Really enjoyed our lunch at nook. Love that the menu is all small plates so you can try lots of different dishes. All the dishes we had were lovely and we felt the price was very reasonable considering how full we were afterwards. The white wine I had was one of the best I've had and the service was top notch. The restaurant is also dog friendly which was a super plus for us.

The food is always incredible, and, even on a quiet evening, the atmosphere is welcoming and cosy in no small part because of the lovely staff. The "small" plates are extremely generous - not little tapas-type bowls and reasonably priced for such high quality and imaginative dishes. My favourite restaurant by far.

Mixed feedback from me and the mrs. Great service, good wine and some very tasty dishes. However, there was a lack of plain sides to balance out the super-flavoured ones on the menu; by the end we felt like we'd overdosed on sauces and oil in all the dishes apart from the bao buns (which were very good). It was a cold night and we could feel it in the room so I wasn't comfortable throughout the meal. My feedback is please control the room temperature and don't assume to put ice in the drinks! The menu is pot luck by the look of it and I think we hit a relatively bad one for our first visit.

We had a wonderful night here as a romantic meal with my partner. The service was lovely and we felt "Nook" was the perfect name for the place. They even gave me the first oyster that I've ever really enjoyed! It was delicious and a wonderful night. We really like that the menu is never the same and it constantly cycles so it always means you can go back for something new.

The food was fantastic. Some really creative and unusual dishes that you talk about for weeks afterwards. The service was excellent and the kitchen coped amazingly well with one of our party's gluten intolerance. The wine list was interesting and the orange wine a revelation. However the restaurant was absolutely freezing. I was the only one who risked taking their coat off and those on other tables who had dared it wrapped their coats around their legs to keep away the chill. It was uncomfortably cold. We would definitely go back - but not in the winter.

Such a disappointing evening at Nook. Having eaten there on a number of occasions, and had a brilliant experience, this evening meal in September was very poor. With only two options on the menu - oysters & fried chicken, as a vegetarian I was offered left overs from the brunch menu. There was not even a dessert option to make up for the lack of variety. I contacted Nook directly to express my disappointment but had no reply. Bad form. Disappointing.

I don’t know what’s going on, but what a terrible experience. I’ve been going to Nook for years and have always adored their food (one of my favorite restaurants). Usually, the food is interesting and innovative and a delight. I was so excited to take my friend here, but what we got was deep friend chicken and French fries- regular pub grub. Staff knew nothing about the wine. NOOK!! What on earth are you doing?!!? I couldn’t have been more disappointed.

Nook by the river pop up. Great location. Nice atmosphere in the tent and friendly staff. I found the food underwhelming. Ordered two small plates- one was delicious and the other tasted too much of bbq for me but my wife loved it. The pork main was also not to our taste at all. My wife loved the rice pudding dessert but again I didn’t like cold rice pudding. So all in all a mixed bag but a nice experience. The menu was clearly labelled and options for gluten free diners :)

Lovely location at Llandaf by the river, good set up with attentive waiters but the food was disappointing and over-priced. I appreciate that this is a pop-up with a small kitchen but the menu wasn’t very interesting. The smaller dishes were nice but one of the larger dishes, the chicken milanese, was extremely average and the chips were very oily. The rice pudding was served cold from the fridge which made it difficult to mix with the apple compote. Food was very underwhelming unfortunately, disappointing as the pop-up venue is great.

Went here recently and it wasn't worth the money. Overpriced, one of the staff was sat in the dining area with a laptop working which was a bit off-putting. The food was tasty in fairness but this isn't the type of restaurant that should be in the middle of Canton, it's giving off middle of Chelsea pretentious vibes. Very underwhelming. Middle of Canton should be nice wholesome meals, not overpriced little dishes.

Fantastic venue, located opposite beautiful park too so it's lovely to walk through on your way or afterwards. Menu was limited but this meant that you knew every dish was well thought out and fresh. We had a starter, 4 mains and a dessert to share as a couple. They came out at different times, which was pre explained. Each dish was delicious and beyond expectations and were able to be enjoyed individually,so the fact each one came out separately helped with this. The waitress was very attentive and able to discuss the menu with us and provide advice without being over baring. The resturant itself has a lovely ambiance and every detail was well thought out from the wall art, flowers on the table to the stunningly smelling soap and hand cream in the toilet. I would 100% recommend for a special occasion to treat yourself to the excellent quality food.

