and I'd recommend you try Nukkad out if you're ever in York! You won't be disappointed with the flavorous and tasty lunch!!!

Stumbled across this on a cold February and loved the street food concept and choice.

This is a fab addition to the Shambles market. The food is delicious, freshly cooked, fast service and very friendly and helpful. Our kids loved trying the different options and my husbands Hungama lamb was so tasty. Highly recommend. Many thanks - we’ll be back soon!

We stumbled upon this place when looking for a quick bite to eat in York. I had aloo chat which was lovely and certainly warmed me up on a cold wet day. My wife had Samosa chat which she also thought was very tasty. We sat undercover in the market and were pleased with our choices which were very tasty and freshly cooked.

What a gem! Just what we needed to warm us up on a freezing February afternoon. The samosa and paneer kathi roll were delicious!
