Ninetyeight Bar & Lounge in Hackney

Everything in this place is amazing, from the unique layout design to the the delicious cocktails and the friendly staff. It is a visual overload of amazing objects, architecture and vintage design put together in a classy way. I always take my friends here and it is always an amazing experience. Special thanks to Kath who made it a welcoming place for a few drinks for us.

We had a private function and whiskey tasting in the new Superhero Room and it was fantastic! Apart from learning loads and enjoying some outstanding rare whiskeys the room was perfect for us and the detail of the decor is IMPRESSIVE. For some reason whiskey and superheros really go together!! Strange but true. We proceeded to have some drinks at the bar downstairs (the owner kindly showed us around as the bar will only open to the public again later in the month) the Tiki bar is awesome and the main bar decor is just mindblowing, cosy and wonderfully different - so were the drinks! What an all round refreshing experience. I cannot wait for this place to open doors in November. I must say also the owner Kath is a total gem, the staff is very knowledgable and so very kind! So blown away by the whole experience! It will be my new favourite bar hands down.

We finally decided to visit this place after reading about it online. It is hidden downstairs on the main road. You might even pass it. There is a spiral staircase taking down to the bar. We arrived on early Saturday night and were greeted and seated quickly. The decor was keeping our eyes busy and the room we sat was by the piano, using a grand piano as a table. There was a high glass window, big mirror in front of us and loads of plants around us. The other rooms looked more intimate and more colourful and unique with details. Our cocktails arrived quickly and looked great, one being served in a suitcase which was a lovely surprise. The flavours were nice but it was nothing super outstanding or wow. Drinks were good pricing from £10 The music is too loud, it was hard to have a conversation. And the presence of a security guy just standing behind my back at all times made me a little uneasy. It is indeed another place trying to be unique and special. But for some reason I didn't have that feeling of coming back and feeling that wow factor.

Oh my goodness....what I witnessed in this place tonight was nothing short of shocking. My partner and I stumbled across this place by accident and initially were impressed by the decor and ambience. We were tended to by Tasmin who was friendly and helpful. We sat at the bar and as the place got busier the bar itself was filling up with glasses. Tasmin was trying to move the glasses into some area behind the bar. The weirdo guy behind the bar, who appeared to be the head barman, had been gradually getting more and more drunk and started to shout and create a scene in front of us all. Another member of staff came from the back and tried to calm this obnoxious prat down but he seemed too far gone to reason with and was venting his anger on the one person who had delivered good service. He then proceeded to push this poor girl and she shouted for him “not to touch her”. He then told her to leave, as if it was her fault?! How are people like this allowed to bully and command positions of authority? He should have been the one leaving and I can only hope that Tasmin is ok and the Italian? bartender gets what he deserves. I would advise everyone to stay clear of this place. Bullying and mistreatment of staff is not ok!!

My friends & I had just finished our escape room experience up the road when we googled the nearest cocktail bar and found this magical hidden gem! The entrance was down a winding staircase & as soon as we stepped inside the staff made us feel welcome & offered us several different tables in 2 different rooms. The decor was incredible, like nothing we'd ever seen fairytale like. The general feel in the bar was very relaxed & cool, the music was varied to suit the customers requests which only added to our enjoyment as one minute we'd be sipping our cocktails to Cher & the next we'd be bopping away without realising to current chart toppers. The cocktails....... Wow wow wow! Absolutely amazing, the attention to detail was like no other, not only were they all delicious but also by far the prettiest I'd ever seen. We only intended to stay for one drink but ended up spending our whole evening there! What a fantastic bar, this is why we love London! We are already planning our next visit.

Some good friends took me to this bar 98, and we had the best night. The decor is very Alice and wonderland is only way I can describe it, but it made for a very fun atmosphere. The music was just the right level that after a few cheeky cocktails and we were all dancing in our seats and even up on our feet. Staff were all so friendly and the cocktails were delicious. Probably one of the best nights I’ve had in quite some time, we will definitely be returning.

