Northern fish restaurant in Moray

The worst chips I have ever tasted! They were dripping in grease but thankfully the portions were very small so didn’t have to throw too much in the bin! Absolutely disgusting and expensive too. Don’t even bother going here the food is horrible, overpriced and dripping grease.

Fish supper wouldn’t feed it to ma dogs. Tasted off,mickey mouse portion. Wouldn’t go back. Usually good but went down hill

Fish was moist but small. Batter seemed to have been cooked from frozen. Small portion of pale chips cooked in old oil. Wouldn't recommend

Lovely time capsule as other reviews have said. Fish batter lovely and good fish, very decent mushy peas. Staff really welcoming. Glad we found this gem, if it were in London it would be packed due to the old school experience! Definitely will be back and soon.

Chips dry not nice, batter on fish not good and funny smell.in shop was off-putting. Definitely won't go there again

Genuine no nonsense chip shop. It’s been here for ever and never disappoints. Excellent chips and delicious crispy scampi.

Fancied a chip supper and wasn't disappointed we ordered single haddock and an oap chick fillet supper best fish I've had for a while and the wife's chick fillets and chips really good big portion for an oap reasonably priced with good service would go back

I can’t comment on the food as I don’t get to eat here but I have never been treated so badly by staff before. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Very dissatisfied

This was the only chippy open as it was late on the 23rd December and my first time trying this chippy. Absolute garbage. I love a steak pie but the steak pies here are awful. The steak was hard and tasted bad and the pastry was just as bad. Portion sizes were tiny. Wont be back there ill happily Stick to adolfos

Very small portions, fish supper costs nearly £8, u could count the chips and the fish was the size of a sardine!!

Nice people serving and freshly made products Chips a bit hard last time but I will give it another go

Tasty enough put portion size is crap for what you pay; had better :( Started eating Chinese takeaways from across the street as much more for your nickle and far tastier.

The worst chips I’ve ever had. I asked for the large portion. So overpriced. The portion was a small size and tasteless. The consistency was dry. The white pudding was disgusting. Nothing was like the pictures I saw online. I tried another white pudding on Skye and it was really nice not dry and tasteless like the one they gave me.The toilet was dirty, the floor wet.Also, I didn’t feel welcome at all. The owner and the staff are so rude that I wish I didn’t order while I was waiting for my take away to be ready. I felt so uncomfortable.After eating such a small dinner portion I was still so hungry I had to go to get another meal in a close pub. The worst experience during my Scottish holidays! Avoid this! I’m giving one star because there isn’t zero!

Bienvenue dans les années 60La déco est vieillotte au possible mais le tourne disque est super sympa !On s installe sur les minuscules tables façon resto américain. Ça sent comme dans les boucheries L accueil est moyennement chaleureux mais on mange plutôt bien.Fish and Chips et macaroni and cheese On ne vous propose pas de dessert ni de café, on paye et on s en va !

Lived in Elgin for over 40 years did our courting over a bag of fish and chips every Friday lunch time during the 80s! Moved away,came back and tried other chip shops but there is no doubt the Northern do the best fish and chips. Highly recommended.

This long established restaurant has a fantastic reputation for quality and excellence over many, many years. I remember it from my school days and a recent visit did not disappoint. We had a Chicken Supper and a Mock Chop Supper cooked to perfection and tasted great (just as I remembered from the 'old' days.Generous portions and reasonably priced. Has a juke box thru back and booth type formica seating. Lovely atmosphere but maybe should have had the macaroni and been more specific with fish and chips: looks like you could have got tea and bread n butter with fish supper! Probably need to revamp the menu and ask people if they would like extras i.e. beans/peas. Chips were a bit scarce, fish was OK hubby had tea and got coffee. (would have been good to have herbal tea). Maybe we are just used to more genorous portions, fresh chips and fish. We ate it but were disappointed.

Queue for 10 minutes before my order was even taken. There was two people before me who's orders were already taken and a lady in front of me who had been waiting even longer to have her order taken. This chip shop dose not do kids meals, I ordered an ice cream for my child for while we was waiting, after standing at the ice cream counter for 15 minutes and not getting the ice cream I eventuality had to ask for it. The food from this chip shop it not to great, the fish tasted like it had been previously frozen and the batter on the fish tasted like Yorkshire pudding and was undercooked. The staff at this restaurant are not very good at customer service, not only is the service not quick enough but they also come across as rude and Moody.

OK, it's not The Ritz, but it doesn't pretend to be. It's a good old fashioned chip shop, with the formica booths - a real throwback to the 1970's - so I knew what to expect. This was what I wanted and this is what I got. The operational Jukebox - yes Jukebox - was a real bonus.

Ordered 2 fish suppers tonight for a cost of £15 to come home to a tray with a few soggy chips and half a fish each.

Ate here for a quick meal as was short on time. Husband had chicken and chips - lovely crispy batter and newly cooked piping hot chips . I had a battered sausage and the same good chips however the batter on my jumbo sausage was soft and chewy and the sausage itself was not as hot as it should have been. What happened there?

Hadn't been in for years. No change to the decor. Fish and chips freshly cooked and tasty. The coffee used to be the best in Elgin but not even close anymore.

