I have been visiting for the past 20 years although not around the corner the 25 minute drive from Urmston to Levenshulme is worth it every time. Had an amazing meal with my husband for his birthday. It really is worth trying the food. So not run of the mill authentic beyond belief. My Salmon starter was exquisite. Lamb Red Fort, Chicken Dhansac main could go on but you should try for your selves.

I had a take away through an online provider and the sauce was bland and it didn’t taste fresh. This was my first order from them and also my last. Quite pricey as well, especially with the extra costs of the online provider. Menu isn’t that great either.

We love the food from this place - everything is so aromatic and cooked to perfection, and on top of it, it tastes very healthy and isn't as oily as other curry places. We also love the great vegetarian options - The Sag Paneer is divine! Great value, too. We are very grateful to have this restaurant here in Levenshulme.

Myself and the other half visited for the first time yesterday for date night. On arrival we were a bit dubious as there was only 2 other couples in there but I'm so glad we did go in! Food was amazing. To start we had chicken momo (chicken stuffed dumplings in a spicy sauce) and lamb chops. They were both delicious and the lamb was cooked to perfection. For our mains we were spoilt for choice and couldn't decide so we went with a recommendation from the staff working there. We had a spicy chilli chicken dish and a spicy lamb dish with pilau rice and a paratha. They were both delicious and full of flavour. The staff were so friendly and welcoming i cannot wait to go back 😊

I stopped in because the bar looked good from the street (bar crawl). Th staff were lovely and frequently and welcoming to me. I ordered a dish. Simple fried rice with chicken. I have to say I’m stunned. For a plain enough looking place the food is amazing. The decor really does add to the place, particularly poignantly because the Nepalese flavours are evident in the dishes. Would definitely recommend!

I ordered chicken Noom and got 2 chicken 2 lamb. None the less after waiting that long you’d eat anything. Flavour was good but preferred the chicken. The phrase “ Ive basically waisted a whole Saturday sat it here” was often herd from the other side of the table. We got here at 8 pm and at 5 minutes to 10 we got our main courses, my lamb karahi was lovely but my partners mixed grill was raw and had to go back so i poetry almost finished my food by the time his came out ready. What bothers me is that all this came without even an apology and the waitress laughed when I said that chicken could kill him :/ Very disappointed.

We were looking for somewhere to eat and noticed it had a 5* food eating in the window so thought we’d try it. We have never eaten in Levenshulme before mainly because there are too many eating places to choose from. This place was small and fairly busy but we were shown to a table straight away and served quickly. The food was lovely, good variety of menu. Really enjoyed the the starter and Tandoori chicken on the bone. We had two drinks each starters and mains and it was £40 which I thought reasoned for a meal for two.

This is a real Levenshulme gem, the original and the best. I'd even argue that it's the best Nepalese in Manchester. Fantastic food with loads of veggie options - I highly recommend the khazana-e-lazzat. Alas, I can no longer eat it since going vegan but I've been well looked after there as a vegan too. The panchmeal dhal never fails either. Service can be a little slow sometimes but it's all part of the Himalaya charm, just relax. I've been going there for over 15 years now and the food is consistently good so it's always worth it.

Cake here with my man and a friend of ours. It was lovely! We got all veggie. The pakoras were very nicely seasoned. Everything was good! I think they cook for a British palate because we got food with one and two chilis on the menu, and we're afraid to get the foods marked with 3 chilis thinking it'd be too spicy, but I found the mild and medium to be not spicy at all.

I have been going to this restaurant for at least 8-9 years and I can't bring myself to go anywhere else for a meal out. It's not got lavish furnishings or decor. You can go dressed casual and you can feel really relaxed and very welcomed. My husband and I must of had nearly all the menu and each and every one are different and the abundance of spices are mind blowing. I can't bring myself to even go out and a have a meal anywhere else as everywhere else doesn't excite me. The banquet for two is so good and all food/dishes are such a good price. We always end up taking what is left home as there is so much. Raj, Sophie and Ravi are the hub of this gem and should probably do more to get this restaurant on the map ! I have eaten at many, many Indian restaurants throughout the country and Manchester and not one I can compare too as many places are all the same! the use of artificial colours, all dishes tasting and looking the same, no care with the spices they use (that's if they use actual fresh spices !!) making dishes too hot is the norm. Authentic Indian food shouldn't be hot. You need to taste the spices !!The New Himalaya's, this special Nepalese restaurant is the pinnacle of freshly made curries and Nepalese dishes. It was the fourth time that I have been to this restaurant so I felt it was time to write a review, and echo the sentiments of a lot of the people that go here. This restaurant is somewhere to go and take your time over a meal, and appreciate the quality of the food that has been prepared for you. My brother is notoriously fussy about eating Indian/Nepali food anywhere other than his favourite place in Glasgow, but he said that New Himalayas was more than equal to this high standard. All the food was flavoursome, the tandoori salmon becoming a welcome addition to the dishes that I know I will enjoy. The amazing, slightly deconstructed onion bhajis even better - maybe the best I have ever had.Again with most of the places I have really enjoyed eating at, it is the atmosphere created by the people who work there that really puts the polish on eating out. Everyone was really lovely, and happy to accommodate our requests to take leftovers home. If you are in Lev, make sure to go there, it's easily my favourite place to eat Indian food in Manchester.

