Such an iconic pub which has retained its character by leaving the decor in situ. Good service and a friendly atmosphere.

A corner on the bottom of Greek St with some character to the inside and outside but the Coach and Horses attracts huge crowds especially outside when it warm and dry. Managed to elbow a route to the nearest bar where service was swift and friendly. There was steady trade in bar food with hearty portions but I was eating elsewhere later. A lot to watch but would rather have been drinking with mates. Wouldn’t baulk at returning in numbers

I was served by a guy with long curly hair as much as his serving was good, I felt very uncomfortable how he behaved with his colleagues. This was not something I thought my girlfriend would notice but became the conversation later on as we left the bar. As professionals ourselves we are very much against unwanted or inappropriate behavior among working people especially in the hospitality industry. This just gives a bad name to an establishment that has a good reputation based on one individual just not respecting the any customer.

The beer selection is nice. Seven pound that's super expensive for horrible, rude, unbearable service. They don't have enough chairs outside so I was drinking with other 30 people outside standing although I am handicapped. I saw one of the bartender employees throwing the garbage outside so I asked her nicely if she can please take the empty glass from me. The answer was "No you do it". It's unfortunately how you hire people that ruins your business, it was a red hair girl with glasses, btw I left the glass for her on of the tables, just like everybody else if doing so one of the other employees will pick it up for you hon. I will never come back to that place and I'm making sure none of my guests will visit there I rather pay a taxi to get better suitable service in different area.

The Coach and Horses continues to be a proper old school charmer in Soho. No TV, no piped music, no slot machines - perfect. Nice selection of beers and a nice chatty clientele. Staff are very pleasant and attentive and lets face it; any watering hole that has frequented by Jeffery Bernard,Danny Kerwin and some bunch of hopefuls from up North called the Beatles can't be all bad. It had been a long time since our most recent visit to this pub when we visited on Monday this week. What struck us straight away was the warm welcome we received from Jamie, the bar lady. She was also very helpful explaining the wine list. My partner had a pint of real ale, Hophead in fact which he said was in tip-top condition. We shall definitely revisit when the current restrictions are lifted.

Although this pub is small it has a lovely warm friendly intimacy atmosphere. We were lucky enough to get a table but were there Before 6 pm. The pub manager was a friendly lady lovely to see and so helpful about the beers she stocks. She offered samples to help us make our selection which was very welcome. So much history in this marvellous Soho pub. It has been nicknamed 'Norman's' after its famous former landlord Norman Balon who always played up to his reputation for rudeness (telling an unknown number of customers "you're barred!"). In late seventies you could buy matchboxes that boasted "London's rudest landlord". I could go on about the history, but suffice to say that the Coach & Horses is maintaining all that is good about this traditional Soho pub.

Up in London for a birthday weekend. Stayed at the Rosewood and had eaten in Gauthier the night before. This place was full to the rafters when we walked past Sat night so was a bit worried that we might not get in on the Sunday when we planned to come here. Had met son in London to take out for a bit to eat. Came in and managed to grab a table. Bar staff was pleasant and took our order, only had to wait for about 20 mins for food. Son had the bean burger and wife had the tofish N' chips I had ordered the leek and mushroom pie but got a leek tart and salad instead, didn't want to make a fuss so had this instead. We all enjoyed our food, would have liked to try the pie but never mind. Based on the tofish and my wifes reaction to it would have to come back to try it. Great atmosphere in here and a good old fashioned pub. Seeing reviews there is an upstairs part! never knew this and could not see how you get up there. Will seek out next time when in London. Reckon this Soho landmark has calmed down since the days of the legendary Norman Balon, self-styled as the rudest landlord in London, when the regulars included the staff of Private Eye, Jeffrey Barnard, John Hurt and Tom Baker, many of whom are immortalised in cartoons round the walls. It now markets itself as London's only vegetarian and vegan pub. The ground floor bar is pretty basic, definitely a place for serious drinkers. It's like a throwback to the 1970s or even earlier, with signs behind the bar for Double Diamond and Ind Coope. Upstairs are the Secret Tea Rooms, which are a complete contrast to the bar downstairs. Vegans and vegetarians rave about the food. A real Soho curiosity!

