The Hollybush in Wolverhampton

We had booked a table at the Hollybush Inn recently hoping to enjoy a nice meal out. Unfortunately upon arrival and despite Covid still being present our table of 4 was to be placed directly next to another occupied table when so many other tables were free.. Why would you do this? We hadn't even sat down and then told the number of items that wasn't available along with the decor of the pub which to be honest is not great in all honesty so decided not to stay to eat. Not a great first impression given that we have visited this pub a few years back and not impressed to be honest with the new look. We will not be visiting again based on this experience.

So I decided to take my family for a meal at the Holly Bush Penn Rd. I ordered a medium rare 10oz aged rump steak and my kids had a pepperoni pizza.The steak was presented dry and charred, it looked like it's been languishing at the bottom of a freezer for years, then microwaved and finished off on a grill.My steak had no flavour, smelt foul and really was the worst steak I've eaten in 40 years. The peppercorn sauce was curdled, thin and nasty.My kids pizza was full size with 5 silces of pepperoni, need I say more. Won't be eating here again, I would strongly reccomend you go elsewhere before wasting your money.Reading some of the other reviews I can't believe anyone has been happy with the food.

Great welcome from Becky on our visit to the Holly Bush Inn this week. Personal service, good food & value for money.

Prior to our arrival, I compiled a menu list for the family of over twenty members including children. On arrival, our area was ready and spacious, and the staff was very accommodating. The food was hot, lovely and very well presented, and we didn't have to wait too long for the next course. I would like to thank the staff for being very professional and helpful. Our family stated they would happily go back again for the next family event.

Food not up to much,one of the meals was that poor quality of food, this was changed for another meal that was just as bad, they thought they were doing us a favour by not charging us for those two, but honestly why would they expect to be paid for something not was not eaten due to the poor quality of the food. The other meals were also very underwhelming poor quality and tasteless, putting it on a big plate it was lost, for the life of me why anyone would put thin paper under fish and chips is ridiculous, you have to eat while trying not to eat paper which didn't happen, and to top it all off we were charged £1 70 for a glass of squash made up of warm tap water and ice, would definitely not recommend this place, having a new menu should be for the better unfortunately not in this case

We had a lovely time on Sunday and our waitress Mollie was delightful, we had lovely seats and puddings were an added nice treat to the day.

Had a really good night there, it was unbeatable, had a great waiter who was sweet and kind who had blonde hair, I wish I could remember her name because she was excellent, she looks a bit like molly mae

Was visiting family locally with the easing of Covid restrictions on today so decided to eat out, chose the Hollybush due to easy even after looking at other reviews but must say we glad we did, from the warm smiley welcome from Rach and being made to feel comfortable and safe even with the Covid lifting. We where Seated to our table and our drinks where served within 5 mins.Then we Order our food and I’m not going lie I’m very fussy with how my steak is cooked but it was cooked to perfection and the rest of our tables food all looked delicious and everyone said how lovely it was, hot and tasty. Beth then convinced us to have desserts which we did and those where just as delicious. Staff and food credit to your pub and to MarstonsThank you.

Can’t rate this so highly, staff attentive, Covid secure, Food was delicious best visit for food to a pub since being able to reopen and all this in a Saturday night. All the staff where happy in there work and atmosphere was good. Cocktails where outstanding also

Popped in with the family for an evening watching England play in their final game,we pre ordered a table which was right in front of a big TV ,staff met n greeted us at the door and showed us to our table,we all had a meal when we first arrived,hit our table within 15 minutes,was piping hot and there was plenty on the plate,every one of us cleared our plates and even decided to have a sweet lol. we had plenty to drink including nearly every cocktail they had on their drinks menu .staff were superd and very helpful.thank you for a wonderful evening ❤️

Comes highly recommended,pre booked a table,was met by some lovely staff.we had some fantastic food and plenty of drinks whilst watching England play in the final.we felt really comfortable as the place was very observant of the covid rules. Be back soon 👍

So I took the kids for dinner. Although the service was adequate the food was poor. The pizza was a joke. My son’s nachos were so spicy he had to ask for a glass of milk. The onion rings were obviously frozen. The two so called sirloin steaks were more like rump. As for the deserts. My sticky toffee pudding was more like a chocolate pudding from a tin. We were sat next to the staff entrance and toilets. I have been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years and this experience ranks up there as one of the most disappointing. After the tip I left you wouldn’t get much change out of a hundred pounds.