Hungary ? This is the place to refuel. The batter on the fish was thin and the fish was great. Had the 2 piece Fish and chips but I will order and extra piece the next time I am there. This place has been open for business since 1935 so they must be doing something right.

Stopped at this quaint old fish and chip shop after quite a few whiskies. Great to be able to sit in and play the jukebox in this beautiful immaculate old style cafe. Food was tasty and fresh, hit the spot when the munchies set in

Comimos en un tiempo- a 3:00 pm. Éramos los únicos clientes, así que un poco preocupado por la calidad de la comida, pero nos sorprendió gratamente! El pescado era increíble, con un recubrimiento de luz delicioso crocante. No demasiado grasiento. No tiene sabor grasa antigua. Las patatas fritas (chips) eran abundantes. No es el mejor que he tenido, pero sabroso. Un montón de diferentes bebidas ofrecidas. Los bancos son respaldados y estrechas así significaba para una corta visita a corto plazo.

Very nice fish and chips. Nothing has changed decor wise in this chippy for many years and that's no bad thing especially for an older generation that remembers the Formica clad walls and booths. Thoroughly recommend it

Went for our dinner two plates of macaroni one plate of chips ,I couldn't believe the amount of macaroni it was absolutely shocking,looked like they opened a tin and gave us half each that cost us 4.50 for eacb plate,my other daughter had chips she couldn't eat them cos they had a mouldy taste

We came with my family and we enjoyed the cooking ! Fries are fresh and the fish is very good !This place is perfect to have a good time and enjoy with friends or family !

In there a lot with a friend of mine for lunch, everyone's very friendly and it's nice and quiet in the booths at the back. The prices are good and the food's always delicious.

Friendly welcome. Booths rather uncomfortable - very old-fashioned! Food delivered quite quickly. Fairly small portions, but hot.

Good food from here always cooked freshly, but defiently stingy on the size portions. Not a lot atall for the money.

Excellent fish and chips from a long standing, honest & traditional fish and chip shop. No its not in anyway intended to be a modern shop in appearance- but its spotlessly clean & what you see is what you get- having previously been a customer of a different local fish and chip shop i popped in here on passing one evening & i was not dissapointed- best fish and chips I've had in years.. been back in almost weekly since then and never seen any difference in the great quality i'd had the first night. Love how its made to order & i don't mind waiting for it either. You get what you pay for.

Great food, great service, worth a visit, like how real chip shops should be. Perfect portion size, not like places you get now a days where you always send food back that gets thrown away. Tea and buttered bread like is used to be. Spot on.

Sometimes the food is excellent, but there are times when the batter is soggy and the fish dry. Certainly better fish and chips can be found locally.

Formica tables and the menu take you back to an earlier age, but the fish supper was excellent. Tasty haddock, crisp batter and good thick chips, all cooked to order. Great!

Was told this chippy was worth a visit, thats what I should have done , just visited. The takeaway supper was not worth the wait and the money. my first and last time in this place.

Me and my partner were just passing by and decided to order two portions of £1 bag of chips, we asked the owner (who was serving us at the time) for a bit of cheese on our chips, expecting our order to come to no more than £3.50 max, it was £5! Meaning our extra cheese cost us £3!! Thats more than both of our chips. Other chippys in Elgin would only charge 40-60p extra. I questioned this and was just told £5 over and over again. Shocking service and i will not be going back.

I came to eat the "best fish & chips of Elgin" as announced and ....well...My fist request was a diet coke with ice and I got the Coke but "the ice finished last night!" What ??Last night ?! How come, where does it come from?The fish&chips are good but nothing exceptional. Service is poor and the place is very simple.Not worth the propaganda!

I've been going to this chip shop from 1999 and the standard is always the same, amazing. The red pudding supper is just lovely. My wife loves their macaroni :)Def worth a visit

Just had a takeaway from here, worst portions I've ever seen for a chippy! Daughter got a kids meal that consisted of 3 chicken nuggets and about 7 chips!! Had to give her something after as she was still hungry, my husband and I had white pudding suppers. The white pudding was rubbery and really greasy and the amount of chips was ridiculous with a lot of them being undercooked, should of really gone back to complain but the kids were hungry and I promised them a treat! Will not be back just unfortunate that the other chippers in elgin are closed on a Sunday.

First things 1st the food from this place is some of the best chippie food i have ever had, By far the BEST in Elgin. However in my personal opinion the prices were a smidge too high. I would still go back though

Stopped here on the way back to hotel 1 night and were lucky as they were just about to close but no prob in you come they said and they made us a couple of fresh fish suppers which were quality, the added bonus was we were able to eat them there as it was raining outside ! Lovely and friendly owners who after talking to them have been there for a long time and I can see why !!!!

Best chip shop in Elgin, also very reasonably priced. Food is always great and freshly cooked. Best curry sauce I've tasted! Cheeseburgers are fabulous! Also the Staff are always friendly. Has Clean surroundings too, great to eat in or takeaway. Only chip shop we use! Much better than the over priced Ashvale!

It was like stepping back in time, they have kept all the old decor and even a old jukebox !Decent food with properly cooked chips (not the usual pale rubbish that you often get). Think possibly the food is fried in beef dripping (?) but still good. Friendly service & sensible prices. If you want to remember chip shops like they used to be - then this one is certainly worth a visit.
