Great food and drink, cocktails top class with great service as a bonus! Will definitely return.

Staff just ignored us waiting at sign , which stated to wait there if we had a reservation, all very cold and not welcoming, makes you feel awkward The man who gave us the bill was nicer but women who were behind the bar looked like they wanted to kill themselves The food was very good

Managed to squeeze in on heaving Saturday afternoon, with excellent live music. Service was quick and the atmosphere was great.

Food was delicious 😋 Korean chicken chips . Batter so light was so good. Roast of the day 😋 gluten free burger chips 😋 . We all cleaned our plates. All meals were so good. Compliments to the chefs 👩‍🍳 👨‍🍳 👏 👏 👏. Will definitely return and recommend 👌 👍 😀

Was in belfast for training, called here during my lunch break. Was lovely food, great service. Was my first time here, would definitely come back.

A great place to eat, we were a group of 6 who spent 3 days in Belfast and we ate here twice. All meals were delicious, service was friendly & attentive. Would 100% come here again. Thank you for being so fabulous!

Four of us popped in yesterday evening for a quick bite. Delicious meal! Lovely surroundings! Served by the fantastic Mark... nothing was a problem. YES was the theme of the night!

We had a starter and dessert. Loved it! The place is big, comfy seating, staff friendly and we were welcomed even if we did not want to eat a full course menu. I reccomend the place in Belfast city center!

Bit of an odd experience we tried to visit this bar for food and drinks. There was a person on the door who asked if we were there for food or drinks and we replied both then he told us it was fully booked! Understandable it was fully booked as busy day with 6 nations Ireland playing England however why not just say straight away they were fully booked rather than asking ? Seemed strange!

Magnificent establishment completely renovated. The music is a little too loud and not too in tune with the theme. The food is very fatty (fries dripping with fat) and salty. But the service is excellent and the waiter Mark was very pleasant to us.

First time eating here, and was so looking forward to it. My friend had soup for starters which was really cold. She ate it anyway. We ordered roast beef & turkey and ham for mains. These were also very cold. We were overall very disappointed with our meal. Atmosphere and entertainment was good though.

Great pub in Belfast, I had the pate, for the mains I had the roast, turkey and ham on some mash, with vegetables, my wife had the curry, I had Christmas pudding. Very popular pub, pays to book a day ahead

I went for the Sirloin and it was perfect, the onion rings and the chips served with it were delicious too along with the creamy peppercorn sauce, best steak I’ve had in quite a while, highly recommended. Very welcoming, attentive service too.

Went with my husband on 3rd December. My husband got pasta with chicken. He said it was fine. I got roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and mine was burned black. The beef was tough and everything else a glutinous mess. Everything was cold. But into a cold sprout. They heated same but I had to send it back. I got two Spring Rolls to compensate as I was starving. Wine bottle was plonked unceremoniously on the table. We tipped main waiter anyway as he was attentive and seemed sympathetic to my disaster. What a dump. Never again.

I had cold tough roast beef. Yorkshire Pudding was black and cold. Vegetables a glutinous mess. Heated up. Even worse. Sent it back and got a couple of Spring Rolls as compensation. Tipped Waiter as not his fault. Bottle of wine we ordered was unceremoniously plonked down with no mention of tasting it by another guy with a very sad face. A disaster.

Grace and Patrice served us in the upstairs bar and we're the loveliest and funniest bartenders I've ever experienced! Definitely would return for these two alone!!

We visited this restaurant as a family in mid October. Beautiful food, great portion sizes and keenly priced. All served by an absolute pleasure and gentleman in Mirek. Certainly intend to visit again next time we're in Belfast

What a wonderful restaurant and bar! The food was delicious, the live music was just perfect and the waiters were so friendly. Everything was perfect!

We booked on the day for a large group of 17 and were accommodated with a booth seated area which was ideal for our party. Service was slow and impersonal. We waited a while for some starters and mains. Food was mediocre. Chicken wings are tasty but large and awkward to eat. Steak sandwich was nice although not hot enough. It may have been sitting for a while before getting to the table. 3 of the group had Korean fried chicken was they said was disappointing. Overall it was fine but was expecting more based on the prices and the glowing Tripadvisor reviews!