Fantastic meal again, worth the wait during these trying times. Will be back. Thank you to all the great staff who work here

It was so nice to meet with friends after the year we have all had.We decided to come hear and reserved a table. We arrived and after completing the Track & Trace we were shown our table. The pub was quite empty, so we were able to get our meals quickly.The good has improved here especially the presentation.Staff was very attentive and friendly. Please evening had and we look forward to visiting again soon.

Visited several times very unacomadating on arrival staff not helpful and abrupt. They seem to say that they are fully booked and 70% of tables empty. we walk 200meters to roebuck and we have no problems at all very pleasent staff.

Popped up Tuesday afternoon as I just fancied a nice cold pint as i hadn’t had a one for what seemed like years lol. staff seemed well trained up for these strange Covid-19 rules and dealt with me and my friend very professional. You could tell since the last time I visited the place had had plenty of TLC under lockdown and it looked very homely . Highly recommended

Popped in for a quick pint after work. Very friendly staff. Just what I needed after a long day. It was nice to be surrounded by a great atmosphere in the garden.

Myself and my partner decided to try out the breakfast which the Hollybush was advertising,I must say I’m hard to please so when I say their breakfast was worth it I meen it,food was nice and hot and everything was really tasty,their social distancing comforted me as everything was in place,staff were ver6 helpful and the place was nice and clean.

Welcomed safely, lovely food and really helpful staff. The lady that served us was Keiran sorry if apt it wrong. One way system. Plenty of room between us and other diners. Come here if you want good food and looking after well. Even just after lockdown, got vegan ice-cream!!

Fantastic service, social distancing adhered too clear one way system in use. Was very busy when we were there due to the 50% off but the staff handled it very well. Brilliant visit will definitely be returning

My wife's food was appalling, sent the 1st dish back, 2nd wasn't much better, but we had given up by then. Desert was still frozen. Very poor meal. Visited this resturaunt many times before, usually a lot better than this. Highly disappointed. Only reason it didn't get 1* is that our children's meals were edible.

Would easily recommend the Hollybush,staff went above n beyond to assure myself and my family were very safe whilst visiting there.we didn't have to wait long before our food arrived,was popping hot and for for the price there was plenty on the plates .we all had before burgers which were superb and the taste was pure quality.many thanks to Marstins for trying to give us some normality in these tender times .

Popped in to the Hollybush for something to eat ,nice to see how relaxed they made us feel when we first arrived,they found us a nice table with plenty of space and the food wasn’t long before it arrived on our table,nice n hot and plenty to get stuck into.would recommend especially for families . went to have a belated birthday meal. Greeted by Jon fantastic guy, put us completly at ease and showed us to our table. Brilliant idea with the menus. Son ordered burger and i ordered fish and chips. The food was outstanding, i cleared my plate which is unusual for me. My son loved his burger. All the staff were so friendly can not wait to go back

Came to hollybush first time since lock down in March to have a meal and chat with some my friends. Had turkey roast it was nice yummy thick gravy how I like it and rest was nice also. Had a lovely waitress who was our host never catch her name but she has glasses and face mask on sorry always willing to help any always check if we need top up on drinks etc keep it up the hard work definitely be back but think have some cheeky drinks next time how it's been awhile

First meal after lockdown, and what a meal it was! We were greeted by very friendly staff who accompanied us to our table while abiding to government guidelines. Our Waitress for the night was Hannah, who was really lovely and very nice to talk with. She was attentive and always asked whether we needed anymore drinks and how our food was. She gave great recommendations and was overall an amazing waitress and made our night!

Waited soooo long for a decent pint,popped into the Hollybush and my first pint didn’t touch the sides lol. Must say was nice to see all the COVID-19 restrictions in place and fair play to marstons as it wasn’t over constricted where you felt like a robot .THANK YOU FOR OPPENING

Been going here for a while. Varied menu. Lovely food. We really like the Pepsi Max with syrup machine. Been a bit disappointed that the machine isn't working quite often. Just mentioned that to Jon and he said wait a moment it might just need refilling and went and did it immediately. Added to our enjoyment a lot. Thank you Jon.