If you are looking for something a bit different, this place will do the trick! Strange decor, drifting between sophisticated and tacky but overall quite comfortable and relaxed, there were 5 of us sitting around one of the tables, I kind of felt like I was in my grandmas house, but high. Cocktails were very very good. I requested something vodka and lemony that wasn't lemonade and they whipped something up that was exactly what I was looking for. The cocktail that comes in the smoking box is also a fun novelty. Will return next time I am around Curtain rd

Love this place. Great cocktails, lovely staff and the most amazing decor that will make you feel like you're in another world that is a mix between Alice in Wonderland and all your childhood dreams. Can't wait to come back and thanks to the lovely owner/manager as well for the Tequila shots for winning on the slot machines.

For me and my boyfriend it already was a very strange but magical night! We are from holland and we just arrived two days ago and a friend of ours wanted to show us around shore ditch and told us about the morrel house. At night me and my boyfriend went to a restaurant were we met two great people that live in London and later on we went out for a drink together! So we saw that the Morrell house was open and thought, why not? We went there and met more great people. Before we left we met the owner of the place, and she is the most sweetest and loving person i’ve ever met ❤️ sending her some love over here! I can truly recommend you to go to this place if you like art and typewriters✨ We will definitely come more often to london and visit her place ❤️

Absolute amazing cosy and friendly place. The staff can't do enough for you and the retro 1980's inspired deco is wonderful. Lots of choice of superb funky cocktails to try and well priced ! Met the owner who clearly has a passion for what she's achieved.

Mi marido y yo vinimos para bebidas antes de la cena en un sábado por la noche (no reserva) y nos llevaron a la "mesa". caballos balancín Nuestro camarero era muy amable y servicial, aunque a veces se olvidan de llevar agua! Los cócteles son realmente interesantes y diferentes, pero también puedes tener tradicional si lo prefiere. Mi favorito fue el millonarios de Mojito, mi esposo era el jefe, que llega con fumadores mucho teatro, pero no estropear la sorpresa. Los cócteles eran £10 pero 12. 5% de cargo por servicio. Me pareció que era una excelente relación calidad-precio dada la calidad y el hecho de que teníamos servicio de mesa.

Nos metimos en el bar ninetyeight mientras espera por una mesa en el Flatiron. Fue una fiesta para los ojos para caminar en un sitio con tal de moda y decoración colorida. Estaba tranquilo en el tiempo que estuvimos allí, pero me encantaría alojarme más tarde para ver cómo se desarrolla el ambiente. Personal encantador y amable.

Visitamos el sábado por la noche con 10 amigos. Tuvimos que reservar una zona y dejar un depósito que no era un problema en absoluto. Utilizamos el vendaje. Pensé que esto significaría el lugar sería ocupado y tienen un gran ambiente. No fue así.

Este lugar es absolutamente increíble. Te sientes como en un mundo mágico y oculto no creas lo que ves a tu alrededor. El propietario es maravilloso, y el equipo es extremadamente complaciente! Se debe visitar el lugar, muy única y muy recomendable.

My FAVOURITE spot in East London. Kath, the owner is honestly a gem and her team are wonderful.Ive had a leaving party and birthday here and was so well looked after and everything ran smoothly. On my leaving party, we had the whole place to myself and I felt completely special.What a shame that some customers feel the need to take the lovely ornaments and argue bills on their birthday! WE ALL KNOW the cocktails are a DREAM but too much of anything will result in silly reviews and confusion. hehe.Home from home meets a beautiful wonderland.I am excited to swing by and see what their mixologists are up to!

This bar is a hidden gem! It's easy to miss as you have to walk down a spiral staircase. Once you get down, you'll be greeted with a kaleidoscope of colors. The first room is like you've walked into someone's flat that was turned into a bar. The second room, the arboretum or tree room is like being outside on a serene summer Saturday. And the back room, the bandage room, well, look at the photos to understand.And now to the service. The bartenders -- Ace, Osvaldo Romito and Dragos weeeon point. The menu was great, but if not enough, tell them what you like and they will make it.Highly recommend!!

