We called the week before and Val was amazing with accepting our reservation for 31 people for Sunday lunch. We sat outside and the waiters were fab - a real credit to the pub. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. Puds were excellent too. 31 happy campers left feeling fat and full and sure to return (maybe not all at the same time - poor Val!) again soon. Thank you for everything

We were really disappointed that after a really long walk, we’d planned to have lunch here, but sadly it was closed. Beware that Trip Advisor says it’s open for lunch, but it’s not! To be fair, if you look on the pub’s website, you’ll see that, in fact it is closed. We returned for an evening meal and had a hearty meal.

We visited on a Tuesday night for a family meal. Our daughters had the homemade lasagne with salad and garlic bread. My husband and I shared the seafood platter. The platter was delicious with a wide variety of both hot and cold fresh seafood. Incredibly good value given the generous amount of food. The pub was busy with plenty of people there to eat and drink. It was easy to book online and we were glad we’d made a reservation. Can’t recommend this authentic pub enough. Another reason to love Eype!

Not enough positive words in the English language to do this establishment justice! If you are in the area, you MUST pay a visit!

Booked The New Inn a couple of weeks before the May 17th lifting of indoor restrictions. Not our first choice but availability at other places had gone very quickly. Family coming to visit & my wife's birthday. Very busy Bank Holiday weekend with superb weather didn't help the difficulty of parking in the tiny car park, but we ensured that we didn't block any other cars in and made a point of telling staff that we would be more than happy to move the car should anyone have problems leaving. Service friendly, food typical pub grub but apart from one overdone pudding was fine. Busy place. Then a staff member came and asked if a particular car was ours, which it was & then we were spun a yarn about how a customer had phoned them to say he had struck the car on leaving the car park. Why didn't he stop at the time and speak to us? I wonder! Anyway we gave details to the staff who would give them to this other guy when he phoned later and he would then phone us, which of course he never has. A load of nonsense of course, he was obviously worried about being over the limit or had no insurance & we didn't believe a word we were being told. So, beware! We won't be going back

Lovely roasties, leek and broccoli cheese, cabbage, green beans and carrots as veg, served in a separate container. Apple sauce for the pork, and Yorkshire pudding. Home cooked gravy completed the meal and the whole thing was delicious. Happy to recommend and we will visit in person soon.

What a find ! Felt very secure and safe visiting here as the new owners ( who are really lovely people ) are adhering strictly to latest Covid rules and regs. Staff are friendly and efficient and the menu is excellent. The chef definitely knows what he’s doing. We had steak and venison dinners on Friday night and a Sunday roast today - all first class meals, very generous helpings, couldn’t fault a thing - and the home made puddings are to die for. Real comfort food in a cosy, welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. If you’re staying in this area, make sure you pay this pub a visit, it’s well worth it. We have been coming to the pub frequently over the years when we’ve stayed in Eype and always stayed late having a great time with locals and owners but this is the first time I’ve not been so happy with the overall experience I’m afraid ..I booked for my partners birthday and I think they forgot they’d promised a special effort for him as was told at the door just to sit anywhere :-( ... decided to sit outside, their were old leaves everywhere and the tables and surrounding needed a good clean down sticky probably from the tress which wouldn’t take long to do before service started There only appeared to be one serving who was stressed it was obvious to see as you forget to enjoy the job and ask the basics ... condiments and extra drinks and double checking everything’s ok etc Inside definitely needs a revamp and having the lights on so bright just highlights some issues and clutter .. and a tired look The saving grace was the barman who did seem to be good with rapport building more, efficient and good customer service skills! Please invest in some extra time to see what the customer sees ... right at the back of the garden there are glasses and bottles near the plant pots from the night before and the menus would be better paper to throw away and individual condiments now all due to Covid 19 .. sorry hoping next visit goes better

The owners were really welcoming people and worked incredibly hard to make sure everything was of a high standard . Food wise excellent fresh home cooked foods . Particularly good was the fish and chips and the sea bass. If you can manage it you must try the sticky toffee pudding it was the best I’ve ever eaten . They’ve now started to do pizzas . Popped in for lunch and surprised to see new tenants who were very accommodating. On previous visits I have praised the quality of the food and this visit was no exception. Much comes from local produces including Downhouse Farm and just shows how important it is to have good quality produce (you can't make a silk purse from a sows ear) Menu was varied and reasonably priced and the beer well kept. Only one minor thing that in my opinion needs refinement and that is the presentation. Looking forward to my next visit.

Starters were great but it all went downhill from there. Owners new to the establishment and they just didn’t seem to have their priorities right. Young waitress’s incessantly chewing gum which was very off putting. Mains took more than an hour to arrive and the chicken and bacon on my salad was stone cold. What was most disappointing however was the ‘chicken and ham pie’ from the specials board. I have to say I was concerned when the landlady said she’d ‘just had another pie in, chicken ham and leek’ which not only insinuated the pie was bought in, but as it turns out, meant that the two chicken and ham pies we ordered both had leek. Whether there were two pies or the special was incorrectly advertised I don’t know but my mum would not have ordered it with leek. The table across from us had kicked off about their wait and accuracy of their order and the landlady said she would personally cook their mains so raising the issue just seemed too much when they were already crumbling.