Popped in the the family for some food, as always greeted by some proper decent staff, nice to see nowadays.food came quickly and it was fantastic value for money, kids enjoyed there treats too. Wonderful experience at the Hollybush!! Drinks were reasonably priced and a lovely chilled and friendly atmosphere. Pizza was bostin!!!! Staff friendly especially Hannah she just makes you feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble the pub has a diamond there!!!!

Visited on the 7th March.Food was good so was the service.Hannah served us and was very friendly, pleasant and helpful.

We love to visit the Hollybush and weren’t disappointed this time. We were greeted by Hannah when we arrived and she always has a smile and a hug for our daughter. Hannah is always welcoming and keeps us coming back time and time again. We found a perfect table in the children’s section and the meal was spectacular, we had the meal deal option and were very impressed. Highly recommend Hannah and the Hollybush ❤️

1st time trying this place today and we will be back. Walked in got sat at a table straight away, staff was very polite and was a warm welcome.Got served at the bar straight away for drinks and food. Food was out within 15 mins and was cooked to perfection and hot! We chose the holly bush because we didnt have alot of money but WOW it really was value. 6 people fed and watered for 50 quid! Clean, warm and comfortable place and great for kids too as they have a play area. Special thanks to kate for the service and the chef jodi. Food and drink was very nice and the service was very pleasant. All of the starters and mains were promptly delivered. The service by Hannah was wonderful.

Lovely atmosphere. Pleasant and very friendly staff. Staff were so accommodating with charitable events. The food was absolutely delicious. Grilled fish and chips was a lovely healthy option. Great choice of vegetarian, vegan and desserts. My friends loved the new layout and we all really enjoyed our meals and the night. Children’s play area looked great too. We come here every year and will continue to do so. Dan and John are fantastic and welcoming managers. Would highly recommend this pub to all.

Visited this week with my family and were really impressed with the food and with the politeness and knowledge of staff member John, he helped us with suitable food for my daughter who has allergies.

Very nice staff much better than the last management also food was really nice and didn't wait too long either so we will be coming again 👌

I reviewed the Hollybush in September 2019 when I gave it a 5 star rating. I have since been back and it has now changed to bar ordering from waiter service, if you like waiting for 15 minutes at the bar to order your food and drinks then you will like it. If like me you expect the previous attentive and friendly service then don`t bother to go there. There is no welcome ,even though I booked a table,the tables were dirty and still had plates on them,the staff were scruffy and inattentive.Then there was the food !!!! We opted for our normal steak meal, which took half an hour to produce, it looked very nice except my wifes steak was so tough it was inedible.The waitress did ask if everything was ok and my wife pointed to her steak and said it was inedible and the waitress did get it changed.It arrived about 15 minutes later and this was marginally better but by this time I had finished my meal so my wife ate alone. I thought I might have another beer while I waited but when I saw the wait for orders I gave it a miss.The Hollybush used to be a friendly,slightly upmarket pub/restaurant now it has been turned into a rough unfriendly down market establishment. What on earth are Marstons doing ruining a once wonderful friendly and highly regarded place to eat and drink.

used to come in here all the time and the food, well it’s always been cheap and cheerful what can i say? but recently any service it offers has gone past the point of return. the food? worse than sublime. i’d say it’s only safe to have a meal you know has come from the freezer. the staff? well it’s as if there aren’t even any there. the service? ‘order at the bar’ is possibly one of the worst decisions they’ve ever made. i don’t think i’ve seen anyone clear a table of plates or glasses recently. nobody greets you at the door - it’s like a free-for-all. it’s such a shame how shocking this place has become. please do not give your money to this place. plus there’s a weird smell. very strange.

Come once a week here with the family every Wednesday pizzas for a £5 bargain and we always enjoy it, foods nice and staff are always friendly and helpful.

The hollybush is easily recommended by myself and my family ,we popped in again and decided we'd all have pizza,must say they were very yummy,they tasted really good and didn't scrimp on the toppings.the staff were really good and helpful.

