we visited sunday evening for my sons birthday, nice friendly greeting, there was plenty of choice on the menu, most of us chose the roast dinners which were lovely and all the meals were good portions, all seven of us really enjoyed our meals from starters to desserts, the pub was busy with a nice atmosphere, staff were very polite and attentive and the manager was also front of house and very pleasant we thought overall it all very nice and good value for money, we would recommend and return

Booked in for Sunday lunch and we wasn't disappointed. On arrival we was greeted by the very friendly manager who advise our table wasn't quiet ready. He apologised and we were led to a table by the bar for pre meal drinks. We wasn't waiting long and he showed us to our table again apologising for our delay. Our whole meal was delicious the beef was served to perfection I had mine pink my partner well done. The staff were all friendly and welcoming which made our visit a very pleasant one. 10/10 too all the staff! We will be back.

Love the food here, as regulars we eat here maybe once a week and love variety of offerings from the chef. Tonight for a change we tried the prawn and fish curry and it was absolutely beautiful, the place aren’t stingy on portions so we couldn’t finish the food but it was wonderful, in 3 years it’s never let us down. It’s our go to for Sunday lunch and we often bring our family over here from Leeds. The owner is such a nice bloke, always happy to see you and nothing is ever too much to ask!

We visited this venue last night to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The first time our family had been together for 8 months, so was a really special occasion. We weren’t disappointed. We had a variety of meals and desserts, some small portions and some full portion and they were all superb. We had one vegan who chose the curry and said it was delicious. The service was attentive, but not overpowering, can’t praise this place enough. We shall definitely be back

Decided to try as heard great reviews and it’s years since we last went. Busy spot, and waitress said they were short staffed and apologised for the wait (which wasn’t long at all) but I was just grateful they fitted us in last min. The food was delicious! Literally couldn’t find anything wrong with it. The staff were rushed off their feet, but couldn’t do enough for us and always had a smile on their faces. 10/10. Will definitely be returning.

Myself, my husband and 2 friends had dinner here on Thursday evening and we just had a perfect evening. As always we were welcomed warmly, served immediately and had a lovely seat in the window. Starters came quickly and were piping hot and all the 3 courses were cooked to absolute perfection. Our lovely waitress, who has been there for years, as always, was just fab and nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were friendly and bubbly and there was a lovely atmosphere. We could not have had a better evening and we cannot wait to go again. If you want good, fresh, homecooked food, you will not find better. The food here is consistently delicious. The only thing that was missing was Lee, the owner lol. It was his night off. Thanks a million to all the staff at The New Inn for such a fabulous evening and gorgeous food and a special thankyou to the lovely, bubbly, friendly waitress who took photos of us. They are great thankyou!

We visited on a Thursday lunchtime in February. I couldn’t believe how busy it was. As I am Dairy Intolerant I found it very difficult to choose a starter. In the end one of the staff rang the chef, who was not working at lunchtime, to ask if there was milk in the soup of the day.

I wanted to take my dad out for lunch before I went back to Spain & wanted a nice view. This pub was recommended by my sister. I rang the day before to book a table in the window to see the view. I was told that it was near the door but I said that was ok. When we turned up someone was sat at our table only to be told that wasn’t our table. We were shown to a table with no view. The waitress said they didn’t want us to be cold!! Lots more excuses came.. they don’t reserve those tables as they are “ for walk ins” this wasn’t explained when I booked, you should have booked earlier… So basically don’t book as walk in’s are given the best tables. Nothing was done to resolve our disappointment & if I’d known the area we would have left & gone elsewhere.

It was okay. Just that - okay nothing special Went for a meal with my two girls and ordered fish and chips. Food was lovely but felt the sharing of chips a bit odd even tho we ordered separate fish and chips per person. Waitresses took a while to clear our table too, they cleared the ones around us but missed ours so had to go to the bar to ask for them to clear as took ages. Then daughter wanted ice cream, so again had to go to the bar or ask for desert menu. I didn’t mind but felt they couldn’t be bothered with our table - it was me and my two girls. Definitely didn’t need feel the need to tip but they add their own surcharge anyway which I believe is non negotiable. Also, unsure if they cater around wheelchair users. My mum in a wheelchair and not sure if I’d be able to take her doesn’t look access friendly.