We found this vegan-only food pub through the Happy Cow app. Both the tofu “fish” and chips and the burger were superb. Ok, tofu is tofu but the batter and seaweed coating made the dish look like the real thing and their cat wanted some. .. the guy on the bar reckoned it was the seaweed that she smelt :) The chips and sides were great too. The food was served in the pub , as the upstairs room was reserved, the atmosphere in the pub was really nice and friendly and the ciders that we tried were all enjoyable. One point to clarify .... the food is served until 10pm even though the pub is open for longer. The opening hours on all the various internet sites are confusing.

I should say that I'm not sure exactly where we were... we planned on being in the Picadilly Circus-Trafalgar Square area, namely because that's just what you do when you're a first time tourist in London. But, it was very cold and very late, we had landed just hours before and were wandering the crowded Friday night streets riding the adrenaline high and not much else. I knew we'd have to eat at some point so I pulled out my trusty Happy Cow app hoping that we were in proximity to one of the places I had scoped out in advance. To my delight, Coach & Horses was a five-minute walk from where we had wandered to! Tofush and Chips seemed so very appropriate for our first dinner in London, so off we went!

Given that this was an exclusively vegan and vegetarian pub, I expected more from this place. It IS vegetarian food-wise, with limited vegan options. There was only one vegan cake available, and the afternoon tea on offer (at £23) had no sign of a vegan options (there are mainstream hotel afternoon tea places in London which are both cheaper and offer excellent vegan options right down to soya clotted cream). The tofu fish and chips could have been better thought out; while the batter was fluffy and the layer of seaweed gave the outsides a fishy taste, the tofu slab was far too thick, so the middle was just raw tofu. Also I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but all the pies on the menu were the same flavour of the supermarket brand Clive's and even similarly advertised as gluten-free. I also felt the service was too slow for the size of the room: number of staff around.

We booked to come in between the Harry Potter play break. We were directed upstairs into a tea room which was a bit odd but we figured it was beginning to finish afternoon tea (it was 5pm) and dinner was starting. We were given menus and it turned out they were for tea and we were all confused. After eventually getting the attention of the three servers they swapped our menus and cutlery. It was quite cramped and very afternoon tea, 50s feel but still nice. We choose to get one to-fish, and three pies (sweet potato and mushroom, leek and mushroom, and cheese and tomato). No drinks menu which was strange and server asked us for food and drinks at the same time. Soft drink came quickly but was 10 minutes for 3 glasses of tap water. The pies were amazing and good value with a large dollop of mash and some gravy. Was missing some sort of veg on the side though, plate was very beige. We weren't so keen on the tofish as it was very thick tofu but that was likely personal preference as we'd never had it before.

Booking the previous day and leaving a contact number, I spoke with a young lady who was bubbling with character and sounded lovely. I was looking forward to taking a friend who is vegetarian to this pub restaurant, after all I had seen the reviews and it sounded and looked perfect. I called again at the exit of Leicester Square Tube station as we were cutting it a bit fine for time and I didn't want to lose the table. A polite lady helped us with directions and we were soon on Greek Street. We entered the pub and, well you know when something doesn't feel right?... We waited at the bar for the gentleman serving to finish a complicated order for a Pineapple Juice and lemonade, he turned and asked if he could help, we said we had a table booked for lunch and he replied "You want tea in the tea room?" "No we replied, we have booked for lunch." bear in mind I had booked the previous day, and called some ten minutes previous to our arrival, this was the first time we were informed they were not serving food until 5pm. He then went on to say: "I Have nothing to say to you." That information was delivered with a shrug of the shoulders and bordering on rude and of course there was no apology, This place had my phone number, no-one had bothered to call to let me know of the dilemma. I was so embarrassed, I apologised to my friend over and over, Her choices are sometimes hard to find, but here we had the prospect of totally vegetarian food, completely free of utensil's contaminated by meat products, but no, not here, no such luck. Words fail me, never before have I experienced anything like it in a food establishment and I hope I never do again.

Quite a cute, well located pub. However, the vegan tofush and chips was just fine. The chips were standard pub chips. The tofush was not very firm tofu, lazily wrapped in seaweed and then battered. It fell apart and had very little flavour. It really shouldn't be so hard to improve that texture.