I saw the pictures and read reviews about this place and knew I had to come visit! We had walked right past it the first time of trying to find it thinking it was an exclusive expensive bar. As you walk down the metal spiral staircase you instantly leave 'London' and greeted by smiling faces who quickly sat us down and presented us the Cocktail list.Our first drinks were very yummy as we took in the quirky features of the room. It was perfectly lit with good music making our girls night out the way we wanted with chit-chat, theatre and delicious drinks. The second drinks we chose were alot stronger than expected and maybe they can add to the experience by providing small glasses of water. I most likely be visiting again and taking new friends to this wonder-filled place as the prices were reasonable and service was great.

Having been invited to friends birthday party celebrations at this bar I feel we and all the guests ( in excess of 110) have been completely RIPPED OFF and it's a shame that Kath has not taken heed to meetings recently regarding the bar bill.£6,000 was the minimum spend for the customers on the night or the deposit of £500 is lost. A selection of expensive cocktails and wine were on the menu with 2 bars serving. One bar was adding a service charge on top of the drinks price where as the other bar was not.very odd set up.If cash was used to purchase drinks it was apparent that no receipt was given. If using a credit card then it went through the till.After a "fun" evening which may I add it was, it was then confirmed the party did NOT make the threshold of £6000 which is unbelievable as Kath said the deficit was a country mile from the expected total. I find that incredibly hard to believe seeing as there was glasses flowing and most people were charged an extra service charge on top of the expensive prices. Very very disappointing after what should of been a wonderful birthday celebration. To add to the outrage on our return home I noticed that white paint was covering all my family's shoes.It turned out that after communication with everyone attending also had damaged painted shoes.That's one hell of a lot of shoes damaged from paint from the immaculate WHITE bandaged room.I will now have to claim off Kath's insurance to replace the shoes apparently.Sadly the whole experience has upset and angered a lot of people and spoilt what could of been a successful party.Kath is a greedy incredulous woman

I had probably walked past the stairway to this bar about 500 times and never noticed its existence. When I walked down the metal staircase to get in, I thought that would be the best thing about it - I was so wrong. You walk into the sweet incense fog, greeted with smiles from the bar staff before you've even had a chance to look around at the insane yet totally plausible decor. I spent the most incredibly spontaneous night here, Ace is probably the best bartender in the entire world. He was attentive, made the most delicious cocktails and generally kept us completely entertained. And then there's Cath. Cath is the owner and designer of this wacky house of fun. She introduced herself and offered to give us a guided tour of the hidden rooms and told us about her inspirations for papering the walls with bandages. I can't wait to go back to this bar ... SO MANY TIMES.

Having visited years ago for a private party, we dropped in for a drink before dinner. Although no reservation, we were promptly seated at the Lego table! The drinks list may be short but there is a fully stocked bar, thus do not be alarmed. Adam is a great mixologist, who knows his liquor. I didn't love anything on the menu, so he created a gin based drink with ease and it was perfect! My friend had the last drink on the menu with the smoke.. magical! The decor is quaint, deffo one of its selling points; it is very kitsch! Imagine your living room, pimped up with various chairs from your various grandmothers! It's really amazing! It doesn't get five stars because the waiting staff could be more attentive!

Lovely hidden gem, quirky decorations that almost feel like someone's hipster grandma's living room! Only had one cocktail but it was good and staff were nice, my friends drink was a bit on the over-the-top gimmicky side being served in a small treasure chest type box, but it was still quite fun. They limit the amount of people that can go in to prevent it from getting crowded which is great, but we didn't know you had to book and were lucky enough to get 2 seats at the bar.

