We visited over this weekend having managed to secure a booking and had a wonderful time. Having attended their previous pop up in Kings Heath and a couple of the No Rules evening we were intrigued to know where a full time home would take them. The restaurant offers a tasting menu over the weekend at £50 per head, there was the option of a wine pairing or a soft drink pairing but we decided to work our own way through the wine list. The wine list is interesting with all wines priced the same and labelled with descriptors, apparently this is to encourage customers to pick based on taste. The staff were excellent for offering pointers on which wines to try with which dishes and each of the wines we enjoyed were lovely, particularly the Turkish red wine which went beautifully with the main dishes. The starters were great coming in quick succession with lots of small plates to try, almost like tapas. We particularly enjoy a clam tartar and a carrot that had been roast overnight, probably the best carrot we had ever tried. All of the food across the meal was lovely with lots of dishes introducing us to new herbs and flavourings, the waiting staff were great and happy to talk us through the finer points of the menu. What was clear was also the passion for and interest in the menu with one of the waiters talking to us about the sourcing strategy the restaurant uses focusing on local and foraged produce avoiding unnecessary importation of fruit and vegetables. I do think that the sheer freshness of all of the food did shine through.Dessert was perhaps the only course that underwhelmed us slightly with the carrot cake dish being lovely but not quite living up to the imagination of previous courses. That said we still really enjoyed it. We also liked the touch of them providing a tea to finish the meal off with as part of the menu.Overall this was an exceptional meal, it is rare to go to a restaurant and find staff so passionate, engaged and focused on providing an exceptional customer experience. This shows through every element of the meal. It was imaginative, well considered and probably one of the best meals I have ever enjoyed in Birmingham. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we will be back.

This is a little bit different: a set menu with most of the food foraged or local. Some weird stuff on offer eg wild wood ants sprinkled on the dessert - cooked of course and I have to say it was delicious! The whole menu was imaginative and beautifully presented. Service also excellent - smiley and knowledgable staff. Wine was very good and great value. We looked it up afterwards and Nomad had not added much to the price unlike many restaurants. Well done all at Nomad - will visit you wherever you pop up next!

Went to the Nomad pop-up restaurant while it was in King's Heath Birmingham, following recommendation from a friend. Don't go into towns much so high street area at night was unappealing but the cafe was tucked away behind the main street, gated with a path of sparky lights guiding us through a lovely walkway to the 'pop-up'. Good start, lovely setting. No fuss in the restaurant - no table linen or masses of cutlery, just a multi-course set menu on the table. The menu was succinct, first course just titled 'Tomato' - very refreshing as you can get a bit fed up of all the flowery language of menu descriptions. My husband's heart sank when he saw Tomato, Beetroot & Fish soup all on the menu but agreed to remain open minded....The staff were excellent - explained the menu a course at a time. The food was superb and very enjoyable, we ate everything!. Good portion sizes and timing just right. Interestingly the course my husband looked forward to the most was the one he liked least ... so this will make him much more easier to persuade next time I think!

The food was incredible! Such a lovely time as we delved into an 8 course meal. The highlight for me was the mutton with mint and pea sauce. Absolutely delicious. They welcomed me and my girlfriend with some wine and a card was awaiting her for her birthday. The waitress (an American lady I believe called Sophia?) was all smiles and really helpful all night. It was different and so much fun! Would definitely recommend.

I was very apprehensive about going but my friend said it was an absolute must. SO glad she persuaded me. What an amazing evening of some of the most incredible food I have eaten. We laughed at the prospect of having a doughnut for a starter, and that was what we got but it was awesome. 7 courses of the most incredible food, and combinations. The "Tomato quiche" was inspirational, and thte quotation marks suggested that it was not going to be a run of the mill quiche and it did not disappoint. I will run out of words to describe every course, suffice to say Thank You to the team, fab food served by the chef at one point, knowledgable very friendly waiting staff. A small wine list but top quality and not too expensive. This is one not to be missed

Nomad I would describe as fine dining in a casual environment . The 6 course tasting menu was good value @ £45 with some unusual dishes & a strong emphasis on fresh vegetables aka Simon Rogan foraging style testing your palate with herby twists. Stand out was the main of pork belly exceptionally well cooked & sublimely succulent !The waitress that served us was very obliging & knowledgeable wine choices were limited but very reasonable on price all in all this restaurant is a pop up & is still a fair way off competing with its more established & indeed more expensive Michelin starred restaurants in the City however with time & its own proper premises due in the near future who knows what these guys may achieve .

