My husband recommended here as he used to get food from here when he was in his old job, he hasn't had anything from there for at least 3 or 4 months but assured me it was delicious. It arrived within a reasonable time and the normal chips were fine, however, the chicken balls were disgusting, they were so dark they looked like they had been cooked two or three times, the batter was soggy and quite thick, the chicken was quite squelchy and there was a horrible after taste, I spat the first mouthful out, never tasted anything so vile. The salt & pepper chips weren't great either, my husband made the comment that 'this is not what it used to be like, they did the best salt & pepper chips! I used to really rate them!!' Well, we're not impressed, we won't be going there again and I certainly won't be recommending them either. I have taken pics of the chicken balls, unfortunately I don't have the option to attach, otherwise I would!

Delivery took 90 minutes said it would be 45 fish was just warm chips over cooked. Beef mushroom was different to the one I usually get and it was awful gravy was like water complete waste of £15 will never use this chippy again

Horrendous, made me realise why we drive to Rawtenstall or waterfoot to pick up a Chinese takeaway. £17 for the pleasure.

This place has been our favourite Chinese takeaway for years, & I'm sad to say it's not what it was. We had given feedback about the sudden drop in the amount of sauce you put in the meals, which you took on board for a little while, but tonight's order was disappointing as there was hardly any sauce again (& with spring rolls etc we love to dunk!). Had I known I could have ordered an extra portion as I don't mind paying extra to enjoy my meal. No big deal. But what has completely put us off is being lied to. You had perfected your salt & pepper chips to the point where I'd crave them so why you saw fit to change your recipe is beyond me. Yet when I mentioned it on numerous occasions you insisted nothing had changed. Please don't insult my intelligence, they used to be golden & juicy with the perfect crunch. Green chillies, garlic, onions... Absolutely beautiful. Now there's a few onions on chips that are now coated in some awful orange coloured chilli powder coating that dries them out & leaves a dreadful powdery bitter taste & gives you heartburn all night. It wasn't broke, so why fix it? I'd be more than happy to pay extra for the fresh ingredients you used. Sorry but this corner you've cut has put us off. You most certainly have changed things, please don't lie about it.

Good fish and chips, they also sell decent Chinese food

My usual Chinese was closed so gave this place a try unfortunately my meat was really dry and chewy rice had lots of hard bits just not nice at all not for me

Salt and pepper chips are the best ones around I've tryed lot of the menu and never disappointed

Very bad service they couldn’t get my food correct after 3 times. Even went back the third time and was still incorrect I don’t recommend this chippy to anyone!

Just had 2 fish and chips delivered the fish were inedible ways to much batter hardly any fish when there was fish it was like eating a piece of rubber over cooked was a under statement will not be getting fish from here again also we waited 90 mins for it really disappointing.

I love the food at bacup chippy, me and my family go there every week. I especially like the chicken balls with the sweet and sour dip. It is very filling. I also like the chicken with broccoli with boiled rice, they always put lots of chicken in with the meal.

The chicken balls are re-fried 3 times. They were hard, dry and tasted burnt. Rung once again, giving them another chance and had the phone slammed down on me when I asked if we could have them cooked fresh. Such a shame! Update - I've just been to another Chinese on Market Street. They do not refry them, they have been prepared only once. They tasted crisp, fresh and succulent. SEE NEXT REVIEW

Not the best Fish and Chips. Although the Fish was freshly made, the batter was hard and just crumbled into bits when cutting it

Cheerfull staff. Great food, try the sweet n sour pork. Only complaint is, it's cash only.

has anyone noticed a down trend in local take away recently? I mean to order a simple sausage sandwich from bacup chippy and get a full sausage and a roll separate..to make it yourself on arrival I've had other items from various places ..toast not even close to brown and not even buttered. it seems we can't get a decent take away despite there being so many here any adds to this? I was AMAZED to get a wrapped sausage and a bread bun ..as a sausage butty .. hopefully our latest Italian will yield up better results as I think standards are at all time low here lately ( rang the chippy ..they told me it's how they do it now..make the sandwich yourself) this has been posted to bacup chat t

chips are enemic gravy is so runny i thought the irwell was running through my living room pudding was cold no mushy peas whats with the peas ffs suppose to be mushy peas and the egg fried rice was like it had been hit with a dose of radiation it was more yellow than the sun im scared i might turn into the hulk

Very polite food excellent. Good value for money.

Stopped in here on the way home tonight. Looked a bit tired on the outside but we gave it a try. We were pleasantly greeted by the lovely ladies running Friday night. The chips were tasty and served quickly. Nice experience! We’ll be back. :)

My favourite Chinese by far you've got a lot in the valley tried em all. But stick to what you know if ya know what I mean lol

Ordered a big meal from here, it was okay but I found they didn't really separate their vegetarian options from their meats and it put me off. Food was what I'd describe as adequate and nothing really stood out although they were kind to throw in some free chicken wings with the meal. Nice people just sadly the cuisine was a little mediocre for my liking. They also advertise as having a 5/5 on the FSA Food hygiene rating but actually their last review resulted in a 4/5 rating. Might be worth updating their stickers so not mislead people. This made sense given the fact that when I walked in all the vegetarian spring rolls were lying on top of the pork sausages. Definitely a turn off for me. A little more care and I'd be more comfortable. I also prefer to see the kitchen where my food comes from so for me that would be a very welcome change.

Best chips I've had in a long time.

New bacup chippy is run by a very happy friendly lady and the staff are always polite. The food is always good and sometimes you have to wait a while as it can get very busy but I suppose that shows how good this place is. I would have give five stars if there was more vegetarian choice on the menu.

Just had Fish and Chip with peas and curry excellent food the fish was white and flakey and the batter it was in was light and crispy really enjoyed our tea Thank You
