Me and my girlfriend came here as a change as it’s not our closest chippy but we are so glad we came because it was nothing short of amazing. The food was brilliant from the lovely chips to the perfectly cooked fish and we were so impressed. The customer service was really good too as I’ve been into other takeaways and they haven’t even spoken to me unless I was actually ordering some food so the atmosphere was a bit awkward but milnthorpe chippy was so nice as I felt so welcome and it was just a lovely atmosphere all together. Totally recommend and will definitely come again!

Decided to go to milnthorpe chippy after not being in for years as fancied a change and the food was delicious. The price wasn’t too much with good portion sizes, the staff were very helpful and polite and also chatted to me and my younger sister which made the wait better. The customer service was excellent and the young girl who served me was very polite and friendly. I would definitely go again as my experience was excellent.

Wouldn’t waist your money, vile fish and raw chips, no knifes, no sauce, bland. Tasteless even with salt and vinegar, what’s so difficult about cooking fish and chips seriously?!

many moos ago, when i was in the T.A, on a Friday heading to Barracks, the truck load of us use to call in for a chippy, for what was described as perfect fish n chips. Fast forward a few years and now and then heading home via the A6 through Milnthorpe, ive called in for a chippy, very good chips, not like they used to be, but good. February 2020, driving home, tea time, thought id have a chippy, the street was dark and the only illuminated shops was the Pizz/kebab shop and other shops, for some reason, i could not locate the chippy, I consider it, haveing a moment, anyways after parking up and reversing, cutting other drivers up and getting Narky, it came to me the chippy was further up the road, there was a A board on the pavement, advertising themselves but you wouldnt notice until you fell over it and the illuminated light over the shop was out. I told the owner, his shop isnt clealy displayed and he sid he will look into it. There wasnt much choice, baring in mind, it was 5.15 5.30 ish PM, so i ordered a bag of open chips and a sausage. To my surprise it came to about £6.30, bemused, but thought sod it. Got to my car and found the Chips were luke warm, floppy and certainly not worth the money, the sausage tasteless and oily, yes i ate it, i was hungry, and spent £6.30. Would i go again, no, very disappointed at the quality, the cost, and the overall taste Shame, i can see this chippy closing and turning into a house or flats as per norm in the near future. Sam.

Recently taken over by George Hallam,. I feel robbed. £6.30 for what was the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The chips were dry and horrible. The fish tasted rank. Won't be going there again and I was a regular customer.

Me and my partner stopped at no17 chippy for our tea, as far as chippys go this is by far the best in the area. The chips are just how they should be (crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside). The pricing is very reasonable and the staff are all very friendly. My only suggestion (not complaint) would be to use smaller boxes for the chips. Although you do get a great portion it looks kind of a small portion in the large boxes.

Just sat down and was looking forward to our evening Fish & Chips after continually checking after many weeks of closure due to "gone fishing sign in window" So to our surprise it finally opened again, were we satisfied with their latest offering??... NO WE WERE NOT! Worst fish n chips we have ever had previously! The fish had been cooked to the point it was totally dried out and not much of it after discovering most of it was just batter. The fish content was that thin we could not even cut it as so tough, the saving grace was that the chips were fine. If this is what they are offering for £17 which was for two fish n chips and one chips and cheese and one mushy peas and curry sauce then simply put on the above performance they will certainly not have a business so they may as well "go fishing again" but this time catch some fish that are more than 5mm thick and will not be incinerated with lashings of batter. We would suggest they cook fish when ordered and not to lye in a heated cabinet for goodness knows how long further drying out to then represent a thin piece of what can only be described as battered cardboard!

I visited the chip shop as a one off, I don’t really have takeaways that often, and was suitably impressed. There was a short wait when I ordered, 5-10 minutes. Which they explained was due to the fact that they needed to cook some more fish as they had sold all the others. This was a bonus as it meant that the fish was definitely freshly cooked and hadn’t been sat on the counter for hours. The staff were very kind and helpful providing answers to all the questions I had about the food. The whole shop was kept very clean and tidy, and didn’t have the usual greasy feel that chip shops have due to all the frying. When my food arrived I really enjoyed it the batter on the fish had a nice crunch to it, and the chips were good too. Overall I enjoyed the overall vibe of the chippy, and the quality of the food

Waited 45 mins for 2 fish and chips. They had run out of peas, forks and bags!! Shop was hardly full and 2 customers left because they were sick of waiting. The man frying knew what he was doing but was obviously frustrated with the lack of ability of the woman doing the till. When the food eventually came, there was a huge difference in the portion size!! Chips were floppy and greasy and wet! Quite unpleasant.. should have gone to Arnside Chippy !

