My family and I visited the pub as we had travelled a long way for the weekend and were hungry. There were signs inside and out of food that was on offer and set meals. When we went to place an order the landlady said the pub no longer serves food. Why keep up all the signage??

We visited The Newton twice this week whilst staying with family and friends at Caswell Bay. The landlord and his staff were very friendly when we arrived, having accommodated our party of 7 plus dog, at short notice. They offer good honest pub grub at very reasonable prices. The home made lasagne and pie of the day options come highly recommended. We also enjoyed curry night on Thursday. We ordered at the bar and both food and drinks were delivered to the table. No problems at all inside with the dog which was great. Highly recommended if you’re on holiday in the area and like no nonsense honest value friendly local pubs! D and T, Leicester

I'm new to the area (lived here for a year 😂) and to be fair it's always has been a nice local pub, although we do have to consider lockdown it has changed (understandly where here hasn't). The pub itself was fantastic and CV-19 rules are being followed, table service was mandatory and since the days Weatherspoons days I really something don't mind. Table service is amazing, it saves so much effort. What I don't want, is some "local" outside, while I'm having a cigarette and fresh air to hassle me when I'm going back inside. He did admit he was drunk but it's no excuse to grab me. Please keep an eye on your regulars pushing away new business, otherwise really good and the 4 star rating is worth it.

I went here for a few evening beers with a friend. The bar man looked put out that I had disturbed him, gruffly took our order and provided us with two drinks. The tables were ‘sticky’ with grime that had been rubbed around rather than wiped clean. The beer was very expensive and clearly had an issue with gas supply because it was terrible. But my big issue was a family sat with a young Visla dog on their lap, head and paws resting on a table where food would be served the next day. WHAT IS WRONG WITH HAVING A DOG FREE PLACE TO EAT IN SWANSEA? Anyway ... I won’t be going back despite the recent refurbishment this pub is going back to how it was with the previous owners .... and that was terrible !

The Newton is under new management after a couple of years of steady decline and there's a massive improvement already. The locals are starting to drift back after so many of them left due to the random and frequent closures of the last regime, not to mention the Fawlty Towers style rudeness. It's worth noting that the Facebook page titled 'The Newton Inn' is still under control of the last manageress who is busying herself deleting any positive comments about the new managers, so it's not really to be trusted at the moment if you want any information about the pub.Anyway, the Newton is back on its feet again and well worth returning to.

I hadn't read these reviews before our meal. We booked a table only because its advertised as dog friendly. When I arrived the manageress was extremely rude and told me the dog couldn't stay even though I'd booked with the manager. "He shouldn't have done it" was her response when he confirmed. There was no apology. It really spoilt the atmosphere initially. When the whole family arrived we made the best of it and the food was good. However extremely slow.....and the manageress served us through gritted teeth. I will not be returning to this place......unless she has a day off.

I visited on a wet Friday evening to try the food. I had read in the Swansea 'What's On' about the aspirations of the new landlords. The tables in the saloon bar were all reserved (a good sign) but I was invited to eat in the public bar. The furniture was very dowdy - but I understand the new landlords have plans to improve the interior of the place. I ordered one of the specials, which was a lamb cutlet. The only choice of vegetables was jacket potato or chips, with salad. I opted for the jacket potato. When the meal eventually came, the rather tough lamb was a struggle to cut with the knife provided, but the sauce to accompany it was delicious and lifted the meal. The baked potato and the salad were fine - if unimaginative. I might give it another chance sometime - but they'd need to raise their game to get my lasting custom.

We visit the Newton Inn regularly and have never been disappointed with our food. Whether it's a Sunday lunch or an evening meal, the food is consistently cooked to a high standard. It is all freshly cooked so sometimes there's a slight wait but we prefer to wait rather than be served processed fast food. Sunday lunch is the tops, always served with lovely vegetables, better than we've experienced anywhere else! We're very fortunate to have this as our local and long may it continue!!

If you want to wait an hour and twenty minutes to be served your pub grub, then this is the place for you. A long wait in a busy establishment can sometimes be forgiven if the staff are friendly and welcoming and it is the height of the season, however if it is a rainy October evening and you are the only people in the place and the staff disinterested then it can be extremely irritating. It´s not so much that the place is unfriendly, more that it is unwelcoming and the staff detached.

The Newton Inn used to be a great pub, we've eaten there several times in the past. Alas it is great no more. This visit, Sunday lunch time, was incredibly unpleasant. We found out on Saturday evening that friends had made a reservation for Sunday lunch. We wanted to join them so we called the pub several times on Saturday evening to change the reservation to a table for four and the phone was switched off. On Sunday morning we tried again with no success, so we decided to get to the pub early to make our request. The manager told us that she'd have to look in the book, then she left us standing at the bar, not asking if we wanted a drink, while she began polishing tables, this went on for some time. My husband and I were completely confused by her behaviour and stunned that we had to request a drink from her; there was no one serving behind the bar. Eventually she studied her reservations and told us we could have a table but we'd have to wait a short while (15 minutes longer). Great, thank you, we replied. We mentioned the phone being switched off and she told us she'd switched it off the night before because she was very busy, although it was now switched on (we told her it wasn't). To be honest she acted as if she was paying for our food rather than us. Then when we ordered, my husband, who has a stomach complaint, wanted to order just a started. This was not possible; she said she'd have to charge him a main meal price for it. Apparently there was a set menu and those were the rules, although we failed to see these rules on the blackboard and there were no individual menus available. We ordered three roast dinners and a main course size of the starter my husband wanted (he ate very little of it). We then proceeded to wait an hour for our meals. To be honest the pub was not as packed as the manager had implied and we could easily have been squeezed in. When the food came it was poor, utterly tastless; I couldn't tell if my meat was lamb and there was no mint in the mint sauce, it was merely sweetened vinegar. We didn't stint and bought plenty of drinks so she made money out of us. At the end of the meal I asked the hostess about her rule of charging main course prices for starters. I'd already explained my husband's dilemma to her earlier. She responded by saying that she'd been ripped-off too often in the past by people just ordering starters. When we suggested that in our case she could have made an exception - we are not spring chickens, my husband is 62 - she told us very rudely that she'd put herself out to accommodate us and if we didn't like her rules we could leave. Trust me, we will not be eating again at the Newton Inn. A manager with this attitude makes for poor enjoyment and digestion. We eat out very often and have never encountered her rules nor her poor attitude before. Thank goodness the Mumbles is awash with excellent places to eat!!

One of the few traditional pubs left in Mumbles and always a pleasure to visit. We've never had a bad meal there and the staff are always so pleasant. However, during the day time there is usually an older clientele who pop in to meet friends and have a chat over a meal and drinks, so is it recommended to play loud, inappropriate background music and sport on the telly while happy customers are trying to have a chat? Surely this can be tempered a little until the evening regulars arrive?

Called in a few time while shopping in the morfa, service is always slow due to lack of staff, tables always full of dirty trays, again due to lack of staff to clear them. Queue is always long and it’s always too warm in there. Prefer Morrisons cafe now.

Waiters/waitresses were really quick, polite, and orders all correct… however; one waitress treated me and my table disrespectfully and purposely served an incorrect order out of spite because she disliked my partner. When he arrived she proceeded to treat my table with disrespect. She didn’t speak, give eye contact, give the correct order, and overall was rude.
