Amazing quality and amazing food .staff are amazing never had a bad meal

Visited this restaurant as we do like to support local businesses. We visited a couple of years ago, and now as it was under a different management we were keen to see how the place, if anything had changed. Service - we did a reservation prior to coming, but on arrival, we felt we may have been intruding. The 'bar man' wasn't sure of the booking, but said it was okay to come in ! Just 2 other tables were occupied. Restaurant - its now bland, and boring, a quick splash of white paint on the wall to freshen it up, no background music, no art work on the walls, no ambience. Service / Food Service was a little slow, even though restaurant not busy at all. Menu is varied but its become very expensive. What we chose as a main course turned out to be just a thick gloppy sauce over the meat. No vegetables as you would normally expect, (peppers, onions etc). Very greasy. Service was lacking the personal touch, no waiter coming over to ask if all was okay, did we want further drinks/ desert etc. We felt a little ignored. What was very evident was that the front door was propped open, making it very cold in the restaurant. This was to accommodate the walk ins for the takeaways. Takeaways were busy, and this was definitely the priority of the 'restaurant' What this place is forgetting is that it costs more to have a sit down meal, so we are paying more for food and drinks and would like to have some decent service. When we asked for the bill, after 15 minutes it was not forthcoming so we just got up to ask for the bill at the bar. We were asked to wait as they were busy serving their takeaway customers. No one asked how the meal was, did we have a nice time etc, again more interested in serving takeaways, even though we had spent nearly £60 on a 2 course meal with 1 alcoholic drink. This place needs to close the restaurant section and just be a takeaway. Would I recommend - no not really. Also waiter calling females 'love and deary' not acceptable, its patronising.

Will always order from Viceroy as our “Go To Indian Takeaway”. The food is absolutely beautiful. Always delivered hot, on time and with a friendly delivery driver. Well priced aswell for the portions you receive. I won’t ever order from anywhere else. Beautiful food and lovely service.

Staff very obliging and helpful. Quite a while since we have used this restaurant but will be returning back soon either for a sit down meal or takeaway.

Stopped for a takeaway on our way home as the reviews looked good. It was not good at all. The CTM was dyed bright red, really thick, like jam or porridge and very, very sweet. I have never seen or tasted Tikka Masala that colour and with such a weird texture. A tiny pot of creamy sauce was in the bag, that was tasteless too. I stirred it into the CTM but it did not improve the taste.The Korma also very sweet but with no flavour of anything, just bland. The 2 medium sauces for Lamb tasted OK but the one was just a pot of onions with hardly any sauce. The Dopiaza was the only decent sauce. It was really good. They did manage to cook plain rice and poppadoms that were edible. If I lived closer I would have taken the whole lot back and made them taste it. £30 wasted. While waiting, I tried to have a conversation with the man on the till and it was like talking to the wall. Zero interest in me and my questions about delivering curry. Try harder mate, especially as it was a Tuesday and there were just 2 people in there plus me. Horrible. Never again.

Food lovely and plentiful, in fact I had to take half of it home to have the next day, which is absolutely fine with me 😁 Naan bread was one of the nicest I've had in the local area. Restaurant is a little chilly so make sure you wear/take a jumper/cardigan that you can put on if you're cold.

Best lamb balti I’ve ever had and I’ve had alot around the world, honestly the best.

Went on a Sunday for buffet, nice selection of starters and salad chutneys ect ! Lovely Balti jalfrazi vegiarian option Bombay allo and lovely rice accompanied by nann bread , always have a very enjoyable evening here with wife thank you see you all soon Nige and Jan

Could not fully appreciate the atmosphere because we only had a take away. But will defo be going there for a sit meal soon. Food was fab and the service was on point

Rang at 18.35 to order food for delivery at 20.00. I rang 5 times as the food still hadn’t arrived by 20.35, was told the driver was there (he wasn’t) and that the would knock £10 off, I waited until 20.45 then rang to cancel the order. He told me they were very busy - which isn’t my problem when I rang 1.5 hours in advance. The driver then called me back saying they’d do it for half price, to which we advised we had already cancelled the order. He still wasn’t outside. Such a shame as I used to visit this Indian many times in the restaurant. Will never order from here again and will advise others to avoid.

Had a lovely early evening meal last Sat. Staff were attentive and friendly. Good selection of drinks and meals. The food was delicious. So much so that I'm thinking of having the same meal tonight (Special Biryani - opted for plain sauce) but this time a takeaway!

