We approached the café at 9am with laundry and were greeted by four Scottish Terriers who were apparently running the place, until Graham arrived up the stairs to ask what the heck we wanted...and we knew immediately we were in the right place! I've read some of the reviews, and if you don't understand Graham in the first 5 seconds of him opening his mouth, you don't deserve to be there...and I am pretty sure Graham will know/sense it himself. I think he relishes poor reviews. But we felt immediately at home, and once we passed the "test", Graham was the perfect host. I had to put up with insults on my lack of fashion sense and some uncomfortable history lessons regarding the villainy of George Washington, but my wife and I would not trade our experience for anything! Graham practically did our laundry for us, made us coffee, and even gave me a lovely (empty) can of haggis. Thank you for the experience Graham! I hope you enjoy the US Dollar Bill (with Washington on it)...and I won't forget that American history is really Scottish history!

This was just what we needed for the halfway point of our trip. I was expecting a laundromat with a cafe, but this is more of a cafe where you can have your laundry done. Great vibe, great coffee, and there are three friendly shop dogs! 😍 Conveniently located in the Surgeons Quarter.

what a great service in the heart of Edinburgh. After days of travel I desperately needed a laundromat, this is far better, everything you need in a quirky location, proprietor loaded and provided powder, softener, stain remover etc. Let you know when the machine was finished and basketed the dried clothes ready for repacking.

The title says it all. Lots of love for this 'kafe' with a laundry service downstairs and a brick-styled lounge upstairs where you can get your coffee. One of the few cafes in Edinburgh with such a large table - great for group or society meet-ups.

I ordered a coffee, and the woman that was there acknowledged my ordered and I proceeded to pay. My friend left for an hour because she had to get something from home. I went back to the counter and said that I was there to collect my drink. I saw some milk in the froster and thought she would get to it and then bring it to me. By the time my friend got back she still had not served the drink I paid for. She was more interested in her dog, chatting with her friends[ and serving them and everyone else btw] and smoking then taking care of my drink. NEVER AGAIN.

We were lucky to find this nice Laundry Kafe. We dropped off our Laundry (which was dirty from a week of hiking) and they dropped it off at our hotel the same day. It was folded nicely and smelt great. Also they have a nice cafe there with coffee and tea and food. They serve breakfast. Also it is in a neat part of town near a college campus with interesting shops nearby, like a vintage clothes store, etc. Fun little walk, just 10 to 15 minutes from the Royal mile.

We popped in for a spot of lunch and unfortunately paid up front. The old guy owner came upstairs smoking a cigar and stood in front of us smoking and making us feel uncomfortable for not have the same accent as him. Then he slapped lots of newspapers with coverage of the Scottish Independence parade in front of us, making it clear that we were not welcome in his cafe. If we had not paid in advance, I would have walked out but the food arrived. The food was bland, the chilli was tinned tomatoes, tinned kidney beans and onion. The good part of the meal was that at least the cigar smoke did not ruin good food. My verdict: he should be shut down.

We stopped in late today to do our laundry having just arrived in town after being in the UK for a week. Everyone there was so caring and helpful! They gave us directions to a restaurant where we could get fish and chips and even instructions on how to get there via the bus system since we were new to the area. We would definitely stop there again and next time would love to enjoy some of the delicious food that we saw and smelled!!! They are top-notch!!!

Just wanted casual coffee and cake with friends but instead ended up with racist and sexist abuse upon our entry into the cafe. Wish we had walked out then and there but we decided to give the cafe the benefit of the doubt as there seemed to be 2 members of staff and it was just the elder man (father I presume) that was being rude. He continued to harass us, making sexist comments whilst attempting to guess our ethnicity. He was wrong and insulted about 5/6 countries whilst doing so with horrific stereotypes.A vile, horrible old man, have absolutely NO idea how he still has a business on a busy and popular street. His son is not much better, totally abusive and disgusting family. On a side note, the food was about as pleasant as our experience.