Himalaya's restaurant is based in Levenshulme on Stockport Road. The outside of the restaurant looks a bit rough around the edges, and when you get in side it is pretty much the same. However the food that is presented is much better then you would imagine. I have been here quite a few times because it does a good selection of veggie and vegan options. I would highly recommend the onion bhaji's they are the best I have ever had!! freshly cooked and not like your normal heavy bhaji... light and crispy with cumin and fennel seeds within...such a treat! I would say it is better to eat in here because your food is fresher and I had the bhaji's to take away once and they went a bit soggy in the container. The bhaji's come with 3 lovely sauces and were presented in large modern white plates with a fresh salad.I had a vegetable jalfrazi which again was very nice. I have had a few curries from here and they were all nice. Not the best curry I have ever had, but it was worth the money for the time and effort it saved me from having to cook!!I have been here with friends, family and with my boyfriend. It is a place you would go if you don't want to get dressed up and make much effort, however if you are looking for a classy restaurant, this may not be the place for you. It seems quite dark inside and in need of modernisation. I rated the restaurant as average because although the food is good, the restaurant is in need of decoration and a bit of TLC.

Seven of us were out for a friend's Birthday on a Saturday night in Levenshulme as this is where most of us live. We were hoping to go to Nawaab but there was an hour and half wait so we tried here. I think in future we will go here instead as we all agreed the food was much nicer! You can order the 2 course banquet meal for £13.95 or we opted for the 3 courses as we wanted ice cream. The popadoms were crisp and all the sauces disappeared very fast. We waited about 15 minutes for the starters but they were almost a meal on their own.The selection was given to us altogether in a bowl with side salad. There was a small lamb kebab, very crisp and tasty onion bhaji, and three other 2-bite sized tasty things. I am sorry I don't remember what they were, we had been drinking before hand. This is also another plus point, the bar had a selection of bottled ales available and it made a nice change from the usual lager. I nipped to the loo between courses and the ladies was very clean with these beautiful wide spout taps that made the water look like a waterfall. We were all given a plate with a small portion of rice to one side, cloves and cardamom pods poking out all over place! The dishes were mild lamb, spicy potato, mild potato and veg, mid spice prawn, spicy chicken, mild chicken...that's as far as my memory goes, I think there was one more. We had baskets of naan bread quarters, but not the thick dough type of naan you get in a super market, these were thinner, plain and garlic mixed. We managed to clear 4 of the 7 dishes, and they were able to put the other three in containers to take home. The 3rd course was mango and pistachio kulfi. Ordered on it's own it has a pear shape, like and ice cream bombe, but in the banquet meal it came in a bowl and we got half and half drizzled with a bit of raspberry sauce. Ice cream van rather than fresh made but it was still nice. Including a boozy drink each it came to £20.75 per head so expect £25 if you have two drinks. You can order separate dishes as the banquet meal is a lot of food and is a min of 2 people so if you're not that hungry stick with single portions. Would be happy to go again and try the other dishes as I'm a huge fan of peshwari flavours but these would have cost a bit extra.

On entering the restaurant, there was a musty smell but I just thought it was because the building was rather old. The food was tasty and the banquet meal good value for money. My friends ordered a vegetarian dish and were served chicken. This was replaced on their dinner plate (cross-contamination?). At the end of the meal I went to the ladies and was quite shocked as both cubicles were very dirty, extremely run-down and infested with cob-webs. I dreaded to think what the kitchen looked like. For this reason alone I will not return.

