Natraj in Test Valley

I cook most of our meals . I like cooking and consider myself reasonable. But I love a night off. Natraj has always been a go to take away, so because of the days schedule I ordered a long time favourite, tandoori mixed grill. It was that bad I nearly took it back. Bland, overcooked, dry, cold. They won’t be getting another order.

I can't complain about the food, which is standard Indian Restaurant fare. The service was ok, if a bit slow. So why am I leaving a 2 star review? When the bill came it had a 15% service charge. I understand this for a large group. But for 3 people?! and 15%?! It's very awkward to say please remove the service charge from the bill, and I would rarely give a 15% tip. This is basically a scammy surcharge. I won't be returning until they stop this practice. In any case there is a better restaurant just around the corner.

We eat in Indian restaurants a lot and this was one of the best. I had the Achari murgh which is my go to dish and this was the best one I've had. My husband loved his Madras too. Mohammed was very welcoming and the service was great. We were the first ones there at 5.00 and by the time we left at 7.30 it was full up! Prices were very reasonable too. Highly recommend

Had a delicious fresh karai here, served by the very attentive Mohammed. An excellent meal out with friends, I'll be back.

I am Indian - this is not Indian. Butter chicken was sweet and tasted overly of coconut. Chicken was dry and hard. Mattar Paneer was mashed paneer and an insult to the dish. Naans were dry as if they had been pre-made and lacking butter. Prawns were rubbery. Daal portion only half filled the foil container. We only got a takeaway from here because Dawat in Abbotswood was closed and although not terrible this was a poor excuse for an Indian. Will not order from here ever again.

Booked online. Usual choice. Had to phone to arrange a pick up time, that bit could be improved However the meal was ready on time, piping hot and up to their usual standard.

Was given a specific time to collect. Collection very straightforward & felt safe. Garlic chilli chicken & chicken pili pili were fantastic, very generous portions & really tasty. Our second takeaway since lockdown & both times have been really impressed.

Really disappointed in the takeaway food this time. No real flavour, bordering tasteless. Not up to the standard we're used to.

Delivery, not hot. Meat over cooked and little flavour. Definitely won't be using again. Very disappointed as first take away had during lock down.

Had a lovely meal at Natraj last night. For years I’ve always found it hard to judge my favourite curry house in Romsey but I’ve decided that Natraj now wins! The food is excellent, fresh and tasty. About 8 visits and very consistent delicious curry. Sha is very welcoming and remembers our dishes (Bombay Tikka Masala and Lamb Biryani) every time we’ve been. Even months apart. Would recommend. My picture does t do it justice.

Two families celebrating joint 14th birthdays! Food, particularly the starters was fresh and tasty. Staff were attentive and helped recommend dishes for one of our party who is allergic to nuts. They even produced a pudding with candles for the birthday boy and girl!! Great restaurant and would recommend.

Friday Curry Night with Our Lovely Friends dinning in style at Natraj in Romsey.The Food and Service is always excellent and our waiter Shah was very attentive and friendly. They are very busy and you will need to book a table. We highly recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable evening with a friendly atmosphere.

We visit this restaurant regularly and the food is always great quality and reasonably priced. Good selection of your usual punjab curries and some interesting specials. Serving staff are always pleasant especially Shah who served us last night. Highly recommnded

We visited the Natraj on 25th January for a family meal. The food was outstanding. The service brilliant. It was so nice My daughter to the time to tell Mohammed that it was the best curry she had ever had!!

We’ve been to Natraj lots of times both to eat in, and for takeaways. The food is always delicious and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Whenever we’ve gone with family they’ve really enjoyed it too. The atmosphere is very welcoming and there are loads of great options on the menu.

I would say give this one a miss.. popadoms were old and soggy as were the dips provided with them.. Staff not interested in your opinion. Main course was very bland and no effort in said dishes. All 3 of us could not say a good word for any of our dishes ranging from mild to hot. Not the first visit there but thought we would give them another chance, however it will be our last.. Try the Purbani close by for a better Indian meal.

Through trial and error with other Indian restaurants we eventually came across Natraj and what a find! Service is great and food is always on point , we travel over 10 miles to get here and we love it well done!

Lovely food, great staff and all served fresh. We visited today with our teenage son, hoping to introduce him to the delights of Indian cuisine. We ordered starters, mains, rice, naan and vegetable side dishes. Everything was superb. Very good service and great chef. Recommended.

4 of us visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening and had the most enjoyable meal. The chicken was the most tender I’ve ever had! We had 4 different curries and every single one was outstanding. The flavours were just The atmosphere was warm relaxed and the staff were very welcoming. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be going back!

Popped into to Natraj after work for some food with a friend. Staff were extremely helpful and polite. Mohammed was brilliant and attentive all night. Food was fantastic and we both enjoyed our curries. Chocolates and baileys with the bill was a lovely touch as well. Will return again soon!

