Great pub, I've been going to this pub for over 15 years. Last night the footpath police were rude, aggressive and at one point stopped me going into the pub for a round of drinks. No doubt their job is a difficult one, but start the conversation with politeness and cut the aggression towards your customers, simply not wanted.

The Nellie Dean of Soho was one of the stops my husband and I made while on a food tour around the Soho area. The atmosphere was great and the staff was friendly. It was definitely a bit smaller inside than I expected, but still comfortable enough to move around and it was clean, which is always a plus. We both ordered the steak and ale pie, which we absolutely loved. It came out hot and tasted great with lots of flavor. We weren't able to stay very long since we had a list of places to visit, but we enjoyed the food so much, we both agreed that we will be going back to eat here again. For that reason, I would definitely recommend giving the Nellie Dean a try!

My partner & I popped into this pub last Friday evening before having dinner at a local restaurant a few doors down on Dean Street. It’s a proper pub with a decent selection of ales, beer and a few draft ciders. It was packed outside with people enjoying their evening and inside there was standing room only; however we would definitely return as the customer service was good. Recommended.

From the time you enter the snug bar area downstairs you feel the homely atmosphere, despite it being situated right in the Soho area. There is additional seating upstairs but we never went there. We spent a couple of hours on a Saturday waiting for friends before going to the Jazz club opposite and it continually filled up and emptied as people passed through, but generally there were ususally a few stools left to sit on a lot of people stood outside, which may give you the impression that it is rammed inside which it isn't. Drinks were in line with most London pubs and the staff were friendly and efficient despite being constantly busy. Tables were cleared continually by the staff. Overall impressed and will visit again when next in London. It does food but we didn't eat there.

Small traditional pub with bar / seating on 2 floors and plenty of standing room outside. Service was fast and friendly and although we didn’t eat, 2 groups on food tours came in to enjoy the pies while we we’re having our drinks.

Been down to London twice in the last month and can’t keep away from this place. It’s definitely the best pint of Guinness in London and that’s coming from someone who even has a Guinness tattoo on his back. Keep up the standard guys. Love this place

Nellie Dean is a trip back in town to Old London pub scene when pubs were the heart and soul of a community, the meeting point for business and the entertainment for the masses. The Nellie Dean is a true trip back in town yet maintaining the present day amenities and charm.

I've rated this as "Mid-range" in terms of price, but only because your bill will creep into double figures. For £10.50 you get a fabulous pie, mash, gravy and side dish. I had the "Blue Moo" (steak and stilton) topped with crispy shallots, and it was perfect. This was a work lunch, with people of 5 different nationalities - UK, USA, India, Spain and Thailand - and we were all agreed this was a great choice of destination.

Did not go in the evening although I would expect the place to be packed with Londoners drinking beer. Instead went for a late lunch, ordered two pies: chicken and mushroom and beef and ale pie. Both served with gravy and a choice of side dish. We tried mash potatoes and mac n cheese. Everything was delicious, a typical pub meal. Good selection of beers.

Definitely one of the fixtures in the changing world of Soho. This a typical noisy, crowded Soho pub, particularly packed on this occasion which was the night before St Patrick's Day and also before the big Six Nations rugby union clash between England and Ireland. Good selection of beers. Been here many times before and will be again in the future.

No regresaré.

Tipico, ottimo, economico, what else?

Ultimately part of the Alan Sugar Property Empire, the lessee's of this lovely little pub hewn't had their heads turned. A busy pub at peak periods, it is an enduring Soho stalwart for advertising/ media/ artistic types, a smattering of executives, locals and a soupçon of tourists alike. No nonsense food, largely pieminster à la carte with real ales mark it out from its tourist fish 'n' chips competitors. A mature clientele gives way to a young, vibrant crowd at lunch and evenings. Famous for its "mind your head" warning for the stair descent to the gent's toilets. A cheerful bar staff aims to please all comers under the stewardship of the perma tanned and ever charming manager Bruno.

We were recommended here from our hotel staff as we asked for a great place that served pies. Our family had wanted to try them as they are a staple of English food. We were seated upstairs from the pub and ordered 3 beef and ale pies with a chicken pie. We ordered each with the meal and had a side of either mashed potatoes or peas. The pies came in about 10 minutes and they were very good. There was plenty of beef in the beef pies, but my wife stated that the chicken pie did not have very much chicken, but it was still very good.We are glad we stopped by as we wanted to try the pies and we had a few more around London after trying them here.

I was invited by a 'media type' friend to meet him and others here and although I have been down Dean Street many times I have never been in here for a drink. We met at 5.30 and it was already busy. It has a lively friendly atmosphere here and they do a decent pint - though expensive. I had lime and soda but there was a little confusion fron one barmaid as to what this actually consisted of - yes the clues in the name. The crowd in here is very much media - which is very different from the crown I usually drink amongst in the City. Watch out for the steps down to the mens toilets though - the headroom is not great and lots of expletives can be heard. Also the toilets are a bit reminiscent of the public loos in your local park - could do better!

We recently stayed at the Rubens at the Palace Hotel and it was such a pleasure. From the cleaning staff, front desk, concierge, doorman, and all of the personnel in the restaurants and bars, every single person was very polite very helpful and very accommodating throughout the 10 days that we stayed there. Each evening after we returned from our daily activities, we were greeted like family. Soroosh was waiting in the restaurant eager to get us beverages and any late snacks we might want, even near closing time. I would highly recommend staying here not only because of the great location but mostly because of the great people you will meet there.
