Nihal spice in Purbeck

Extremely good experience here with a takeaway. We had about 8 dishes and they were all lovely. Service was prompt, polite, informative and friendly. It was all piping hot and ready in almost exactly the time they said it would be ready - around 25 minutes for freshly cooked food is about perfect. Only one gripe: the food was not particularly spicy, we had one chef’s special and one “medium” and both were somewhat less hot than we are used to. Starters were really good though, the veg samosa’s a particular delight. Thanks!

Truly excellent food, great price and friendly staff! Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys Indian food, or is simply stuck on what to have for dinner! Delivery was fast and food was piping hot too.

The food at Nihal Spice is OK, but this is the second order in a row where we have been over-charged and part of our takeaway order was missing which I didn't discover until I'd served everything else.

Perhaps a cold Sunday evening in January during a Covid lockdown is not the time to arrive hungry in an unfamiliar town but discovering the Nihal Spice did the trick. I couldn't resist the "Mega Curry" and before long I felt much warmer and more content. Service with a smile was a great addition too.

We were self catering in Swanage and looking for a take away which could deliver and Nihal came up in the search. Very glad it did.Nihal’s menu is extensive and has some very interesting and unusual dishes on it alongside all the usual suspects. Delivery was swift and free, prices were very fair, portions were large and everything we tried was delicious.Before we ordered it was explained that the 15% discount only applied to cash and not card. No big deal really

Looking for a takeaway and read on here the reviews for this place saying it was good. We were not disappointed. Food was lovely and great sized portions. I highly recommend it. We will definitely use this place again in the future.

I regularly get takeaways from here and even my family that live in Harrow (spoiled for good Indian food) think the food from here is great. Well done, Nihal Spice.My only issue is that at home I would only every eat organic and free range chicken. I can't be the only one that would pay more for this option? Because of that I often have prawn instead. The King Prawn Tandoori is fabulous. If they had organic options I'd give them the full 5 stars for food.

we had a takeaway and after reading all the reviews thought this might be a good one. Average indian, nothing special. No real depth of flavour. Shame as the reviews were good and I love indian, Bangladeshi food but this was not for me.

We visit Swanage regularly and we always make time for a takeaway from Nihal Spice. The curries are absolutely delicious - so fresh and tasty! We have tried many Indian takeaways and Nihal Spice is our favourite by far. The restaurant has an open kitchen and it is great to see the food cooked right in front of you. Wouldn’t honour the 15% take-away discount promised on their flyer unless I paid cash. No prizes for guessing why that is. Would never go back on principle, and I’d highly recommend you went elsewhere too

Had the king prawn kurma and other sides. Food was top notch and was given really friendly service. Hadn't booked a table in advance but was still served. Would really recommend trying the Kurma.

We have ordered takeaways twice and both times they asked for for more than the prices shown on the current menu on collection. Even when queried they only came down on price partly. We had to ask 3 times to explain the higher amount! Food in the past has been excellent but this time was bland.

Had a lovely takeaway from Nihal yesterday and I was extremely satisfied.Portions were good and the flavours were right up there with the curries im used to back in London.Service was ultra quick too and only had a 20 min wait from order.I’d strongly recommend it

So good that we might go back today. Not sure yet because we've been twice and normally that's enough curry for a three day holiday but this place is good - very good actually. Byob and Bob's your uncle

Tasty take away for the family while we were on holiday. Always a risk going to an unfamiliar take away but we all enjoyed the dishes and they were reasonably priced. My husband went for a hit dish but it was quite mild compared to what he’s used to but still delicious.

Food was fairly bland. Ordered a lamb bhuna, a briyani and a vegan dish. Bhuna was really quite bland. I eat a lot of Indian Food, and thought this could have been more spicy.

Delicious, delicious, delicious. Last night we had a take away from Nihal Spice. Every element was wonderful. My mum said it was the best veggie curry she had ever had and I loved the Lamb Bhuna. All cooked to perfection. Really generous pieces of meat and everything was flavoursome. Clean plates all around. Just wish my local Curry restaurant back home was this good.

This is not fine dining but if you want an exceptional curry experience then this is the place. Staff are very pleasant and hard working.

Fantastic food and brilliant service. My son celebrated his 11th birthday here and said it was his favourite meal ever. No licence, so you need to bring your own bottle.

Fantastic Indian takeaway with seating for 12 people. I ordered food for 12 so had to wait 45 mins - they were up front about it from the start and I had no issues. When we got the food it did not disappoint - every dish was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were friendly and despite being very busy managed to get everything right.