I spotted this pub last time I was in London, but didn't go in because my friends weren't into vegetarian. This time I was determined to go and I didn't regret it. The people were very kind (though it took a while to get their attention to order). The pie with sweet potato and cheddar, and fresh potato mash with vegetable gravy was simply delicious and more than enough. The building was a bit tatty, but the general charm made up for that. Without doubt the worst meal I have ever had; terribly slow service from the start, food was served to each person so far apart so that one would finish before another got theirs and they completely forgot about 3 people's meals. By then they had run out of everything bar one dish so they didn't have a choice. Now to the food; it looked, smelt and tasted like dog food. No actual chef work goes on, just frying or reheating processed rubbish. The biggest shame is that it claims to be vegan and veggie friendly as, without any veg or goodness to be seen, it does them no favours. The best bit was getting a full refund and escaping.

Proper old school Soho boozer. Nice range of beers and surprise, surprise vegetarian and vegan food only! What a treat to have the full range of the menu to select from. Vegetarians out there should take all of their meat-eating friends to this pub without delay. Can eat in the bar or the restaurant upstairs. Very friendly and welcoming - highly recommended.

I don't get into Central London as often as I used to but when ever I do I always take friends and (on this occasion) family with me to this old fashioned but great little gem of a place. Baz & Dave were twinkling the ivories this particular Wednesday eve and encouraging punters to sing along to tunes of old and you can't help but leave this place with a smile from ear to ear. Head here at least once if you haven't. It's a diamond in the rough.

Cadre sympa. (Pub)

Quirky, small & English heritage tea shop located above the pub. You have to walk through the counter area to get there though lol . Good selection of teas with great historical stories. Tables are a bit wonky & staff although kind got our order incorrect, so just make sure the staff are aware. Quite nice vibe and they serve mini cakes as well on the Sunday, although some guests are a bit intrusive withheld conversations, a gentleman seated to the rear side of me seemingly was having a conversation that occasionally spilled over in the direction of my guest, I do not know what that was about. Generally, a mature clientele, families, friends & couples. Worth a short visit.

Dropped in for a pint at the legendary "Norman's Coach and Horses" in Soho late afternoon. Great old London boozer with loads of atmosphere and wonderful characters (fully vegetarian also!). Saw these two geezers on the old joanna having a proper cockney pub sing-a-long!

Both my friend and I were excited to try the 'Tofush and Chips' here. As recommended in the reviews the Secret Tea Room was the better place to eat than the pub downstairs. The tea room had a lovely off the wall feel to it and the food was very good. The service was quite quick and the staff were friendly. The Tofush was nice and crispy and served with chips and peas with vegan mayo and a spicy ketchup. After our meal we enquired about desert and there were about three vegan cakes available. We would have stayed longer to try them but were politely informed when we arrived that the table would be needed in the space of an hour. It's perhaps best to book a table ahead of time. The price was reasonable especially in a swanky and expensive part of town with over priced and pretentious meals. The option to have vegan tea and cake or Tofush and chips instead is amazing. The next time I'm in town I would definitely like to try the chocolate cake as it looked delicious.

Excellent stop on my stag trip. Fellah playing the piano promoted a proper pub sing song and a hokey kokey! Great atmosphere and very friendly place! Brilliant place to enjoy a song song. Loved it!

We had a great sing song around the Piano at The Coach & Horses last night. It is a pity that the pub is so small it was difficult to get drinks, I think there is room for improvement if the layout was changed.Usually a good selection of Beers on offer.

like coming here for the historical aspects. But it is not called Norman's, it's just the Coach & Horses. Last visit in May 2017 also found it to be on wino route - expect to be badgered by beggars if sitting outside.

Äkta pubkänsla. Vi åt fantastisk god fish and chips. Alla nöjda med sin öl från den långa listan. Trångt men mysigt vid små bord.

I first had the tofush and chips in this place a few years ago. I went again last week excited to return and it was very disappointing. Firstly, we were told we had to sit in the restaurant upstairs instead of in the main pub. The restaurant is a strange place set up for afternoon teas it seems, with not much atmosphere. The food itself was pretty dire - the chips were badly cooked and didn't taste like proper fried chips that you'd expect from a pub. And the 'tofush' was nowhere near as tasty as last time. On top of this, after asking for ketchup and mayonnaise we were given a strange sort of tomato relish and what tasted more like sour cream. It was also way overpriced for the quality of the food and a service charge was imposed. I won't be returning.