I had the afternoon off and its been a couple of years since ou last visit here.The pub and restaurant are well decorated and warm and welcomingThe food was not good at all.Felt it was ll pre prepared - the vegetables not fresh but dark and rubbery, the pie was microwaved so soggy bottom.Not as we expected

So they allowed us to sit at a table for half an hour, order drinks but forget to tell us their roast dinners are SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY? Then upon leaving they say thank you for coming. Never going there again so you’re welcome. Rude staff. Shocking. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK.

We had booked a table for 16 guests at 5pm on Sunday Afternoon. We got seperated onto two seperate tables: We ordered £38 worth of drinks prior to ordering our food. We went up to the bar to order food to be told that they had ran out of roast dinners. We was eating out for my Nans 75th Birthday. We left after paying for our drinks with no offer of any sort of compensation. We will not be returning here again.

Absolutely appalled with this place. Who in their right mind would tell a party of 16 that who booked day’s before that they have ran out of roast dinners and we specified that’s what we was coming for! We sat down to the waitress saying do you want your food now or wait? Well thanks love but we didn’t even order the food as ‘Apparently’ they were sold out! Never have I known a genuine pub/ restaurant turn down 16 meals. We even spent £37 on drinks as no one let us know beforehand that they had no roasts left. No offer of a refund or anything.Do you think I will be returning? I’ll let you figure that one out

Just how bad can you get. It started when we walked in, now you just find a table... no one greets you like they used to... plus it’s now order at the bar... no service at the table...I went to the bar and ordered drinks, Which took ages as there were only a couple of people serving... I Went back to the table with the drinks and the menus and sat down. Took a sip of my lager...it was flat, however the wine was good but I guess it would be it’s out of a bottle. We looked around... there is now no special board, Just a menu and that was dog eared, greasy and covered in fingerprints. We decided what we wanted and I went up to the bar and ordered. We were told there was a long wait for food, Which was surprising as the place was half empty. I therefore ordered some tortilla chips, to keep us going...which took ages to come... and when they did, it was absolutely swimming in salsa and the chips had all gone soggy! I ordered a harissa burger, which they didn’t have, but I was then offered a Linda McCartney burger! An hour later the food arrived ... presentation, 2 out of 10. Quality of the food 2 out of 10. The chips on my plate were fine, on my wife’s, under cooked. To be quite frank it was dire. This is a pub we did eat regularly, and it’s simply gone downhill. I feel really sorry for the staff, this really is a management problem... no wonder it was half empty on a Friday night... by contrast we had already tried the two other pubs in walking distance and they were rammed with a long wait... in hindsight we should have waited. hope it’s fixed soon we would like our decent pub back

A basic plate of Turkey a few sprouts / carrots and some beetroot stuff and small square fried potatoes party size pigs in blankets plus totally bland watery 'gravy' no boiled or mashed potatoes or proper roasts told these were extras as was the cauliflower cheese! One look at the plate you would think it was for a small child, I am not a big eater but expected the full month for a christmas dinner, this was dire will not go again for xmas after several years of patronizing this place. I had a normal sunday lunch at the bradmore pub the following sunday for under a tenner was amazing.

Called in here over the Christmas on two occasions for a drink and was not overly impressed. Because I was not having food I felt that they did not want my business. Know better from now on.

Booked months in advance, first time eating out for Christmas dinner and was extremely disappointed.Starters were ok, but the main meal was awful.....2 slices of pre packed turkey, frozen carrots, peas, sprouts and red cabbage, 3 roast potatoes, 1 pig in blanket , slice of pre formed stuffing and that was it. Watery gravy, bland and very tasteless, no roast parsnips or mash, I’ve had better school dinners!!!!Puddings well less said the better.Staff were friendly and they were working hard, it wasn’t cheap at £45 each and I expected much better, won’t be going back any time soon.Will be back to cooking my own tasty dinner next year.

