Monsoon Indian Cuisine in Purbeck

Amazing food and service is always top tier! This place has recently became the go to and weekly travel over half an hour just due to the fact locals food not being on par 😬 The restaurant is always warm along with a warm welcome by the staff, the food is to die for and can highly recommend the duck! Farzana the waiter/bar maid is extremely polite, pretty and helpful with anything and everything we’ve ever needed! Couldn’t recommend enough and would put more stars if there was the option 😃

Love a takeaway from here, have been on a diet, so not had one for some time… had been craving my go-to prawn dhansak for over a week… and whilst the sauce was delicious (as always)… there were 9 small prawns in it… really disappointed 😞

Lots of sauce and chewy lamb. Not much rice for nearly £5. Third takeaway and disappointing again. I’ll try somewhere else next time I think.

Only popping through as our train was cancelled and didn’t even know this place existed. Had a curry and a naan in the bar. Woman was really bubbly and friendly which helped in the pouring rain! One of the perks was that I could sit and charge my phone. Thank you Monsoon

1st ever visit here while working in the area but won't be the last. Great flavours. I opted for the Early Weekday Takeaway deal. Available Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A starter, main dish, side dish and a rice or naan bread. £15.95pp. I went for the prawn puree (which was excellent), the lamb madras, bindi bhaji and a peshwari naan. All very tasty to be fair. The lamb was full of flavour, nice big chunks of it too and they aren't afraid to melt your testicles (or the equivalent) with the chilli, the way a good madras is supposed to be. The peshwari naan was up to scratch too, not stuffed full of sugar and overly sweet like a lot of places make it these days. They threw in a little mint sauce and some salad too, looking after their customers... love that... big thumbs up there. The only gripe for me (and where they lose that elusive 5th star) is the portion sizes... this maybe normal for the takeaway deal but if you look in my attached photos you can see the bindi bhaji didn't even fill half the container, the lamb madras was about half the container. My local takeaway always fills the tubs up to the top, thats what I'm used to and being the greedy pig I am, thats what I want.

Great food in a lovely, friendly restaurant .

The curry was perfectly ok. but the ratio of sauce to meat was very high compared to other places and whilst I do like my curries to be creamy, this was overkill and there was not enough meat. A bit average overall but the Peshwari Naan was very good and the staff were friendly

We were staying at a nearby holiday park and ordered a takeout for delivery. We got a call when the driver was on his way so we could pop to reception to pick it up. Friendly driver and delicious food. Will definitely use again if we came back here. Definitely recommended

We ordered take away last week, it cost just over £80.. I live in bovington, the Indiana has gotten disgraceful, so we decided to the monsoon. Food had lots of flavour, was very tasty, 2 out of 5 of us had lamb, it was so hard, tough as old boots so unfortunately wasn’t eaten, chicken was only slightly a bit dry but we ate it. The quality of the meat really let the food down.

Wanted a convenience meal after having a day out delivery was a 90 minute wait so did a click and collect, it fully reached and indeed exceeded our expectations.

Wow! If you love good Indian food and service to match you would be silly to miss this place. Book beforehand as it is very popular for eating in and out. Would love to return one day when we are next in Dorset.

Food was amazing would recommend to anyone around passing by. Was a skeptical at first as I was reading comments suggesting salt was not enough. I find this nonsense salt was fine, not really sure how much more you can ask for. Authentic taste

Absolutely delicious curry delivered to the campsite we were staying on. Arrived hot and fresh and we all enjoyed what we had.

When we (family of 3) went for dinner around 7 pm, we were told that they only allow reservation and no walk-ins. We thought we will come back after an hour after checking into our near by hotel but we were told that you need to book 1 day in advance. I was surprised because there was hardly 1 table occupied out of the 6-7 tables. I can understand the situation if it is very crowded. We were then asked to go for Take away. Considering this red flag, we decided to go to another restaurant. Further edit: Check the owner's response and you will get an idea about the restaurant.

Don’t judge a book by its cover! Unassuming from the outside but we found this restaurant on Google maps and the review were really good - they were spot on. Food is some of the best I’ve had and hailing from London I’ve had my fare share of options. It was fresh, fast, authentic and absolutely delicious. Atmosphere was very chill and relaxed. Staff were friendly. Great meal. Only complaint is that I wish it was closer to where I live!

