Northern Monk Brew Co in Leeds

The brewery tour is excellent; it's only a small brewery, but they've very friendly, informative, and interactive. And the tour carried on into the tap room; the host was really attentive.

Always a pleasure to come here whenever I am on Leeds.

We did the brewery tour and had an awesome time with Callum(tour guide), who was very knowledgeable and happy to entertain many questions. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes craft beer and would like to understand more about the production process and company ethos of Northern Monk.

Went for a Brewery Tour - gifted as a present - really great, Callum was entertaining and informative, seemed really passionate about brewing. Some great ales, although, not to everyone's liking. Certainly enjoyed it, would do definitely return.

We booked Northern Monk Chapter Hall for our wedding and all the team were amazing from planning to the big day! We would highly recommend for all those looking for a more informal wedding venue with industrial vibes where you can bring your own personal touch to. The venue is also in walking distance to Leeds train station and there are parking options nearby. There is also the option to rent decoration items, such as napkins, table cloths, hurricane vases, etc. Big thanks to all the team and Liz in particular for your help, you all made it the day it was!

Today I had both my best ever fish and chips and the best alc free larger. Big respect to the chef who put so much dedication and attention to detail into a stunning dish. It looked and tasted like a reinvention of a classic. The Peak Citra Lager was so tasty, I almost don’t want to drink proper lager anymore!

I came to try the larger as want it for my pub. I can thoroughly recommend the lager and the venue, just gorgeous! I also tried the Northern Monk/Timothy Taylor's stout collab, which was very good too. Great place.

Drinks⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Service⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Vibe⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is our fourth visit to the Northern Monk Refectory. The beer choice was really good. We were served in what was supposed to be 1/3 measures. Unfortunately, they were well short of that. The food we had was very good. But the short measures put a dampener on our visit.

My partner and i were gifted a tour of the brewery here and we had an amazing time. The tour was very informative and Callum was so friendly. We loved every minute. The beer was great and we really enjoyed sitting in the refractory after the tour. Definitely recommend coming here either for the tour or just for a drink - all the staff behind the bar were lovely as well. Definitely coming back!!

Came to get a quick pint and were turned away 15 minutes before closing. Disappointed to say the least.

This is my favourite place in Leeds. Beer is excellent and it is always so friendly and welcoming. We were there on a curry day and the food was fantastic.

Northern Monk Refectory is one of the best beer and food places in Leeds. Fresh as is possible beer and food from the amazing Jah-Jyot. Make sure you visit whenever you are in Leeds.

Called in for a swift one, which turned into two. Faith on draft is some of the nicest hazy IPA I’ve ever had, and that chip butty was spot on. Lovely staff too. Will be calling again.

El servicio desde el momento en que llegas es genial, el personal es apasionado por las cervezas que venden y es tan refrescante poder hacer preguntas y realmente saben sobre las cervezas que están vendiendo. Hablé con el personal sobre el menú y me recomendaron probar el curry de cordero, estoy muy contento de haberlo hecho. ¡Fue increíble! Normalmente tengo mi curry con chapatis, pero el arroz estaba muy bien cocinado y tenía un sabor encantador. Las cervezas eran todas brillantes, tuvimos la oportunidad de probar bastantes como ningún trabajo al día siguiente! En general, muy bueno y sin duda merece la pena una visita. Para las cervezas, curry y servicio amable.

Such a great place for a beer. Really good vibes, excellent service and beer knowledge and dog friendly too!

The staff here are always super friendly. They have interesting beers and are always willing to talk through recommendations with you. The venue is well laid out and feels relaxed and friendly. I've tried the food twice now and have had a poor experience both times. This time the cheesy chips were oily to the touch, lukewarm, and the cheese was hard and unmelted. The Oakra Fries were, again, oily and lacked bite. I've read other positive reviews of the food and so may just have been unlucky. For beer, for relaxing, for a wonderful sun-trap on a nice day - definitely a venue of choice. For something to eat - probably not.

Great place! There is a good selection of food. Of course a very good selection of freshly tapped beer! You can also book merch on site and a brewery tour. You can of course also buy some beers in cans and bottles in the fridge. The food was super tasty. Beers were super tasty. The staff were all very nice and helpful. You felt completely comfortable. THE FOOD! Excellent. Beer and music good too.