We booked a large party for dinner on a Thursday evening, 3 courses for £25 is hard to beat, good quality food and large portions, the waitress who looked after us was very attentive although extremely busy, this was our 3rd visit and I’m sure it won’t be our last.

This is a fantastic place for a meal. Great food and great value , well worth a visit.

Enjoyed our lunch before heading to the airport. MARK looked after us and was polite and attentive. Food was tasty and quick to come out.

Visited this restaurant that was recommended by Trip Advisor. Wonderful building with a great atmosphere and service. Meal was very big but fabulous. I had Guinness Coated Ham with Cabbage and mash - absolutely wonderful! Definitely worth a visit.

What a wonderful place! It was fully booked when we stopped in by chance, but Mirek served us from the bar area. He was the best! Cordial, attentive and professional. The ambience of the place was welcoming and relaxing. The portions were incredible. We had great cocktails. One of the most memorable experiences in our first time trip to Ireland. When we return, we will be sure to stop in to The Northern Whig and see Mirek!

ordered the katsu chicken curry and it was not even katsu curry. it was thai red curry. it was gorgeous and i ate all of it but i expect katsu curry when i order katsu curry xoxo

Went for Sunday dinner. 3 courses for £27, excellent value. Super nice staff.

Classy, tons of room, wonderful interior. Nice menu, variety of beers and cocktails. Fish and chips was solid. Bruschetta 👍 Everything was worth the £.

Can never fault this place for service or quality

Called in today for lunch we tried to book online for 4 o'clock was told it was all booked up tried 30 minutes later got booked for 3 30 strange, when we got there it was pretty empty, was seated at our table ordered a drink ten minutes later the drink was sitting at the bar no one was looking like they would bring our drink down so we went to the bar for our own drink, 10 minutes later. The waitress took our food order not the water who gave us our table the food was very good but the service was very poor for me the owner needs to be more hands on, the service was bad.

Great food, great ambience and lovely staff

The Northern Whig is a bar with a brilliant food menu. The interior of the bar is a perfect blend of traditional and modern, with loads of space between tables. There is a dedicated vegan menu here with starters, mains and a dessert which is brilliant! We tried the plant based goujons; beyond vegan burger and plant based fish & chips. These dishes were very tasty and served in a good portion. As you can see they are very safe options but this is perfect for this style of restaurant. We enjoyed all of it, only criticism being that the fish is closer to fish goujons. We felt the service was great and had a great pint of Guinness! Overall the atmosphere, food and service was great. The perfect vegan pub grub in my opinion, try it out if you are in the mood 😁

Highly recommended pub restaurant. Delicious food. We tried fish and chips and the Roast of the Day (beef), both plentiful and very tasty. The Guinness tasted just as good as the Outcider on tap. By the way, Mark was an extremely accommodating host!

We had just arrived in Belfast off the ferry and were looking for a nice place to eat. I did a google search and found a couple of places close by the Ramada by Wyndham. We walked and looked at a few places but we decide on The Northern Whig. We looked at the outside menu and prices and it fit what we were looking for. The atmosphere is very nice, not too dark and not too bright. They asked if we had a reservation but we didn’t; we lucked out because we got there before the regulars came in. My wife and I ordered the fish and chips because we wanted to share the meal. The couple with us ordered the Beef and Stout Pie and Fish and Chips. WOW! Wow! Everything was sooooo good! The fish was lightly battered, fresh and no fishy taste. The fries were great too! Our friend that has the Beef and Stout Pie said the meal was soooo tasty. It was roast beef pieces in meat gravy and it was covered with a round croissant pastry. She let us try some and it was awesome. Our serve Hannah did a fantastic job taking care of us, we told her that the food and atmosphere was soooo good we wanted to come back. She went ahead and made a reservation for us so we would have a spot and the same table. We also had desserts Chocolate Fudge cake and Cheesecake, both were outstanding! You’ve got to go and try this place!