I'm love my Curry and I can definitely say this is the best around. I would recommend the Chicken madras, Lamb Rezzala, chicken tikka Dopiaza and the chicken tikka biryani is out of this world. Top quality food. Don't be shy and try the speciality dishes like the Hydabaddi chicken chilli massala. If you want the best look no further.

Curry’s were lovely. Pathia and Malaya. But the portion of Chips for £3.50 was pitiful. Best off getting them elsewhere on way home if picking up takeaway. Otherwise it was a lovely meal.

Beautiful food as always. Its the one place we always return to. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere. I've never had a bad meal from here. Tried a duck curry tonight and was impressed by how tender it was. The onion bhaji's can't be beaten either :)

Me and my family went to the vice Roy of India last night and it was such an enjoyable experience with the authentic India food. The service was excellent, our food came out very quick and it was very hot. It was nice too see that Sam is taking back in charge in the coming weeks he also told us that card payment is coming very soon.

The best Indian meal I've had in a long time and good service too. Highly recommended.

A friend and I went for the “buffet”, which is no longer a help yourself style buffet but actually a fixed price set menu, which isn’t as clear as it could be in terms of what you can have. The food, as ever, was really good, and we enjoyed it very much. However it took the gloss off the evening as grumpy Sam was even less friendly than usual. And there were mistakes. We didn’t get every dish we ordered and when my companion asked where the missing dish was she was told she didn’t order it (she did, I heard her). One of my sides didn’t arrive either but as the starters had been bigger portions than I expected and I didn’t think I would be able to eat it all, I didn’t push it any further. It took two attempts to get the glass of water. We got poppadums we didn’t ask for, so we ate them anyway. At the end of the meal, we had enough leftover food for another meal for one, so we asked if we could take it home. At which point we discovered that this is the only restaurant either of us have ever been to where we have been charged for containers to take food home rather than it being thrown away. We paid, but it really left a sour taste, and spoiled the evening out. It felt like a really mean thing to do. I know times are hard for hospitality but I would prefer to pay a little more for the meal and have a free container if I needed one. When it came to payment, which is cash only, the bill was put down in front of me very briefly then taken to the till so that the items could be rung up, and it wasn’t brought back. What should have been a lovely evening out with a friend I haven’t seen for a couple of years was spoiled by Sam's attitude. Well, I won’t be back, and I won’t be recommending it to any of my Airbnb guests in future either. And the few pennies saved on the provision of free foil takeaway containers has lost the restaurant quite a lot of pounds.

Our family came down for Christmas and made a last minute booking at the Viceroy for 8 people. Was welcomed by Sam and from the time we sat down to when we left, received the best service. Food and drink was presented promptly but most important was the food. We all ordered totally varied dishes but they were without question the most delicious Indian food we have tasted.

Says online open until 23:00. Tried to cal before going there and no answer on phone, walked in before 22:30 and door was unlocked and said they were closed when walking in. Either opening hours are incorrect online or may decide to close earlier depending on how busy they are, so worth calling before or going elsewhere, if you want a takeaway.

We have been and sat in, and then had to come up for takeaway as this place is the best we have had in years! Full of flavour, good portions. Good price. Amazing staff.

I used to eat here once a week when my late wife was alive, i now live 175miles away, so when i came up to her grave there was only one place to eat, best indian around. 10 out of 10

Came here last minute as we only live a street away, thought we’d treat ourselves as we never go out because of money problems, get greeted by a very rude man pointing at the cash only sign (we had already called to book) Asked him could he seat me when my boyfriend went to get the cash out.. We sat down and the server kept saying ‘that it’ ‘that it’ ‘that it’ My partner asked aw is this my girlfriends curry (had no peppers etc in it) and the other one did and he said no that’s yours, so conor was like oh normally I’m the one with the peppers because I like it hot, and she doesn’t and he said ‘should’ve picked a different curry then’ We had originally asked what certain curries for the menu were like and we had been told to read the discriptions on the menu!!!! My partner asked for another drink for me and the same man rolled his eyes So then my partner asked if there was an issue, and he followed by holding my partners shoulders shaking him and said ‘enjoy your food boy’ VERY VERY PATRONISING, especially as he is 25 and not a ‘boy’ It got to the point where it was very awkward and we had to leave without eating our food, and they continued to charge us the full amount, therefore we paid £60 for 4 popadoms, chicken pakora starter and a try of our curry… I am disgusted with this service, and it left my partner very upset and embarrassed which has made me even more angry! I will NEVER come here again, and if you want good service for what y oh are paying for I would advise never going here!

