The food is generally ok and well presented, but not worth the price. We didn't order any alcohol however as it was extortionate. The service was incredibly slow especially considering how quiet the restaurant was, no explanation given. Disappointing all round for what you would expect to be a great place for hospitality

We stayed in the Clumber Park hotel and reserved to eat on the second night at the Normanton Inn. The reservatino was made for the wrong night which was the start of the issues. We went to eat and were told we would habe to wait 20 mins. We did not get to the table for 40 mins. It took ages to order. When the food came it was delicious.

As part of a supposed 4 star hotel, this "restaurant" fell well short of expectations. Food was, at best, described as ok, but the ambiance was more akin to a works canteen rather than a restaurant. Drinks arrived part way through the meal. Will not be eating here again.

We ate here last night as we were staying at the Clumber Park Hotel and Spa for the night on a bed and breakfast. The menu was not huge but there were a few specials available. My daughter had the rump steak and I had a special of duck breast with saute potato salad. Both were really delicious. The staff were friendly but the service was quite slow for the amount of people that were eating.

only a limited menu available .altho the website gave us to believe otherwise. unwisely , we chose the roast..pork loin. It was half an inch thick and nearly all fat and gristle. my friend saw others being served slices and surmised we had the end of a joint. The carrots were not cooked properly. My side salad was not worth virtually £4.,no dressing and almost all lettuce and raw carrot and cucumber strips/ skin in the latter case.Everything except the roast potatoes quickly went cold..NOT a good experience at all tho the staff were helpful and the coffee expensive tho drinkable. We were asked if we had enjoyed our meal and after a few seconds reflection I listed the above issues. I was immediately told we would not be charged except for the drinks and side salad! To add to our woes a large motorised wheelchair/ buggy came straight for us when there was absolutely not room to get through..Good to admit wheelchairs but ....my friends arm is bruised. Some supervision surely is required? My husband used both a buggy and wheelchair and there was never a problem tho the lady concerned was attached to oxygen and had to remain in her machine. Ps we had ginger beer to drink and it was the smallest such drink I have ever been offerred..and tasted. nothing like Feentimans which I enjoy..it tasted medicated

We went here as a treat last year and I forgot to review it at that time, however, as I say, it's not cheap, upmarket, but very good. Our meal was excellent, as well prepared and presented as I would expect it to be for the price. It's always enjoyed a good reputation locally. I also had an excellent lunch here a couple of years ago. The place was a little cold, and some of the décor does not reflect properly the standard of upmarket hotel and spa it represent to be in my opinion, not really anywhere near plush enough for the money. The highlight for me was the knickerbocker glory - absolutely the best, better than the ones you got as a kid! There are two versions dependent on the time of year - I had the one with chocolate brownies in, indulge yourself, what a treat, truly first class. In fact, I've been back for just a K.G.!

Called here last night to use some vouchers that my wife had been given for a birthday present. Even though I've lived in Worksop and passed this place many times, I'd never been. We called on a Saturday night having already reserved a table. We were a party of 5 and all had something different off the menu. The menu wasn't the most extensive that I"be ever seen but it offered something for everyone. There was also a 'specials board'up. The food when it arrived was excellent. We all had something different to eat and the food was hot, well presented and very tasty. The pub was quite busy as there was a large group of tourists in ( probably visiting Sherwood Forest) but the food didn't take too long to arrive. I'd say that the food was restaurant quality but it was restaurant prices. I believe that there is a restaurant and hotel in the same complex ( Clumber Park Hotel).

This was a family Saturday lunch with my parents and two sisters prior to a walk around nearby Clumber Park. The service was a little slow but very friendly and the quiet atmosphere was very welcome. The dining room décor is a bit bare but we all enjoyed the food, especially the roasted root vegetables and chips. Staff were happy to accommodate our requests to meet our dietary requirements and nothing was too much trouble. A very restful and enjoyable lunch at a reasonable price

Atmosphere nothing special, very bare room bit like a canteen or classroom actually. Nice menu, ordered steak, was cooked beautifully and was of great quality. Rioja was nice. Some staff are young and inexperienced, you have to guide them through their job. Which is OK but not that relaxing feeling of 'being looked after'.

We were visiting Clumber Park with family and I suggested that we should have lunch here. I have been here before albeit several years ago and I thought I could recommend it. How very disappointing. The general decor is now somewhat shabby and tired. The menu suggested quality food beyond the presentation of the premises. I award one star for the staff who did their best and were polite and courteous. We arrived towards the end of the busy period which meant that most diners were leaving when we ordered. That left three tables, despite that it took a good 45 minutes and several apologies before the food appeared. At one point we were told the chef was plating the food which would be with us quickly - it took another four minutes! Good food needs to be accompanied by the appropriate service and ambiance, neither of which we experienced. The staff did respond by providing coffee free of charge and also giving a 20% discount. This was however a special day for us and I am sad to say it was an enormous let down. This not somewhere we will return to.