There is a serious shortage of bona fide restaurants in Levenshulme. Dozens of takeaways, almost all bog standard, so forget them unlesss you are in a tearing hurry and do not care what you are feeding on.The New Himalayas is a standout in the area. I note other comments about the slow service, but if you want to relax over a quality meal you need look no further.Food is always fresh and tasty and the service is well up to scratch.Recommend the chicken shashlik. There is Indian beer on draught, but the bottled Gurkha is one of the best on the market in my opinion.Opposite is the Nawaab, said to be Britain's largest Indian restaurant, but it cannot begin to compare with this small family run establishment right across the road.I am fairly local, but would still be prepared to travel to find a place with such a high standard. This establishment deserves to be more widely known.

if you've come to Levenshulme for a curry at a well know all you can eat establishment, I would strongly encourage you to change your plans, cross the road and try New Himalayas instead. It's not as flashy, but who need a fountain anyway? The food is brilliant, with so much choice and generous portions you'll be spoilt for choice. I highly recommend the bhajis.

My Auntie lives in the area and we have been going here for years! No matter what day of the week, take or way or eating in, the food is always amazing!! I get the same every time and it has never disappointed me! The staff are very friendly and very genuine, they always ask how family and friends are doing. My Auntie sometimes suggest that we try the Nawaab across the road but I can never bring myself to be so close to The New Himalayas and not be eating their delicious food. Some reviews say that the service is slow, this is only because it takes time to make spectacular food! They've also recently refurbished with new furniture and repainted, the place is looking fresh and smarter than ever! If you haven't been here before.. my advice is book a table! You have to try it. I can't wait for the next time we pop in x

Went to the New Himalayas for a birthday meal. Having been a number of times we knew you have to wait as the food is cooked fresh. However only having half of your groups food (only 4 of us) delivered and then waiting 20 minutes for the rest to arrive is unacceptable. Then seeing other tables take priority over yours without explanation is a disgrace. Having to ask on two separate occasions for the remaining food only goes to highlight the shambolic ignorance of the rude and substandard staff serving. Completely ruined the evening and I would sincerely advise anyone reading this to avoid the New Himalayas at all costs.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend. I had phoned earlier to book a table, at 4pm, but only got an answering machine so left a message with my phone no, they never got back to me ! Desperate to get something to eat before my guests started arriving round the corner at the Klondyke club, ten of us sat down, there was only four others in at the time, so they weren't rushed off their feet. Well what can I say, I've never had such bad service in my life !! It was as though we weren't there ?? We had to ask a number of times for the menu, no one asked if we wanted a drink, usually the first thing one's asked,I had to ask again where my son's drink was ?, there was just No communication, it was as though they were pissed off that we were there or that they all seemed to be on valium or something ? Very weird ! I was told when the food did eventually arrive that it was good, I had to leave eating half an onion bajhi so i wouldn't be late for my guests......the scenario went on too long to write here, bickering between them included. I've never written a bad review and see they have many positive ones.......So if you have loads of time & don't mind sloppy inattentive service, but like a good curry I guess it's ok ?

Some friends and I got a takeaway from here last night. They are locals and swear by the place. I've been a couple of times and never been disappointed. Last night's chicken biryani tasted great but the sauce was a bit tepid and the rice a bit stodgy. That sounds like it was a let down but the taste more than made up for it. I'd definitely eat there again but I'd probably order a different dish next time. I'm just bad at making decisions.

I won't go as far as saying this is the best curry in Manchester but it is excellent and a significant cut above standard curry restaurants. I have eaten there regularly for around 10 years and the standards have never dropped. The food is always freshly prepared and I don't think they have a bad meal on the menu. The specials are all great with favourites of mine being the Karakeema Lamb, Jalfrezi, momo's and Shashlik.

If decor is an important part of your dining experience, this isn't the place for you. I have now eaten here twice; and the decor could be improved upon. What you do get is a good neighbourhood curry house, serving good quality food. Two of our group are vegetarian and were very well catered for. We went for a banquet which was in the region of £13.95 per head. We got a good selection of starters and main dishes, with rice, nan bread and poppodums.

Firstly, I will be clear that the food here is absolutely delicious! And there are some unusual dishes on the menu that make it more than your average Indian restaurant.BUT, the last two times I've been we've waited at least an hour for food to arrive which makes me question whether the menu is too big. Drinks also arrived to the table after a wait on both occasions, and beers arrived about half an hour before lassi's and water.Service here has been inconsistent and the staff don't seem to worry to much about being efficient.... Again we waited ages for out bill to arrive.I just wish the Himalayas would get their act together and match the quality of their service with the fantastic quality of the food. For now, the experience of eating there was lengthy and frustrating

I eat here regularly. 'Let's go for a curry' never means anywhere else! All food freshly cooked to order, so don't arrive really hungry as your meal may take a while ... but well worth any wait. Everyone I have taken here has been very impressed by the food and all have been keen to return. Some dishes you won't find anywhere else and the 'standards' are given a Nepali twist. The delicious vegetarian kofta and dhal makahni are so good they are addictive. Great meat and fish dishes too, and superior rice, pilau or steamed. This is not a smart restaurant but definitely one worth travelling for.