After all the reviews we went here for a friends birthday. Very bizarre bar with quirky attire but that's as interesting as it gets the rest is disappointing. With only 10 cocktails on their menu and when asked what wines/champagnes they had staff were unable to tell me or find me a list nor price? mojito terrible thankfully replaced. Friend ordered canapés (very poor flaky spring rolls and dry chicken satay for £12/person!) my friend bought her own cake (very expensive) and was told we were unable to have it (after spending nearly £400!) due to "potential health risk" for clientele (slipping on the cake?!) but we had the canapés in the bar which were flaky spring rolls and dry chicken satay!) And the final disappointment was when we requested the bill - took 30 minutes and was incorrect (over charging on the canapés 8 for £100?! and additional cocktails) we contested and this took a further 15 minutes to receive - by this point they are lucky we did not all leave but our friend insisted on paying the total. I would not be revisiting this disappointing poorly stocked poorly run bar as you can see from all my previous posts i am a very competent and well received reviewer on trip advisor all over the world and london, mainly on the entertainment scene.

This one of the stranges bars I've been to interior wise. The drinks were delish and the decore is truely odd! It is like a cross between Jumanji and toystory.

We ended up here after the Dream Boys show, which was the main event of my birthday. Somehow wandered this way ( not far at all from their main venue ) & found a cosy looking building with smart, friendly door staff & an inviting atmosphere. The lady leaving with her husband told us to give it a go so in we went and it's so lovely! We stayed here for a while & the cocktails went down a treat. There was something for everyone. My friends bought the 'candy mania' ( I think? if not a similar name ) cocktails and I bought one with fresh avacado & all were very well made. Also, we didn't need to go to the bar to order them & despite being busy a waiter was over right away with drink menus. The furniture is absolutely beautiful, the ambience is lovely & there's enough space for everybody. The other customers seemed to be decent people also who kept themselves to themselves & the entire bar was just lovely. Very pleased we ended up here & could start the rest of my birthday night off well :)

We were made to feel like honoured guests from the moment we arrived, and the staff gave us the impression that nothing was too much trouble. The owner also came to speak to us to check we were enjoying our evening, and we were invited to try (for free) samples of some of their latest cocktail ideas. All in all, a great evening. We have recommended this place to lots of friends and family, and now to you. Go there.

First visit to this amazing and quirky gem. Can't believe it's been here for 30 years (according to our lovely waitress). In the middle of buzzing Shoreditch it was pleasantly calm (it was only 6pm!). Friendly, attentive staff. Great innovative cocktails and fantastic decor. A good soundtrack which allowed for conversation. This was the perfect start to our evening. We were all very impressed - Thank you!

Well what an experience! Loved the cocktails - such theatre in their presentation. Great table service too and not too expensive - especially for a cocktail bar right in the heart of Shoreditch. Make the effort to find this little, cosy, eclectic bar - you won't regret it!

I stumbled across this bar whilst reading time out reviews. The cocktails were very nice. The atmosphere was nice also. The only fault is if you're going to place people near the speakers you have to be prepared to turn down the volume slightly so people can talk to each other.I would recommend coming here and I will be returning. Additionally the decor is quirky and leaves you with plenty to look at.

Down in the cellar, this hidden gem is wonderful. All alcoholic cocktails are £10 each, they don't have a separate non-alcoholic cocktail menu but you can have any of the cocktails just made without the alcohol for £7 each. I ordered a 'Smoking Head' a whisky based cocktail and it came in a mini antique style suitcase which, when you opened it, had a skull emitting smoke so when you drank the cocktail you could still taste the smoke! A fantastic piece of drama that I had never seen before.

My go to place for an array of choice and a fine alternative to the loud, overcrowded surrounding bars. Weather you're having wine, cocktails or their well hidden ghost chilli tequila (hidden for a damn good reason) each visit will be one to remember... although ironically my vision has been admittedly blurred during most of my visits.

Always good to bring someone from 'out of town' to show off a hidden gem. Pricey but delicious cocktails. The decor is amazing, I adore it all.

Loved this place - we arrived around 6pm so pretty much had the run of it.Bandage room was great fun and there was loads of opportunity for photos around the various quirky areas. Cocktails were excellent - I asked staff to recommend mine and ended up with a treasure chest that opened with billowing smoke!What's not to like about special effects, chairs covered in bandages and dinosaurs on the wall?