I visited this establishment in my home village when it reopened as I was fed up with having to travel for decent fish and chips. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food; we had two fish and chips, a battered sausage and chips and a kids chicken bites meal. The kids meal cake with a drink which made my youngest very happy and it was a Cawstones Press carton which is low in sugar (bonus for a bust mum with already hyper children). The fish was a beautiful golden colour and had a crisp crunch to it, the fish was succulent and meaty (I believe it was cod). The chips were fresh and crispy with a nice potatoey middle.

We visited when the shop first opened and apart from the long wait the fish and chips were well cooked and delicious. However since then standard of the food has declined. We called yesterday the 24th January at tea time, the fish was very overcooked the batter was dark brown not a light brown you would expect it to be. (How often do you change the fat for frying?) The containers the fish was served in was swimming in grease the batter although crispy exposed the fish which was dry and chewy. We ended up throwing the fish away but ate the chips. We will not be visiting again.

Visited for takeaway. Very mediocre. Homemade cheese pies looked appetising, unfortunately the pastry at the bottom was raw and a pastry brush bristle reared its ugly head in the pie. The filling was tasty. Large chips £1 extra from normal chips, however excessive cost for nine chips.

I have waited ages for the refurbishment of the number 17 chippy in Milnthorpe. Before closure I had the best steak and kidney pudding, chips, peas and gravy and I wished for that every Friday, but were always closed for the refurbishment. Today my husband went and got a meal for himself and myself and my son and we had steak pie, pea's, chips and gravy. This was because the steak and kidney puddings were sold out at lunch time. I can only relate to you my despair as this meal was horrendous ( I am sorry I have had to use such a harsh word) the pie was turned upside down where it could not be visible that the pastry all on top and gone hard and was very very difficult to cut never mind eat and that was for both mine and my husband's, the chips portion was so small and the spoonful of dried out peas were put on top of the chip's. The only nice thing I can honesty say was the best gravy.

Visited a couple of months back and was sadly disappointed. Went early on a Friday night and there was only a couple of people in the queue so was expecting to get served quickly. I waited for around 20-25 minutes. No17 restaurant is one of my favourite places to eat so was expecting similar quality here. The fish was ok but the chips were such a let down, soggy and cold and tasteless. Unfortunately wouldn't visit again based on this visit.

Been driving past this chippy for years in favour of Arnside due to poor quality fish and chips, been back in though since No 17 took it over and at first it seemed good. A few months on however it’s back to the way it was before. Called in this evening, very quiet, about 5.30 pm so fish was cooked to order, got it home and all I can say is I was extremely disappointed. A small, thin, greasy triangle of fish, rubbery or hard chips, more sauce than peas in the mushy peas. It only got a 1 because it filled a gap as I was starving. If I’d lived closer I’d have taken them back.

I am so very disappointed to be writing this review. Last week’s fish and chips bore little, if any, resemblance to those on my first visit back in January. The fish was very nice, but the batter was soggy underneath and actually tasteless. The chips were a real “mixed bag” of thick, thin, undercooked, over cooked, badly peeled potatoes. NOT at all enjoyable. What on earth has gone wrong??

thought we would try the newly refurbished chippy ,which has been renamed and is all sparkly and new. very busy when we went in on Friday night at the end of January.,which is a good sign/. I had a normally battered fish and my wife had a lightly battered one which were both cooked to our liking and as good as we have had for quite a while. The chips were good too but maybe not as good as we had at the Harbourside at Plymouth, but maybe that is an unfair comparison as they have got awards. Good selection of alternatives if fish is not your choice for the day

Thought we’d travel from Arnside (where there is already an excellent chippy) just to try the new No. 17 chippy and it was well worth it. Lovely crispy chips on the outside and soft on the inside and fish was covered in lovely crispy (but not too crispy) batter. Portion sizes were perfect for the average appetite. It is a Pleasantly enjoyable atmosphere under the covered seating areas. Enjoyed listening to the rain whilst cosy and warm with the patio heater on above. Fish of the day is either cod or haddock. Today was haddock and it was cooked perfectly with light and crispy batter. Washed down with draft Italian beer and super fast service made this an excellent experience.

The play area should be cleaned more often , I took my 10 month old in there Thursday when it was completely empty and she caught hand foot and mouth, this is the only place we have been in weeks and all she touched was the green seat next to the play area😫 the staff nice though as helped me carry food to my table , but probably the play area should be sanitised more often