Myself,my partner and our 2 little unz spent the morning having breakfast with Santa and we absolutely loved it,to start the breakfast was well worth the money,they didn’t scrimp and it was good quality “NOSH”, as for Santa,he was sound,spent at least an hour or so with my 2 and with other children telling them Xmas stories & playing in the play area, they had a few photos “inc myself lol” they were giving wrapped Xmas chocolate gift. Well worth a morning out .THANK YOU

Booked a lunch for today05/12/19 I am more then pleased with the meal I had the gammon meal while my wife had a chicken and bacon salad with potatoes the food was promptly delivered only one problem they forgot the potatoes this was pointed out and rectified within minutes so not a major fault more of a hiccup the food was excellent and not expensive the service was brilliant thanks to all

Ive been coming to this pub for years and have seen the change of management dictate the happiness of customers and this time it’s not good. They have taken away the whole atmosphere of it being a restaurant which now makes it into a normal standard pub, which there are plenty of round this area. The same manager yet to find out his name, is constantly miserable walking around, and seems to think sporty trainers are professional in this line of work!!! Although that is the least of our concerns, when our visit on the 17th of November was ruined by cold food and a long wait at the bar, we decided we wouldn’t be returning here again until we heard significant changes, as we have only heard negatives since the change over was made. Hats off to the staff on the bar and the people bringing over the food as they were polite but looked worked to the ground!! A big rethink is needed!!!

I Never ever given a disappointing review ever until now but the Holly Bush have dropped the table service ,it's now just like any other pub were you order your food and drinks at the bar , nothing wrong with the food though.

Waited 20 minutes for drinks. When food arfrived the pies were soggy on one side and hard on the other making them inedible. Were given free puddings and discount off meals but would still not return to this pub. Very disappointing

Been useing the Hollybush for about 18 months since I moved near by,didn’t really think much of it as some of the staff seemed down-beat, last couple of weeks since it’s had new folks running it I’ve seen a big improvement,staff seem more happier,food seems to arrive a tad quicker and the overall place seems more organised.goto say a pizza and a hit the spot .WTG Marstons

Visiting with family, good selection on menu and loved having our order taken and beeing served at our table, very family friendly.

We were looking for a decent Sunday lunch, and dropped by on the off chance! We were greeted with a very warm welcome by a lady named Hannah, who was more than happy to seat us! It was lovely to see such a happy and helpful member of staff, she went above and behind to give us a great family experience! We will definitely be returning! Lovely staff and very good value for money!

So thought me and the girls would have a get together ... came for the ‘gin experience’ ! However to be told no fruit and sorry! Asked to speak to the manager gave a terrible attitude and said nothing we can do! Great customer service - I think not. Also asked which drinks are which - failed to get them right also!

Popped in for a Monday lunch and the pub was quite busy. We ordered a mixed grill and a chicken platter, which came in good time. For the price tag, nothing really wrong with the meals (although have had better) and overall a pleasant enough experience. Can see why this is a cheap and cheerful desination for many in the area with daily special deals during the week.

We had a family meal here and all had a great time.Food is delicious, and with a separate gluten free menu, everyone had a lot of choice with what to eat.The restaurant is clean, staff are friendly and food portions are generous as well as tasty.The sundaes are amazing!We were allowed to decorate the tables with balloons too, for the occasion.

We went for a family meal at the hollybush and while the food was good, the service was terrible. No service for an hour (not even drinks) while a nearby table arriving after us got served in no time. Eventually we gave up and ordered from the bar and even then they needed a reminder to bring out half the drinks. The food was great, no complaints there. Almost an hour after finishing nobody came to check if the food was OK or take the plates or take dessert order. Gave up in the end and paid at the bar because if we'd waited for the bill we'd probably still be there for breakfast.

I stopped using this pub for a while due to the poor quality of the food and the service.I recently decided to give it another try and wow how things have changed.I have been for a meal every week for the past 3 weeks and the food and service is now excellent. The steaks are lovely and tender, they melt in your mouth and the service is absolutely first class.Congratulations to whoever is now managing the Hollybush as it is now back to it,s original high standard.

It's been a few years since my last visit here so it was a pleasant surprise to see the new refurbishment. We were seated immediately and our waiter Chris was both welcoming and professional.We had the 3 courses for £9.99 and well worth the money. Starters Breaded Mushroom, Mains Scampi and Chips and Dessert Jam Roly Poly with Icecream (to die for).Will I be back, definately!!!

