Late afternoon in the sunshine and Leeds is very busy. North Bar is quite inconspicuous from the outside but the hoards of punters sat on the bench seats tell a different story. Mainly a craft beer bar and I'm really not a fan but fortunately they sell hundreds of different bottled beers from all over the place. The Belgian line up worth a special mention. Great atmosphere and recommended. So pleased to read that the company are now out of administration.

We dropped in for post meal drinks and this is a great bar. The staff were friendly, and there was wide range of cask, keg and bottled beers. Mostly very strong ABV which was interesting. The place is kind of dark and feels underground almost and really filled up after around 10pm. A band arrived playing fiddles and such like - great fun and a really nice atmosphere.

Had a few hrs in the bar today while our car was being serviced been coming here a long time and today it felt like old times the 2 girls on shift were fabulous so friendly lovely with my grandson - I know it was early and not too busy but the mark of a bartender is when they accommodate customers when some would just stand at the end of the bar so thank you girls we didn’t get ur names but I’m sure North know who u r 🙌🏻

The original craft beer bar in Leeds! It's been a very long time since I was in North Bar, the area has changed quite a bit over the years and North Bar has evolved from its Belgian Beer Café origins into an all round top quality location for craft beers, with a few Belgians still hanging around. Mostly their own great beer from North Brew co. graces the numerous pumps but there's more than enough range to keep you occupied all evening. Great relaxed vibe and a fresh modern interior which still harks back to its origins.

Went to Leeds for the weekend and were recommended this place when we got chatting to a couple of locals in another pub who also liked craft beer. The vibe, staff, and selection of beer in North Bar were 11/10, so good we came back the next day too. We tried their own IPAs Transmission and Sputnik (both amazing) as well as a few from the Verdant takeover. The staff even let us have a taster of a couple when we couldn’t decide what to get. Highly recommend!

Had a cracking few after work pints in the sun this week before a gig at the academy. I've not been in for a couple of years but it still felt welcoming. Tables now outside let us sit and enjoy some sunshine. I really enjoyed the Dim Sum for tea, not had it in a bar before but it really worked. The classic sputnik on draft is the real highlight for me, probably my favourite pint at the moment. I hope to be back soon

We have frequented North Bar many many times over years when shopping in Leeds but NO more. Went up to the bar to order to see a sign saying “Card Only”. Not having a card on me, I asked if that was a firm rule and why. On told it was a firm rule I said ok but we won’t be coming back. A young male member of staff sat on the bench opposite the bar exclaimed “Good riddance, don’t come back” as I was leaving. I turned, approached him and gave him a piece of my mind. While it is not up to me to criticise what is a business decision in not taking cash, the attitude of the member of staff was appalling.

My twin brother Stephen and I visited North Bar on a beautiful sunny afternoon and what a great time we had. This bar looks superb, an edgy industrial look, eclectic decor and furnishings including a superb looking serving bar that dominates the main room, there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout this bar both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling streets around North Bar. We were greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the bar team, we had a study of their beer range and we both opted to have sputnik pale ale, served in pristine condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great bar we were in. My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale with a big hit of hops, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma and aftertaste, on a hot afternoon a totally refreshing brew. This is one of the best craft beer bars in Leeds ,it is in fact one of the first craft beer bars to open in the UK being established in 1997. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and for a first time visit to North Bar we were totally impressed. The North Bar is easy to locate along New Briggate. Opening hours are; Monday to Wednesday, Midday till Midnight. Thursday to Saturday, Midday till 2am. Sunday, Midday till Midnight. A wonderful craft beer bar, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The North Bar is a superb bar that serves superb craft beers and was probably the first craft beer bar in the whole of the UK. This fantastic craft beer bar was established in 1997 and has gone from strength to strength with a ever changing craft beer selection.Housed in a narrow nondescript building'the interior is narrow with superb use of wood stripe's on the wall's and the ceiling a nice bar and superb seating options throughout the whole interior. We came here early in the afternoon and this bar was quite full'with all the outside seating taken so we sat inside this bar after we gave all our details for the track and trace. When we visited we had a few glasses of Spudnik Pale ale from the North Brewing Co an excellent ale well served and priced. This is without doubt one of Leeds best bars that serve some of the best craft beers and is a bar I would strongly recommend visiting if you are into craft beers. So easy to find from New Briggate it's a minutes walk.(This is my first review of the North Bar). Opening Hours. Monday-Wednesday-12.00-00.00. Thursday-Saturday-12.00-02.00. Sunday-22.00-00.00. Hours May Differ From Above Due To The Covid 19 Restrictions Which End On The 19th Of July. No volveremos

Had North Bar recommended for their selection of beer. Called in at about 2.30 Friday afternoon, only 11 other customers - so, not busy!!3 staff evident - 1 talking to a couple who were just leaving, 1 behind bar "tidying" glasses, the third wandering somewhat aimlessly in the customer area. There were no other customers waiting to be served. My wife took a seat at, what turned out to be, a "sticky" table, I went to the bar. After a short while the staff member talking to the couple about to leave shouted down the bar to me "won't be long". I continued to wait. Another customer then entered the establishment and stood beside me at the bar. After another short wait the couple made their way to the door and the "chatty" staff member walked the length of the bar, passed me, picked up a pair of glasses and spoke with the customer waiting with me and then proceeded to pour him drinks. Obviously only regulars get served!!!! At 6ft 2in and 20 stone I'm a bit difficult to miss, so it must be policy not to serve new faces!!!I decided to leave without buying! When I told my wife we were leaving she commented, "good, the tables are dirty anyway".Avoid!!!