Felt I was eating a la carte in a pub. The food, though expensive, was good but the surroundings let itself down. Very 1970s decor with wobbley tables and chairs. There were three toilet doors at the end of the room, disabled, gents and ladies. I ate my meal looking at these. Not appetising. The staff were lovely. Also there was a chalk board with dish of the day. We paid £120 in here for 4 meals. Reminded me of BHS cafe. Could so be improved without much expenditure.

We went here for Sunday lunch and it was really delicious. The previous reviews don't do it justice. The belly pork was really tender and melted in the mouth. I had a burger playing safe based on previous reviews but no need and had serious food envy of others! However, the burger was really tasty, in a fresh ciabatta with the perfect amount of chips (I swapped shoestring fries as I much prefer chunky chips and this was no bother). The service was very attentive without being too much. The toilets were immaculately clean too. The only thing letting them down was the ambience but I imagine this is because others have read the reviews and avoided but their loss! Sadly we don't live locally otherwise we would return!

We waited 45 minutes for the food to arrive - we'd ordered half roast chicken and a well done beef - could not believe what they served! The chicken was more like a shrivelled up pigeon and the beef was bleeding all over the plate - the vegetables were all well done though - so much so that you couldn't really tell what they were. The food looked as though it had been stood somewhere keeping warm for half the day. The manager arrived and apologised profusely, asking if we wanted fresh meals?? 1st of all the food was good for the money, though it did take an age to come out especially as we were the only people in. Now that's the only good bits..We were told we couldn't have any draught beer as the cooler wasn't working because of a tripped fuse. The service was so slow. When I returned for another drink as the waitresses were stood around talking and didn't realise we could do with another I stood at the bar for what seemed ages before they decided they would stop talking and serve me!! The food come out, there was no check back to see if it was OK. Nothing. We were contemplating having a dessert as the food was good, but they never bother to come and collect the dirty dishes even though we pushed them to the side of the table to hint. One waitress clearly saw this but just ignored it, so we got up and left. Not a happy bunny especially as there were flys buzzing around our table when we were eating.

Third and last time we will eat here. The previous times were fantastic, however, I think there must have been a change in management in the 18 months since our last visit. The food took an age to come out and can only be described as a complete disappointment. I ordered Cajun Chicken and for £12 got a small chicken breast, five new potatoes and a very small portion of coleslaw. The other meals were not any better either. The menu isn't very expansive and the food is ordinary at best. I was really tempted to pay the nearest MacDonalds a visit on the way home, the portions would have been better, the food tastier and hotter too. This place is very over priced and the food is at best bland. £6 for three scoops of ice cream, £3.50 for an Americano. This was described as an espresso shot with hot water. The espresso was £3, making a cup of hot water a staggering 50p, why???The service is slow and below par, so much so, we had to ask for spoons for deserts. It's a shame, this place isn't a shadow of its former self.

King prawns and scallops in a coloured tasteless watery something or other, just 2 small scallops and king prawns that tasted odd, followed by an upset tummy for the next 24 hours! When asked had I enjoyed the meal, more than half of which I hadn't eaten, my response was met with a shrug of the shoulders and a hasty retreat. The only good thing about our experience was the very friendly barman, with whom I settled my bill.

They had an 'accident' with my meal so had to prepare another. When it came it wasn't at all as described on the menu. By that time everyone else had finished eating; except for my son, who'd sent his meal back because it was cold. I'd give it a zero rating given the option. This used to be a lovely place to eat. I was to meet members of my family who were staying near Worksop and we chose the Normanton largely on the basis of nostalgia as our family has used it, sporadically, for years. The dining room has a good village hall atmosphere, it echoes and is noisy and of barn like dimensions. the tables were somewhat tatty and the food disappointing. One of my party was reduced to having two starters rather than a main course. I had sausage and mash as the belly pork and black pudding did not attract and one of our party who had it wqas served up with tow geometric slabs one on top of the other. Usual gastro pub prices applied however. Most disappointing.

Popped in here for an early dinner with our 2 granddaughters after an afternoon in Clumber Park.I would say its ok, but would not go back. Odd menu, quite a mixed range of meals, not inspiring at all, probably trying too hard. Our little girls chose pasta from the children's menu, oddly when it arrived, they had different types of pasta, not a major problem but seemed unusual. We had 1 course each, 2 children's meals, bottle of sparkling water and 2 small cokes, cost £49. Quite expensive for what we had and the quality. Lots of flies and the waitress was lighting tea lights with bits of paper, this gave off a nasty burning smell, not nice. All in all ordinary.

Went on the may day bank holiday and expected it to be full, so had booked a week beforehand. I'm surprised they didn't laugh down the phone as when we arrived there was about three tables that were in use. It was dead. Most of the food that came to the table was rubbish. A couple of things were actually burnt. Overcooked tough food.I was expecting fairly simple pub food; but what we got was obviously bought in and/or reheated, if not it was deepfried. Kids chicken goujons came to the table basically black. A beef burger came to the table black. A change came when the chips with the fish and chips were ridiculously underdone and powdery. There was nobody in this place, there was no rush, how can you not get this food right? You have to go out of your way to get here, so my advice would be to not bother.

