This used to be a traditional pub but the heart and soul has been ripped out with blaring tvs showing sport, a variety of cheap fizzy lagers, only 2 real ales on tap. Looks like a Wetherspoons. The best thing was the staff who have now had to leave despite having a vision for this pub to make it a friendly pub with a food offer and regular music nights. Due to the way the landlord was treated we will not support this pub till Enterprise leaves

Always a good choice of ales here with an eclectic mix of regulars (which I used to be when I lived very close by). Papers to read if on own, or speak to the locals. Great beer garden and always found the food good too - but not eaten here for a few years. Can get very busy after work, but staff do there best.

I have been going to the Newhampton for over 10 years to eat and drink and wine he last couple of visits have made me not want to go back again. Food was poor , poorly served no garnish just about warmed up ! Guiness wasn’t even poorer correctly was flat. Attitude of staff is apauling, I used to work in a bar so I know the standards of what is expected and some of the staff are far from this. I’m disappointed this is the case and I hope that this review provokes a hanger for the better .

This place was recommend to us for a good meal, we never got to the ordering one one. On entering the smoke room we found a couple have a meal, we also noticed how dirty and aged it looked, we had a beer and left. It makes you think what is the condition of the kitchen if the dining area is like it was. This used to be one of the best pubs in Wolverhampton very sad to see it now.

First and foremost , would like to point out the incredible rudeness of members of staff. One member of staff dressed in a tracksuit annoyed me by asking my teenage sons for ID, this is understandable however they of course didnt have them and didn't have alcohol. However this member of staff persisted and told my sons to leave as they didnt have ID. Digraceful behavior , Especially as my eldest was indeed Eighteen . A grotty and cramped Pub with poorly mannered and unwelcoming staff and lack of seating. Absolute shitpile and I don't recommend it to anyone . Appalling .

I'm semi resident at this marvellous establishment and may well be very bias but for excellent and we'll founded reasons. The Newhampton is your answer to the eternal question 'which pub shall we go to tonight '??!! It's a proper boozer but with style and people who will easily become family within weeks. It's a hub of life for those that enjoy, a tranquil beer garden, home cooked food, live music, a fun game of pool, DJ's that actually play your requests and great beer. Meat was cooked to perfection so was the veg, no microwave cooking detected on any of the plates. Pork belly was amazing! We sat outside and the childern were free to play in a safe relaxing atmosphere really recommend it. We will definitely be visiting again. Not sure what the seating arrangements were like inside but outside wasn't cramped with a relaxed feeling and the choice of music was fab - only way it would have been better would have been a live band, which I believe happens regularly.

6 of us girls went to the Newhampton on Saturday afternoon for something to eat and a chat, one of my sisters goes regularly and recommended just about everything on the menu.It is a good old style pub that hasn't had the heart ripped out of it and replaced with uniform boredom! I had a pulled pork roll and chips, the pork was tender, the roll was soft and fresh and the chips were magnificent. The others all had something different from the menu and all of it was excellent. My only criticism would be that there is no car park but we know Whitmore Reans/West Park so we knew where to park.I am differently going again with my husband and will recommend it to friends. This is what a good pub SHOULD be like.

Prices have just gone up on all the food in the pub. Whilst it was possibly underpriced before, the jump has been quite steep. The menu is mainly burgers now, the food is largely very good.A little stingy on the chips sadly (which are great) and the food tonight took 1 hour 30 minutes which is pretty unreasonable no matter where you are eating. I also saw people who were served at the bar after me, brought food before me, which is pretty infuriating.Great beer, great food, but a super long wait, probably could do with hiring a few more staff.

Stopped in purely by chance for food on a rainy midweek evening , initial impression was of a suburban pub with character and one that is well supported by the locals . The welcome was pleasant enough , drinks obtained over the bar and food selected from a run of the mill pub menu .Regrettably the language of some ale drinkers was overly ripe , so we retired to a somewhat darkened lounge area - each table had an empty but wax crusted bottle on it , strange - either take them away or create some atmosphere and give the clients some much needed light ......The food was of good standard ,ample portions , hot , and quickly served . The waiter then asked if we needed anything else ? to which I responded 'ketchup , and another pint of beer please ' . Surprisingly the waiter said he would only order the beer ( perhaps a male in his mid 20's so it was not an age restriction issue ) . I started my meal , and watched as the pint was proudly placed on the bar , and left there . I carried on with my meal presuming that one of the 2-3 staff members would soon bring it over to the table , but after 5 minutes waiting this was obviously a step too far and I had to get it myself .Not a major issue , but it was the difference between an average and a good score. To rub salt in , whilst my beer was gently warming on the bar , the waiter served himself a meal and a drink , and proceeded to enjoy both on one to the tables opposite us .

