First visit for me to this very busy tearoom although my friend had been before. We stopped in for a quick lunch after visiting nearby Blackness Castle. The food was good although it could have been hotter as could the coffee. I had the beef and onion bridie and my friend had a ham and cheese French toast. Staff are very pleasant.

Great gift shop and tearoom although, me and my wife where aware of how changing staff makes it feel less welcoming and sad to not see a blonde female with glasses that we are usually greeted by. The tearoom dose its job but with rising prices and rude staff I think we will give lunch a miss next time. The food was okay but I would never go as far as professional it did the job.

This was our second visit here. As before, the food was good and the service was friendly and efficient. Although we arrived at a very busy time (a Saturday lunchtime in late May), we were served quickly and there was plenty of room for us to sit on the sunny terrace. I do have one minor complaint. The garden centre has a large car park with space for a vast number of cars, but there is not a single bike rack. This is despite it being close to the main cycle route (NCN 76) to and from Edinburgh. We had to chain our bikes to a fence, with risk of blocking a path - as did several other cycling visitors apparently.

Myself, my wife, sister and mum visited the tearoom for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite a pleasant experience. Sat at a nice table by the window whilst wife and sister went up to order and collect the food. We noticed on the way in that the food looked great and everything that we got tasted fine and was quite palatable. My one criticism would be the prices. I know from experience that garden centre cafes normally charge a premium for their food and drink, which I have never been able to work out why, and this place was no exception. Apart from that we had a rather nice lunch.

Hadn’t visited for a long time and dropped by for soup. Was absolutely delicious!! However, in Covid times, it was worrying to see no face coverings worn by staff behind the serving counter and no masks worn by staff clearing tables. All visitors had face coverings on when they moved about. Not a good message or much respect for visitors to the Orangery. We were surprised and disappointed.

We paid a second visit to the garden center with the intention of purchasing a large statue and a plinth. Total cost over £400. Tried to find a member of staff but that is impossible until we found a young lad unpacking boxes and he told us to go the the till point and speak to the 'chap with the beard'. My wife followed those instructions and did indeed find an individual at the tills that matched the description. She asked him if he was the person to speak to about statues, 'Might be' came the reply, she asked again and again the reply was 'maybe'! Shen then asked how would we go about ordering and arranging delivery, he replied just tell me what you want! Well, there are many, many statues on display so not sure how he would know which one we wanted. Ideally he would have suggested that he accompany my wife to the area where they were displayed and then he would know exactly what we wanted but he made no effort to help her. Complete lack of customer care and a very un-smart member of staff as he instantly lost a £400+ sale and a 2 customers who will; never return to the garden center and will now only spread bad reviews. Big mistake.

Not sure where to start here, maybe they were having a bad day ! uncleared tables, staff arguing, questionable hygiene standards and a cheese roll that tasted older then me. The hygiene bit wasn’t good, member of staff handling money and then preparing rolls without washing her hands. Stopped in for tea and a sandwich ...absolutely awful! While the setting is lovely, with the bright, airy atrium looking out on to the garden, the tables are crammed in much too close for comfort ... manoeuvring through these with a full tray is very difficult. The tea was hot but my filled-roll was a disaster ...really unappetizing to look at. The slice of ham was completely overloaded, and I do mean overloaded, with grated cheese falling out all over the plate. Not only was the roll difficult to eat with cheese spilling out everywhere but the cheese completely overwhelmed the taste of the ham and the roll. Much less cheese and the addition of a slice of tomato and some lettuce would have been so much better. My husband’s egg salad roll was not much better, consisting mainly of mayonnaise. Not what one would expect for the prices charged ...so very disappointing! We will certainly not be eating there again. On the plus side the retail store is well stocked with an excellent variety of quality, but pricey, merchandise ...enjoyable to walk around.

Cheese sauce was split and really grainy, very unappetising, and two of us experienced a gob of solid cheese in amongst the pasta. Yuk. As it was a hot day we all wanted diet Coke or Pepsi but none was available - only orange drinks - although very strangely we later saw Coke on sale in the adjoining garden centre shop. We have passed by this place many times but we're always going somewhere. Today was a very intentional visit to check the place out and it really was a pleasure. The centre is full of great products at really reasonable and sensible prices compared to some garden centre/gift shops around. When we eventually got to The Orangery it was not too busy and we were served straight away pasta bake and a salad was the chosen dish and it was delicious the full portion was a real plateful. The other thing that impressed us was the fact that they use nice quality crockery and cutlery, I know it's a small point but it does make a difference. You get two cups of tea in a pot. We stopped here to have a casual lunch, firstly the place is very busy and popular. It is a serviced queue and the tendency was to buy everything at once, which can be complicated. The food itself was very good both opting for soup and and a vegetable (onion) tart which was delicious. After eating we decided to have a coffee, so I went to arrange this, finding a queue with a bottleneck before the coffee station I asked for 2 coffees, to be met with a disapproving countenance and a less than complimentary tone; "you'll have to go to the end of the queue." The queue was long, and I decided against it. We left uncoffeed. To be fair it is a reasonable quality for a cafe, and worth going, but perhaps the should brush up on discrete and pleasant ways to handle queue jumpers or sort the coffee station out to facilitate upsetting.