Nice place, but I was standing at the counter for 10 minutes before I was served a pint. There was just one other customer at the counter. This customer looked for a bottle of wine, and the barmaid had to go to a store room for this, leaving the bar unattended. When a pint costs £6.20 you expect better service.

Food was OK but not exceptional for the money spent. The notice when reserving a table that we were welcome but had to be gone by 20:30 did not feel very welcoming nor did it add to the relaxed feeling of a night out to dinner. Waiting staff was very friendly, quick and overall excellent.

Had the Pork & Leek Sausage which is essentially Bangers & Mash with some slight differences. Not that I noticed. It was the best I’ve ever had. So tasty with the right amount of seasoning. Crispy onions accompanied it and they were to perfection. We were greeted by a grey haired gentleman that seated us in the pub off of the main dining room and was very friendly. A very busy place. A reservation is needed if you want to sit it the main dining room.

Was not very nice at all, Tiger prawn cocktail was horrible lettuce looked awful we also got fish and chips had to ask three times for salt we tiny paper sachets brought two at a time, service bad for so many staff, waited long on drinks when first arrived asked for coffee before ordering food had to request milk twice terrible.

My sister & I always try to visit The Northern Whig for lunch when we shop in Belfast as it's one of our favourite places to eat and this most recent trip just confirmed why we love it! We had the 'light' lunch - Mussels with Frites, Fish Goujons and a portion of onion rings to share. It was gorgeous as usual. Our server, Mirek, couldn't have been more friendly, attentive and helpful and gave us a lovely seat in the window to watch the world go by. A little oasis of calm after a busy morning shopping in the Market. We'd recommend The Northern Whig (and have done!), to anyone.

The service was very nice, the waiter even brought us beer to try without being asked when we didn't know which one to order. The food was good, only the light was a bit dark for eating.

We stumbled on this pub/restaurant in the cathedral quarter of Belfast. And we’re SO glad we did!! The food was superb with a variety of dishes to choose from. But the absolute best part was the service. Our server, Mark, was friendly and attentive and chatted with us for some time about life in Belfast. Girard, the manager, also visited with us. Our experience is one of the highlights of our trip.

Stumbled into this restaurant on our way to another & what a find. The atmosphere is lovely, the music fantastic & the food is amazing! We were served by the wonderful Mirek who recommended our dishes, one of the friendliest waiters in Belfast. Definitely a 5 star review from me!

Roast of the day and the beef was perfect, the waiter was definitely friendly and proud to serve.

Frankly, for someone who loved Belfast, this was one more step on that evaluation. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service was smiley and with a very nice touch of family. Thank you!

Had fish and chips which was a decent price for a sit in restaurant. Good portions and I scoffed the lot. Everyone else at the table was pleased with their food too. Big shout out to the staff though. Everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly which is rare enough these days

The bar/restaurant is beautiful inside. We all had the Sunday roast, it was really good! Our waitress was excellent and really friendly. Really good wine and cocktail list. We'll definitely book again.

The atmosphere is much more sophisticated than most pubs, but still welcoming. Fast and helpful service, wonderful cocktails! A special place.

We had a late lunch yesterday at the Northern Whig and did really enjoy it! The food was really a delight and totally worth its price, which was not too high by the way! And Mark who served us, was such a nice person and really helpful in the choice of our dishes, also for our daughter, who has too choose glutenfree!☺️

We have been here a few times and usually get reasonable service. Unfortunately today at 1-13pm a rather rude woman was behind the bar and her attitude left a lot to be desired. Dismissive and rude was my husbands experience. I think staff training is required.

Went to the Northern Whig for dinner on pride (a very busy period). The staff have never failed to accommodate. Both brilliant service and food. Our server (Jennifer) was absolutely excellent ensuring that we were always attended to. Alongside other great staff members. I feel like this place isn't talked about enough. Hidden gem. Could not recommend this place enough. For consistently great food and service.