Slightly out off Wareham but by the local station. Environment needs some attention but the food was excellent as was the service. Would definitely visit again when in the area

We love curry and have eaten in many restaurants, the monsoon is our local and we have had every curry off the menu over the years and have never been disappointed! The staff are super nice and we love eating in when we get the chance failing that they have a great delivery service that we use way to often 🙈

The staff was incredibly racist. They didn’t give us a seat and let another family take a table after us.they were racist despite being Indian themselves. This is something that made us wonder why too.

We spent £80 odd on Saturday, fairly fast pick up however half of us didn't finish our meal. Extremely hot / spicy for are usually a mild meal. Chicken / Lamb not cooked properly and the Naan bread was hard, small portions too. Disappointed.

Got a takeaway from here, friendly helpful service, food was fantastic and delivered in about 30 minutes, tried the chicken pakkora starter which was butterfly cut, chicken tikka starter, plain nan,chips and tandoori chicken main, would definitely use again and recommend.Went for a meal and we were met with a very friendly welcome from the young lady who gave a fantastic service, food once again was great. The place was nice and clean and would definitely recommend and I've been back several times and always fab.

Went to Monsoon with my family whilst staying in nearby Swanage. The staff, mainly a very nice lady, were very welcoming, friendly and attentive particularly to my young daughters. Food was very enjoyable. The poppadoms were served with the usual pickles including a tamarind sauce which I’ve not seen anywhere else. Onion bhargees were a great size. I had chicken achari which was just the right spice. Overall it was very enjoyable and we would happily return when back in the area.

We read the reviews and thought we would try Monsoon as we’ve felt our other local Indian take away has gone down hill recently. Well couldn’t be more disappointed with our decision. Ordered 3 chicken curries of varying flavours & the chicken in each dish was so dry and chewy you had to have a drink with each mouthful (think your mothers turkey at Christmas) the cost was £2 more per dish than the other local restaurant we usually use, but we though if it’s better, then it’s worth it! But it absolutely was not. korma has 0 flavour (before anyone jumps it’s meant to have flavour not spice) Sadly won’t be using again! Shame the Chef who won 2014 chef of the year isn’t there in 2023!

On holiday from east Midlands, staff very attentive and friendly, food was amazing and very tasty best Indian we've had,I've lots of Indian food in several restaurants around and monsoon as been the best. Value for money,portions just the right size and a amazing chef. Found that the lady who served us her father is the chef. Will definitely come again!!!!!!!

Anything less than a 5 star review is perplexing to me everytime I've been in I've only had lovely customer service and lovely food to match from people who make you feel very welcome the only reason the atmosphere wasn't a 5 was because it was later in the day I did my order and only 3 other people in the restraunt at the time but again this is perplexing given how nice the people and food are I hope more people catch on to this Indian restraunt and bar a give it a look especially when the weather is nice and you could literally just go for a cider in their garden

My husband and I stopped in on our way to catch the train and we are so glad we did! We hadn't booked, but were shown to a table by the lovely lady who turned out to be the daughter of the chef which is always nice. We started with poppadoms and dips and the tamarind dip (which was a new recipe to them) was unbelievably good! We then had the Chicken Hariyali and the Lamb Achari with a side of Tarka Dhal, chapatis and a garlic naan. I can safely say that this was one of the best meals we have had out in a long time! The food was exceptionally good and the service was spot on! It was a really warm night and the lovely lady found a table fan for us! The only thing that I would suggest to make this place perfect, would be a tidy up of the outside areas and entrance. Perfectly clean, but the outside is just not as welcoming as the food and the service deserves. Would definitely return when in the area!

From the moment we arrived, Farzana welcomed us with a friendly welcome and wonderful smile, Once seated at our table. She was an absolute delight, and so helpful. The food arrived quickly and was superb. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we all look forward to going back.

Firstly the staff could not have been more helpful, I had the Tandoori prawn tikka Sizzling version. The prawns came out of a tin and were tasteless most of the dish was onions, not worth £13.95 my wife had a vegetable masala which was to sweet.

