Ok fish, not bad spring roll, but unfortunately the chips weren't fresh 😢😢😢 at £23.50 it should be right.

Highly recommended for Chinese, the pancake rolls are amazing.

Good portions, awful food! All food received was completely flavourless will not be using again, in future sticking with jade garden up the road.

Nice food, but do check what you get when you order. We were missing the duck pancakes and rice from our order so we were down by nearly £10.

WATCH IT IF YOU COMPLAIN AS I DID COMPLAIN ABOUT THE ORDER MADE BY THIS HARD OF HEARING GUY WITH A GRAY HEARING AID. HE HAS BAD ENGLISH UNDERSTANDING OF IT I HAD TO SAY MY ORDER 4 TIMES AT LEAST DID NOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH WOW SHOULD NOT BE SEARVING THE SECOUND TIME I SAW HIM & I SAID HED PUT THE ORDER IN WROUNG LAST TIME HE DID NOT LIKE IT. REVANGE HE BURNT MY DUCK NEVER GO IN AGAIN.

Fish was burnt and cold because they'd forgotten to cook the chips and left the fish on the side while they cooked them. The chips were very pale and only partially cooked. My husband ordered mushroom curry, when we got home we found that he'd been given chicken and mushroom- no use to him as he's vegetarian. Added to this the service was extremely slow. Needless to say, won't be bothering to go there again.

Purchased a large portion off chips. The chips were greasy and soggy which made them almost congile in to one large mass off potato grease.

I had previously used another takeaway in Wellington for many years whose food quality dropped dramatically. I discovered the New Orient and, I have to say the quality of the ingredients and the cooking is excellent. I would totally recommend this takeaway as it is excellent.

Sausages had a truck load of salt on like a road salter had crashed into the shop,fish was dry and chips were really poor ,this ain't the third world and we don't have to eat bad potatoes which weren't peeled or the rot removed ,very lazy ,had food poisoning for 3 days also

Twice I ordered roast chicken Chinese style it should come with grave but both times it was with sweet & sour and the second time it as beef not chicken . It’s was better when Mel owned it . THEY SHOULD STICK TO FISH & CHIPS as they’re the best in town

Had a Chinese from here last week and it was absolutely gorgeous! Best in Welly in my opinion. It was really busy but I can see why as the food is so lovely. Making me hungry thinking about it!!

I’m not sure this could be described as a restaurant as Iv never seen any seating. As far as cleanliness and food goes I recommend this place, tasty food and good portion size, with reasonable prices and friendly staff. We have tried other takeaway outlets and in Wellington and have found this one to be the best.

Hello, Can someone please send me the menu as I believe I have been overcharged for something I didn't order. I ordered 4 pieces of battered cod. 2 large portions of chips, sweet and sour sauce, curry sauce and a battered sausage. Thought it was a bit expensive but we don't usually treat ourselves to a takeaway so thought maybe the prices had gone up over the past few years.If there's anyone who could help us. Thankyou.

One star for location. Very disappointed with purchase 45 minutes ago. Chips were cold, and obviously not freshly cooked. No more custom from me.

Being going there for last 20 years when the previous owners were there. But still value for money and still the new staff are very polite,helpful and quick

I'd had a bit of good news so decided to celebrate by getting a takeaway. Lets get to the good bit first - the chips were amazing, lots of them all piping hot. Quite delicious, but oh boy, the roast chicken with gravy and peas was awful. I expected a quarter chicken piece, not the ghastly chunks of tasteless meat therein. The gravy was like nothing I'd ever tasted, and a teaspoon of peas drowned in it. There was no redeeming factor, so apart from the chips, the whole lot went into the bin. The place was incredibly busy so I can only assume the fish and chip side of the business must be good.

We have had take aways from here before but they seem to have gotten progressively worse recently. Our 1/4 duck had no meat on it it was so dry it went in the bin and the king prawn sweet and sour still had bits of shell and tail on. Definitely won’t bother again