Called in for breakfast pretty good had two frys a tea a latte and a nimosa each very good would recommend it

Nice ambience, great service. The Northern Whig is a really tastefully decorated pub, centrally located. We were impressed by the waiters, who are all “originals”. Mirek was super friendly, helpful, articulate and impressed us with his dry humor. The curry was very good, the tagliatelle was not a highlight but ok. It was fun and we will come here again. Awful bar man last night. Went for a cocktail. Barman (tall fella) slapped the menu down. Apparently no amaretto in the bar. He rolled his eyes when we were deciding what to get. He obviously couldn't be annoyed making 1, the bar was empty so he was hardly rushed.

Fantastic bar, lovely waiter forgot name, bald, Hungarian I believe. Organised a few pints & a couple of portions of Chicken Wings, then set up Poland 🇵🇱 Vs. France 🇫🇷 game to watch. Superb service & food.

Lovely meal with excellent service from Mirck. O% Guinness with a touch of blackcurrant was really nice ( never thought that about a beer before!). A few more vegetables with my chicken would have been good, but that's probably my personal preference. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious.

Excellent Pub in Belfast‘s Cathedral Quarter. Live music on weekends. Friendly staff, normal Pub food and a huge variety of beers. Sometimes 3 bartenders are in service who realize wonderful cocktails. On weekends you‘d make an online reservation to get your table.

We had some traditional fish'n'chips. Can't complain about anything. Excellent service, really good live music and atmosphere. Good Guinness and Maggies Leap. Pricing as usual, nothing out of the box.

Pretty average 2.5 stars. Service was fairly abysmal, pint of Guinness at £6 was a rip off and the atmosphere was something akin to the local funeral parlour. Has potential but poor quality service let it down. Shame really. Only stayed for one and moved on swiftly as would probably need to buy a pack of razors or paracetamol before long.

If i could give zero stars I would. Never experienced customer service like this in my life. Walked about to look for an employee, seen a guy who was about to walk past me and asked him "excuse me?" He said he was busy, about to walk on before stopping and saying "do I need something." As if I was such an inconvenience to him, a paying customer in a bar/ restaurant where the competition is extremely high. Never the less I asked "do you work here" (as I have never been greeted by such an unwelcoming and hostile manner before in hospitality, maybe i am mistaking this man in the Northern Whig apron and shouldnt be approaching him) he replied yes of course and I asked would you have a table for 3. He said we should be standing at the sign where it says to wait for a server. (I assume this is at the front entrance, we came in via the side door which was open and has no sign at it, so I must have left my crystal ball at home last night unfortunately) he checked and told us there wasn't any availability for another 2 hours. Which is quite shocking as there was only about 4 tables taken and if you have ever been to Northern Whig before you know they have about 20 odd tables. Been in plenty of times in the past and always have a lovely meal with friendly staff but that just leaves a bad taste when the employee makes you feel so uncomfortable, for just approaching them and asking if they have availability. Really poor. Went to pizza punks which we were lucky to get a table as the place was rammed, lovely friendly staff and yummy food. Maybe its not really shocking Northern Whig only had 4 tables taken with that level of customer service.

If you want great food and great atmosphere in Belfast this is the place

Very popular venue when I visited. Reservations needed for meals. There was live music as well. Food was good. Fish was delicious but chips were a little undercooked.

I always visit this place when in Belfast. The food, drink, service and atmosphere is consistently good.

Whilst we all ate our meals it was very much standard pub grub. The roast beef was sooo over cooked it was grey and tough even for mass produced food. Roast potatoes hard and would bet they were from freezer straight into fryer. Lovely atmosphere and the Guinness apparently excellent.

Great food, and the doormen/bouncers are very friendly and accommodating, but the bar staff are rude every single time we visit and this ruins the experience. Crazy to think this place would hire such a crew of insolent brats.

My husband and I walked into this restaurant on the recommendation of a guest who was outside the front door having a smoke. The service was excellent - prompt, polite and very helpful explaining various options on the menu. The menu included a variety of choices from traditional restaurant fare - steak, fish and chips, Ceasars salad - to cosmopolitan selections - curry, sausages, tagliatelle, reasonably priced, beautifully presented. The wait staff was super polite and very pleasant. Thanks Mirek! You made our stay in Belfast a memorable dining experience!