Very small car park about 6 cars. But you are in the country in an extremely small village. Very charming welcoming young lady behind the very clean bar. Instant atmosphere with people already seated ( we arrived just after opening time at 6 pm ) children enjoying them selves. I instantly thought I’m going to enjoy this pub. Small choice on menu but I like that. Not that small as you are stuck for choice though. It points to freshly cooked meals. I ordered hunters chicken. I have to say it was very enjoyable . The chicken was moist the bacon cooked just right. The sauce not over powering. The salad was fresh. The chips were perfect with the right quantity. The beer was very drinkable. The pub was clean tidy and although could be said seating to be close together that added to the atmosphere. The food came within reasonable time and we was asked if everything was ok. I would class this as a hidden gem. My only fear would be if this pub became popular. Great for the owners not so good to get a table. Well done the owners for turning this pub around.

Whilst staying in the area, we visited the pub because we had been there before. We discovered that new people had taken over the running of the pub and received a warm and friendly welcome on entering. The food was excellent and well presented and we received great service. The pub is nestled in the quiet village of Eype and has a lovely ambience. Parking is a bit limited, but we've always managed to find a space. Would certainly recommend a visit

Ignore any old reviews. The pub is brighter and there is a friendly welcoming atmosphere. Although Sarah and Steve have only been here for a few weeks they are already making a huge difference to everything about the pub. Looking forward to regular visits from now on. Ideal for a short stroll down from Highlands End campsite for food or just a drink. Dog friendly too. Today we both had the beef and Guinness hotpot, which was gorgeous and met the new chef who gave us a sample of a lovely onion and cider soup. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Eight of us had booked a table for May Bank Holiday lunch in this lovely pub in Eype. We were warmly welcomed and served drinks from a well stocked bar and shown to our table. There was a great menu and specials board and we ordered starters and main. Food was served promptly by a great team.

We visited for lunch on a Sunday on the spur of the moment after viewing a nearby art exhibition and we were so pleased that we did. The garden has a mixture of shaded more exposed tables and a lovely view from the top level.

Our lunch group descended on Sarah, the brand new proprietor, and the 9 of us were immediately served with our drinks.I had a superb pint of Palmers 200, perfectly served, everyone else was happy with their drinks She was very welcoming and throughout our lunch, nothing was too much trouble and the service was excellent by all of the staff. We enjoyed our first drinks outside on the terrace at the back of the pub. Stunning views and weather added to our enjoyment of this place. The change of hands only happened a week before, so knowing the former pub that she ran, we are assured that this pub will thrive. There isn't a menu yet, so we ordered from a sandwich menu on the bar, or from an interesting specials board. We were unsure beforehand because the last few reports on this establishment have been very mixed.

I have been visiting this pub since over 40 years ago so looked forward to fulfilling my booking for dinner the Saturday before New Year . We arrived to find a disinterested bar tender and a less than smartly dressed person in a chef’s apron on the telephone. We were told to sit where we fancied and were then ignored. I gathered that we needed to look at the menu chalkboard and then order at the bar. When I approached the bar to ask if they had any vegetarian options as there were none advertised, I was told of two offerings and then mid sentence the bar person answered the telephone and just wandered off! We left. No way to treat visiting strangers on a winter’s night.

Had a meal for two in the bar last night, really good home made pie and Fish n Chips. Ample portion sizes, great quality and the pie was actually a really pie (none of that stew with a puff pastry lid rubbish). Sadly unable to sample the deserts (due to the portion size) but sure they would be amazing too...

Staying at a nearby holiday site we walked up to The New Inn. Staff extremely helpful ensuring I could get inside in my wheelchair by positioning a ramp for me. Little disappointed our first choice was not available but meals we had were beautiful - really tasty and enjoyed greatly. Friendly atmosphere and a pleasant evening.

Sadly did not live up to expectations. I guess it has changed hands The menu needs to describe what is offered clearly and accurately. The beer (Palmers from the brewery just down the road) was acceptable. I would suggest you walk from the coast path as parking is limited, and the Dorset lanes are as narrow as ever.

Beer included a few local brews, which were very pleasant. The ingredients for the food was mainly from the local farm and the quality was pretty good. If you go on a Saturday, do book. It gets busy. The rear garden has a lovely view for miles. Staff are friendly and dogs are welcome everywhere inside and out. No complaints at all and would visit next time I’m in the area

The good. Family/dog friendly. Lots of games on hand the play while you wait for food to arrive. The bad. Only here for one week so payed two visits. The staff seem to struggle at peak times. Waited over 1 hour 30 mins for food to arrive. The ugly. After being told that my first choice was unavailable, I took sometime to choose something else. I'm sure the young man who served me didn't realise I could see him rolling his eyes while I picked a back up of burger. One hour & 30 mins later it arrived. Looked ok. A little crispy upon first bite, so I opened it up. Looked fine on top, the cheese had been cooked to within an inch of its life but it looked okay. Turned it over to be presented with what could of easily passed as a substitute hoof for a horse it was so burnt. Two of us had the burger, some lucky horse out there could now be sporting some new shoes. The staff didn't seem to care & offered a practiced sorry for holiday makers. Customer service -10. Not worth the money go down to the smugglers inn in a bit nearer the beach.