A large group of friends booked for an afternoon 'soirée' and what fun we had! A rather brilliant venue with interesting cocktails and incredible decor. We couldn't stop discovering all the little touches. A must visit and a highlight amongst all of our friends.

A really great find in the middle of Shoreditch, this bar is a hidden gem not far from the centre of the city.The décor is art gallery chic with a quirky twist, the cocktails are really amazing and the bar staff are really friendly and professional and the service was fantastic.We booked this for corporate drinks and it made a refreshing change from the usual bars, the snakes and canapé are good value for money and the quantities very generous.Kath the owner is more than happy to accommodate any requests and her hands on friendly approach sums up this lovey unique bar.

I loved this place! Quirky decor you must experience yourself, awesome drinks and very friendly staff. Reservations recommended and it's a bit hard to find as it's located in the basement (you need to walk down a small spiral staircase), but totally worth looking up.

A fabulous find in Curtain Road, I was curious as I work nearby and had an opportunity to explore, so pleased I did; Ninetyeight is completely original, you have the feeling that you are inside an artwork, super original cocktails, I can recommend the 'Hardshake' (rum based) and the 'Chilie Treasure'. A great atmosphere and good place to start, end or spend an evening. Strangely the Trip review questionsrefer to it as a restaurant, which it is not.

This place is one very experience. It offers a great place for socialising, drinking and just talking with friends. However, it is a visual cornucopia with so much to take in that it is a must to visit more than once. The range of decor varies across a range of genres and will allow you something to keep the conversation and drinks flowing. they also offer nibbles adn cheese boards to accompany the bespoke cocktail menu. There are themed rooms and something for everyone. It feels like something you would find in the East Village, NYC.

There's no other place like it - the atmosphere is perfectly matched with the sublime cocktails, which in fairness is matched by the extremely friendly staff. It's a perfect place to take friends to and spend a few hours going through the cocktail list!

Came here with a friend to revisit some of the old places we used to hang out on 6 years ago and we were received like old friends. Amazing drinks, service and mood and shoutout to the manager kath for being such a sweetheart, even getting us a drinks after we broke a glass. Definitely recommend it. Hugo and Matvei

Another fabulous birthday evening in the best bar in London, the staff are amazing and the quirky environment and decor is without a doubt the best bar in London ! The music is always pitched perfect for the atmosphere, love love love this bar it's a definite must visit, just beautiful, thank you to the staff and owner who always make you feel exceptionally welcome, see you very soon.

Went tonight. Fantastic, cool and original place. All the staff seemed lovely but our waitress that served us was pretty moody, like she couldn't be bothered. Wrong attitude for a place like that. My advise- smile, chat and be polite.

This quirky bar in Shoreditch is unique. The decor is interesting enough to keep you amused for hours. New cocktail "From Hungary with love" is divine.

Wow what a stunning place! But was such a let down on my special day. We booked a table and when we arrived others were sat there so they had to be moved and we were left standing around not knowing what was going on and neither did anyone else and then we found out the main area so where the DJ and dance floor is was booked for a private function so we couldn't even have a dance. I wish we were told before. I expect when the whole place is open it's an amazing night it was just bad luck when we arrived so we stayed for one and then went to queen of Hoxton. Was really looking forward to spending the night there especially with a table but we managed to find fun else where. Would try again if I was in the area and the main area wasn't hired as from the reviews seems a great place if u can dance!

I visited this bar along with 8 others for a friends birthday. My friend lives in London and googled some good places to go and this popped up. So glad we went , its unique quirky and different not a generic 'weather spoons' staff were lovely and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

...but it would be a crime to keep it to myself! I recently hosted a birthday here and had the most amazing night. Cath whom I dealt with on the phone and on the night was a true gem and made us feel so welcome. We were greeted with a big smile from all the staff, and led to the bandage room where we plotted for the evening. There is a bar at the front and at the back so you are never waiting long. Drinks are reasonable and the decor and atmosphere in there make it an absolute delight to be there. The staff closed off a door to stop people walking through our area, although it wasn't a problem, it was a nice touch. It's an intimate venue but perfect for private parties and birthday gatherings. I will be going back very soon! Highly recommend.