I’m a 16 year old from Toronto who came in with my two parents. Edinburgh was phase two of a three-city trip through the U.K. and Ireland.I’m all for cluttered little family businesses, but this wasn’t such a stellar arrangement. There was a couch awkwardly positioned in front of the door when we came in. The tables and chairs beyond that point were positioned a little better. There was a young curly haired guy who seemed decent enough, and he headed us down into the basement, which consisted of the kitchen area and the laundry area. There were some couches and laundry baskets laid around, and there was also a children’s entertainer performing to a crowd of eight in the other room. He tried to invite me in, but I didn’t really care for that. And then we were introduced to the man himself, the “racist” most of these other reviews entailed. Our encounter wasn’t as bad as the others, but this guy would definitely not fly if he wasn’t the owner and the place had Human Resources. He was getting into a dispute with some guy over his laundry, then when he left he made a comment about him being evidently Israeli, something about being “cheap.” So then we left him with the laundry and came back a bit too early, and we had to chill on those basement couches for a while. And we had to endure the nicknames he bestowed upon us.He called me “Cammy,” which was kind of cute since it’s how they say my name “Cameron” in Scotland. But he got a kick out of my dad’s name, Randy, which means “sexually aroused” in the U.K. It was funny at first, but then he ran it into the ground. “Randy, ya dirty bastard!” Lol.He said my mom looked familiar, and she suggested actress Diane Keaton, cuz everyone thinks she looks like that. Thus, the nickname “Diane” was born. Didn’t bother to learn her actual name.I’m kind of a shy person, so I just let my mom do the talking but he kept telling my mom to be quiet and “let Cammy speak for himself.” I get what he was getting at, trying to stick up for me, but I was so in awe of the guy that I couldn’t say anything. We got our laundry, and it was dry and neat enough, which is what you’d want out of a laundromat. Mind you, they weren’t industrial laundry machines/dryers, just a couple of home machines stacked on top of each other. The takeaway was that guy. He was like a racist drunk, but I’m pretty sure he was sober. What I would give to see him absolutely hammered. So yeah, the laundry was decent. I have no idea if the food was good cuz we didn’t have any. I wasn’t deeply offended by the service, but it was offensive as hell. I can’t say this place is good for customers, but if you’re looking for memorable locals, maybe check this place out lmao.

We dropped off our laundry and were told it would be dropped off at our hotel that evening or the following morning. We paid and extra 5 pounds for that service. My wife had to call multiple times throughout the next day to get our laundry back. When we received it, everything was wrinkled and smelled of mildew. When we arrived in London the following day, we had to re-wash everything. Some clothes were permanently ruined. We will never use a drop-off service again because of this. The owner was also gruff and a little unpredictable.

The owner of this place, the father it seems as other reviews have mentioned a father and son team, has a very weird understanding of good customer services. We just wanted to have some food and quiet chat and had to put up with casual sexism, as I was greeted with 'hey baby' and other things along those lines. He has a stereotype view of all nationalities, French, Spanish, Swedish, you name it and he will give you a 'fact' about these cultures. Obviously he thinks that he's being friendly but he's not. He's being offensive. The food was not very good. My friend had soba noodles and they came on a bed of rice - probably as he didn't have enough noodles to fill the plate. I had an omelette, as it was the only thing I could eat on the menu - to be fair the owner tried hard to accommodate my allergies but while doing it he was making me feel bad about them, telling me that when I walked the door I looked cute but now not so much. He gave us a satsuma at the end of our meal, and it did taste good but really I'd rather have had a casual sexism free evening.

A very interesting meeting place for locals, students and tourists alike. The cafe offers a selection of hot and cold drinks (no alcohol) and a variety of hot meals and sandwiches all prepared fresh by Graham and very tasty. Prices are very reasonable compared to other small cafes in Edinburgh. Free Wi-fi is also available. Also below stairs is a launderette where locals, students and tourists can take their washing and get it back the same day without having to wait in the cafe. Everything is done for them. The owner is a very nice young man called Finlay who, with the help of his father Graham, run the place. Nothing is too much trouble for them but be prepared to go in with an open mind and good sense of humour as once you enter you will not go out feeling the same way you went in, you will be much happier and laughing and smiling all the way down the road.

The food was terrible and the owner clearly doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. Frankly he deserves to lose his business. Washing and drying is overpriced (15 pounds for a single load, express wash and dry) and drying takes much longer than more commercial dryers. The set up means that if you're waiting for your washing, you wait in the Cafe area where you're not allowed to eat your own snacks and drink out of your water bottle (despite probably paying much more than the cafe-only patrons). Finlay was friendly, but we were made to feel really uncomfortable and patronised by the older owner (?) who has a very misguided, racist and condescending 'sense of humour', so we eventually left with our slightly damp clothes in hand. Completely unimpressed by this awful service and definitely wouldn't recommend to other young travellers.