Service - Emma the bartender was really positive, bubbly, pleasant, and patient in explaining and recommending beers. Brian the owner was really enthusiastic, and informative, taking time to discuss beers and methods. Drink - A great selection of their own drinks and continue to bring out new ones. Food - Sides: The Okra Fries were great and slightly like a green bean stalk in batter, not spicy. Small plates: The Green King Prawns were good, small prawns in spice with green leaves with a slice of lime, very spicy. Small plates: The Fish Pakora was a bit overdone but delicious inside and on a terrific pea puree.

The refractory is on three levels. The ground floor is the brewing area. First floor is the bar and tap room and the second floor is for private events. The beers are great and the brewery tour is fantastic. Ed gave our brewery tour and he was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend it, worth every penny. The outdoor area is very cool

Disappointed that most of the beer on tap are not their own. I absolutely love their stouts but there wasn’t any. However the vibes are quite good if you’re here for social.

We were here for a beer launch and gig, both of which were excellent 👌. The location is a short walk from the station. We were in the event space on the top floor. Slight criticism was dirty shared toilets, despite there being 5 cubicles, they were all grubby and soiled. Very good beer, and great decor/vibe.

Northern Monk is once again home to the amazing food from Jah Jyot and Grilling Me Softly. After talking to Ranie for so long, we finally got to try his food and meet him in person! He has teamed up again with Anthony, one of our favourite chefs in the business, so we knew this was going to be something special. The residency at Northern Monk was absolutely popping when we went and deservedly so. The menu is Indian inspired Street Food in the form of Flatbreads, Small Plates and Sides. We have heard nothing but great things about their Indian Sunday Roast so will be back for that! One word of advice, come here hungry as they arent messing around with the portion sizes. We ordered the Small Plates Platter and expected a taster of each of the small plates but you basically get each one! An absolutely great deal! I dont think i can justify in writing just how good this food is- it is absolutely delicious and ticks every box on taste, quality, presentation, ingredient pairings. Everything was just singing with bold flavours and we savoured every bite What we ordered Salt and Pepper Squid with Wasabi Aoili- I am always sceptical about ordering squid as so many times it comes out rubbery and soggy. This was absolutely not the case here- the Creole batter was cooked to the perfect level. It was super super crispy while managing to keep the squid inside nice and soft- it was also nicely seasoned too giving that classic salt and pepper vibes. The pairing Wasabi packed a real punch too and brought out the flavour of the squid more. Everything about this dish was perfectly balanced Jeets Chops- This is a nod to Ranie's dad and what a stunning dish it is. Locally sourced high quality Lamb Chops cooked pink and marinated in a range of herbs and spices. There was so much soft juicy tender meat on these little beauties and the pairing sharp green chutney worked so well to elevate the flavours further. Chicken Lollipops- Boy did these pack a punch with the aromatic firey spicy coating. They were really tasty and the meat was super juicy inside- definitely no dry chicken here. Brett loves a fried chicken dish and this one was no exception. The sweet sauce circling the plate worked really well too to cool down the heat of the crispy chicken skin Grilled Rump, Yorkshire Goats Curd, Pickles, Salsa Verde, Crispy Onion- Anthony cooks a mean steak with pairing sauce so we know this was definitely one of his dishes from the menu. This steak was cooked to perfection with a lovely soft buttery pink centre. Who knew Goats Cheese would be such a good compliment to steak- the tangy savoury creamy richness of the cheese works so well. The Salsa Verde was zesty and fresh and the onions added a nice crunch to the meat Khubha Aloo (Wild Mushroom, Punjabi Masala, Garlic and Coriander Mash) Wow this was such a warming bowl of goodness. We always say some of the best curries are the Vegetarian ones and this absolutely fit that theory. It was punchy with a subtle kick of heat and we loved the earthiness of the wild mushrooms. The pairing mash was gorgeous- creamy, rich and bursting with that floral zingy coriander flavour Faith Battered Colley (White Fish in Northern Monk Beer Batter with Dill and Samphire Tartar) Wow there was so much fish packed into these little chunks of goodness. It was excellent quality and so flakey soft. The batter was absolutely gorgeous- crispy, thick, flavourful and not greasy. The salty sharp creamy tartar was such a great dip for the fish bites. Such a moreish dish that we could have carried on eating

Didn't go for food, walking distance from Bomba and found this hidden gem, very chilled vibe with plenty of drinks available.