We came upon the name of this pub in an article in The Times called Britain's Top 20 Coolest Pubs. In London for a day with friends we decided to give it a try. What a great decision. Purely by chance we visited on a Saturday when "Magic Betty" was playing the piano. She enjoys a cult following and the place was really lively with loads of singers. The pub itself is a favourite for journos and authors and has a strong link with the play Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell. The pub itself is a basic boozer but the ambience is marvellous. The cask ales are excellent. My Seafarers Bitter was very tasty. That said you are there for the ambience not the drink. Give it a go and I hope you are lucky and MB s performing. Hint: Magic Betty has her own Facebook page so check out her performance plans.

We've visited this place a few times now over the years and every time is an absolute pleasure. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the beer is good and reasonably priced, especially considering the location. However, the highlight for my wife and I is the entertainment. Mister Meredith plays at the piano and sings favourites from all decades including the London classics of yesteryear, while he is joined by a handful of local performers and usually the rest of the pub.The atmosphere is amazing and it's just a shame it has to end when time is called. This pub is on our visit list whenever we have a weekend in London. Don't miss it if you like a good time and warm atmosphere.

Ok for a quick pint whilst waiting to meet up with someone but there are much better places in the vicinity if you were looking for a destination.

The vegan tofush and chips with tartar sauce was fantastic - great portion sizes too. However, the waitress ignored us for the first five minutes. Then when my food was delivered, we were told my partners food would be another ten minutes because she had put the order in wrong. Shouldn't she have told us sooner?! I had to keep asking where it was - she didn't apologise any further. The burger was average when it arrived. I asked for tomato sauce, which tasted like Dorito dip. I asked her again for tomato sauce, not salsa, she said they didn't have any. Such a shame, the place is so quirky and shabby (but in a fun way), and the food was great, but the service was abysmal.

I used to work in theatre in London, and in 1999 I worked on a production of the Keith Waterhouse play Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell, which was presented at the Old Vic Theatre, starring Peter O'Toole, and then I worked on a further production of the play in 2006 at the Garrick Theatre with Tom Conti in the title role. I happened to be friends with Norman Balon who owned The Coach & Horses in Soho's Greek Street, where the play is set. He was delighted in his usual gruff and rude way that I decided to announce and launch both productions with hugely successful press receptions in his pub. Norman was already a legend, but the coverage from these receptions and the ensuing first night parties only increased his fame. When I had to meet Michael Gambon for a chat, he immediately suggested The Coach & Horses as the venue. I went there again recently to meet friends on a Friday lunchtime. The pub was empty. The house white is £17.50 a bottle. The lavatories are difficult to negotiate (I guess they always were, but I now notice more). Altogether, I felt a big come-down. What a pity.

This was my second visit, 2 years after the previous one.The place looks the same - a run down pub with lots of character. It's a blast from the past, vintage decor and furniture which have known better days. I visited around 5 pm on a weekday, the pub was full with groups of all ages having a drink. I ordered the Tofish & Chips, and the bartender suggested I have it upstairs in the tea room. The tea room is a quaint room, looks like a grandma's living room. Personally, I find it charming. Most people there were having an afternoon tea. I had to wait some time for my food, but it finally arrived. Less tasty than I remembered, but still tasty. There was an assortment of cakes on display, so I inquired regarding vegan options for dessert. The woman behind the counter didn't know if they had any. I would expect the staff at a vegetarian-vegan place to be able to answer that question immediately. Finally, she remembered that one cake was vegan, but it didn't seem tasty, so I passed. The meal plus a service charge cost 13.44 pounds.FYI: There's a bathroom upstairs in much better condition that the one downstairs.

Visited on Saturday for the second time .The restaurant looks spectacular and classy from the outside but the classiness soon disappears when you enter. The lady host had a bad attitude and didn’t look at us and just threw the menus on the table expecting us to follow and sit down. We would have left there and then if my wife hadn’t have been tired and wanted to eat. None of the staff seemed particularly happy and I would have expected more from a place charging £15 for a glass of wine and expensive food. Our first visit wasn’t much better but we tried again but won’t be visiting again. John Fairfield