Always come here most times I'm in Shoreditch. Great atmosphere and a playful pop interior in here. Cocktails have always been Great in this creative little space.

Having just been told of the London Oktoberfest last minute cancellation I had to find a venue for a party of 20 in a hurry. Kath, the owner was extremely accomodating. The bar is wonderfully quirky and the staff were simply fantastic. We had an amazing night, great cocktails, great atmosphere and great music! I don't generally write reviews but credit where credit is due. Big thankyou to Kath and her staff for turning what looked like a disaster in a fabulous evening!!!

I can't think of one bar in London that compares to Ninetyeight Bar. It's fantastically decorated and has a real warm homely feel about the place. They have a great variety of cocktails and the staff is fantastic. Kathy, who owns the bar always makes everyone feel so welcome. I can't recommend this place enough. If you are in the area you must go check out Ninetyeight Bar, and if you are no where near the area, make sure you put Ninetyeight Bar at the top of your to-do list..! - David Smith Segarra

I love this place. It was amazing. The cocktails are great. The staff are great and the popcorn that they continuously give to you is amazing. They also give you sweets. I went for my 30th birthday it is great and it is laid back and you can have a conversation with your friends. If you intend on dancing the night away this is not the place for you. But if you intend on drinking and having a conversation then this is the place for you. Its just a much better place than a pub. Either way I think this place is amazing. Please go there.

First visit with husband last night and it was great. Gorgeous cocktails, the green lady is addictive, friendly staff and the most curious surroundings makes you just want to sit and stare. Thoroughly recommend it.

Called up an hour before hand to book was told everything is arranged for us. Arrived only to be told were fully booked up and sniggered at by the door girl. Then another lady started arguing with her saying we could have a seat but only for 45 mins after we were seated there were a constant stream of staff giving us evil looks. Lol. Never again.

When I walk into this bar I enter a magical land. The cocktails are excellent and are very unique. The owner Kath is warm and very welcoming. I always introduce many friends to this bar after visiting it. It is amazing!

Great quirky hidden bar. Amazing interior decoration and lovely staff. We were served cocktails from an aromatic smoking suitcase! (If the barman asks if you want to 'go off the menu' say yes!!) Highly recommend as a cool alternative to the slightly over done speak-easy bars elsewhere in London. Check it out!

The Ninetyeight Bar & Lounge in Shoreditch, London, is the perfect place to visit if you are into anything that is quirky and alternative. Hidden away under some spiralling stairs is like finding a little hidden gem. Each room in the bar is very creative and artistic - there's something to look at in every direction. The staff are very welcoming and polite. A very exciting selection of cocktails - certainly recommend the Candylife cocktail. Although drinks are quite pricey, they have a nice little touch of consistently serving free popcorn and sweets. Only one complaint, a member of staff asked if we wanted more drinks. One of my friends had clearly said no and so this staff member tried to persuade further. Continuing to bring over a drink that was not wanted but told us it would be free of charge. This was not the case, we were charged for the drink that wasn't wanted in the first place. Did not make a fuss, well...because we're notoriously awkward in that British way of not liking confrontation. Luckily, it was my friend's birthday, we were in a good mood and she liked it anyway. Definitely recommend going though, I would go again for sure!

I visited Ninetyeight bar and lounge August bank holiday for birthday drinks. I enquired about reserving a space before hand via email with the bar being very prompt with their response and booking with a deposit (via Rebecca who was very polite and helpful). On the evening the staff were very professional and friendly on arrival leading us to the back room with our space reserved. The cocktail list is exciting, but they can also make you drinks off-menu. The decor is amazing and it's a great space for groups or dates. The bar staff and table service were all attentive to our needs and quick with delivery. Even Pinto the bouncer was amazing. We had a great night at Ninetyeight and I would definitely return and recommend.

AMAZING venue. It’s like you’ve actually gone into a wonderland. There are sweets, popcorn and toys everywhere. There’s even a Lego table where you can have a little play while drinking. The cocktails are all very bizarre but taste great. The Mojito and the Candy one were some of the best cocktails I have tasted! The staff are very attentive and speedy. If you’re around the area check it out you won’t regret it!!