Amazing food. The entrance was a bit shabby and could be improved. A young fella was serving us, he was fine, but probably quit inexperienced. Prices were fair.

Staying nearby on holiday, Googled places to eat and the monsoon came up, and even though it doesn't look to clever from outside, the food and service was excellent, even my fussy son, enjoyed his meal. Tasty food at good price 👍

Terrible experience! food cold and customer service is shocking

I have been to lots of Indian restaurants all over the country and this has been the best experience and nicest food I've ever had from an Indian. Friendly staff, restaurant was calm and not at all rowdy, free onsite parking was provided, pricing was fair and above all the food was delicious. We ordered a dopiaza, a kashmir and a pathia curry, with peshwari rice, garlic rice, samosas and garlic naan and the curries in particular were delicious. Fully intent on going back next time I am in the area.

We'd ordered food for 14 people. When the food arrived, there was no salt in any of the food that we ordered and for the bill we paid (~£200). I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. The food wasn't spicy either. There's a saying in India, if the food doesn't have enough salt, it is supposed to be in the bin and not on your plate. The restaurant suggests paying cash for a 10% discount in the bill.

Saw this place on Tripadvisor and decided to call in whilst we were near to Wareham for a few days. Not the best Indian meal I've ever had but wasnt bad, nice portions, and friendly staff

Popped in for a takeaway and wow was it delicious. Greeted with a lovely smile and made to feel welcome. Ordered a chicken Dansak with all the trimmings . Great value .

Just had a takeaway from Monsoon. Absolutely fantastic with really helpful staff. Wasn’t quite ready when I arrived to collect but when it arrived the lady was so apologetic. Worth the extra 10 minutes as was totally delicious.

We were staying nearby and decided to order a takeaway for collection. Quickly ordered and no problems here. There was a discount offered for cash and service was good. Collection the food was fine and the restaurant was easy to find. Here is the negatives, the currys ordered were the most bland I’ve ever eaten. The sauces seemed watered down and despite asking for a medium spice, it was bland.

As we South Indians, we couldn't find anything spicy!! So we all are disappointed by the food what we ordered

Came here whilst on holiday (our 2nd visit). The building a former pub looks a bit sad outside but inside is smart clean and inviting. The food is very good with plenty of flavour and the staff very pleasant. There is a well stocked bar and a good choice of food. We will visit again when next in the area!

Absolutely vile! I am not a fussy eater in the slightest but my god was this disgusting. This curry was not edible and we had throw it away as soon as we tried it. The curry's had no flavour, the chicken pakoras were like a lidl chicken nugget. The rice had half a pint of water in the container and the naan was like chewing on a bar of soap. This place should not be able to make money and sell food.

Had a last-minute delivery to a local caravan site last night and were impressed. Reasonably priced and good portions with loads of taste (the vindaloo was cheeky!).

Popped into here whilst on a business trip, greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, only a few tables taken but the phone was constantly ringing with telephone orders. Had a lovely lady and gentlemen serve us, very polite and attentive, nothing was too much trouble throughout the entire visit. Food was very good, tasty, hot, right amount of spice for what we ordered, tender and cooked very well. Definitely worth a visit!!

Three or four meals later and I am still saying it’s brilliant. The food is much better than the restaurants in Swanage, the staff are always very helpful and what else can I ask for? The loos are clean, which may be boring, but seems to be a good test for everything else nowadays. Bring an old pub it feels a bit odd, shape and decor wise, but I will keep coming back. Nothing to do with this place, but because it makes me smile….. The last time I got Indian food I had a slight problem with the bread. I told them not to worry though. It was a naan issue.

Having just finished our MacMillan Mighty Hike, the staff whipped up curries and beers in under 20mins so that we could make our train back to London!! Amazing job and very grateful.

I went here during my visit Durdle door. Great food with so much choice, including plenty of dishes I've never even seen before! Had a chicken tikka mushroom curry with onion rice on Monday for a birthday meal out and I could have eaten two! So delicious. The beer garden is particularly lovely and catches sun for hours!

We've been using the Monsoon for years now, never once have we had a bad meal. The staff are always happy and welcoming, the restaurant inside is modern and spotless and the curries are plentiful in variety and superb, as always!