Myself, my husband, daughter & son visited here yesterday for mothers day and it was just perfect from start to finish. We always get a warm welcome from the host and the staff and they cannot do enough for you. Nothing is too much trouble. The food was gorgeous, piping hot, fresh and tasty and you never have to wait long for it. We all had the Sunday dinner and it was divine. The desserts are so good that my husband ended up having 2 sticky toffee puddings with custard and they are generous portions. The Baileys cheesecake and chocolate brownie were just absolutely gorgeous too. The drinks are very fairly priced and the Pinot Grigio is excellent, not overpriced like a lot of pubs and restaurants these days. My husband and son commented how good the Morretti on draught tasted. Everything is always consistently good here. You can guarantee it will be perfect everytime you visit. A lovely added touch was the fabulous log fire, which was on yesterday. If the weather is good we would usually be outside as the views are stunning. We just love this place! The food was absolutely outstanding, mix of homemade pate, bao buns with hoisin duck (gorgeous) then steak and ale pie and duo of pork - all home cooked to perfection I cannot recommend enough. My only little comment was that the pub was very cold and we did tell the landlord for which he apologised - we weren’t the only ones sat in coats. Considering there is a charge for ‘utilities’ which I totally understand I would expect to be warm and comfortable to enjoy our meal.

Booked table and requested a booth.Rang day before to check booking and staff member confirmed we had a booth, when we arrived there were no booths available so we were disappointed. Even more so as tge table we were sat at was squashed into a corner You couldn't have your chair comfortable out as there were traffic of people walking past to other tables and it was opposite the bar.It was also very draughty. After not 5 minutes of sitting down a booth became available then 25 minutes later a couple came in and took the booth which is for 4 people!!. Whilst we appreciate that it is not a given for a specific table, had it not been confirmed on the phone the day before it wouldn't have been so disappointing. Apart from this the food we were served was good and the staff were pleasant.

Poor experience at this pub with misleading pricing on the 2 for £22 menu. The offer included a shin beef pie and gammon in the 2 for £22 but we were charged £26 for both items because my wife chose the smaller size pie however there was no reference to this on the offer menu so we were charged £4 more because we ordered a smaller meal! This was discussed with manager who completely refused to amend the bill. The food was ok but the managers refusal to do the right thing spoiled the evening.

Early evening we asked if we could book a table and were given a 19.30 slot. Food was ordered and quickly brought to our table. Excellent meals enjoyed by my wife and I. Friendly staff and a well organised and safe (in these days of Corvid) pub. We decided once we had eaten that a second night might be a good idea. We spoke to the manager and she said that us staying a second night was fine. Love this place. Went on 8th March for a late lunch - 3 adults, 2 teens. Brilliant. reserved table, met and shown to table, asked re drinks whilst we looked at menu. Weren't hurried and given time to choose. Order taken and served in no time at all. I can honestly say the best 'Lamb Henry' I have ever had, served with mash and seasonal veg. The meat was moist, well cooked and a really good size portion. One other member of our party also had the 'Lamb Henry' and had the same opinion as myself. The third adult had the gammon, which he said was delicious, one teenager had fish and chips (always a good bet) nice white fish, nice chips, and the second teen settled for a beefburger and trimmings which looked (and she said) tasted wonderful. The service was quick, efficient and the waiters were polite. Couldn't ask for a better lunch, will definitely be going back again, by the way, no one could manage a sweet, although they all looked marvelous, we were all too full. We have been to The New Inn before, and will certainly go again.