I keep having certain people tell me that 'North Bar' in Upper Briggate Leeds is an excellent place to visit for real ale.As you may have gathered I appreciate a well kept, well pulled pint of beer as much as the next man.The other thing I look for is a clean hospitable area to enjoy same without having to listen to the bar peoples favourite noise on the house loudspeaker system.Initial impressions on entering 'North Bar' for the first time the other week were not favourable with cleanliness or lack of it at the foremost. The bar person informed me the beer he recomended was local.Thankfully not the dreaded ,as it now seems,'Leeds Brewery' offerings.Whatever it was the pint was expensive and average. As all the formica tables and hard chairs were occupied so we had to sit at the top of the narrow dreary bar area.We were next to a dingy photo booth which it appears is used by clientele to enable them to post their resultant photo on the wall. Why?? !! I don't have to tell you that whist having our drink we were treated to some of the usual noise transmitted from the house pa.!After the one pint I decided I wasn't prepared to have another as certain people who recommended this establishment would appear to have a conflicting taste to myself. The major negative point that confirms my decision not to revisit is that in my opinion the place is " IN NEED OF A GOOD CLEAN" !

There was nobody waiting to be served but the barman ignored me and carried on chatting with a group of inibriated idiots at the bar. I was just about to leave when a lady appeared and served me, allowing me to sample a few ales. One was excellent, but sorry I don't pay £10 for 'any' pint of beer. I settled for an inferior but cheaper drink...it was a dark IPA, which has to be some sort of a contradiction. As I sat down there was an altracation near the door, it was the rabble from the bar area leaving, and a couple trying to enter. I heard one of the mob shout 'whites only' and then the couple left.Oh, and the wifi password appeared to be incorrect even though the bar staff insisted it wasn't - maybe my fault ?...one to avoid !

It's great to see a dedicated beer house that totally overwhelmes you with choice. Most of the beers you may have never heard of or probably wouldn't try but thats the beauty of it.They also give the local microbreweries a chance and rotate hand pulled ales. I heard they had recently taken delivery of Stargazer by Ridgeside but sadly this was not on so I had to go for Kirkstall instead.I haven't eaten here so I can't comment on that but the snack menu looks simple and would do the trick as a put-me-on. If you can't find something to drink here then you should have a reality check, slap yourself around the face and stay locked inside as you are a failure as a human.

I'm an infrequent visitor to this bar, but my good friend, Mike, loves it, much as a good banker enjoys nothing better than a bit of Libor rate rigging, and so it was three of us in all commenced a pre-Christmas ale evening at this venue. An Ilkley pale was followed by another pale, the name of which escapes me, and both went down a treat. The place was busy which is probably a testament to the friendly staff & well stocked bar and there is the added bonus of a trip of which the great Michael Palin would be proud as you journey into the very bowels (sic) of the earth in search of the (admittedly clean & tidy) water closet. But time waits for no man and, all too soon, we had to venture out into the bitter winter evening and dodge the attention of passing polar bears as we headed to our next venue.A shame in a way, for I could have spent more time in this excellent haven for the quality ale quaffer!

The North Bar doesn't change too much and neither should it. It was a forerunner in providing a huge range of worldwide beers. They always have good hand pulled ales and a good selection of spirits. Not sure about wine to be honest. What is really nice here is that if they are a little quiet behind the bar they come out and offer service. A nice touch, I think.Food is from a limited menu and is quite simple, meats, cheese and the like. It looks good though I have never partaken myself. The clientele are largely students and ex students who have made Leeds their home. Went to this bar last night on a semi-bar crawl of Leeds best ale bars. The beer selection is fantastic and certainly suited my taste of IPAs and APAs. Beers were around £5 mark, typical of this kind of venue. I liked how they were very focused on local brew too. A very fun atmosphere with photo booth in the corner. My only criticism is that you are lucky to find a seat but on a Saturday night in the centre of Leeds it also demonstrates that it is the place to be. Would reccomend!

Went on Saturday afternoon and it was busy but we were able to get seated as a group. Service was very good, wide range of beers available. Food menu was minimal so we gave it a miss. Would recommend a visit to this small bar, just off the Headrow.

Long'ish narrow bar seemingly frequented by students (as near to their campus). Predominantly wooden interior. The beers ? Excellent range. The service ? Fine as far as we were concerned. Would go there again !

This is one of the few pubs in Britain the still serve beer in traditional British pint pots, which is why my partner and I had to visit. They have a large selection of craft beer and the atmosphere is relaxed and chill. The bartender was friendly and chatted with us for a bit. However, I know this place gets super busy on weekends so I suggest going during the weekday or early evening.