Only been having takeaway deliveries obviously but the food is easily the best in the area 👍 Better than we have whilst up North actually. Clean and fresh tasting with perfect spice so can highly recommend 👌👌

Happy friendly staff, nice clean place. I enjoy being able to watch the food being cooked. We have tried several different dishes which have been recommended by the staff and thoroughly enjoyed them. So have now tried different dishes that we possibly wouldn’t have tried.

We love it here, the food is lovely with lots of flavours excellent value for money, I would say it’s the cheapest Indian in swanage. Staff are so friendly and always remember you.

5 of us came up for a weekend camping and the blues festival. We wanted quick fresh food and fancied an Indian. I found this place after a search on Google and we were very impressed. The place is clean and the staff were all very engaging and the quality, portions and prices were excellent. No fuss formica tables and you see the food being prepared over the counter. One of the best all round Indian meals we've ever had...and pretty much stumbled on it. No alcohol licence when we visited but very happy for us to bring our own from the pub next door. Honestly couldn't recommend this place enough. Thanks lads!!!

Been before and loved it as a result tried dishes we had never had before as trusted chef. All brilliant. Thoroughly recommended but be prepared for a wait due to popularity!

We ordered take away for 5, was ready and hot at the time we asked. The food was superb. I’ve been in all the other Indian restaurants in Swanage and this places knocks them into a cocked hat. Highly recommended

It’s a typical Bangladeshi fast food curry house, with a ridiculous amount of choices, and essentially all very similar meals. That said, it is better than your usual small town place. They are using real spices, and the sauces do have some depth. As with most cheap Bangladeshi places, the meat is cooked separately, and added to the masala. Quality of meat is ok though. They are using fresh veggies (not frozen or tinned, like others often use). If needing a change from fish and chips, and fancy a curry in Swanage, go for this one. It’s not great at all, but with modest hopes, you will be satisfied

If you want an authentic great tasting indian cuisine look no further these are truly a credit to there culture im well travelled and this was on my door step try it you won't regret it 100 % can't fault it cost food friendliness

A group of 7 of us ordered a takeaway and were warned they were busy today. That said our food was ready on time. Popadoms and a good selection of dishes from the menu. King prawn saag, chicken korma, tandoori mixed grill to name a few. All the dishes were well cooked particularly the tandoori meats.

Nihal Spice at 69 High Street in Swanage is a rare gem. A large and varied menu of Asian dishes that will make your mouth water. All prepared fresh right in front of you by Bangladeshi chefs that really know how to create dishes that are full of flavour. I am a regular visitor to South East Asia and if I close my eyes the flavours and aromas transport me to Chulia Street in Georgetown, Penang, one of the world's great food destinations. I really cannot recommend Nihal Spice Highly enough!

We have just had a fantastic dinner at Nihal Spice. Although it would appear that the restaurant specialises in take aways we could not have been treated better. The proprietor and his staff we friendly and great with our children. The food was excellent, we had three different curries and some saag paneer and it was difficult to pick a favourite. It is a just shame that this place is not local to where we live. The restaurant is BYO which suited us just fine.

After getting fed up with fish and chips whilst on a family holiday to Swanage we all agreed on a curry.

After arriving later than anticipated to Swanage with my wife and 2 kids (son 12 & daughter 10) hungry and tired from the long journey. We set out to find some food and stumbled across Nihal Spice, a little bit bright and looked more of a takeaway than a restaurant BUT what great food, service and quality!! Best chicken dansak since I can remember...would recommend!! No booze though but can bring your own!! 5 stars all the way!

This small restaurant/takeaway is one of the best I have been to.The food was authentic and delicious, with large portions, and the price was spot on. Also, the waiters were smiley and helpful which was lovely. The mild dishes are quite sweet so do go for a spicier dish however I would definitely recommend going there if you are in Swanage.

Booked a meal for 8 with half an hours notice!

There was 12 of us and the fitted us in at an hours notice and I had the best chicken tikka masala I have ever had. Amazing place with amazing curry

Very polite , friendly guy on the desk, was able to sit 12 for 8:30 enquiring at 7. Curry was sublime, naan was especially good!!! The curry was top notch, service the same. Could not recommend this place more!!!