The New H has been our local for over 10 years. Prices have always been high, but you never really minded paying it for the quality of the beer. And service was never it's strong point, but somehow you keep coming back. With its child friendly playground and the best chips and cobs in town, we and our friends have put a lot of money into it's tills over those years.Saying that, we were all quite excited at the prospect of some new owners, just to raise the standard of the service a bit. And to your credit the service was exceptional in the first few weeks. But sadly, you double booked our friends party and even had the nerve to run a public cocktail bar in the room that they had payed for. A tad greedy, although to be fair the cocktails we're very lovely. But that's beyond the point. The final straw I'm afraid came when visiting on my birthday. A great start. XXX Pale Ale on draught again, love that beer. But sadly the miserable service had returned. At least the kids could play in the playground. But unfortunately we found out the hard way your playground was full of piles of dog mess. Washing a child down after falling in some is not the way to find out. And not just one pile, your poor member of staff had to collect 6 piles of it. Never in 10+ years have we ever seen one on here, and according to friends it's not the first time.Sadly that is the end of it, even the verbal abuse from the local bowls players couldn't spoil it any more. That we are used to. I love some of your new thinking and new ideas, it is and should be a great pub, but forget the basics, and like us you will lose your regulars, something the new h has always managed not to do. Big question now is where do we take are money.

My last review of this pub was written in May 2014 and was based on several visits within the past 12-18 months. After a communication from the new owner indicating the issues I'd raised had been addressed now, I decided to give the place another go as I consider myself to be very fair and open minded. I'm so glad that I did. I have visited twice within the past fortnight (June 2014), once on a weekday evening and once on a weekend. Both times the service has been excellent, the staff friendly, and the food delicious. The first evening we visisted, my children were disappointed to see the play area fenced off for painting, but I was happy to see that it was getting a bit of a re-vamp. The beer garden too has had a change around with some new furniture, and generally looked much more cared for. We had an enjoyable visit and decided to go again when we had the time. This weekend we were fortunate enough to pop in for 'one' on Saturday evening, to find live music in the garden. We sat outside in the garden which now has gorgeous lights up for when the sun sets as well as little lanterns on every table, listening to the music and watching our children play on the newly decorated and barked play area. We ended up staying until late into the evening, and had an amazing night. I'm so glad I gave the place another chance, it was such a good night, we will definitely be back.

The beer is as good as ever (and as another review says, if you want rock bottom prices go to Weatherspoons). The staff are helpful and friendly. We ate there last night. Fish and chips was delicious and very nicely presented. Be warned, the vegetarian chilli is very spicy - but fine if you like that sort of thing! Perhaps they could do another vegetarian option? This is a minor grumble though. They're obviously making a real effort with the food. It was always good 'pub grub', but this was restaurant standard.

Always kept on visiting this pub despite the prices being pretty high for the area as the beer garden is lovely in the summer and the range of ales is pretty good. However, after waiting almost 15 minutes to get served on numerous occasions and then witnessing several drunken rows, members of staff are clearly not equipped to deal with busy periods or any issues and it put me off slightly. Gave it another chance recently but the service seems to have gotten worse if anything and the garden was largely taken up by people clearly smoking extra-curricular cigarettes if you catch my meaning. Staff knew this was occuring and did nothing. Not a problem to me, but I wouldn't take kids there anymore and its always been a family pub and has a great little play area for kids. Such a shame.

Classic old-fashioned pub but with some subtle modern touches. Sells a good variety of real ales and is a firm favourite with drinkers in Wolverhampton. The food is outstanding and reasonably priced. The beer is outstanding but expensively priced. Overall though it's a smashing pub and well worth a trip.

Great selection of beers, some basic bar meals. But the service has been getting worse, customers are treated as an inconvenience. Your not made to feel welcome and there are better pubs in the area.

What an excellent pub! Great variety of ale plus the Exmoor Gold was superb. If you want rock bottom beer prices go and drink in a Wetherspoons! The bar person was excellent and she even asked if I would like some water for the dog. £2.25 for a bowl of homemade chilli with a cob is excellent value for money. Clientelle varied and there was football on the telly, although its not your usual Sky Sports pub. I don't think I would come here for a meal but can't be beaten for pub snacks!

This is an attractive pub, distinguished by generous open fires and a beautiful garden with bowling green. Limited menu but excellent chips and good value. If you are not eating, though, the beer prices are eye-wateringly high. I don't know why this is, and it does put a lot of people off staying for more than one drink. Watch the measures too,. depending on who is pulling

Went here for lunch, the food was fresh and delicious and brought out promptly, 2.25 for a large cob and huge portion of home cooked chips-bargain. Excellent choice of Ales though due to driving I will have to explore this further another time, beer did seem a little expensive though but with food so cheap that offsets it a little. Friendly service relaxed atmosphere a proper traditional relaxed pub.

