New Calley Arms in Swindon

Having been recommended by a friend, hubby and I decided to pay an "early doors" visit for a spot of dinner. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcomed, Jess behind the bar was an absolute delight and extremely friendly (as were the Landlord and Landlady). The food was sublime! I had the Hanging Peri Peri Chicken on a skewer - visually amazing - and very tasty. Hubby had the Belly Pork with Black Pudding. Shame we had no room left for dessert! Thank you so much, we shall return.

Perfect setting for a family meal for 10. We were seated in an area off the main bar which was very comfortable, the menu was varied and there were a few specials to make your choice even harder! All 10 of our meals came out together. Piping hot, looking delicious and a more than generous portion. The pork loin was amazing. Cooked to perfection and the accompanying dauphinois potatoes just made the dish perfect. Family said the ribs were amazing too and the meat just fell off the bone! Although we were full from our main course we had to sample the dessert menu. Again the cheesecake was superb. This was our third visit and every meal has been consistently good. The atmosphere and service in this place is amazing. Definitely one to visit again.

From the time you arrive in this cosy pub restaurant- you are made to feel very welcome. You need to book well in advance to secure a table here, that’s because the food is absolutely amazing, because the word has got out! Congrats to Dave and Barbara and the great family team for making this place the little gem it is. On this night my wife had the Chicken supreme, I had the last home made fish pie ( highly recommended) and my two friends had the fish and chips and the hanging chicken kebab dish, which again is amazing as I’ve had that before too. I will always choose this pub to have a home made meal - top marks to whoever the Chef is - but you have it so right. Keep up the great work guys. Well Done!

Lovely Sunday lunch on Mothers Day. Lovely fresh tulips on the table, and a glass of prosecco for the mums. Nice brown roast potatoes, proper cauliflower cheese and a large portion of meat. No room for pudding.

Have visited twice recently for food. Both times food was outstanding and well priced. Second visit not quite as good as first due to service - it was by no means awful but very slow & some of our requests - decaf coffee, bread - were met with a look of complete shock..not sure why!! Also was very crowded on second visit - personally I don’t mind this & it is a small space but my friend’s chair kept getting bumped by people at the bar which she found a bit annoying. But would definitely return.

Good, tasty pub restaurant dishes, better than most and with good sized portions at a reasonable price. Nice atmosphere with service which is always friendly and obliging - we keep going back.

Having reserved a table for 5 people for 18.30 we arrived slightly early but already the place was full ( always a positive sign) and had a lovely warm atmosphere along with some good aromas. We were greeted with a smile at the bar and our drinks were in our hands within minutes. We were escorted to our nice circular table with plenty of space for the 5 of us. We chose a bottle of house white wine which arrived quickly and was cold and pleasant to drink. For our Main course 2 of us opted for the Hanging BBQ Chicken kebab Fries and homemade slaw and 2 of us chose the Pork Belly with black pudding mash/veg and gravy and our other choice was A par-boned chicken supreme with dauphinoise potatoes. All our meals arrived in good time and piping hot and all together. The presentation was very good on all dishes and the ingredients were good and were very large portions and most importantly very tasty. The service was exceptional and friendly but still managing to stay professional simultaneously. We all had further drinks during the remainder of the evening including Coors lager, floater coffees, brandy and Malbec wine. We all agreed what a great night we all had in lovely surroundings and had our every need tended to efficiently and professionally. Many Thanks to the waitresses, bar staff and kitchen staff you are a credit to the hospitality industry. We hope to see you all in the near future.

Organised a surprise 50th birthday Sunday lunch and everything was impeccable! All the staff are simply amazing - super helpful with the planning and just adorable on the day. The main lady (sorry, not sure of your name but possibly the landlady (long dark hair) is the perfect hostess, ably supported by another lovely lady (shorter blonde hair). They just went over and above to make everything special. The Sunday lunch was honestly the best I’ve ever had bar my own kitchen. We had a variety of meats, all lovingly prepared and cooked to a very high standard. Ample portions, fine quality and beautifully presented. Absolutely top class - you would struggle to find a finer Sunday roast. Also the offer of extra veg or roasties if anyone wanted them! Well done chef! The ambience was also warm and friendly - a real local pub set in the heart of Wanborough with a charming feel. Without exception, every one of the party of 15 thoroughly enjoyed the visit, especially the food. However, the hosts really finish the experience off nicely - and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg! We will be back!