I had long wanted to visit this pub situated superbly on a hill affording great views over Halifax and the moorland beyond as I had heard so many positive comments about it and I wasn't disappointed. My friend and I were seeking good food at an affordable price in a warm and welcoming atmosphere after a bracing walk around nearby Scammonden Dam and the New Inn at Sowood ticked all of those boxes and a few more beside. We took advantage of the early bird specials of two courses for £12.50 though if we'd have been up to completing another lap of the dam we may well have opted for the 3 course deal at £17 but 2 courses were ideally sufficient to satisfy our appetites while the food was excellent throughout and was served at just the right time.My friend, normally a soup type of person, decided to sample the Homemade Yorkshire Pudding starter served with deliciously rich onion gravy and it was a decision he did not regret as he voted it a massive success.I opted for the Homemade Chicken Liver & Brandy Pate accompanied by Caramilised Onions along with a warm tin loaf which was tasty in the extreme. For the main course we both resisted the tempting 6 other options on the menu to plump for the Shortcrust Meat & Potato Pie. I had tasty chips, served separately on a plate while my friend asked for and was granted a plate of creamy mash despite it not showing on the menu. The pie was delicious with tasty chunks of meat accompanied by small portions of delightful potatoes bathing in tasty brown gravy while there was an extra serving of gravy for those, like me and my friend, who cannot get enough of the delicacy. With a pair of non alcoholic drinks the bill for two came to less than £30 which was entirely reasonable given the quality and quantity of what we had sampled. There are plenty of tables and quiet alcoves to enjoy the food and drink but pride of place must go to the rear of the pub overlooking the car park which affords stunning views over Calderdale and beyond which I would suggest makes for a great dining experience at a pub which I am now glad I have added to my list of unmissable places to dine at.

Food was fairly prompt in arrival and delicious - I had the Yorkshire pud starter followed by gammon steak. Everybody else enjoyed their food - only poor mention was the mother in law's soup arriving on the cold side, but this was quickly rectified. Have to mention the landlord taking our little 2 year old to feed the cows across the road when she got a little bored and fidgety. Unpleased with our experience here, I went for the early bird option, supposedly 2 courses for £12 so I ordered the soup which was tasteless and then a pie which has rock hard pastry. When we went to pay the bill we wondered why we had been overcharged for the early bird, so we questioned it and the waitress said we didn’t clarify the pie being “small” when we did mention to her whilst ordering we wanted the early bird option. When we told her this she shrugged and apologised yet didn’t correct our bill. For the sake of £10 we just paid it but we won’t be returning. Very unprofessional.

We have visited this pub twice in the last two weeks as we liked it that much on our first visit. The pub is your traditional local with welcoming staff and great home cooked food.It has a terrace with great views over looking the country side and a large car park. The menu is the usual pub standards with a few specials. The food is freshly cooked so there is a bit of a wait but it is worth it.The food is of good quality and full of flavour. Last time we both had the Cod loin wrapped in parma ham with asparagus on a bed of pea puree special that was cooked to perfection. The deserts are a bit limited but still very good and decent sized portions. The food is excellent value for the quality and would highly recommend this pub not just for the food and drink but also for the friendly welcome and atmosphere.I would suggest booking a table at weekends as it is very popular.

Never knew this place existed even though I was born and brought up in Slaithwaite, even worked as a part-time taxi driver in the 70's and never even been on that road. Have I been missing out. Driving onto the car park you get a tremendous view of miles and miles of Gods country. Inside sat at a table with the same view. As it happened it was Saturday afternoon which is obviously a dead period as it wasn't busy and there's an early bird menu 12-6pm. Limited menu on it but we went for it. Wife had haddock guojons with tartare sauce (2 generous sized goujons) starter which she said were delicious. I had Panko coated belly pork with hoisin sauce and (raw) vegetable salad. Delicious and surprisingly substantial. These were served about 10mins after ordering. About 10mins later main courses served. My wife had gammon which she said was the best piece of gammon she has ever eaten. I had meat and potato pie with chips, mushy peas(choice of garden peas is offered) and extra gravy. Chips were more a mixture of chunky chips, potato wedges and small roast potatoes, beautiful. Had to agree when she said that she hadn't enjoyed a meal out so much for years. Nice mix of posher than average and proper pub food. Loved it. £24 for 4 courses of that quality I consider a bargain.

Visited this very welcoming Inn for a birthday lunch. We were a mixed age party including children, nothing was to much trouble meals ordered with a minimum of fuss starters for some mains and sweets for others, the food couldn't be faulted five star and great amusement at candles in the sweet of "birthday boy". Thank you to all concerned for a very special lunch.

We didn’t book a table but the staff were great and accommodating. We sat outside having a beer and taking in the spectacular views, and the entertaining lambs jumping around in the fields. We had garlic mushrooms & homemade soup. For mains pork belly & homemade pie. The food was delicious, there was a brilliant atmosphere and the staff and owner couldn’t have been nicer. Excellent customer service, excellent food, we will definitely be visiting more often.

