If you want burnt coffee then this place is for you, I visited here twice and just wanted a nice americano however both occasions the coffee was burnt and undrinnkable. The barista was Tom and the guy just looked like he woke up and didn’t care about anything he was doing.

The Yellow Warbler is that rare bird: a place that makes Londoners feel like they live in a village. The staff has an uncanny ability to remember your order after only one visit, juggling a sometimes very busy queue with humour and efficiency, the coffee is fabulous, the food too (the tosties were so good and I didn’t need a meal for the rest of the day after that!!). It’s cosy and homely and biggest bonus point for me, the playlist has me singing along to every perfect tune. My apologies to my fellow yellow warbler fans - there are many. A place that manages to get people to come back again and again when Stoke Newington is saturated with coffee shops must be doing something really right indeed.

Best coffee in Stoke Newington hands down. Both the owners Tom and Stuart are obsessed with quality and making all their customers feel welcome. Is always the first visit I make when I’ve been away from London, just a really nice community vibe that makes Stoke Newington such a great place to live. I’ve also seen them helping out the local homeless and selling products for local artists etc and declining commissions, nothing they brag about but just stuff you see if you sit there nearly every day like I do!

I visited for lunch with a friend and several small children. There is a generous children's area and completely relaxed atmosphere. We had a mushroom toasty and dahl; generously served, beautifully flavoured, wholesome and imaginative. Also pastries and coffee. The lady who cooked and served us was charming; welcoming the children and making our lives easier. As a visitor to London I was generally saddened by the customer service of most places we visited, but this cafe cheered me up - thank you!

To get a cup of joe and sit inside is to fully realise a physical embodiment of the Stoke Newington community, one that is microcosmic in what it represents — because in its modest size is a whole lotta heart. I especially enjoy the barista Tom’s easygoing conversations with the loyal customers. It’s delicate in how it kindly steps past ‘small talk’ and is revealing enough to feel like you can be part of something and looked after. Today I had the (sizeable!) kimchi and cheese toastie and, much like the other toasties I’ve had there, it delivered in its melty goodness. Big lunch, big coffee, big heart. Big thumbs-up!! TDLR: bad vibes, after-work-drinks-at-a-cheap-bar-level music (but very tasty coffee). I went for another coffee at the Yellow Warbler this afternoon, after a really bad experience with the rather rude female barista a couple of weeks back. I wrote the weirdly dismissive service off as the barista just having a bad day, so I decided to give the place another go, as it always smells delicious when you walk past. Alas, I should've learned from my first experience. The same dark-haired barista was working this time and she was, again, giving a very hostile attitude to anyone trying to talk with her, to then go on to say some quite mean things about several customers after they had left. Lovely! The French girl working with her seemed friendly, but that didn’t really make up for my mate basically being sneered at when asking a basic question about what was on offer. I have sympathy for café jobs sometimes being really tiring but I don’t get the need to be so rude and condescending for no reason, especially not to customers who are legitimately just trying to have a casual chat. Another noticeable drawback was that the music was so loud it was impossible to hold a normal conversation in the room, despite the café being rather empty. Does the café perhaps think it’s Heaven at 4am? Zero chill. It’s a shame, because the coffees and toasties I've tried here have all been delicious. It’s just a place you don’t want to hang out in for a long time, because it feels very likely the staff will first be rude to you, ignore you and/or then talk about you behind your back as you leave. 1/10.

I've been going there for years but was recently made to feel really unwelcome. First, there was the 'looking at each other' and giggling from the 2 baristas when I walked in. This happened several times. Or, lucky me, the rolling of eyes when she was on her own, rude tone of voice included. I've also had the joy of witnessing her bad-mouthing a customer she didn't like (for whatever reason, that customer was lovely...oh wait, because she found her annoying) to another customer, only to find out through another regular, that she was doing the same to me. She was also rude to my friend who just wanted to pay the bill. Perhaps Miss Eye-liner should be reminded that it's the customers' money that goes towards her pay cheque.

As other reviewers have said, the coffee is very good. We were there for lunch and the food was excellent - tasty, nicely presented and plentiful. Choose a dish with golden beetroot - new to me but delicious. The reason I've not given this cafe five stars is because the place is rather small and cramped, and the seating is not very comfortable.
