Just a bag eh chips fae here. They were good but a fiver for some deep fried tatties was a bit steep.

Felt it was very expensive to be honest. £10.50 for a poor quality mince pie (bells Scotch pie out the coop) Won't be back.

What to say.on entering premisis greeted with appalling attitude.let that go !!. had fish and chips.the fish was dry batter burnt and tasted of burnt oil on the bright side chips were great.over priced imo. Would not recommend 1 star and thats only because can't go lower than that

Asked for single haggis got a supper. Chips pretty sad haggis beyond dry batter very hard. Seems to have been sitting for several hours. 2 fish suppers and the haggis £31.70. The fish was very smelly

Average chippy. The fish and the king rib had been prepared in advance and had dried out while sitting there. The service was good and the chips were okay.

OMG! the homemade coleslaw and chicken strips are amazing. Freshly cooked and lovely staff.

This was the best fish and chips I've had in years. Introduced me to battered pizza- I need this again. Its just a brilliant place, I hope to be in the area again sometime to call in.

Lovely staff , polite and friendly, food very tasty and every where is very clean .

Chicken burger £5. 1cm thick the size of the palm of your hand. Wouldn't be enough for a kids meal. Served up on a plain bun, no mayo or lettuce. This place isn't a chippy, it's a cafe pretending to be a chippy (or the other way around), so the food isn't chippy standard but the prices are that of a cafe. Avoid, seriously

Always nice and friendly staff. Love their chips, cheese and curry sauce. It's proper Chinese style curry sauce! Would highly recommend.

Die Zeit scheint an diesem Ort stehen geblieben zu sein. Die Einrichtung hat mich an die 60er erinnert. Alles ordentlich und sauber. Das Essen ist sehr gut! Wirklich frisches Brot mit Butter. Hähnchen und Fisch war sehr gut und lecker. Die Pommes hätten eine längere Fritierzeit vertragen können. Große Getränkeauswahl. Sehr, sehr freundliches Personal. Preislich nicht sehr günstig, aber das liegt wohl an der derzeitigen Situation.

Went to the northern chip shop on Friday for a fish supper. It is a long time since I have had such a good fish supper. Thank you very much and I will be back.

I'll be honest, I used to hate this place and thought it was terrible, haven't eaten from there in years because of it... BUT... This time was very very good, 20x better than the 'other chippy in forres'. It has improved so much and I definitly be back. The batter was golden and crisply as it should be, portion sizes were great, and the prices are much more reasonable for the food than the other place. The only reason it dropped a star was I thought the chips were a little bit on the dry side. Apart from that, thank you and well done, a definite improvement from the last time I ate there.

Service was good, food was ok but only getting 4 chicken fillets in a £7.50 supper isn't great.

Poor, for £8.50 (Haddock and chips) you will get hardly anything, haddock was undercooked and the chips hardly cooked through. Asked for it to be wrapped since I was eating elsewhere and was handed the box with barely an sheet of paper folded loosely around, didnt even wrap all the way around! Wont be coming here again.

Lovely chip shop my wife had the battered haddock was good lovely batter light and crispy. I had the battered garlic chicken strips which were lovely nice garlic flavour chips were nice. I am a tourist up in lovely Scotland from Wales for a week but this chip shop was brilliant cone and open one in Wales near me lol

Great chips but very expensive for Veggie pakora and jalapenos

Without a doubt the WORST chipper around. The fish were so rubbery that they put boot soles to shame, the battered "cheese burger" was a glorified miccymeal with no cheese and no bun, the chips were about as apatising as pencil shavings, the dirty fries were cold and the vinegar was basically brown water. Terrible chipper, better off eating out of a bin

Tasty, different flavour of King rib to what I'm used to. But tasty all the same. Decent portion and didn't take long to cook.

The best fish cooked to perfection

Myself and a family member arrived at the shop 6 mins before it was due to close at 8pm. The door was locked and there was the maximum two customers in, due to the virus restrictions, so we waited outside in the rain. The staff saw us waiting and when they let out the two customers, one of the staff members said they were closed. It was still just before 8pm. I said we were there before they closed but she refused to let us in even falsely claiming that we had the wrong time. Not impressed with very poor customer service. I certainly wouldn't treat a customer in this way. Had a lovely takeaway from their main rival in Fleurs instead, which is where we will be going in future. In addition, all the staff in Fleurs were wearing face masks, but no sign of masks in the Northern so you can make your own minds up.

This is a regular stop for me and I can thoroughly recommend it. The chips are fresh and never greasy, and the food is really tasty. The staff are very welcoming. Wide menu including " specials " so take your time in considering their menu.

OK, wait as food prepared while you wait, bit greasy being straight from the fryers.

Ordered a mince pie supper and got a scotch pie supper instead. Was asked not to sit at the back of the shop as they were closing soon so didn't even bother to ask if they had a high chair for our 2 year old. Unfortunately we were half way through a 200 mile journey so was kind of frustrating that I could only eat the chips as I detest scotch pies.