Recent family meal Food was poor, pretty much everything was overcooked:I had the roast chicken which was sooooo dry, the tiny amount of gravy could not save it.The Yorkshire Pud was dry and flakeyThe roast potatoes were hard on the outsideAnd the stuffing was an odd cube shape which must have been cut out of a larger block - was barely warm My partner had the mixed grill and that was only a slight improvement - steak tasted like they'd been put in a hot pot of water to cook, then put on the grill to finish them offReally disappointed as I'd had food from here once before, and it was far better.Yes we had a large order but no excuse for standards slipping so badly.Won't be coming back any time soon

Mi papillote de lubina no era en absoluto amable, nada era sazonada, muy seco y faltaba era una especie de salsa para ir con él y la mala calidad. Me puede cocinar algo mejor. Si estaba solo y pagamos £14,75 por lo que sería realmente disgustada. La hija de mi amigo tenía un pescado y patatas fritas de menú niños y fue asqueroso - duro y correosos. Nadie siquiera preguntó que cuál era el problema cuando recoger los platos cuando la mitad de los platos. No volveremos aquí para cualquier comida.

Went for lunch on a tuesday .Place was quite busy.Still 2 for 1.we both had the cajun salmon and enjoyed it.Good service.lovely waitress and friendly bar staff.Place was certainly a lot warmer than when we last visited.Have booked for the festive fayre at £25.00 for three courses for 2 people.Just seemed so much better than our last visit

I met my cousin for lunch, it was early and we were first in, staff were very welcoming, the young man behind the bar asked if we had had a good morning, we ordered oue food and it came out well presented, our burgers were tasty and cooked well, frozen chips well done as so often pubs serve them soggy. We were encouraged to have dessert against our better judgment, it seems our waiter was also a good salesman. Well done Hollybush.

This place been my local for around 10 years now since before trip advisor existed lol good place family friendly, staff are great always smiling and polite, in fact the staff are really good compared to other places, all staff work as if it's their own family run business, 2 for 1 is great nice and cheap, would have given this place 5 star but given 4 star as the time it takes to get food is quite long sumtimes but the more drunk u get the quicker it will seem lol too bad I don't drink so for me it seems forever at times lol quality of the food is ok standard pub food gets you full does the job, children play area for kids the arrangement of the pub is very good nice beer garden where dogs are welcome big car park but always full as popular location, average food wait time is around 30-40 minutes in the last 3 years

Visitamos para comer algo, el personal fue muy amable. Hay mucho espacio para sentarse y comer.

Visited often and loved it everyone, clean and plenty of high chairs, lots of choice on menu, also a specials board which I usually order from. Food is 2 for 1 so price is good too. Highly recommend for couples and family's too.

Llegué aproximadamente a las 2:30 pm en el hacia Hollybush el domingo 18 de octubre. Nos sentamos enseguida, nuestros pedidos de bebidas. Tuvimos que esperar otros 15 minutos para nuestra comida para ser ordenados. Tuvimos que esperar otros 45 minutos antes de que nuestra comida. Ni una vez cualquier miembro del personal vienen a nosotros para disculparse por la tardanza, o incluso cuando llegamos, podría haber dicho que había que esperar hasta una hora para la comida, que habría sido nuestra decisión luego de estancia o ir a otro lugar. La comida estaba muy bien una vez se haya recibido. Una de las camareras fui y me trajo algunos coliflor que yo había pedido.

Primera vez en hacia Hollybush anoche tras la recomendación de nuestra hija. Estaba un poco dudosa sobre pub grub haber tenido algunos desastres. Sin embargo, nos sorprendió gratamente, todo el personal era elegante y agradable, todo el lugar estaba limpia y sin mesas izquierda con montañas de platos, y no había comida en el suelo. La comida era excelente y Rachel nuestro camarero era un crédito no sólo al pub pero a toda la industria de la hospitalidad. Gracias por una noche agradable y excelente comida.

Ordered chicken breast in bbq sauce...Got what seemed like microwave chicken which was tough to cut...1 corn on cob...3 onion rings and a few chips..small pot of coleslaw..not worth £10.45...also ordered dessert a sundae... Which was one scoop of icecream and half a can of squirty cream...£4.00..forgot the two small flakes