It was a birthday family dinner with our two granddaughters. Jess provided colouring books for the girls. The food was lovely - we had the belly pork, sea bass and chicken fajitas. Nothing was too much trouble. See you again soon.

A lovely country pub, with wonderful atmosphere. Firstly the customer service is on point, everyone is treated as a friend and the staff will go above and beyond with hospitality, The food is superb, great portions, excellently cooked, local ingredients used, well presented and very reasonably priced. The puddings I think are even too cheap! Could charge more for the size and quality. Fully recommend you try and if you do, you’ll return soon after, I’m sure of it, proper gem.

Ordered their fish and chip takeaway many times before from the New Calley Arms and it has always been good however last time, the fish came in some sort of weird batter which wasn’t very nice and crumbled off. So today I called to check it they’d returned to the beer battered fish and check on the price. I was advised the fish was in beer batter and it was £9 a portion so I ordered two. When my husband went to collect them, he was charged £20 so he said to guy that served him what we were told when we called to order and he just shrugged, smiled and walked away. On getting home and opening them up, we discovered in both portions that the fish was all broken up and half the batter had crumbled off. There was definitely no beer batter in sight! The chips were slightly hollow and more a kin to fat oven chips. To be frank, I think Iceland could have even mustered up something better than this and we won’t be ordering again from them. I don’t appreciate being lied to and paying for the privilege of it.

We were a family of 6 adults and went for the Sunday roast. There was a choice of chicken, pork belly and beef. The quality was amazing and the consensus was the Pork was the best choice. Usually when you get great quality you don’t get the quantity but here you get both. Unfortunately we had no room for a desert. The service was friendly and efficient too. The New Calley has the ambience of quaint Wiltshire village pub. Overall, I would say the best Sunday Roast we have had.

Went to the pub last minute, had the beef roast. I can say with confidence this is by far the best roast in the area absolutely stunning.

We have wanted to try The Calley for a while and we were not disappointed. A quick stop for Sunday roast today.. The food was really tasty and the best gravy I’ve had in a long time! (The extra gravy that comes on the side was most welcome!) 😋 Everything was delicious and the staff were most welcoming. We will be returning and bringing our family. My Wife and I have just been for Sunday lunch, we had the pork belly and roast beef and followed this with a trio of pudding. The service is first class and the food was (in my opinion) the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had in a pub. We will definitely go back.

Delicious ! My wife couldn't finish all the chips, I struggled to clear my plate. Ordered on the 'phone and sat in the car to take delivery, no waiting nor problems at this difficult lockdown time. Tip : Take along a thermal bag.

Phoned to book a table, two days before. From the start we were told that there were to large parties due in at 1pm and 1.30pm, who had pre ordered. We were welcome to come but would need to order by 12:30. We were more than happy to rock up at midday. As usual, greeted warmly and shown to our table. Ordered promptly. What I love about this place, is the menu. Simple, and straight forward. Not pages and pages of stuff the chef cooks once in a blue moon. As previously stated. Pub food , done extremely well.

The food was quick and almost too hit to eat straight away. The beef and ale pie was one of the best I've ever had. Really nice chips and veg too. Service at the bar was quick and staff are very welcoming and attentive. Will have to return soon for desert as we were too stuffed this time!

Went here for our work Christmas lunch. Everything was very good. Food was very nice and good sized portions with one of the girls saying it was the nicest roast she had ever had.

Ordered sirloin and they bought out rump. Asked for medium, over cooked. Ordered a pudding told we don't have it plus didn't have cream.. Shame as I had heard it was nice. Very very disappointed

Twelve of us enjoyed a lovely evening on Monday night. All the meals were very good indeed. The service was just great thanks to Barbara, Dave, Linda and John who were on duty on this occasion. Despite being very busy with diners, the Calley still retains a great pub atmospehere and welcomes everyone.