Really enjoy the freshly cooked food here. Great selection of home made and chippy grub and friendly staff. Delicious ice cream for afters too.

Seen a lot of negative reviews but I've always enjoyed the food here. The place is under new ownership after years of being run by the Meile's. Prefer the food under the new management, they always cook the chips for longer when I ask for crispy chips and they never used to in the past. The decor could do with upgrading but in general I found it clean. At the end of the day you're paying for fish and chips not a fancy sit down meal. Tried a chippy in Buckie and it was a lot worse than here which surprised me, so it is worth giving this place a try if you're not sure.

Disappoint someone got my order wrong 3 times on 3 separate occassions.

I have been going here on and off for at least 60 + years. I don’t remember it ever being any different from as it is now. It was probably last done up in the early 1960’s but still continues to produce good honest food. I always have fish chips and beans. The seats are the fixed variety, as a bigger person, I just fit in. Service is prompt and the food good if plain. The way I like it. I always come away satisfied. Although the decor is a tad tired, it is nice and clean. As far as I recall, the door is always open, summer and winter and most of the working day and evening. Not pretentious, well cooked food with friendly staff.

Expensive, disorganized staff, average quality fish and chips. Time to rename the Forres fish bar " THE PHEONIX" and get it rebuilt never had better fish and chips.

Please please don't go here. Shocking service, handed £20 over for a £3.50 purchase. Got £6.50 back you do the math. After a few moments I question the cashier on his mistake who then replied while pointing at a sign and said that I should of checked my change at the time off purchase. He refused to give me my correct change. So after taking £10 from me they couldn't even give me hot chips!! They were lukewarm at best. I strongly suggest you look elsewhere for food.

Gone downhill drastically since being sold by Miele's. Went in tonight for sit down service. Ordered chicken fillets, Pineapple fritter and some onion rings. No longer do pineapple fritters, you must have chips with the chicken fritters, and minimum order of 10 onion rings. Pot of tea for 3 only provided 2 and a half cups, had to ask for extra tea. The new owner was working at the counter, hair untied and in outdoor clothing (fleece top which is extremely dangerous in a kitchen with naked flames and hot oil). Definitely won't be back anytime soon. Such a pity as the chipper has been there for over 80 years. Mr Miele, I'm annoyed you sold it!

Pasó por aquí dos veces para patatas fritas para llevar pescado n mientras estaban de vacaciones en Forres. He usado este sitio durante años y no puedo recordar estar decepcionado en ninguna de las comidas. Las mujeres que trabajan aquí son encantadores y se tome tiempo para charlar mientras espera su pescado para ser cocinados a la orden.

After a weekend in Ross-shire, where we had two enjoyable hotel meals, on our way home we fancied a 'Chippy Tea'

El servicio es bueno y nos sentamos en previsión de una buena comida. Vimos una mujer mayor iniciar el proceso, pero que dejó a una chica joven para terminar. El bateador era extremadamente pasada y el pescado estaba insípida, probamos, pero ninguno de nosotros pudo acabar la comida. Mi esposa en realidad sentí sickish y decidimos marcharnos. Al acercarse al mostrador para pagar por la comida, la chica pidió?" era todo bien "Mi esposa dijo "No, en realidad no disfrutan de los peces y el bateador tiene me hizo sentir enfermo. "Chica. . "Ah, lo siento, que será de £15 - 50. "Necesito decir más? ?

Sólo había pescado y patatas fritas desde aquí y fue asqueroso. Las fichas de aspecto y sabor como hubieran estado fritos más temprano en el día y luego re fritos cuando les pedimos. El bateador en el pescado era simplemente mushing y el pescado era insípida. A sólo 16 libras por dos pescado y patatas fritas y un solo pescado y más de fui a la papelera.

Paramos aquí para una comida esta noche y sin duda volveremos. El pescado (abadejo) era muy sabrosa, la pasta crujiente. Las patatas fritas eran perfectas, es tan raro estos días para encontrar las patatas fritas que no están cubiertas en negro o patata peel. El personal era amable y eficiente y el precio era muy razonable. Pequeña crítica, la taza de té no fue muy agradable.

Mi esposa y yo nos recomendaron este café tienda de peces por los miembros de la familia que había utilizado en varias ocasiones en el pasado. Así que quizás la gestión personal o han cambiado, porque nuestra experiencia no fue buena. Fuimos a las 6 de la tarde y estaba bastante tranquila. Elegimos el pescado y patatas fritas con té en el menú dado a nosotros por el asistente, el precio es de £ joven. El té llegó 5,99 muy rápido y estaba tibia. Vimos un montón de gente que viene para comida para llevar y se sirve inmediatamente. Nos llevó al menos 30 minutos para nuestra cena llega por alguna razón y pedimos otro par de tés, pidiendo que caliente esta vez. La comida era muy promedio. Nada mejor que cualquier otro "fish and chips" que hemos estado. De hecho, la masa grasa en el pescado rebosa. Cuando fuimos a pagar, nos preguntaron por £18. Sobre la consulta de esta cantidad, nos dijeron que nos despertaba ha dado el menú del almuerzo por error. Así que pagamos 9 libras cada uno por pescado y patatas fritas y 2 tazas de té. Este es un poco descuidado grasienta cafetería, un restaurante. Ten cuidado.