This place has now become my place of choice for a curry! I haven’t tried their buffet yet but have had many takeaways and they have been consistently good. Always fresh and tasty and much cheaper than other Indians in town. You can basically shave 30% off what you’d pay elsewhere and they give you free popadums unlike other places. My only suggestion for them to get even more ahead of the game is deliveries. No one else offers this and I’m sure it would be very popular with locals and tourists alike.

Food cooked while you wait. Or phone in orders. Wide menu. Friendly staff. Loved watching the skill of the chefs.

We have had the most wonderful night at Nihal. They could not have been more accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed watching our dinner being prepared before our eyes, and it was truly delicious, the best curry ever. Thank you for such a fine ending to our holidays.

Popped in during the Blues Festival, great host, great food, all freshly cooked. Unfortunately, the toilet lets the place down - it needs sorting out.

Been to swanage several times a year for past 20 years but never tried this place. So very pleased we did. Wonderful friendly service. Can seriously say best curry we have had in a very long time. Akboro chicken, lamb time and lamb pasanda worthy of special mention but the nan was top notch too. Faultless all round. Nice to be able to see kitchen and cooking. Clean. Will be back next time we are down in Swanage. Thank you Nihal Spice.

Visited for dinner last night after a little local research. Phoned in the order and picked it up 20 minutes later from the friendly staff

Very disappointing after reading good reviews ,the jalfrezy was ok if a little bland ,but the onion bhajis were even like boulders , couldn't barely cut into them , if only I had a chainsaw to hand .

The kitchen you see as you walk in promises much, with chefs at work amongst a range of flaming burners and shelves packed with spices. However our food was disappointing and - similar to so many curry restaurants that have lost their authenticity in order to cater to local palates - the dishes lacked spice and heat and were too creamy. If you like mild and creamy dishes you will enjoy the food so don’t let me put you off. Whilst technically you can dine in, I would suggest this is really a takeaway restaurant. The staff were very friendly and nice.

Take away, good nothing brilliant, BUT if you look at the menu it says 10% discount for orders over £15, what it doesn’t say CASH only, so a little bit up up set, as we live in Leicestershire with real Indian takeaways I lot to compare with.

We had a huge curry spread for a group of 8 of us and really enjoyed the food. Some of it was a little too sweet for our tastes, but on the whole good quality curry that was exactly what we wanted to take a break from fish and chips!

Absolutely love this place. We only moved to Swanage recently (all the way from Highcliffe - yes I know - miles....) and our top priority was finding a good Indian restaurant as it happens to be our favousite food. Abdul, the owner, made us really welcome from our first visit and we graduated from a takeaway to eating inside as he said we could bring our own wine as he isn't licensed to serve alcohol. What could be better? I'd say this is Indian cuisine at its best. Abdul's chefs will cook any combination you like - which as I'm veggie is a huge bonus as I usually get stuck with a bog standard and very boring combination of carrots, peas and potatoes in a non-descript sauce. They use fresh, whole spices and the food is cooked to order resulting in truly delicious dishes. And we've got to know them all now so it's like having dinner with friends. We've got an infulx of relatives coming to visit over the next few weeks and we will definitely be wheeling some of them into Nihal.

We visited the Nihal during a camping trip, and it was one of the best curries I’ve had in a long time. Although it looks to be mainly a takeaway, there are a few tables you can sit at inside. The service was quick and polite, and the kitchen is immediately behind the counter so you can see what’s going on. I had a Chicken Phindi, which was hot and very tasty, and others had tikka masala and korma () which apparently was nice too. Very reasonably priced and highly recommended. They don’t serve alcohol, which didn’t bother us, but maybe you could bring your own with you if necessary.

I have been using Nihal Spice for nearly ten years in Swanage and in Upton. The food is always first class and very authentic. Abdul and his family are wonderful too, they’ll do anything to help, they always make my dishes to my taste. Happy Eid to you all! Sarah.

We've had at least one meal a week from Nihal Spice since it opened and haven't been disappointed once which is some record. Tasty and individual spices stand out. If you ask they'll pice up some dishes normally tasty but a little bland for a jaded palate:) Loverly people too. All round win for us.

Wanted an Indian takeaway and after reading the reviews decided to give it a go. So pleased we did, friendly staff, great service and the good was amazing. I love spicy food and my Jalfrezi was perfect. Will certainly be using them again.

We've been visiting Swanage for years and always eat at Masala so it was good to see another option open on the high street. Food was fresh tasting with good flavours. Overall it lacked enough spice for our family although a couple of the specials had a bit of a 'kick'. The food is as good if not better than Masala and we would definitely order from here again.