We have just had a Sunday roast today in your wonderful pub. We arrived late due to traffic and our table was booked out for another party at 2pm. You made another table for us once we had finished our meals and wanted to have pudding and you we’re all so friendly and helpful. The food was also exceptional pub food and beautifully presented. We couldn’t fault anything. We are from winchester and our friends are from Cheltenham area, it’s a great half way point to meet and we are so pleased to have found you. We love traditional, home cooked food and we found it here.

Simply the best pub in Swindon/Wanborough.

The service and food quality was excellent. The tartar sauce was a bit sour for my taste. Apart from this it is an excellent place!

My first visit, got the last table 7pm on a Friday night. We loved it! The food was really fresh and well executed and decent portions. I especially liked the baked salmon with French potatoes but the fish bites were fab. The helpful service, great tasting food and really good atmosphere made for a great night out. I hear the Sunday lunches are good too so we WILL be going back! You do need to book as this is deservingly popular. Great find - give it a go!

So popular is this pub that the hardworking staff are sometimess run off their feet ! On each visit to date we have appreciated the sincerity of their efforts and the food was well worth waiting for : perfectly cooked rump steak, with wonderful garlicky dauphinoise potatoes and veg selection (not the usual soggy pub vegetables.) This is a friendly informal place, very reasonable prices with a chef who knows his stuff ;so a winning formula in my book ! We will return.

We visited this pub last evening in order to celebrate our 52nd Anniversary. We were made to feel very special and Barbara went out of way to make our celebration one to remember. The atmosphere was friendly and cosy and the food was excellent. We would certainly visit them again when the occasion arises and would recommend this pub very highly. Many thanks to Dave & Barbara we really appreciated what you did for us.

I can not recommend the roast here enough it was delicious and very good value for money. We had the cheesecake for desert and that too was amazing! I highly recommend and will be back!

Being part of the local show committee, I venture in here quite often. I have eaten a meal here, been to an event here or just nipped in for a drink and a chat. The food is good and very reasonably priced and everyone is very friendly. Well behaved dogs are welcome and the staff are lovely. It recently was voted a firm favourite by the local newspaper food editor.

Again another place we had heard about from different people. We took hubbys parents out for their birthdays and we all loved it! We went on a Friday night and booked in advance...I'd recommend that, it's not huge and it got really busy! Friendly staff and a menu to suit everyone with lots of varied choices. I had the chilli winch was great, hubby had the fajitas which got the thumbs up from him and the parents both had steaks which looked amazing! All the dishes looked really attractive and were very hot and fresh...would deffo return! Oh nearly forgot the amazing honeycomb cheesecake we shared, YUM!!

After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor we decided to visit one lunchtime, our meal was alright and well presented but nothing more than you would expect from an average Pub. I was feeling rather underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed after the ‘excellent’ reviews, in my opinion - very average!

We had a table booked for Sunday Lunch for us and friends. The New Calley had a problem and couldn’t open their kitchen for lunch, having tried to contact me without success, rather than just let us down they booked us into another local pub for lunch.

My husband and I are incredibly pleased that we headed to the new calley arms after being at swindon hospital. I was in early labour, but too early to be signed into the hospital so the hospital suggested that we go for a walk and a bite to eat to get me a bit further along. My husband did some research and low and behold - not far away was this wonderful pub.

Four of us had a early Saturday afternoon visit for lunch and we were all very pleased with what we ate, the disappointment of finding out that the fish pie had run out turned to delight when my second choice pulled ham hock turned up, it was lovely and I would definitely recommend it, we all enjoyed are meals and the beer was good too. We will definitely be back. Forgot to mention the service which was also excellent

I visited here with my wife Tuesday evening and have to say the food was outstanding I had beef stroganoff with garlic bread and my wife had seabass potatoes and veg the fish was cooked to perfection definately worth a visit!! decent menu and good specials board will definately be re visiting