Loved everything about our visit to Nomad - the food was incredibly fresh and it was nice to see the vegetables taking a little bit more of the main stage, rather than being a token gesture against the meat. What really struck me was the love that had obviously gone into every dish. The chef clearly has an understanding of flavours too. Staff were friendly and attentive. Price was very reasonable for standard. Will be back without question

If you're looking for a bog standard experience and the same boring menu and dishes, time after time, look elsewhere. But Nomad is literally an unrivalled dining experience and much more than just 'a meal'. The ingredients are foraged or from their allotments as much as possible and the waiting staff are knowledgeable to the extent that our waitress went back and wrote down every single type of mushroom that was in our Pearl Barley and Seaweed Risotto with Truffle Cream (it was over 8 kinds, and most of them I'd never heard of before!)I've been to most of their different pop-ups: their Kitchen Garden Cafe tasting menu residency in Kings Heath, a tapas evening at Loki Wine and Two different 'No Rules' events (You pay anonymously what you think it's worth and the theme and location are only announced 48 hours beforehand, it's incredible!) - one was an Arts Council collaboration and entirely vegetarian, with free-flowing delicious wine available, the other was themed 'Rule Britannia' and included a mind-blowing smoked trout and sour cream ice-cream; this month I'm going to a night themed 'The Man and the Myth'.Nowhere else (except for maybe London) can you experience anything like this. And in London it would cost you an arm and a leg!Its only £45 for a 9-course taster menu at KGC and it's honestly the best money you'll have spent, absolutely michelin-star quality (I think once they have a permanent site Alex will quickly pick one up).Head chef Alex Claridge (brains behind Warehouse Cafe and 1847) has an inspiring ethos - the wines are all reasonably priced and THE SAME - usually £20 a bottle, so that guests can pick their tipples based on their drinking preferences and tastes, rather than being steered by the price tag.At every single visit he has always come out to talk about his dishes, is incredibly passionate and generally a nice genuine person to speak with who remembers us by name now!I especially appreciate the attention to and variety of veg that is in each dish. I am a meat-eater but have so often been dismayed ordering a meat dish which comes with little else, a slab of beef, perhaps a leaf or two and the option to add extortionately-priced carbs which leaves you feeling queasy and bloated. But there's such care taken with balancing flavours of meat with rarely-seen leaves seaweeds, and unusual varieties of produce (yellow beetroots!) it's a delight to discover each bite.We discovered 'Solomon's Seal' here - a vegetable, not unlike a leek, that is bitter and aniseedy on one end, and gets progressively sweeter as you reach the other. This was out 'transition course' between the savoury and sweet dishes on the tasting menu. The waitress explained what it was, where it was from, and which end to start eating it at.Don't miss it. The passion of the staff is enough to go for alone. The adventure and mind-blowing food is almost just a really, really, really damn good bonus. Only problem is that with such an exciting, ever-changing menu I can't stop visiting to try the new things and might be developing a slight addiction to the experience.

I was looking for somewhere extra special to take my boyfriend for his birthday, and having read a few glowing reviews about Nomad thought that it would be a good choice. As it turned out, it wasn't just a good choice, it was a GREAT choice.I wrote to Nomad in advance asking if I could along candles for the birthday, they replied instantly saying not to worry about it and they would sort everything. When we arrived there was a birthday card waiting there for us on our table. It's these little personal touches that make Nomad so fantastic, apart from having brilliant concoctions of unusual and delicious food, you can sense staff are passionate about the restaurant and what it's about and the service they provide. The ambience is great (very much enjoyed listening to the playlist too - great job whoever chose the music!) the food is interesting and delicious (they change the menus each week with locally sourced ingredients), and the staff are fantastic. If you are looking for an unique and personal experience, I couldn't recommend Nomad more. Get in touch with them in advance and let them know what you need, and they will do their utmost to help. Really couldn't recommend it more.

This is one of the most exciting meals I have eaten recently. The experimental combinations meant that some courses worked better than others, but there was really only one that didn't completely wow me, and as an overall package the tasting menu was outstanding. Nomad's food is beautiful - imaginative, thoughtful, and lovingly prepared and presented. The chef's real talent shines through in every course, with flavours that are often new and/or counter-intuitive. Our menu included a broad bean sorbet, a parfait with glazed carrots (both memorable for all the right reasons), and ingredients we hadn't heard of before like sea buckthorn (a zingy citrus berry). The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, and the front of house team are super friendly and really know their stuff. At just over £40 for a seven course tasting menu, it's also great value.Nomad is something special - a must do if you are in Birmingham (and certainly worth a journey from further). Go with an open mind and you won't be disappointed.

