New Cod on the Block in Sheffield

Ordered from here many times, but tonight was weird. The fish was like it had been sat out all day; very dry and tasteless. The chips look like they’ve been throw back in the frier from earlier. Won’t be revisiting.

Great food, always great service!

This is dreadful food! Do not - NOT - eat from here. We used to have food from this shop back in the day, and it was excellent. Tonight, fancying fish and chips, we ordered through Just Eat, expecting proper fish shop chips, and fish in decent batter. Were chips that were clearly frozen, thawed and subjected to a cursory frying and fish in thin, wet tasteless batter. Verging on the inedible. Paid £29 for rubbish.

Awful food. I expected chip shop fish and chips - I've had great food from this shop in the past - what I got was frozen and thawed chips that had been given a cursory frying and were thick, clumsy and hard, and fish in thin, damp and most definitely uncrispy batter. Verging on the inedible. Having not had fish and chips for a long while, we were eagerly anticipating what turned out to be a major disappointment. I do not understand the positive reviews, unless this was an untypically bad night, or that the tolerance of third rate fast food has become massively more relaxed.

£7 for a SMALL fish and chips is insane. In this economy it's not worth it. Cod is not really crispy, kinda eh, food was still warm after a 30 minute walk so it's alright. But not a place I'd frequent.

I ordered a small portion of fish, chips and curry sauce and it was £8.30. This price seemed high to be but I was in a hurry and after seeing the reviews on here thought it’d be worth it. It really wasn’t. The batter on the fish was thick and stodgy, and the actually bit of fish was very small. The chips were ok, not good or bad, just average but the portion was very small. The curry sauce was typical chip shop curry sauce and I had no issue with it. The lady behind the counter was pleasant and friendly. Overall, I felt annoyed that I spent that much money on a small, underwhelming dinner.

The fish and chips are pretty good aswell as tasty. But hospitality and service is a bit questionable and blunt. If your local and been going there for a 100 years then you'll be greeted by a warm friendly face. But if its your first or third time there, the staff can be rather blunt and want nothing to do with you. My advice just treat everyone the same, old or new.

Great vegan options including pies, nuggets and sausages. Chips were super tasty and definitely fresh, the lady behind the counter was so friendly, really made our day!

Mother in law loved it and still hot when we got to hospital with it very friendly and happy to help

Second time I've driven here when it's supposed to be open and it's shut. Won't bother trying again. I know that's harsh but it's not hard to advise your opening hours..

Thay made us so welcome. A friendly place in eat. And lovely food. What Moor do you want. Friendly and good food we came down from Scotland. And can't wait to go back.

I like the fish & chips here as long as they are frying separately from other foods! I wish the staff to be careful not to touch the money & the food with the hand.. Also, to find out a way to let the smoke of cooking to go away from the shop.. it's fine unless you've got an asthma 🙃.. Many thanks

Easily the best chippy in Sheffield, The staff are lovely, the food is consistently good, the portions generous and the pricing is fair given all of that. Oh and while it gets busy at times, that's probably a good sign rather than anything else!

Had a chippy tea with our family last night. Everything was lovely. The fish really meaty ...not all batter and massive . It was the best fish that I have eaten for years.

Order 20 mins before they shut and your order gets cancelled. Shocking service considering what that charge for stuff. I will not use this place again. Have a early night

Always excellent fish and chips. Portions large. By far the best in this end of Sheffield. Owner has high standards both in the hygeine of the serving area and also in her approach with customers. Always giving of her best even when extremely busy.

Wow spot on chippy, had the cod & chips. Crispy batter, perfectly cooked fish and great tasting chips.

Was looking forwards to our order, having had good reviews, but I found the chips to be reheated from the dinnertime, the fish my wife had was lovely as were the mushy peas, my chicken kebab was the smallest ive ever had, it was pitiful.and at £6.30 was very overpriced.

Lovely food and the staff are sound. Always up for a bit of banter!