I don't normally write reviews, but I've registered for this site with the specific intention of praising The New Himalayas. Fresh, Nepalese food cooked to order. Made using natural, authentic ingredients that is full of flavour. The restaurant decor isn't the best I've ever encountered, although perfectly acceptable, but the food is most certainly exceptional. Fish curries, dhal, grilled meats are all created with taste in mind. Well worth a visit and excellent value. Service isn't always as rapid as one might be used to, but when you know everything is being cooked fresh and it tastes so delicious, you don't mind waiting. They also deliver in the Levenshulme area.

This restaurant is a must for those visiting the area, it is situated across the road from a big Indian Buffet style restaurant but is in a class of its own!! The restaurant is nothing too fancy but the food is made fresh upon ordering and the taste and quality clearly indicates that they use fresh and not frozen produce. You really need to try the king prawns either as a starter or a main - best prawn dishes ever!!! The service is very good and no big waiting time - the staff are there in the background when you need them but not intrusive at all - Excellent all round!!!

We had a very good take-away. The momo starters (dumplings) were in a good thick tasty sauce, the samosa (came in 3) were prism shaped and thick with meat, and not greasy nor fatty, the dips with the poppadum's were excellent, especially the green puree of herbs. The chicken curry was very good, where the chicken was cut up small which added a nice texture, the thali (selection of 3 dishes) was very tasty especially the lamb in spinach. Normally Indian food, at least from my experience, tends to be served with an oil slick, but on this occasion it felt that you were eating just good food, well prepared. The rice that came with the Thali was fragrant and went very well with the curry too. The roti was nice and mopped up all the remnants of the sauces left over in the many aluminium containers nicely. The cold beer washed the lot down with ease. I don't know if it is one of the very best meals I have ever had, but it was good.

We first came here because they were full at the buffet across the road and now ckme here any time we feel like a curry. The menu has the usual choices but a great variety of other dishes as well. The meals ae cooked from scratch ehich is brilliant for me because i am allergic to chillies and this is the only Asian restaurant i have been to where i have a choice if menu items. I have been to many curry mile restuarants where they either cannot offer me anything ir at best a Korma with no spices in it at all. food is goid value. we often have poppadoms, starter and main each with rice and breads and come hkme eith change from £25 and leftovers for lunch the next day Because meals are cooked from scratch don't expect a fast meal but the wait is well worth it.

Came across this really small cafe by pure chance whilst venturing through the quays. The owner was hidden at the very back of the eatery in the kitchen, and the menu was above you high on the wall. The layout, although small, was filled with benches, so in essence, you can eat inside, but I think it's mainly kept busy by the takeaway crowd. We were not expecting anything much in quality, as the prices were extremely reasonable, that said we were both taken aback to how enjoyable the currys were. What I can recall was that each day, the menu has different currys on offer, vegetarian included also. The owner is also the cook and seems to spend her time preparing and serving the food, which I suspect is all pre-made earlier that day or night before, put into various containers, placed in fridges and the rice, chips and chapati is made whilst you wait. In conclusion, it was really a nice establishment, food was delicious and we will come back again when next up North. Opens every day at 11.30 - 8 pm, closed on a Sunday.

I've lived around the corner for years and have never been. As is the case with most eateries in Chorlton. But recently visited multiple times as we were do impressed on the first visit. Everything here is cooked from scratch on order and right in front of you by seasoned chefs, if you stick around to watch (although would recommend a pint in Fell whilst you wait!). There is an extensive menu to choose from and the food is bang full of flavour, not greasy, service comes with a smile (as well as recommendations to pallette) and prices super reasonable. Very old, very dirty, dingey, the food was beyond disappointing, the waiters were friendly but the food is maybe the worst I've ever tried in any restaurant. Flavourless, old, low quality and the price is ridiculously high for this kind of quality. I went here as the reviews made it sound really nice but it was a total waste of money and I would highly recommend you avoid this place. I can't imagine this place has a hygiene rating of more than 1. There are much better Nepalese restaurants in the vicinity, don't waste your time or money. When we got there we saw a family leave with alot of food barely touched, I thought they weren't hungry but should've realised that was a bad sign that the food was awful.