I'd like to be able to review this establishment but after waiting at the bar for 20 minutes and no service I went down in Cela Bar instead. I got the sense that I wasn't cool enough for the staff. On leaving there was some poor chap collapsed outside. I noticed the patrons of North Bar were more interested in taking instagram pics of this than actually helping the chap. #savinglives. After my friends, a homeless man and I helped get this chap an ambulance we went elsewhere. I've been other times and it's been okay. There's plenty of choice.

Long before craft beer became popular, North Bar was serving up a splendid and ever-changing array of special beers. It's not changed, and while other places may have cottoned on to the secrets of its success, North Bar still provides a stunning selection of craft beers, ales and lagers. The clientele is mixed and the bar staff are relaxed but knowledgable. They're also kind enough to let you know if you've unwittingly asked for a pint of very expensive, rare beer - so you can just get a half or change your mind entirely. Very relaxed during the day but busy at night.

Nice place. Visited at lunchtime mid week. Quiet then. Decent pint and good selection. A pleasant pit stop. I didn't eat here but they do a selection of Boards, Pies, Toasties and Bar Snacks. It has wifi but I couldn't get the code to work (probably fat fingers!)

Popped in for a pint and a bar snack on a slow lunch time.Only about 4 customers already seated at tables drinking. No one at the bar at all for a minute then a girl appears and asks me what I would like. A pint of Kirkstall Best Yorkshire Bitter I say. But before she even pulls the pint a girl comes in and goes to the end of the bar past me, asks for a coffee, the barmaid sees her, obviously knows her and begins to make her a coffee. A barman then appears and asks me if I am being served which I think I am. Then another minute goes by and the bargirl tell the barman that I need serving. Well the barman says to me that he did ask me to which I reply that I thought I was being served but obviously not.I order my pint which by the way was great. I decide to not order any food due to their performance so far. Drink up and go.What I truly dislike is that in a service industry the first priority is the customer. He should be treat as a welcome guest and not as an afterthought. Good manners cost nothing.

As I say have been going in here since it opened which I think is 18 years. I still meet friends in here from then so that must say something. For me it's as good as it gets. No fancy, expensive furniture and fittings but quality drinks of all types and occasions. Friendly staff as always. I haven't eaten here for sometime but I'd have thought that as North maintains its standards and the people that do say it's basic but good so I presume it will be fine. Can't think why I am going to stop going. Well I suppose I'll die one day.

North bar has been around for years. It's a good bar right next to the grand theatre, near to a variety of other bars and restaurants at the top of town.

As with all pubs in Leeds you need a way to get people in. With The North Bar this is straight forward as the beers on offer in this establishment are awesome. From real ales to cocktails it's a task in itself what to try. Being of the real ale type I was spoilt for choice, plus the bartender gave me samples to try without even asking....which was nice. The whole look and vibe of this bar is great on the eye, also music in the background wasn't as such you felt that you had to shout at your mates to be heard. Thefood looked really good too!!Another gem in Leeds call in and try a pint or two!!!

Called in to The North Bar just by chance yesterday evening whilst killing time before going to a show at the nearby Grand Theatre. As we'd just left a nearby bar because we were the only customers, it was good to see that there were quite a few people already enjoying a drink. My husband was particularly excited (& amused!) by the extensive drinks menu & I liked the friendly, laidback atmosphere.Yes it is pricey but I assume that's the going rate in Leeds & you'd struggle to find a more substantial range of beers anywhere. We were planning to just have one drink then go for a pre-theatre Chinese meal. However, when we saw that meat & cheese sharing platters were available, we had a change of plan!Would highly recommend The North Bar, especially for those who like to try new beers. Mixed age range customers, some of whom were raving about the coffee. Each to his own!

Shabby chic but not in the fashion sense. Basic decor and seating but what an excellent atmosphere , amazing choice of beers friendly and knowledgable staff and pretty decent beer food. Wanted to come here for a couple of years but will definitely be back soon. Some of the beer is pricey and some expensive and we were lucky as they were hosting a Scandinavian beer festival. Only came for one and stayed for two and some food which we needed to soak up some very strong beer. Not as posy as some places but probably all the better for that.

Teri made our family birthday meal out perfect. She was fantastic with our boys and so attentive. We didn’t feel rushed at all and couldn’t fault her service.

Traditional British breakfast at an affordable price. Bacon was great. Everything else is just as what you would expect. Store prefers to take cash. They also have lots of sandwich / burger options that I would love to go back and try. Coffee could have been better and overall cleanliness of the place & utensils could also be improved.

The hotel was clean, modern, and well located for the railway station. Unfortunately, the air conditioning in my room was broken, and there were no other rooms available for me to change. Reception did provide a fan though, but opening the window attracted a lot of unwanted noise from the adjacent railway station.

We have been here a good several times. The food is always delicious and to a high quality. The service is exceptional and the staff are truly delightful and a return visit is a must.