Absolutely superb, I live in Swanage and used to travel to hamworthy to nihal spice to pick up the best curry in the area. When they opened in Swanage I thought it was Christmas.......superb curry, friendly and prompt service and we’ll priced......what’s not to like?

I use the take away regularly and it's always delicious and freshly cooked. In fact i may have one tonight!

This take away beats the established Indian restaurants in town. The selection is interesting and you can watch it being freshly prepared.

Have used this takeaway twice now and will definitely return. A few different dishes on the menu and quick and friendly service. Really generous portions and great flavours. Free popadums a nice touch too.

We recently had old friends visiting from Australia and one evening decided to have a Indian takeaway. I'm no relation to Scrooge but firstly I have to mention having watched my friend firstly be asked to go to a cash point, because the chap behind the counter said the card payment device was playing up pay for our treat and as we walked back home all I could think about was "I hope this is worth it" To be blunt it was worth about half of what my friend had been charged. In a nutshell all three / different curries tasted the same. Like sweet, sickly evaporated milk had been copiously added to the lot. Extremely disappointing and a terrible advert for take outs in Swanage.

We ordered a takeaway from here after finding that the local pubs were fully booked for dinner. Walked past it and decided to order from it, and boy, was it a great idea!

It was an absolute delight to discover this Indian takeaway - I can honestly say it is the best takeaway I have ever had. So often, Indian restaurants fail to live up to standards when it comes to takeaway, but not this one. Twice in a week, the food was delicious, generous, hot and very tasty. I enjoyed the pathia while my friend was delighted by the dansak. Poppadoms were also provided free of charge with a delicious dip and onion salad. The naan breads, again that so often disappoint with takeaway, were fresh and delicious. The portions were extremely generous and value for money superb, with a 10% discount for a spend of over £15. I only have the very highest of praise for Nihal Spice and I eat in many Indian restaurants, so have plenty to make comparison with. Congratulations Nihal Spice - when I return for our holiday next year, you will be the top of my list of places to return to. Exceptional.

I have been twice in the last month and both times I have been very pleased with my meal. The chefs were father and son (one then the other) and we're friendly to talk to. I spoke about the spices and he was happy to adapt the order to my taste. It is all cooked in front of you although I popped to the red lion for a pint whilst waiting.

Had two takeaways from here on my week's holiday. Lamb madras was old school - oily but tasty. The methi lamb was delicious. The meat was tender in both meals. Prices are actually cheaper than where I live, oop north.

The best indian takeaway in swanage by far, great value for money, good quality and lots of it. Half the price of other places in town.

Found the flyer in the Flat we were staying in so went for a meal, only to discover that it's only a takeaway! If I`d read the flyer properly I would have seen that! Anyway, ordered a meal and the service was prompt and very friendly. The food was very enjoyable and good price. I`ll use it again before we leave.

Just looking at the menu, you know you're in for a treat from this take-away. Nice range of specials, and a logical grouping of the dishes (by heat). Chicken Exotica and Naga chicken were both very good. Flavoursome and well-sized portions.

This takeaway was advertised at South Lychett Manor whilst we were staying in the Romany Caravans. We chose to drive to them to view the menu and place ourselves. I am a real spice lover and can honestly say that that was the most delicious Chicken Pathos I have ever tasted. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and would most certainly revisit and recommend on my next visit.

Me and My girlfriend always come here to get takeaway and the staff are always so friendly, especially the guy who runs it. And he/they are clearly very talented chefs! The food is cooked right in front of you and you can tell that they really know how to run a kitchen and all of the ingredients look as fresh as you can get, and they taste like it too. Its also a incredibly clean establishment. This indian takeaway is a step up from any other iv'e been to. It is by far the best in swanage and also by far the cheapest. CHECK IT OUUUUUUT!!! :)

I love a spicy curry and usually feel pretty safe ordering a Madras knowing it will give me a good burn. Unfortunately this was not the case here. Plus they forgot the chapati, probably a genuine mistake but I wasn't going back to get it in the rain.

Lovely tasty food, great choice of dishes all cooked fresh. We have been waiting for a good indian take away in Swanage and now we have it. We have had take away about a dozen times now, all different dishes and cannot fault it. Hot tasty and excellent customer service. Keep up the good work.

Although it has only been open a few months, I have used it four times now. The food has always been good with some interesting new dishes.

Worst take away I've ever had, was like bistro gravy not curry sauce, but bisto would have been nicer.
