After an extensive search for the best Malaysian cuisine in England, I’ve finally found it at Normah’s. As someone who believes Malaysian food is the pinnacle of culinary excellence, this discovery was nothing short of a revelation. The Beef Rendang was a masterpiece—tender, richly spiced, and perfectly complemented by a crispy, flaky roti. The Curry Laksa was equally sensational, bursting with flavor and delivering that authentic taste I've been longing for. Overall, we were left speechless by the experience and will undoubtedly return. Normah’s has set a new standard for Malaysian food outside of Malaysia.

I am amazed by how good this was. A small restaurant that gives homely vibes and the food was 10/10. This was my first time having Malaysian food and honestly, I couldn’t point anything wrong. Be mindful that you need to book way in advance to have a table. There were only around 6/7 tables in there. Normah is the only person in the kitchen and then there was another person serving. Very very small but homely. Do remember: CASH ONLY. Must try: HOMEMADE MINT LEMONADE.

Such a lovely lady and amazing cook! Had a yummy Malaysian dinner last night at Queensway Market at Normah’s which is tucked inside this building on the ground floor. We had beef rendang, roti with daal, nasi lemak crispy fried chicken and my favourite, asam pedas whole fish 😋 sides we had crispy chicken wings and deep fried mushroom plus the fresh mint and lemonade drinks while I had teh tarik ☕️ Overall I’d really recommend to visit them but best book as it was closed to walk in by 7pm last night! Lucky we had made reservation! There only opened from 5-7pm and closed two days on Sunday and Monday.

Normah's is my favourite restaurant on earth. I have the Roti Beef Rendang every time, but the Laksa, Asam Pedas Sea Bass, Nasi Goreng, Fried Chicken, and everything else I've tried here are all mind blowing - perfection.

Delightful cooking full of heart and soul. There is so much to celebrate at Normah’s, the service was excellent, efficient and friendly and the cooking is full of flavour and textures. The beef rendangs sweetness was perfectly offset with powerful lime leaf flavour and sourness of tamarind and the crispy chicken was truly crispy in a way it often isn’t. The dhall with roti was also absolutely lovely, the best roti I can remember eating. There is nothing pretentious at Normah’s just really good cooking.

Hole in the wall, family run restaurant with absolutely delicious and authentic Malaysian food (verified by our Malaysian friends :)). Everything is made to perfection and best to get there earlier to ensure you get your preferred dish. Portion size is also perfect. Can't wait to be back for another meal!

Discovered Normahs, a Malaysian hole in the wall eatery at Queensway Market which is basically like a ghetto with lots of fascinating shops and restaurants in a fancy area. Peering in the eatery, I saw promising bowls of curry laksa so went there a week later. The menu was the usual with nasi lemak, curries etc but I felt the star of the show was curry laksa so obviously had that. The curry Laksa did not disappoint as the soup was thick so the soft egg noodles hung the broth nicely. It was really moreish because the curry laksa soup was refreshing with a gentle spicy kick that was balanced well by the tamarind. The taste of this curry laksa was similar to butter chicken curry with a hint of tomato. Will definitely return more frequently if it wasn't for the location. There are so many different Laksa variations so you just have to find the one that is to your liking.

Rendang tasted fine but only had 2 bitesized pieces of meat in it. Roti was very greasy/oily. Crispy chicken had good textured batter but not much taste. I was expecting so much more. PS - staff were very friendly.

We visited for an early Saturday dinner. Booking ahead was essential, we saw numerous walk-ins being turned away. Booking via their website a week in advance was sufficient. It’s a tiny place accommodating just 20 covers or so. Note that alcohol is not served and I don’t think bringing your own is permitted either. Our family of 2 adults and 2 young kids ordered the prawn nasi goreng, fried chicken nasi lemak, prawn laksa, rotis with dhal, and fried chicken wings. We absolutely loved the rotis. So flaky, so buttery, I think I preferred these to the ones from Roti King. A second order of rotis was devoured easily! The fried chicken was also very enjoyable, however the laksa and nasi lemak were decent but didn’t really wow us. They had a nice home cooked feel, but I expected bolder, punchier flavours. In terms of service, there was only one person front of house, who seemed to also be helping in the kitchen, hence was not there half the time. This was just about manageable given there were only 5 tables, but things were generally slow moving and there was often no one around if we wanted to order top ups or make other requests. The bill for the 4 of us came to £54, making this the cheapest restaurant meal I can remember having in a very long time! Overall, the food was good, but we expected better given the hype surrounding this place. The lack of staff is justifiable given the low prices, so no complaints there. We are happy we tried it out but would hesitate to return a second time, although I could perhaps see myself coming back for for another roti (or three)…

The food at Normah certainly has a warm, home-made feel to it. The restaurant is more like a cafe, situated in a strange shopping mall in Bayswater, which itself is reminiscent of some of Southeast Asia's less glitzy malls. But make no mistake, while the setting is certainly casual, it's a very busy place and bookings are a must. As we sat there, walk-in's had no luck in snagging a table as the small eaterie was completely full. Naturally, I'm going to compare it to Roti King. Well first of all, at least you don't have the headache of having to queue, as you do at Roti King Euston. There are also dishes that Roti King don't do, such as the wonderful Asam Pedas. Another big plus for me was that the teh tarik was authentic, whereas in Roti King it's just awful. Normah's beef rendang was also a touch tastier and more tender than Roti King's though I would have preferred a little less of the coconut taste. I would so so love if they had Penang laksa on the menu. And what about rojak?

We visited Normah’s a couple of weeks ago and didn’t get around to reviewing it, but this place really deserves all the hype! After hearing so many great things about the food and reading Normah’s story on her website, we felt we just had to try this during our visit to London—and oh my goodness, what a wonderful experience it was indeed! This is one of the best meals I’ve had the pleasure of eating and you can really tell by the caring and warm energy of the place that a lot of heart was put into the cooking. The roti is the best roti I’ve ever had in my life! Our waiter was incredibly friendly. I luckily got the chance to thank Normah for her cooking too and she really is such a kind soul, radiating with warmth. This restaurant is very very special. I urge everyone to visit both for the outstanding food and the welcoming service. Next time we’re in London, we’ll definitely be coming here again!

The restaurant is a little hard to find. We asked one of the shop owners when we entered Queensway Market where the restaurant is, and just at that moment, Normah, the owner, walked by and we followed her in. She's friendly and we had a nice chat with her. We ordered nasi lemak crispy chicken, Mee goreng and sambal seabass. Although I've had better nasi lemak, both the mee goreng and the seabass were good. Overall, a nice little place for home-cooked Malaysian food.

I came here to try the food after watching a YouTube video of them. The place is located in a corner of queensway Market. When I arrived there was no table available so had to wait 15 mins for a table to be available. I ordered the nasi lemak with fried chicken which was tasty , the sambal has a hint of assam. The roti with dhall was good too. Only issue is the lack of ventilation cause the food smell to stick to my clothing so I came out smelling a lot like the food I ate.

We really loved our visit to Lahpet on a sunny Sunday lunchtime, seated outside on the terrace. It felt a bit like being on holiday. Service from our young waitress was really sweet and attentive. The crispy fried bream dish is a taste sensation and is really popular judging by the number of plates going past. The aubergine with crispy onion and peanuts is also a winner. We will definitely return as we discovered we really enjoy the flavour profile of Burmese food.