I hadn't been to this restaurant for some years, so when I found myself in Ystrad tonight thought I'd pop in with my son for a little treat. Restaurant was deserted, with just one other table occupied. I announced that we hadn't booked but could they accommodate a table for two - we were show to a table next to the toilets by the waiter. We were asked if we wanted drinks fairly quickly, which is where it started to feel a bit odd - My son asked about what lagers and ciders were available but the waiter directed all of his answers to me......odd...but not the end of the world. We ordered drinks, poppadoms, chutney tray and main course, sat back and waited. The drinks and the poppadoms arrived quickly and we tucked in straight away - all good - 5 minutes passed and the rather sullen waiter came up and announced our food was ready...not sure what he wanted us to do about it - given we'd only just started eating our poppadoms....never the less, we moved our food out of the way for the main course to be brought out. It then took a full 10 minutes to bring out the food......it all arriving in stages. I had to go and ask for the chips whilst the rest of the food was cooling. I'd understand if it was busy, but the guy serving us was stopping for a chat everytime he went past his colleague. When the naan's came out the colleague squuzed them and nodded before they were brought over - lovely to have had our food handled by both the chef in the kitchen, the waiter bringing out the food, and the colleague stood by the bar. We started to eat, food was good. Whilst I had finished mine and my son was still powering through his, the waiter came to clear the table - I find this extremely rude and bad practice - why would you clear away part of the table whilst one of the party were still eating??? In some respects I'd understand if they were busy, or if we were really slow - but there was still only one other table occupied, and we'd only been in there for about 30 minutes or so. I paid our bill at the bar, as it appeared the waiter was far too "busy" to come over after we'd finished our meal. Shame. Food was decent. Service was appauling.

A very enjoyable meal with a friend who normally will nt eat curry. I suggested a Lamb or Chicken Passanda, which is mild. He really enjoyed his meal, as I did mine which was suggested by Sam, the restaurant proprietor.

It’s a shame because the food was a good quality and was enjoyable once it arrived. The issue was the service, and mainly that it took 2 hours from arrival to serve the mains, and we had to prompt the staff to even order our mains. It is also not ideal that the restaurant cannot serve alcohol and doesn’t accept card payment, both for which we had to walk to the local SPAR to buy some drinks and take out cash.

Unfortunately, the 2hr wait the for food and lack of service/resource at the restaurant meant that a get together with work colleagues was not quite as good as it should've been. Food was lovely when it arrived... But took far too long. License issue meant that no Alcohol was able to be served as well... Many things needs to be improved.

Very poor service several dishes were not available and the waiter service took forever to take our full order.

Ate there Saturday night....the food was nice...but waited 25mins for a drink after arriving... and when he eventually did come to take our order he was the most rude and arrogant man I've ever encountered, when we left we said goodbye and he just blanked us. We will never go there again. Good luck if your going, your going to need it.

Paid £17.00 for a prawn curry with 4 prawns in. The keema naan had very little meat inside, after phoning to ask what had happened. The person on the phone hung up.

I’ve ordered your food from here Many times I’ve always ordered chicken Parthia I ask for it to be mild and they always say yes we do it mild most of the time it’s nice most the time it’s too spicy I phoned up this evening the lady answered at the front desk I asked for a chicken Parthia extra mild they told me I’m better off having something else I told her I don’t want nothing else and she got Asi and put the phone down on me if you wanna order from here Then it’s your prerogative but I think the attitude of the staff needs to be retrained and they need to think about all they are talking to at the end of the day we are the customers and without us they wouldn’t run a business I will never order from here again that’s it I’m done

The trouble with reviewing The Viceroy is that it's just the same old review each time........just excellent. Top quality food and menu choices, excellent service.

Waiting staff were great and helpful. The guy who was possibly the owner / manager wasn't impressed I was a solo diner. Told this was one of the best indian restutants around so had to give it a go. The frozen samosa starters were tasty but the chicken Curry was simply overcooked and bland. The best way to describe it was a over done stew. Real shame as the waiters were doing a great job apart from the chef and manager.

The food is always delicious! Cooked to a very high standard! I am a regular customer and always happy to have food from here!

Visited many times for the buffet on a Sunday but sadly, it seems to have gone downhill. The staff were miserable and we did not feel very welcome. Poor service and the food was nothing special. Will not be visiting again.