We visit the Newhampton now and again our visits are staggered and varied.Sometimes on a Friday evening 7:00 onwards - Saturday same times - Sunday afternoons - Saturday afternoons some match days and the odd day in the week. There is mixture of drinkers young/old also a varied culture and everyone seems to integrate happily. I have never witnessed violence or unruliness. The decor has a throw back to the Victorian/ Georgian era and at times you think you have travelled back in time as Its how a old type Boozer would have looked inside and out many years ago.The beverage prices are top heavy however this may be a good thing as it keeps a good clientele.I suspect the customers will obviously tolerate the high prices so that they can sup there ale In quality old fashioned characteristic surroundings amidst an array of sensible guzzlers from all walks of life.I believe the chips are cooked in lard and I must admit taste delicious. The menu Is limited however this keeps it tantalising as what's on offer is genuinely home cooked.Marks out of 10/8 This is because as a reviewer has pointed the staff can be offish and clicky with the locals and I have experienced this myself. This Is such a shame as It is a great old school pub which has stood the test of time and everyone should be treated equal.

We visited this pub as we were literally just passing. How we wished we hadn't bothered. Service? The place does not know the meaning of the word. The server at the bar was useless and got our order wrong twice, with no smile, let alone an apologetic smile! The drinks were overpriced and the food was abysmal. I had a BLT cob and chips. The chips were burnt and covered in flecks of old burnt food. The bacon on the stale cob was hard and tasteless. The pub was noisy and the decor was dated although the place was clean. Overall, it was awful and we won't be going back.

Hadnt been to the newhampton for about 3-4 years because of high beer prices. On a walk home from Wolverhampton town today I thought I'd have a nostalgic visit on a Friday lunchtime as i used to love doing years ago. Bearing in mind Friday lunchtmes used to be very busy, today hardley anyone in, The beer prices are still way too high £3.50 for a pint of local ale - er is it any wonder there's no one in. I also had a beef roll with a bit of salad, £5 for a beer and a roll??? is it any wonder pubs are closing. i dont think I'll be visiting again fo a long time - thats if its still open.

Me and my husband have been going to the Newhampton for some years. We always eat lunch there on Saturdays. My husband likes the real ale and I don't drink alcohol, so I have coffee and read the newspapers. I have to be honest, lately there is no atmosphere - the last time we were in I couldn't help overhearing swearing - not only from the customers, but staff also. I understand that many people swear, but I don't want to hear it in a public place. We sometimes take our Grand-children in, so I don't want them to hear this as well. The food used to be excellent, but is now very average. If you don't eat Chlli you're left with cobs or chips. I am not allowed to eat Chilli (health reasons). I understand in the week they serve hotpots - we are only able to go in on Saturdays! The actual pub is lovely. Well kept outdoor areas and nice staff (apart from the swearing!) I don't think that it's just me who feels that if you are not on your way to the football match, hence this being the nearest pub, you don't really matter!! A fwe years ago, you were lucky to get a seat on a Saturday ( packed on match day), but the old regulars don't come in any more.

One of Wolverhampton's best traditional pubs. A wide selection of ales available, as well as discount for any card carrying CAMRA members. Home cooked style food, including chips - there is often a 'hot pot' on the go which is great with bread to dip and your favourite beer alongside. The beer prices seem to have sadly gone up lately, which means I won't be drinking as much when I visit, but visit I must as the atmosphere is very good. A visit in winter sees two proper fires burning away, and Christmas there is usually a large tree by the stairway, and a plethora of traditional foil decorations adorning the ceiling. Outdoors is a boules green. The Newhampton also hosts a fortnightly folk music night, which is also worth the visit if this is your thing.

This is a cracking little pub in the heart of Whitmore Reans which I have used over the past 20 -30 years. I am not from the area but there is usually someone I know in there when I go and it's one of the few propper drinkers pubs left in Wolverhampton. They serve good beers and the usual bar food and snacks and the atmoshere is always good. However, on my last visit, the beer prices had gone up considerably and the same round of drinks for 4 people in the previous pub we visited that day was almost £4 cheaper.I don't know whether The Newhampton is a managed house or tennacy but it would seem that some of the tennancies in Wolvo are putting their beer up 50p or more than others. Sign of the times I guess but customers have a choice of where to spend their beer money and for me, I would think twice about going to the Newhampton because of the price of a pint!

Pubs like this are few and far between, I travel regularly between London and Wolverhampton and The Newhampton beats anywhere I've found so far in the capital. It has a wonderful selection of real ales from varying breweries (not just the usual range of Greene King rebadges...) and although I'm told they are expensive for Wolverhampton, frankly, compared to what I am used, to they are a breath of fresh air! There is aso a nice range of good pub grub including pies, cobs and an excellent burger all for less than three pounds! So the money you save on food can buy your beers. I cannot recommend this pub highly enough, I urge you go and visit the last of a dying breed: the proper British pub.
