Came here when staying nearby in Cardiff as we have a Vintage Inn we visit near home in Essex. A proper dog friendly pub with great food, super friendly staff, and a nice selection of food. Throughly recommend

Our lunch time meal at the Travellers Rest was outstanding. Fantastic venue, choice of menu and great atmosphere. I cannot thank Tania and her staff enough for the care and attention given to our party of 11. Accommodating the less able members, older members and baby in our party was swift and effortless; fire exit doors were opened to allow easy access and a high chair swiftly put in place. Service was excellent and the afternoon enjoyed by one and all. Lovely memories to treasure.

I recently visited Travellers Rest for a Sunday roast, and it was a great experience! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, perfect for a leisurely meal. The roast itself was lovely, nice meat, flavourful gravy, and all the classic sides done to perfection. Our server, Darren, was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, ensuring we had everything we needed. I can't recommend Travellers Rest enough for a cozy Sunday roast—great food and excellent service make it a must-visit!

The Traveller’s Rest, Thornhill - 5 Stars We absolutely love The Traveller’s Rest in Thornhill! Every visit has been fantastic, and our latest experience was no exception. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, with warm log fires and even blankets to make you feel right at home. The whole place is spotless, including the restrooms, and they’re dog-friendly too—our pup was delighted with the treats and water provided! Accessibility is well thought out here, with an easy entrance and plenty of accessible seating. The car park is spacious and conveniently close to the entrance, making it easy to get in and settled. For food, we ordered the Buttermilk Chicken Burger, Pie of the Day (ham hock in a cheesy sauce), and a kids’ meal with chicken nuggets, jelly, and ice cream, plus coffees—all of which were excellent! The kids were entertained with colouring sheets, which was a nice touch. The staff truly make this place stand out; they’re super friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. Nothing was too much effort for them, which made our experience all the more enjoyable. We always have the best time here and highly recommend a visit!

Great service, great food in a cosy atmosphere. Our server Lauren M was friendly and very accommodating. We turned up on a Friday night without a booking just me and my boyfriend and the staff were happy to help us out and sort a table for us. Food was great and lovely staff. Shoutout to Lauren M! A brilliant meal for 7ams a dog last night. Brilliant service from our server Darren, would highly recommend for anyone especially if your looking for a dog friendly place.

A very decent pub/restaurant. We were a party of seven with a dog, and had booked in advance. There were no delays, and no cold food. The staff were amazingly polite and friendly. Those of us who are relatively local will be coming again.

Disappointed with are meals fish under cooked fried eggs were like boiled eggs and was more veg than needed very disappointed and will definitely not go there again plus the price of food was why over priced

The gas house is comfortably furnished. The staff was friendly and quick. The table for two that was assigned to us was between the toilet entrance and the cash register. Actually no room for guests. The meals were freshly prepared and tasty.

Waited over 2 hours for food. Service diabolical would not recommend and then had to pay £18 for the pleasure. This was Saturday afternoon at 4lm and they couldn't cope.

Fab service today in the bar area (so sorry, didn’t catch the name, tall, white, bald and friendly !) he was lovely with all the kids at other tables and super kind- even came outside to find me as id left my sunglasses! Great food and drinks and lovely atmosphere .

Staff very attentive food gone down hill. Main criticism is the room temperature where we set was very cold. The two ladies we were with sat with there coats on all the time we were there.

Lisa (shift manager) refused to bring down the price of my shandy lager, and charged me for a full price pint because she had to 'do what the till said'. Very very disappointing as I've worked on a till and know you're just being a douche. Here's your 2 stars Lisa.

Stumbled upon this place whilst staying down the road. It was busy but staff found us a dog friendly table straight away. Service attentive and excellent. Food arrived quickly and was lovely. Unfortunately our dog vomited on the floor ( how embarrassing) but there was no fuss... and lovely staff offered to clear it up as we were still eating...we declined her kind offer

We all had excellent meals here and the Sunday roast was honestly the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant! The portion sizes are also very generous. The staff were all very friendly and polite and the whole atmosphere was perfect. I highly recommend!

Staff always warm and welcoming, service usually good. Food is decent, good variety but not always amazing flavours. (Not imaginative and sometimes a bit bland) Also, prices are about 20% over what I'd call value for money

Fantastic! Food was absolutely superb. First visit back for a few years and we won't leave it long before being back. Food was so fresh and beautifully homemade and presented. Served by Darren who was courteous, friendly and efficient. The restaurant was busy considering it was a midweek lunchtime but food was served quickly. Perfectly cooked. Can't speak highly enough. Thank you for a lovely meal. And, by the way, the trio of sorbets...oh my days. Just perfect. 💜❤️🤍

Best burger I've had in a long time and thick cut chips were excellent.😁😁. Wife enjoyed the pork belly and daughter king prawn skewers. Overall meals were a good size, well cooked and delicious. Cracking pub to sit outside as well.

Stopped by during our tour of the area and were mightily impressed. Quaint building but with plenty of parking space, indoor and outdoor seating and a lovely atmosphere. Good menu, too, very clean plus (most importantly) happy, friendly staff. Prices reasonable and an overall good experience.

Went for a drink and sat outside, area had not been cleaned properly, looked like for several days, there were tables that hadn't been cleared from when people had clearly had Sunday lunch,and we were there for about an hour,no staff came outside

Love coming here. Service is always friendly and professional, nothing is ever too much trouble. We like to try something different every time and the food has always been delicious. Opted for a few cocktails this time and they were all beautiful. Lovely patio area to dine in the sun too!

I had harissa skewers with chips and coleslaw, the chicken was dry. For £18 I thought it was expensive, the spice was extremely hot and the coleslaw was nothing to write home about. I then had a chocolate bomb which was essentially chocolate, and inside chocolate mousse and vanilla ice-cream with some coulis, biscuit crumb and edible flowers. Way overpriced for £9, I won't be running back that's for sure. My friend enjoyed his meal but agreed about my chicken being dry. Service was good, it was extremely quiet though

Food and service was exceptional and I never thought I’d say that about The Travellers Rest! The food was cooked and served to a very good standard….as a dog owner ( not that we brought our dogs on this occasion) I felt that the area accommodating the area for dogs only section, wasn’t that big and very near the front door..that could’ve been improved when they had the refurbish

Stop here for a roast on a rare Sunday off, and I wasn't disappointed. Starter of cheese garlic mushrooms followed by a vegetarian Wellington roast dinner. Both were plentiful, hot, and delicious 😋 Team who work here were all very friendly and efficient. Also a good selection of real ale

My first visit to this restaurant and I went with my mother, daughter and two young grandson's. We were warmly greeted and enjoyed a very friendly service from all the staff. A good choice of food on the menu and we all enjoyed our choices. It was a busy evening and the staff were very busy but kept a smile on their faces and had time for a quick chat each time they came to us. We sat indoors which is nicely decorated, noticing that the garden seating looked lovely too.

Fantastic outdoor area. Lovely welcoming staff, great food and drinks, cosy decor, absolutely everything was spot on. Will definitely return.