Nice little craft beer / brewery tap. A short stroll from the centre but worth it. Nice outside areas but not suitable for our February visit. Plenty of craft to choose from. Not many mainstream beers, mostly sours and fruity versions with a couple of pales on our visit. Still a good choice. Food looked superb. Traditional slightly surly craft bar staff.

No food service. We were told that as me and My girlfriend kissed at the bar that we were too drunk and could not be served any more. Felt a little ridiculous and offensive. Left with our friend group and won't be returning. Little inappropriate to accuse a couple of drunkeness. Really annoyed when I left this place. Genuinely upset at the service and how we were treated. Feel they just didn't want us there anymore. Embarrassed both me and My girlfriend. Very unhappy about this place. We left 1 hour ago, and it has totally ruined our evening. If you don't want groups in, that is fine, do not blame individuals for acting normally. Just say groups aren't welcome. Couldn't be any more annoyed by tonight

It's a bit of a walk from the city centre ( probably just the work on the railway station) but it's well worth it, the beer's are spot on, I'll be back 👍

Great bar, with a good selection of beers and drinks. Food is quality. Wednesday night is quiz night (Feb to Dec) Alasdair the quiz master is brilliant! The pub quiz with various rounds. We had a great time and a proper laugh.

Brilliant brewery tap, a must visit in Leeds. Came early evening on a Thursday, not too busy and good deal on Northern Monk beers. Great choice, enjoyed two excellent cherry sour collabs.

Just a great place. An excellent rotating selection of the best beer - Northern Monk are one of the best breweries in the UK. The food is also on rotation but always been excellent when I have visited. The staff are also wonderful. Really friendly.

Well it's about time that you had control of your website so people don't take a long walk to find you are closed for a private event. Well off to find a brewery that is on the ball and knows what is doing.

Lovely ambience, liked the design of the place, and great beer available. Seriously need to sort out the carparking! A massive empty permit-holder only carpark right outside - surely some agreement could be made for customers? As is, not suitable for visiting in a car, but relatively close to the centre of Leeds (18 min walk) if you venture in on public transport.

They were the venue for my daughter's wedding. They were great. And the beer was great! We had a little tour too. Really interesting.

Probably my favourite pub in Leeds, I say 'probably' because there's a lot of tough competition. Always a great choice with friendly staff that are more than happy to recommend and give you a taster. Lovely atmosphere and a fantastic looking venue.

Faith is just really good tbh… I mean the pint not religion, but that’s good too. Everywhere else I went I had a pint and I just kept thinking, it’s just not as good as faith. Didn’t have food but have in the past. Seating outside and in.

This is a great place , had a lot of choices of beer and the outside area to drink was very chilled with great music , the food here was really tasty too!

Everything about this Taproom just oozes excellence. The beer list was amazing on the day I visited and the Smash Burger was genuinely the best burger I’ve ever eaten. Ad to that the cool surroundings and friendly staff, this is a must visit craft beer venue when in Leeds.

The Refectory was a must visit for me whilst in Leeds. Definitely a top 5 English brewery imo and their tap room experience lived up to expectations. Pop upstairs to order from their extensive tap list and back downstairs to enjoy an awesome outdoor space. Plenty of beers available to-go. On a sunny day, a wonderful space to sit and sip brews. Friendly staff.

A fantastic pilgrimage to a fave brewery, all the way from Scotland. Callum gave a great tour and made sure we had a good time. Food was exceptional. Beer was tremendous. Lost a star for serving a tomahawk steak with plastic cutlery though! Knife snapped trying to cut it, and fork prongs pinging everywhere…

Easily my favourite craft beer place in Leeds. Has a more intimate feel than other breweries, who have more of a high bay industrial unit approach. They always have a great cross section of styles, and are happy to offer samples. On our last visit we also had some food which was also excellent, and prices were reasonable.

Great spot. Cool historic building (the old Flax Store). Close walk to downtown and train station. 16 beers on draft and 2 on cask the day we weee there. Shout out to servers Max and Fiona - friendly and knowledgeable!!

Great place to drink. Wide range of good beers. Interesting setting - very well converted building. Too many smokers round the door for 5 stars but that might vary from day to day.

Excellent range of beers and venue, it's a bit out of the way but that's a bonus to be honest as it tends to mean the idiots who are just on the razz don't bother coming over from the town centre.