Just been here for a meal with friends, for the first time. The service was very good and not in your face, or rushed and always polite. The food was gorgeous, and you could taste the food without being over spiced. Will definitely be going back, and definitely recommend.

Busy evening, but the service was very quick and efficient. We had popped in for a quick meal and only chose mains. I had lamb dhansak, which was rich and well flavoured, and pretty spicy which was good for me. All of us enjoyed our meals.

Booked online very easy. Shown to table very quickly and had drink order within minutes. We had to asked a couple of times for water, then only brought 2 glasses for 4 people. Food was great and portion size was just right.times f

Visited for a family meal with six - the waiter was confused and got rather grumpy when he came with the starters. We had ordered mixed kebabs and a tikka mixed platter but he was offering us onion bhaji which none us had ordered? We realised that the problem was that the bhajis where part of the mixed kebabs but these hadn’t been plated up correctly in the kitchen?! This was reorganised at the table but dirty poppadom plates hadn’t been cleared at this stage?! Lamb meat on tikka platter was over cooked and tough. I had the special lamb tikka rogan josh which wasn’t special, we also had the lamb tikka karai. The lamb was over cooked and tough tasting more like liver than lamb.

Another return visit with friends & the service was excellent & the food lovely, so all in all we had a great evening, we well defiantly be returning.

Two people for evening meal, pompadoms were soft not crisp, starter was very nice fresh cooked shish kebab, onion baji sheek kebab. Main meal not edible, chicken tikka masala tasted nothing like what it should tepid in flavour and gloopy with hard pre cooked chicken. Duck kadi was tasteless and the duck was very dark chunks of pre cooked duck cold and the consistency of school erasers. yet this place is full of people eating this sub standard food . maybe its a captive audience has the other Indian restaurant in Romsey is worse than this one .

First time we have visited Natraj.The meal was lovely, good choice, many different dished, lovely flavours and great service. My only criticism is the food could have been hotter.

This was my first visit to this restaurant. I loved it, the staff were friendly and helpful in explaining dishes in the menu, we were a mixed group of vegans vegetarian and meat eaters but there was definitely a good choice for us all, every dish was well presented and flavoursome I enjoyed everything that I had ordered . Our waiter was attentive without being too intrusive and was knowledgeable about the dishes that we had chosen. As it was a Monday evening it wasn't busy so I can't comment on how the service would have been when busy but we definitely had no complaints.

The last time I visited Natraj was when they were in Bedford place Southampton and I’m glad to report the food is still excellent. I took a walk down memory lane by trying the Chicken tikka bhuna Balti that I had previously enjoyed, it blew me away with the depth and richness of flavours. The Natraj still has the same chef and which always provides continuity of service. The Naan breads and pappadam’s were fresh as a daisy. We’ll know where to dine when we visit Romsey again.

Fantastic Wednesday night curry. We are visiting Romsey for the night and my husband wanted to visit old haunts having been here before and to its predecessor in Southampton. It was a little hard to locate but well worth the search. Fresh popadoms and chutneys, great nans (one keema and one plain) and two fabulous tikka bhuna baltis (one lamb and one chicken) - highly recommended.

We booked this restaurant for an early Sunday night 6.30. We received starters some time after ordering. When it came to mains we waited and waited and waited and waited. After nearly an hour a complaint was met with." We have had a lot of take away orders" sorry. The restaurant was virtually empty but the service was dire. I had to go to the bar to re order drinks as the waiter had forgot we ordered them.. The food was definitely NOT worth the wait. To say the least it was mediocre . I would not like to see this place on a busy night. I would definitely NOT recommend this place.

Visited for a evening meal, restaurant wasnt very busy when we arrived but soon filled up. The food and service was excellent. The jalfrezi I had was the best I've ever tasted. The were 5 of us dining and all of us loved our food. Will definitely be returning. Thank you.

We had dinner with a group of friends at Natraj and it was superb. Everything from the starters including the chicken tikka, papadams, chutneys and naan keema and Peshawara, to a very spicy and flavorful lamp vindaloo and chicken pili pili, was excellent. Drank a few pints of Cobra on tap and the waiter offered is a complimentary Sambuca or Bailey's to finish things off.

This is a very nice Indian restaurant, serving a wide variety of regional dishes which are well cooked and nicely presented. The service is attentive without being intrusive and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The décor is attractive and comfortable, a nice place to go and relax over a tasty meal with friends or family, or even an intimate tete a tete with your special person.

Decided to get a meal out as we were in Romsey. Decided on Batraj as we’ve had great meals there previously. Great food and service yet again. Excellent value for money.

I absolutely love it here, it has been my favourite Indian restaurant for years. The staff are so tentative and the food is superb. I always have a garlic chilli chicken and they know it too! Can’t recommend it enough. A beautiful well managed restaurant.