Cannot disagree more with the previous negative review!Attended the nomad event hosted at kitchen garden cafe.Firstly, welcomed really graciously by the hostess and shown to our seats. We were shown the menu and shown the craft beers and local brews which matched specific courses. Refreshingly, we were welcomed to try one, some, all or none at all! Was lovely to not be given the hard sell for once and left to make our own, albeit, informed decision. All courses were nicely timed. Have been to a few 5-7 course meals and have felt as if the food is being pushed/forced upon me but this was nothing like that. The hazelnut accompaniment in the rabbit course was a lovely contrast. And the tomato water "sauce" was packed with flavour. The fish course was my favourite. Smokey ray wing with two delicious accompaniments. The triple cooked chip was very delicious and although at first sight seemed a bit strange to just be served the one chip, if was rich enough to sustain til the next course!I was apprehensive towards the brie sorbet but was very pleasantly surprised and loves the freshness of the elderflower. The bubblegum flavoured shavings in the dessert were also amazing! All in all, not just a great meal but a fantastic evening altogether. Credit to Alex and will definitely be keeping my ear to the ground for his next new venture.Top marks!HitPictures are of rabbit and the dessert

Visited this restaurant after reading such great reviews. What a disappointment! All meat and fish courses were smoked with an overpowering dose of sugar, in one form or another. Combinations that just didn't work I.e. marshmallow crab and beef with cheese foam. Tasteless smoked shin on a bed of pumpkin seeds in liquid, proporting to be risotto. Reminded me of food from a Glastonbury festival tent, circa 1975 (that shows my age!)All very well but not at £45 a head! I understand the experimental nature of this, but for these prices dishes should work. Although the waitresses were very helpful and understanding, the chef chose to only speak to those that fawned over him, and missed any constructive criticism by avoiding our table. No more at Nomad thank you!

I've been to two Nomad events now, one on the top floor of the Rotunda in April '15 and a week ago at BOM, a gallery in Birmingham City Centre. Both were fantastic. The one at the Rotunda was a collaboration between Nomad and cocktail creators, KitchInn, so that every course was paired with a cocktail - as there were (I think) 6 courses, that should go some way to explaining why I'm struggling to remember what some of the later courses were.... When we first sat down we were presented with what looked like a mini box of Rice Krispies and a tiny bottle of milk, but which turned out to be cocktail comprised of Kahlua infused cereal with a bison milk vodka, which you then ate with a white chocolate spoon. That was then followed by a risotto made of up English breakfast flavours, so mushrooms, egg, and bacon, but definitely not as you'd expect. Other courses were the chef's take on cheese and pickle sandwiches (amazing) and then there was a course that was meant to be a late night take away (duck and pancakes), which even arrived in a white plastic bag in takeaway cartons. Some other commenters have described it as being Willy Wonkaesque, and I think that's a brilliant description. All of the food (and drink) was wonderful, but more than that the whole evening was just really unexpected and fantastic (drunken) fun.The gallery event was a Nomad NoRules event, which basically means that you eat what you're given and then you pay what you think the meal was worth (or what you can afford). The theme of that meal was plants and so it was a completely vegetarian meal with all (or most) ingredients that were indigenous to the British Isles. Again, another fabulous meal and we loved the touch of the wine in the watering can. Nomad are apparently at The Kitchen Garden Café (another brilliant venue) in Kings Heath until August and I'll definitely be booking in there soon.

My friends and I had an amazing time at the Nomad #norules event in Birmingham City Centre in May. The food was served Tapas style using all local and foraged ingredients. There were 14 courses in total and every dish was as unexpected and surprisingly delicious as the last. The creativity and flair behind these dishes was just fantastic and the element of surprise meant a thoroughly enjoyable and unpredictable night. The pick and mix wine was also a fun element which led to 3 bottles being enjoyed and slightly sore heads the next day. I sincerely can't wait for the next event!

As someone who loves dining out and also trying new things Nomad was an obvious choice. I wasn't disappointed. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress and gave a brief overview of what Nomad is about. There was a choice of menus, long and short. I am very glad we went with the long menu as the dishes which were missing to make the "short" menu were amazing and things I would have been sad to miss. Not that I would known at the time, ignorance is bliss etc, but still: lamb/sunflower seed risotto and gin-soaked pears. One or two of the dishes weren't exactly to my taste, but that's why it's a taster menu and others in my party certainly made sure nothing went to waste. We asked for advice on wine, this was helpfully given and didn't turn out to be too expensive either. We also asked the waitress far too many questions (reasonably priced wine, see). She seemed very happy to chat to us, explain things, speak to the kitchen to get answers and generally make sure we were getting the best experience possible.Birmingham is definitely having a food revolution, with a good contribution from Nomad, and proving that you don't need to spend hundreds of pounds to have high-quality, interesting food using sustainable ingredients. Don't miss out! Also, we ate tasty ants. Deliberately I hasten to add.

I look forward to many more Nomad fine dining opportunities. Pennywort, moss, vinegar powder and sea buckthorn to name just a few new tastes I enjoyed .I would however have liked a little more on each plate to fully appreciate each texture and flavour. The venue is lovely for unpretentious, relaxed dining and I hope the atmosphere can be maintained wherever Alex pops up again. Tbf, some of the buffet was okay, but salad/crudities were not good, cold mangetout, horrible cold mini corn.. A lot of money for what we had. We did get money back for the missing dips and coleslaw (only 1 delivered) they did send a lovely lady round with the missing items, by which time all our guests had arrived.