We popped in here for a sit down meal. Large chip shop menu. Prompt service and did not have to wait long for food. Meals were decent for the price. Would probably visit again if passing through.

From the outside it doesn't look like much but the staff are friendly and the food is delicious. I can say that is the best fish and chips I have had even my local chippy isn't as Nic as this. The batter was light and fluffy and the fish extremely tasty, the chips were nice and crunchy but not greasy. Myself, my partner and my two children polished it all off. Yum

i usually am in the forres area for a couple weeks at a time a few times a year, and when i land the second stop is always battered haggis chips and curry from the northern. always makes me feel like I'm home, and never had a bad experience....i recommend

We popped in for lunch and was the first and last time !.I had beans and chips as love the sauce over the chips shame there wasn't very much.chips were soggy all in all more taste from a glass of water very over price for what we had at over eleven pound.The restaurant was in need of a good overhaul as was outdated shame we won't be back to see if they decorate it.very disappointed.

Can't understand all of the negatives. All the meals were freshly cooked and tasty. Extremely good value and well worth the visit, plus the staff were friendly and polite, we will return.

I bought fish and chips for 4 based upon the number of school kids eating from there at lunchtime. Obviously the health promotion message has yet to reach Forres if my experience is anything to go by. In a nutshell 4 fish suppers went into the bin. I'm sure that says it all.

Bought fish and chips, which cost £6.10. A bit of a treat, as rarely have them. Chips were white as a sheet, fish was tasteless. Batter was just mush and so raw that it fell off the fish. They went in the bin, won't waste my money again.

Aweful. I wish I had reviewed it prior. Why did I not go back and complain? Too british I guess.Lets start with the hair in the food. Staff do not tie back or net. At least it was the only thing not saturated in old oil. Fish n chips. Chips were old dry heated affairs that were truly aweful. Fish was soggy with oil. Disgusting. I want to order again just to have the opportunity to throw it back and complain. Thursday night chips last week was terrible. Lets hope they go bust before insulting this years visitors.

Ordered a fishcake supper, disgusting to say the least. It had obviously been cooked a long time ago and sat drying out and hardening, the chips were not much better, managed to eat about a quarter of them, the rest were so hard they were inedible. I normally go to the 'other' chippy and will definitely be using that in future. It's such a shame this used to be the best chippy in Forres.

We ordered our chippy, when we got home portion were a joke, smaller than childs portions and swimming in oil !! Was a case of would you like fish with your batter, batter was peely wally to say the least. Not value for money will never be going again. Do yourself a favour use the other chipper in Forres

My not too trim waistline will testify to my fondness of Fish and Chips. However, that interest has taken a massive dive due to my visit to The Northern Fish takeaway in Forres last night. My partner and I can both say with all the sincerity in our hearts that the Fish and Chips that she purchased us last night, was the worst Fish and Chips we both have ever had in our lifetime. Such a disappointment after a highly recommended visit to Findhorn Beach. The Fish although a decent size for nowadays was covered in the sloppiest of batters and uncooked in some areas. When it comes to the chips, the establishment must be feeling the pinch when it comes to energy bills, they were only just cooked and were the palest of chips. Sloppy seems to be a common theme to their cuisine! It was all cooked fresh but without a queue of people, so there was no hurry to prevent proper cooking. In fact the place was empty at teatime, never a good sign for a chippy.We should of known. Do yourself a favour, carry on driving to Elgin or Nairn their Chippys actually care about what they serve up.

Arrived here at tea time sat night, wasn't very busy. Ordered lasagne for tea as had my 11 month old and thought could give her some pasta, lasagne arrived welded to bottom of dish and so hard on top couldn't get knife through it, I apologised and said I couldn't eat it, everyone else's food arrived and looked okay, my son ordered a cheese baked potato which was that small it fitted on a side plate and still had room to put other food on..... I ordered something else after shaking of the head from the head fryer, when it finally arrived it was cold in the middle but hot on the outside, when I mentioned it, I was met with head shaking and her temp gauge told her it was cooked, of which I might add was a knife she stuck in top and then checked with her fingers...... Knife not cleaned after as then noticed her doing the same when frying a carry out order. She then appeared back to tell me she put my cut white pudding back in fryer to cook but it disintegrated......with a sigh, shaking her head and hands on hips she asked did I really want something else, there was no apology, no will I get something for your little girl, her attitude was disgusting and very confrontational. Left very disappointed and quite upset at her attitude. Would NOT recommend this place to sit in.

Really good fish and chip shop. Good value and it does have a sit down area. sells Mieles ice cream, a trip to this chip shop always goes down well with the kids. :)