Lovely Inn with truly outstanding views across the valley. Charming service by friendly staff. This was a Monday teatime visit and also happened to be Steak night! The temptation was too much to resist together with a free bottle of wine. The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection and had that lovely chargrilled crust to them. The flavour was amazing. The chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle...Yummy. I wholeheartedly recommend the New Inn. A nice relaxed atmosphere in pleasant surroundings. Not our first visit and certainly won't be our last.

I called in on a Tuesday evening for dinner and although the pub/restaurant was very busy I was soon sorted with a table- I would recommend that you book though- as It looks to be a really popular place to eat.

Called Saturday evening with three friends and had a reasonable meal despite my steak being cremated again! Service good and staff pleasant but the unpleasant surprise came later when I asked to see the bill that was paid by one of our friends. I noticed a 'bar bill' for nearly eighteen pounds that was for three pints of Taylors a sparkling water and a lime and lemon - very expensive by Yorkshire standards so keep an eye on what you drink there!

We called for an early evening meal before heading elsewhere, we had reserved a table and got a good spot with views of the valleys below. As it was Valentine's Day, the specials menu reflected that with some good reasonably priced choices, we were also given the main menu and made aware of the steak night menu which included a bottle of wine free. We skipped starters, and from the steak menu I had a sirloin, my wife had the gammon. The accompaniments were good, egg and pineapple with the gammon, and we had mushrooms, tomatoes, onion ring, peas and proper chips. The wine that came free with the steak menu was not to our tastes but the server changed it without a fuss to something else. The food was well cooked and well seasoned, the portion sizes were good, we didn't have room for puddings and could not get through all the chips. When we had finished, the server went to great efforts to get us a taxi for our onwards journey. Overall a good dining experience, with excellent service. We will definitely return.

This is a lovely pub with great food. They have a special most days 2 course 10 pds 3 course 13 pds. On this special the main is a smaller portion but enough especially if you have had a starter. Worth a visit

Visited with the Mrs for lunch while staying nearby for a night. It was lunchtime and very busy but we got the last table. All staff were excellent, our drinks were brought over with menus. We both ordered steaks. 10oz for me and 5oz for the wife. They were cooked beautifully and with the chips and herb/garlic sauce were soon cleaned up. It's a lovely pub, very homely and warming. We'll be back next time.

I visit several times a year and normally have the fish and chips. I went with 2 friends in December and ordered my usual fish and chips. the batter on the fish was probably the best I have ever had, but the chips, if they could be called that were terrrible, in fact we left half of them. They looked like they had found some old potatoes cut them in to lumps and fried them. You could see the discolouration after frying. I was suffering from a cold so did not have the energy and will to complain. I shall go back as and when and give it another chance as it has always been alright in the past, but if I am served up with the so called chips again I will never go back

Just had lunch here. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The food though wasn’t quite up to scratch. They used to do proper twice cooked chips but now they’re just unappetising frozen ones. The steak salad bowl again was bland with no dressing and a chunk of bread and 2 packets of butter but no side plate!!

Had a reasonable lunch here. Can’t find anything to really set this place apart from others, very much a county pub type place serving decent but not outstanding food. I think they’ve found their level and should continue with it. The only disappointment from a few at the table was the Sunday roast with the meat being a bit stringy but other dishes from the menu were fine. Staff were very pleasant and service was a decent pace but not rushed. For me sits on the list of places to return when you can’t think of anywhere else and just want an easy no frills meal.

We have been a few times to dine at the New Inn with it having a good recommendation. Our recent visit was on Sat 30th September 2017 and it was very disappointing. The food was very dry and tasteless and they were minute portions for the price of the meal also one meal was missing some food and when pointed out we were told it was not missing but it plainly said on the menu it came with the accompliant food. The serve apart from the missing food item was good but unfortunately we will not be returning. It was a very disappointing and a waste of money.

We had the small breakfast which included tea. Good size teapot full and used tea leaves which you never see nowadays. Breakfast was good, the sausage had never seen small lol. Very good value for money. We had one small issue which was addressed immediately which, in my view, is the main thing so I havent deducted anything. The pub has been in the family for years and years before that a different pub. Lovely friendly welcome. Hidden gem but worth hunting out.