I came here for my birthday with 13 friends. Upon arrival we were directed to the 'Bandage Room' which looked pretty cool. Everyone loved the privacy and the fact that we could play our own music was an added bonus. Service throughout the night was as expected and the drinks were interesting and unusual. However what really let us down was the end when they insisted we had not paid our entire bill despite the receipts saying otherwise. Up until this point we had a lovely night, but we were really disappointed that it ended on such a low. No one should have to bring out the calculators to prove that they've paid for their drinks!

Finally found an proper intimate cocktail bar in London with fantastic service and the friendliest staff. Will definitely become one of my locals. Absolute bliss!

If you are looking for a cool Shoreditch place to go for drinks, come here. I sat with the mrs at the lego table surrounded by shabby chic decor and sat in a rocking chair. An unusual mix but exactly what i was hoping for from shoreditch. You are looking at £12 a drink though

These guys really push the boundaries w interesting cocktails and blends. Mad décor. however somehow our order was missed and cocktails took 20 minutes to come! however another waitress was quick on the ball and rectified this thankfully.the bouncer is hilarious, - not in a good way (!) - for some reason he stops *everyone* going in ...almost as if he is trying to turn people away, not sure what that's about! the banana infused whisky with peanut butter and bacon brittle will not disappoint!

Myself and 6 friends visited the Ninetyeight Bar & Lounge last night for a cocktail-making "Mixology" class. It was something I had booked well in advance for a friends birthday so we were all very much looking forward to the special occasion. It did not disappoint as Niko the Bartender (who took the class) was incredibly knowledgeable, charismatic and made the experience very fun. The evening was significantly let down by the female Bar Owner who was disappointingly unwelcoming and unfriendly - despite being aware of this special occasion. This woman interrupted the 1 hour lesson on a few occasions - hurrying the Bartender to speed up and finish the class - and doing so very open and obviously. It was completely unprofessional and ugly - and by doing so, she created an unenjoyable, awkward atmosphere and naturally, we did not feel comfortable knowing we were wanted to leave ASAP. She proceeded to order the Bartender to finish ten minutes before our class was due to finish - when I decided to speak up that the class still had time remaining (that we were paying for). This woman barked back at me that "the class is usually £55 not £35 and that it is NEVER run normally on a Saturday night"! She spoke in a patronising manner and as if she was expecting or owed thanks. Why was the booking for a Saturday night accepted if it was un-manageable? I think the whole room was gobsmacked. Shocking host and absolutely no hospitality. My friends had travelled up to 4 hours for this, so I felt terribly let down by her. Apart from this, I have no end of praise for Niko, he is a real genuinely nice guy - welcoming, patient and a great cocktail teacher! His service to us was second to none, and all other staff we met were very friendly.

Happened across this bar after going for dinner elsewhere. We noticed some people going in and asked the doorman what it was. As we went down the spiral stairs we didn't know what to expect - bars around here are a bit of a mixed bag! As soon as we stepped through the door we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to a table. The great friendly service continued all night. This place was exactly right - buzzy but not busy, cool but not pretentious - and the cocktails are great too.

Having been highly recommended by a friend I gave this bar a visit and WOW - it did not disappoint! The cocktails are inventive and delicious. The staff are extremely friendly and were happy to answer all of our questions; very knowledgeable guys! The decor and the atmosphere are fantastic, and the free snacks are a really nice touch. I haven't been to another bar quite like it, a truly unique find. I'll definitely be going back soon!!

Went here the other night with some friends for drinks. It was such a great surprise, a real hidden gem in an area that is saturated with overrated bars and restaurants. The decor is really unusual and the varied cocktail menu is excellent!

Best bar I've been to in a long time. I live in the area and had started to avoid going out in Shoreditch as everywhere seemed over-rated and over-priced. Ninetyeight has brought me back home. Great atmosphere - and the service is second to none. Huge thanks to the super lovely assistant manager for helping us with our ridiculous order. ;) 5 stars and beyond. Definitely coming back.