We live in Retford, which is 3 or 4 miles away from the Clumber Park Hotel. There are basically no decent restaurants within Retford town centre apart from the three Indian places. This 'Inn' is one of what appears to be two restaurants within the Clumber Park Hotel. We went on a Tuesday night. in early November. There was a wedding reception going on in one area; the more formal looking restaurant seemed to abandoned. We found 'The Normanton Inn' by following the signs through the hotel, along unhoovered carpets and past loos smelling of perfume and powder. I had been here once before so I knew the bar existed; for someone who has not been there, it may have been a little bit of a confusing trek. We arrived at about 7:20pm and the bar was fairly busy with about a dozen people; there were also about 10 people seated at tables. The room itself is interestingly decorated with deep colours. Overall it is a little too brightly lit (they have added a glaring little standing multi headed light, one of the bulbs of which is out; this thing is glaring and awkward). It could be more hip and romantic, even, if they dimmed the lights by 20%.We waited for a little while at the bar but no-one acknowledged our existence, as is the case with so many places when you first arrive. We grabbed who appeared to be the only waiter, and asked if we could take a table. We were given menus and we ordered drinks that arrived promptly. The menu is fairly large and varied and actually does have some interesting items. It is separated into Sandwiches, Sharing Platters, Appetizers, Leaves, Grill, Stove, Sides, Pastry, and Ice Cream. There are interesting apps like Confit Garlic, Chive and Mascarpone Risotto; and Beef, Oxtail and Horseradish Potato Cake. The interesting mains for me are Wild Boar Steak; Ostrich Burger; Duck Leg. They are all presented with well thought out accompaniments. It was refreshing to see chilli and other ingredients to help pump the flavours of our well loved, if bland, national cuisine. For a starter I had the potted crayfish with basil, lemon and chilli butter. My partner had crayfish, peppers and beansprout salad with a spicy peanut dressing. The potted crayfish turned out to be 'crayfish in a ramekin swimming in garlic butter with some basil leaves' and some garlic melba toast. It was not 'potted' as you would have expected. It was badly described, but was good. The salad was excellent. We ordered another drink. The drinks were made and then they sat behind the bar waiting for the waiter to bring them. We eventually got up and asked for them ourselves. For the main, I had the boar steak....whoops, no, they're out of that. I almost went for the ostrich burger but burgers can be so full of non-meat 'thingies' that I decided on the beef chilli pie with shallots and beans. My partner had the tagliatelle with blue swimmer crab, chilli and garden herbs. They proudly buy the pies in from the Topping Pie Co. in Doncaster. The main course took a little too long to arrive, but maybe we can put that down to the fact they had a wedding; we'll give the kitchen a break on that. Many people confuse the waiter's ability with the kitchen's ability. The pie was really good; the pastry base was a little underdone but all in all I enjoyed it. The beans were very good; tossed with garlic butter, I believe. The shallots were...not there. My partner really liked his tagliatelle. It didn't look like a huge amount but he said it was very filling and he wouldn't have wanted any more. The waiter brought over some ketchup, etc., which were in little foil packets; a big faux-pas for a kitchen that is trying quite hard.We decided on Thaymar ice cream for dessert; again, a bought-in product, but the great quality of this local ice cream was undeniable. We shared 5 scoops for £8, served in a brandy snap bowl. It took them 15 minutes not to bring it out; we had to ask the waiter where it was. It appeared immediately - he basically just went into the kitchen and brought it out. The entire meal took over 2 hours. There were three wait staff in the bar/restaurant; and a manager. It appeared that one girl was training another one. For all the wait staff, their awareness of the customers around them was basically non-existent. The wait person we had...English was not his first language so that was a bit of a struggle from time to time. He didn't know what sparkling mineral water was. When he realized what it was and asked for it at the bar, he found out that they didn't have any. We then asked for soda water and he didn't know what that was either. He was very pleasant and polite, but clearly needed more training. He was concentrating hard just to understand what people were asking for. Overall, the wait staff think they're doing a good job, but they're inattentive and unaware. This is the management's incapability to train their staff properly. The kitchen: The menu has been carefully constructed and contains quite a few easy-to-do and bought-in items, but it works, and works quite well. I wouldn't want to be in there in the height of summer, or at the weekend, or around Christmas, or on one of those massively overrated dinner and show horrors where the food is pretty dire. I would recommend going on a quiet night, off season, and you will probably have a well paced, properly cooked, enjoyable meal, if you can dodge the lack of staff training. Don't sit there expecting them to notice that you need another drink, or you need to order; be prepared with a bit of confidence to do a bit of the staff's job for them.Would we go back? Yes, but not on a busy night.