Great place, with exciting pop up food stalls outside whilst I was there for an event. Can't comment on the beer because I don't drink, but everything else was fine (apart from the odd rat arsed reveler who looked old enough to know better). That said, I'm sure everyone was having a lovely time.

What a fantastic find! A little out of the way but with more house craft beers on tap than you have fingers, and all set in what I think is an old but refurbished fire station. Really good venue let down only by the food… we ordered “loaded nachos”… came out cold.

Nice tabels and decor inside, though up steep stairs so if you struggle with stairs be warned. Outside setting, great selection of beer, food on offer though vegan options limited. We had fries.

I stupidly never take photos when I go here so apologies, but the beer is always fantastic and the food is tasty af too. Its a bit out of the way which means the vibe is always delightful, as the people who are there have chosen to turn up not just stumble in. Love you Northern Monk 🥰

Look, northern monk is my favourite brewery bar none. HOWEVER, for their flagship taproom the beer is overpriced and there really should be a ground floor bar. It's also quite awkward to get to, which obviously can be forgiven due to the history but you'd hope would mean flexibility on prices.

The staff are an absolute dream, beer selection is unreal and its just an all round great place to be x

Great beers, great service and delicious burger

My partner and I got married here a few weeks back, we couldn’t have been more happy with the day! Bekha & the rest of the NM staff helped to our every need (one being to join in with the partying). We can’t wait to be back soon, especially whilst faith is on!

Been wanting to visit here for years. Great beers, the vegan burgers and rosemary fries from the pop up place were incredible and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Attentive and knowledgeable staff, a great range of in-house beers, collaborations and guest options. Add in their dog-friendly attitude, support for local developments and a rotating cast of wholesome food partnerships, and you've got a seriously appealing venue.

Love love love their beer, especially Little Faith. It’s my favourite local beer in the whole of Leeds. Tap room is nice, if a little out of the way. Beer garden looks great for summer and it’s dog friendly!

The beer and service is amazing. So many beers. Had chips which were amazing super Crispy finished with thyme and delicate spiced. Awesome.

Edit: been coming for a while now and things have changed a bit since after lockdown. While the staff are not rude, there is no friendliness really. The atmosphere is quite cold therefore, with no smiles or warmth, and feels very cliquey among the staff who do their own thing and seem to be the main customers. It is still child and dog friendly but the brews have increased a lot in price and I searched all winter for a decent stout to no avail - just IPA after IPA. We bought a can (IPA no surprise there) for takeaway which was £5.50 still after the discount and it was mediocre, and didn't taste of the flavours advertised at all. It's also still not wheelchair accessible, and quite out of the way from town. What was once shiny and new, full of promise and creativity, off the beaten track and with legit, tasty beer has now become quite tired, boring, gimmicky, a bit too chilled and unimpressive sadly.

Incredible place, such a great selection of drinks and always something new to try. Beautiful outdoor space in the sun and also really dog friendly. We had to try the tacos after a few pints and they were literally the best tacos in Leeds, my friend is from America and even he was impressed by the tacos here, which is saying something. Please give this place a try especially if you have a doggo.

Beetje verstopt op een industrieterrein ligt deze brouwerij. Informatieve rondleiding met iets te grote groepen waardoor de spreker niet altijd goed te volgen is. Na afloop is er de mogelijkheid een aantal verschillende bieren te proeven in de pub op de tweede verdieping. Moderne brouwerij waar de nostalgie van vele andere kleine brouwerijen ontbreekt.

Really disappointed with the communication here. I first sent an enquiry 5 months ago about booking tables for a group of 15 on a saturday lunchtime and I never got a response, and I tried ringing on numerous occasions and never got through. When I emailed the 'bookings' email address I got a reply a week later saying they "have phased out our booking system here at the Refectory but please do pop in and join us for a drink! See you then". To me that reply suggested we should be alright, and as the person I was booking it for is a huge fan of the brewery I thought we will chance it and go well before the rest of our group turned up to get a table. I had never been before so had no idea how small the place actually was. Well we turned up and most of the tables were reserved for people on the brewery tour, there wasn't even room for a couple let alone a group and you couldn't stand around at the bar either. Why couldn't they have simply told me in their email reply that on saturday afternoons they are mostly full with people on the brewery tour and it's incredibly unlikely that 15 people not on this tour would be able to stand in here let alone get a table? We would have spent the money on the tour if we'd known this in advance