Staff are lovely but could have been a bit more helpful in assisting us find a table and perhaps even leading the way. When we were there the place was chock a block with OAP's who think its ok to stand and have a 5 min conversation with the till staff then pay the bill with every single coin they have in their purse which is slightly annoying.

I am not normally one to post reviews but I am still angry about my recent visit on Wednesday the 29th June. I was in around 11am as I have done before and I asked a member of staff for hot milk with my coffee she was so abrupt and rude about my request. I was so taken back! I have been here before and the regular staff were lovely and helpful but this foreign woman was so rude to me and other customers served after me. Its enough to put me off going back! Changed times in there its a shame.

I would think you would be coming here primarily to visit the garden centre ( and go to the farm shop further down at the bottom end of the car park ) as well as look at all the lovely gifts and bits and bobs they have - this is certainly the place to go to get something for a garden lover ( although even anybody who has a house !! - as lots of little things for indoors as well )

We took family here recently for a nose in the shop, potter around the garden centre, a bite to eat and a visit to the farm shop next door. I'm sure there are cheaper places, like some others mention in their reviews, but in our experience there was nothing wrong with the food and about £35 fed four adults and a child for lunch. I had the quiche with salad (a combination of lots of salads actually), which was really nice. There's so much to see in the shop and the garden centre is really nicely laid out. I was looking for a new bird feeder and was pleasantly surprised by the selection they had for sale. We only visit very occasionally, but we'll certainly continue doing so.

I am really not sure that this is a place to choose for a leisurely morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. Perhaps if you were desperate after shopping for plants or bark then maybe a drink would be ok. The food is average, although I had a horrible upset stomach within 20 mins of consuming and backed potato and coleslaw. The price was too expensive, over £20 for 2 coffee's a backed potato and a bowl of soup with a roll. It's not to be avoided but be aware that you may pay for more than you bargained.

It is a great location to meet and eat avoiding the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh with free parking great food and a lot of garden materials and gifts in the shop. If you are driving into Edinburgh to meet someone it is the one of the best locations to meet and avoid the traffic and lack of parking spaces in the city Centre.

Typical Garden Centre food, salads, quiches, couple of hot dishes, soup, baked potatoes. Difference lies in the quality. Excellent flavours and service. Well worth a vist although the plants etc are pricey. No alcohol!

The garden centre is very good for plants, shrubs, trees, bedding plants general garden items and rescue plants of which we have successfully rescued many over the years. The tea rooms which can be busy need to make up their minds as to what type of food they are able to offer on a consistent basis. The teas, coffee and scones are good. Freshly made bacon rolls are done too. The rest of the menu is hit and miss. Decide what you can offer and do it well would be my comment. The tables are close together so choice is limited for buggies/those with mobility issues.

Went to this garden centre on sat 27th Feb and while the garden centre is beautiful, the cafe is not up to the same standard.

Was recommended here as I am celiac and they have a gf menu. As we were unsure what time we would be going (prior commitment before hand) I did not book. We arrived at 2.45pm and there was a sign outside saying 'bookings only, no walk ins' This was NOT on their website. We went in and spoke to a female member of staff who advised exactly what the sign had said. I then spoke to a male member of staff and asked where on their website it stated what the sign said, he said it didn't. Advised that due to rugby being on, they were unusually busy. The restaurant is large and they were not full to capacity. Asked if there was anyway we could have a table for 2 for an hour, point blank told no. We won't be returning.

The range of coffees here was quite impressive. The atmosphere was welcoming and I must say that the staff provided excellent service.

Booked in the restaurant for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We weren’t staying at the hotel but did add that we were celebrating upon booking. We arrived early expecting to have a drink at the bar but the table was ready for us. We received a complimentary glass of champagne each on arrival. The staff were fantastic and couldn’t have done more. They even sorted us out with a special dessert to help celebrate the occasion. The food was to a high standard and the portion size was perfect. Altogether a fantastic meal and exemplary service.

We approached the café at 9am with laundry and were greeted by four Scottish Terriers who were apparently running the place, until Graham arrived up the stairs to ask what the heck we wanted...and we knew immediately we were in the right place! I've read some of the reviews, and if you don't understand Graham in the first 5 seconds of him opening his mouth, you don't deserve to be there...and I am pretty sure Graham will know/sense it himself. I think he relishes poor reviews. But we felt immediately at home, and once we passed the "test", Graham was the perfect host. I had to put up with insults on my lack of fashion sense and some uncomfortable history lessons regarding the villainy of George Washington, but my wife and I would not trade our experience for anything! Graham practically did our laundry for us, made us coffee, and even gave me a lovely (empty) can of haggis. Thank you for the experience Graham! I hope you enjoy the US Dollar Bill (with Washington on it)...and I won't forget that American history is really Scottish history!