We ordered food from here over the phone. Order was confirmed and presumably written down.Went to pick it up and asked to pay and was told that it was cash only, they don’t take card. Might have been useful to know that when ordering - so I had to go to a cash point and come back. Picked up the food, got home and discovered we had been given significantly less than we ordered.We phoned back and said that we had received an incorrect order and we would like to have the correct food delivered OR we would come and pick it up (not unreasonable?). One of the (apparently multiple) teenagers who work there answered and simply argued over the order with us and said we were wrong and had been given the correct food. This was thoroughly bizarre as I’d been sat next to my wife when she ordered it and heard them confirm it back to her (????)I had to take the whole lot back and explain to the counter staff.Now this is where I’m a little annoyed. No apology was made for getting the order wrong, or for the fact that I had to drive all the way back to prove it, without a receipt because they didn’t give me one. I had to pay extra to get the order corrected and was huffed at and treated with borderline contempt as if I was a major inconvenience the entire time. Sure perhaps it isn’t handy to have to recook part of an order (I could have asked for the whole lot to be replaced fresh!!) but it was clear they took the order done wrong and besides....surely it’s normal to say (even if you’re not in the wrong) I’m sorry you’ve had this experience give me 5 minutes I’ll get this sorted for you, instead of huffing and rolling your eyes....what the?!when I had the temerity to ask for a receipt for my order (in case it was wrong again) o was again tutted and huffed at - by this point I was somewhat irritated (no sh*t!) so just stood in the crowded shop and waited for my receipt.I even had to ask them to put the existing food in a warm place while the correct part was cooked so it didn’t get cold. Who needs to be prompted to do that?!Even when I left, the bag was shoved at me and no apology was made for any of the experience...I even think they still charged me for the sauces which we didn’t even want. So whatever....it was £3 and they were busy at the time, not the appropriate time to cause a scene and wail about how awful they were.Essentially the purpose of my review here is to share that I had a nice meal but awful service. It’s not to say don’t go there. The food was acceptable (not outstanding, but perfectly edible) and not overly expensive either, but if you do patronise this establishment don’t expect top quality customer service, and if they get your order wrong I hope you’re an easy going person.I’m someone who picks my battles and arguing with a crew of petulant teenagers in a fish and chip shop isn’t on my list of fun activities - I personally wont go back here after my experience, perhaps others will give it a try and don’t let me discourage you, however I’m told there are better alternative options in the town who also deliver.Overall, a disappointing experience due to the staffs poor attitude to reasonable paying customers.Don’t care how busy you are, serve people with decorum and respect, and DON’T huff and roll your eyes at them!!

Lovely Chinese meal and chips. Very large portion sizes, would use again if we are in the area again.

On holiday about 6 miles away and needed a takeaway. Checked trip advisor and plumped on this place. Staff were cheery and pleasant unlike a lot of Chinese places I'm used to. Surroundings were basic but clean so no problems. Easy ordering and waited for the dishes to be cooked up. Mrs had special fried rice and HK style S&S chicken. I had special chow mein and crispy shredded beef. I undertook a Colin McRae rally drive through the lanes and meals were still piping hot. I must say the portions are large and we're having to save half of our meals for a meal again tomorrow. If you're a glutton you won't mind the portion size. Im Looking forward to my 'seconds' tomorrow. All in all thumbs up and would happily visit again. The bill was £22.50 which is average I reckon and we got decent sized meals for that unless you're an animal and could scoff those portions.

Best chip shop in the UK! the batter on the sausage is just the best! and the chips...never known a chip shop to cook such nice chips! come here every Saturday night with my granddad and will never stop coming here!

We always use this take-away compared to others in town. Portions are generous, well cooked and tasty. Fish and chips also very good. They are open lunch times Tues - Sat 12-2pm and evenings from 5.30pm - 10pm. Sunday 5.30pm - 9.30pm.

Went here tonight i ordered chow mein chips and curry sauce. The chow mein was extremely bland and the noodles was mushy. The curry sauce tasted like washing up liquid i dont usually use this place but thought i would give it a go as my usual is closed. I certainly wont be returning to waste more money for the food to go in the bin. Avoid at all costs.

This used to be a lovely family owned Chinese restaurant. Sadly as we found out Mei has now sold out and moved away and the new owners have let the place go. The food is below average, service is slow and the food was cold. Great shame as we used to come here a lot but having now tried it twice under the new owners we won't be wasting any more of our time or money.

Great fish and chips, our favourite chinese takeaway. Good choice of other takeaway foods. Love the Lemon Chicken and Shredded Crispy Beef.

So, back in December I praised the New Orient for being consistent and great value. Well, guess what......we won't be going there again.

Some Wellington eateries are frustratingly inconsistent in the quality of food they sell but their can't be said of the New Orient. If you go early evening, especially Friday or Saturday, expect a wait because they will be busy and queueing out the door.

This is by far the best chinese for miles, the quality and quantity is fantastic, you should phone your order in as the shop gets very busy

we have recently moved to the area and fancied a Chinese takeaway, we were recommended to go to the New Orient, what a excellent recommendation, the food was one of the best Chinese meals we have had. Phoned the order through, when we got there, there was a queue out of the door ( always a good sign ). The order was ready on time, the portions were really large and the quality was fantastic.