Went here on Saturday night for a friends birthday. I have to say I was amazed by the decor and thought it was so different and unique. I had a really enjoyable evening here apart from one very rude barman. I don't want to tarnish all the staff with the same brush as they were all very helpful and all had smiles. It was just this one cocktail maker barman that was particulary rude and obnoxious. There was seriously no need for it!!

This place is probably the best bar in Shoreditch. The cocktails are unique, the atmosphere and music is awesome. Love the lego table and dinosaur wall. The place is decorated in a brilliant way. Will definitely return!

I almost don't want to write this review as I don't want too many people to know about this hidden gem but it deserves all the good reviews it gets. A lovely, quaint, quirky bar with a beautiful decor and free popcorn brought to the table and refilled throughout the evening. The bartender made us delicious non alcoholic cocktails with strawberry and elderflower and egg whites...gorgeous. Great setting, some background music and great service. Wonderful place to have a quiet drink and chat with friends.

If you are looking for something different, a place that has its own unique character, cool tunes and great kick off cocktails to start your evening this is it. Hip-stirred and shaken, of course.

I read the reviews below and decided to visit this hidden gem based on them. SO glad that we did!! Keep your eyes peeled when walking along Curtain Road - Morrell House is an inconspicuous building that you wouldn't give a second look to. Morrell House is written on the front of it and below the sign are the winding iron steps down to what looks like a London cellar. We got to the bottom and were welcomed by candle light and a glowy little bar you would NEVER imagine was down there! Noone could walk in off the street to this place without knowing it's there, what a great TRULY HIDDEN diamond of a place. The décor is divine and interesting, but for me the top thing about here is THE SERVICE. We hadn't had dinner so when they put a bowl of pop corn on our table we devoured it like wild animals, highly un-stylish. When they bought our cocktails over, they noticed the pop corn was all gone and bought us over a fresh bowl. Repeat that 4 times. Yes shamefully we got through 5 bowls and they just kept refilling it straight away until we were satisfied! The cocktails - oh my goodness. No words.... just try for yourself! They're in the top league. The cheesecake one was way more alcoholic than I was expecting! :)Don't go here if you are after a party or buzzy atmosphere. Go here with one or two people, or a small group of you, on a night where you want to enjoy the finest cocktails, talking, relaxing, and great service without having to queue for drinks or beat the crowds. Noone knows about it - it's just you and perhaps one or two other tables there. Like having drinks at a glamorous friend's house where the staff are there just for you. THAT Is the beauty. The party's down the road. Don't spread the word too much, we loved how secret and quiet it was :)

98 is a lovely hidden gem of Shoreditch. It's like a little gallery full of beautiful art where you can have a nice and interesting cocktails. It's small but really worth trying out. Service was very friendly too.

what a find!! This place is a gem and can only be described as some sort of fantasy place. The decor is crazy, there are toys climbing the wall, a Lego table and some unbelievable cocktails!! Must go back!!!

What a great little cocktail bar which we would never have noticed if we hadn't been with a friend who lives in London and who introduced us to this great find. Situated in the basement of an old Georgian house in very trendy shoreditch and accessed via a spiral staircase, a bit tricky when you have sampled one or two of their cocktails! Unusual decor inside with lots of eclectic nick knacks and little rooms, our table was a piano!! The cocktails are to die for and if you like bloody Mary's theirs is one of the best I've ever tasted. Not the cheapest cocktail bar but not the most expensive either with the majority of the drinks £10. I would definately recommend this place and would go back tomorrow!!

I went there with 25 of my friends for my birthday the girls were extremely nice and customer orientated, they only took £50 deposit on my table (while any other Shoreditch bar would take 300) the atmosphere is so cute (zebra couches, toys in a frame, feather lamps...) , you can plug your own iPhone and the cocktails are amazing !! Nice place to bring a date too ;) not overcrowded at all (which I don't understand) almost like a secret bar ! Highly recommended!