Four of us had lunch here yesterday. Never been before, but will definitely go again. Small plates for sharing, and interesting menu. A great mix of dishes that we knew that were perfect, like the hake, or hasselback potato, and some novel dishes that were even better than we expected, such as the deep fried pasta, or the beetroot. Dishes came to us in pairs that complemented each other. Excellent service. Organic wine matched perfectly.

The menu did not link together but was a random selection of luke warm small plates which were just that, all small and over priced, hard to find something that was enjoyable also due to the contrasting mix of flavours. I would say the hassleback potatoes were the better item on the menu if we had to choose. We paid with a gift voucher ( a birthday gift) but our bill did not come to the full value so the waitress just took it with no offer of return the difference in any form. Massively poor show! Very underwhelming vegan/vegetarian options, they were all edible and alright but the last dish- tenderstem broccoli on a bed of red lettuce leaves is not what I was expecting when paying 6.50 for a dish at a highly regarded foodie establishment. Very basic recipes under the guise of being complicated, cultured masterpieces. However, my dad thoroughly enjoyed his dishes and wine was wonderful and service was decent. Hassleback potatoes -6/10 Roasted pumpkin -6/10 Tenderstem broccoli -1/10 It's clear that the target audience is centered more around meat eaters however it's a shame after seeing enticing veggie options online and being excited to try Nook for so long that I ended up paying out my arse for food with a cost price of about £2-3 and then not being asked if we enjoyed our food when clearly my entire plate was left bordering full.

Nook is officially my favorite restaurant in Cardiff now. The food is unreal here. You can taste so many flavors in the food. The pumpkin, the hassleback potatoes or the carrots were of my favorite dishes. Just thinking about them makes my mouth watering. The organic wine they sell was amazing too, I had one by the glass that I think it could be now my favorite wine. As dessert we had a panacotta that blew my mind and I ended up eating by myself. Having enjoyed Nook restaurant last year I was excited to try Nook by the river, their pop up summer restaurant at Llandaff rowing club. Sadly it was a big let down. The menu was limited given it’s a pop up but also not that exciting, however it caters well for non meat eaters. Prices were unreasonably high per dish, the portions were tiny and nothing wowed. No side plates or napkins were provided, essential for sharing, which I presume is the concept . Tap water was not possible because of the set up so an overpriced bottle is the only option but the wine was lovely. Toilets are at the rowing club and were disgusting. The two waiters were very good and friendly but some of the young female staff were surly and seemed disconnected The whole experience failed to deliver and the food was mediocre and extremely overpriced.

I love the way this place runs. Small, rustic & intimate. And that carries into the food, 10 "small plate" style dishes on the menu a few deserts and a few starter-like dishes. I went with two friends and we ordered pretty much one of everything on the menu, with the exception of 1 dessert if I remember correctly. A couple of the standouts on my visit: The home made bread! A good crust, a light char flavour and super soft and airy on the inside. Really quite nice. Jerusalem Artichoke! With a pungent lemon pesto and artichoke crisps. I think what stood out the most in this dish was the lemon pesto, not at all what you are expecting but a very welcome addition to a simple plate of primarily earthy flavours. A must try in my opinion. The Stuffed Cabbage! Shredded savoy cabbage, caramelised onions, a shed tone of butter and flavour. Wrapped in the outer leaves of the savoy and served with an uber rich red wine sauce and crispy onions. Jansens Temptation! What I can only describe as an amped up dauphinoise, layered potato and white fish, cooked in cream and garlic and finished under the grill with lashings of butter for a much appreciated crisp texture alongside the softer layers. between the 3 of us we hade around 15 dishes across the entire menu and a few glasses of wine and our bill came to around £145 which for me, is a great price to pay for what is essentially a laid back tasting menu full of the hearty winter soul food you crave at this time of year. A great place for couples or a few friends who appreciate good food. Overall a exemplary experience and I'll definitely be back for more.