Chicken curry the best no where In Sheffield does it like this place

When we arrived we were waiting outside due to corvid regulations. we thought that's ok, fish and chip shops are quick in's and out's, but not this place. we were outside waiting for 15 mins, then when we finally got served we were told it was cash only (their was no signs stating this) and were told to go to an ATM which luckily for us I drive and could get to one quick. they told us our food would be ready when we return, so we thought no problem. Upon our return food was not ready, but she served us as soon as she realised, but my partner still had to flag her attention as the crowd waiting to be served was getting bigger with students joining the fray. in total we had been there about half an hour which depending on your opinion, to us is long for a chippy in Sheffield. The food was alright but was pretty bland to other chippy's we have been to in northern Sheffield. And was a tad expensive for what you were getting. We will not be returning personally, hopefully they manage to find a way to increase customer service speed.

Fish and chips are always good and they do proper Pukka pies

Only reason I don't give this 5 stars is because of the price now. I used to be a regular there and now the prices have gone bananas. There food is delicious but I can't justify spending four quid on a bag of chips anymore than I can over 6 quid for a fish, it's then a tenner a person and that's crazy.

Gave up after queuing for half an hour during which time only 2 people actually got served ahead of me. Instead there was a constant stream of bulky pre orders and delivery drivers being served. Understand the attractions of online orders especially at the present time but if you want to bill yourself as a traditional fish and chip shop you need to value people who order on site too. Plenty of staff in, only one lady doing much packaging. Surely you can have one person doing pre orders and another dealing with the actual queue? Still give it 2 stars as managed to get served in a previous era and the food was good.

2016 Lovely fresh fish, that you order on arrival or telephone order in advance. The best fish I have had from a fish shop in Sheffield! Lovely chips too. Lovely fresh white fish and cooked to order. Great fresh, big, perfectly cooked, hot, chips and lovely mushy (proper chip shop style) peas too! Staff really friendly and helpful! Takes cash only. New Cod on the Block have been a great takeaway treat during this pandemic and deserve our support! Social distancing and masks are required and premises very clean.

Look kids, I'm not going to mess about. This place is the nuts. I've been coming here on a weekly basis for the past year, and it has never, not ever, failed to disappoint. I met a local lass on a flight to Germany once. She said that the Upperthorpe Fish Bar was better and after wasting a tenner I can conclusively say she should be taken out and shot at dawn. The batter is crisp, the chips are spiritual, and I never had the mushy peas, but goddamit it I reckon they would cause multiple orgasms if I did. The guys behind the counter are absolutely lovely to chat to, and they work their arses off every day of the year. I cannot recommend this chippy enough. Fast, friendly service, awesome fish, and well worth the price. Thinking about it, why the Boris Johnson am I even writing this review, when I could be having some of the good stuff? Ta-ra.

We got a delivery from here- didn't think it was as cheap as some but the quality really made up for it. The little touches were great, for example the breadcakes were some of the best I've ever tasted. A class above your average chippy.

The most incredible fish, chips and mushy peas! It is well worth a visit at least once even if you are just passing through Sheffield. We visit every week under normal circumstances! The staff are wonderful and an essential part of the community! They go above and beyond in serving their customers! Amazing service!

Fish and chips only from the New Cod on the Block!

Think I was the last customer of the decade, as New Cod are currently closed until the New Year. Very friendly and nothing is too much trouble, plus the fish and chips themselves are superb. Highly recommend!

I have been to this fantastic chip shop twice for me and my family. We have all really enjoyed our fish and chips both times. The staff are very nice, polite, plesant. The premises are clean and tiday inside and out. If you want to enjoy a magnificent fish and chips New Cod on the Block the block is the chippy to go, you want be disappointed.

Pleasant enough but food too greasy and chips too soft

Well wat can I say,gets better each time we visit. Family had a lovely meal,haddock was so tasty and fresh chips were lovely and crunch .one wanted doner but was easily pleased with chicken kebab very tasty my family was very pleased .