Finlay was lying on the sofa at the shop door, in the middle of an online conversation, was harangued by his Dad for not getting up to serve us despite being busy.Unfortunately that left us at the mercy of his father and his strange sense of humour! After commenting on my partner’s hair and insultingly misjudging his age, he eventually took our order while commenting on every item. My partner has some difficulty hearing at times and the man spoke fast and did not appreciate being asked to repeat anything. He did not seem to like that we didn’t find his ‘jokes’ funny. He asked where we were from and commented on that then asked why we were in Edinburgh. When told that we were there for a gig, began putting down the people who went to gigs in the Queens Hall, commenting on their age, dress and style. He started to make racist and anti-English comments. Definitely not a place to go for a quiet or fast bite to eat. I finished my cup of tea (a cup with teabag floating in it) well before my food arrived. Now the food, I ordered a quiche which was probably the worse specimen of its kind that I have ever eaten! It was blasted in a microwave before it came to me so soggy pastry, too much cheese on top and bland strange textured content..My partner had a microwaved baked potato with a cholesterol intense pile of cheese melted into it He had tried to ask which fillings were available but the man seemed to want him to order cheese, only belatedly mentioning beans or tuna! He the started commenting on my partner’s choice of drink, announcing to everyone in the shop, that he must be watching his weight, as he had ordered diet Iran Bru!!Possibly the worse cafe in Edinburgh, definitely a bad decision to make!Racist, sexist, xenophobic chauvinist with a misguided sense of humour! First and foremost - great food and excellent selection of teas. Went in because I noticed they sell olive oil from the Greek island of Lesvos - possibly the best Mediterranean olive oil of all and very hard to find in UK. And here's the unusual bit - you pay in two ways - once in cash and then again by being the butt of the sense of humour of a guy who lounges downstairs on a sofa and then, like a spider waiting for flies, appears up the stairs when customers come in and consumes them in an onslaught of harangues - mostly witty. So 5* snacks, 5* provisions and 5* for laughs. A younger man, who did most of the counter work while I was there, is charm personified. Well worth calling in the 'Natural Food Kafe'.

First of all, I am a person who laughs at a joke on myself but what I experienced wasn't even close! I was wearing an Indian suit, and just as I entered the store, the guy (looks like Scottish) from the counter asks me if I was dancing Bhangra (a dance style from India). I smiled at that comment and then picked up few stuffs from the store and went to the counter and then he said that a lot of brown ladies come into the store. I smiled, said ok and while waiting to be served, he spoke to me in Punjabi, when I told him I don't know the language (come on, there are more than 22 official languages in India), he put me to shame by saying that I should be knowing the language he spoke. I spoke to someone else waiting for their coffee and he commented something about my accent. I was cool all this while and waited to get out of the store as soon as possible, that's when the next one followed. He asked me not to marry an Indian Hindu guy and that they were all liars. I am already married to one and I smiled and told him that's it was too late and that I was married to one already. And finally when he said he gets to flirt with all the brown ladies coming into the store (mention of colour again), I confronted him that I might have to report his behaviour being racist. He laughed about it and then read aloud my full name from my debit card, peeped when I was typing my PIN number and announced the start of the PIN number. Totally humiliated, shamed by the service?! And finally, he decided to serve hot chocolate instead of coffee as I asked for cold coffee, managed to come up with something which was Terrible. There were lumps of chocolate powder here and there and tasted pathetic. He asked me to come again by the day so that I can see the owner (dunno if he was the owner), and that I will know why the brown ladies keep coming the the store. Terrible, inappropriate, sexist, racist person alert!!! Never going back again.

Was recommended here as I am celiac and they have a gf menu. As we were unsure what time we would be going (prior commitment before hand) I did not book. We arrived at 2.45pm and there was a sign outside saying 'bookings only, no walk ins' This was NOT on their website. We went in and spoke to a female member of staff who advised exactly what the sign had said. I then spoke to a male member of staff and asked where on their website it stated what the sign said, he said it didn't. Advised that due to rugby being on, they were unusually busy. The restaurant is large and they were not full to capacity. Asked if there was anyway we could have a table for 2 for an hour, point blank told no. We won't be returning.

We arrived early expecting to have a drink at the bar but the table was ready for us. We received a complimentary glass of champagne each on arrival. The staff were fantastic and couldn’t have done more. They even sorted us out with a special dessert to help celebrate the occasion. The food was to a high standard and the portion size was perfect. Altogether a fantastic meal and exemplary service.
