Narrowboat In was recommended to us by the owner of the lodge we were staying at so thought we would give it a try. We weren't disappointed - a warm welcome awaited us -Martin was friendly and approachable and nothing was too much trouble. The menu has a good choice of dishes - I had lasagne with garlic bread and a salad that was without doubt the freshest salad I have ever had in a pub. I did order a side dish of chips but the portions were so generous I really didn't need them. My partner had gammon and chips with egg and pineapple. The food was absolutely delicious - we were asked if we would like desert - I would have loved one, had my eye on the lemon merangue but was just too full. We will definitely go back next time we are in the area - if we lived nearer it would become our local!

We popped in for Sunday lunch and although we had not booked a table was found for us and we were made very welcome. There is a fairly varied menu but we opted for Sunday lunch. The food was good quality, large portions and reasonably priced. The pub is very clean and the staff very attentive. This pub provides good service, good food at a reasonable price.

A lovely pub. Perfect to cycle to or to walk boat or drive. Sit outside by the beautiful Llangollen Canal and watch the world go by. The menu is not a surprise. It's the sort of food you'd hope to see. The magic is in the preparation. It's all beautifully made, served with a smile, and backed up by a selection of well kept local beers behind the bar.

This place deserves a mention. Having lived only a few miles away, all of my 50 years, I'd never been before. My wife & I were driving past, heading to somewhere for a light bite & maybe a lunchtime drink & decided to turn in (I'd been to the narrowboat hire next door as a toddler!). We ordered our drinks from the very pleasant landlord. He apologised for needing to change the barrel of 'Shropshire Gold", but he didn't need to, as he knows how to keep beer, the Gold tasted excellent! My wife enjoyed her large, dry white wine. We ordered the tuna tiger roll x2, which was a simple lite bite, but nothing less than we needed & came to our outside, canals side table, very quickly, delivered by the very friendly waitress who had taken our order. Due to our delay at the bar, the landlord had told us to go & relax & wouldn't take money for food & drink until we had finished. If you are after a fancy, high end dining experience, maybe look elsewhere, but for some simple pub grub, good beer & a nice ambience, give this place a go. We were only there 45 minutes, but will return.

Lunch Out with a friend. It is many years since last visited this pub. Really friendly, efficient staff. Excellent service. The food was really delicious - steak & ales pie with pastry that was clearly home made, light & crumbly. Meat tasty and beautifully cooked. My friend wanted something hot, but not over filling - fried Brie and a half portion of chips was served, just enough and very tasty. Nothing overly priced. Great to see the boats floating by. Quite a few other customers having lunch and all seemed to be satisfied with their meals.

Stopped on our first night on our narrow boat, decided to have supper so we walked over the canal bridge to the pub and was greeted by martin the landlord who is 100% gentleman and host. Ordered a couple of pints of local cider and ordered Steak and ale pie with mashed spuds and veg also fish and chips. The steak and ale pie came with the most amazing gravy almost ordered some to go it was that good. Finished up with rhubarb crumble and custard another winner. Stopped on the way back for lunch and we weren't disappointed. A must stop for food, drink and Martin. Also my wife thanks you for your Pepsi test and glass.

Stopped for lunch. It is an odd building, long and narrow, perhaps apt given the name and adjacent canal. Somewhat dated, but lovingly cared for, with a fire glowing in the stove and a choice of 3 local real ales, and hearty pub (rather than gastro pub) food at very reasonable prices. Although not advertised, they were able to offer a good range of gluten free options without fuss which was appreciated.

Roast Beef was melt in your mouth type and the veg was perfect too, not waterlogged or as hard as a rock as you find in some places. Had a beautifully cooked homemade steak pie . A slice from a large homemade pie . (Not some meat with a puff pastry top) it was melt in the mouth and the vegetables were “just cooked”. I complemented the barman and asked if his wife had cooked the pie but he said it was his cook. We then followed with homemade lemon meringue pie which was delicious. I would highly recommend this pub. Generous portions at a reasonable price.

My wife and I, along with our daughter, visited this establishment for the first time on a wet, miserable day a few weeks ago. We were immediately taken with the warm and cosy embience of the restaurant. When asked, the gentleman who served us explained that it was a family run business from the time it started decades ago. And it showed. The service could not be faulted. Our starters arrived after no more than the time you would expect them to arrive. And we had no more than a five minute wait for our mains, after finishing the starters. And the food was excellent. All cooked to perfection. And I have to say, I had a steak that was probably as good as I've ever had anywhere around the World. The only steak I've ever had that I can remember, that was as good as this, was in a James Martin restaurant on a cruise ship quite some years ago. So, praise indeed from me. I would recommend The Narrowboat Inn to anyone. The only thing that would have improved our visit, would have been the weather. Had it been warm and sunny, we could have sat outside and ate, right next to the canal and watched the lovely boats meander by. We will definitely be visiting again. We moved up to North Shropshire just two years ago, and visited many of the pub/restaurants in the area. This place is so far, our favourite.

Don’t let outside appearances fool you. A most enjoyable lunch was had by all four of us. The steak and ale pie exceeded expectations and was very enjoyable. Even though there were staffing issues on the day the host coped brilliantly and although we had to wait a bit it was worth it. Both steak meals were well prepared and come out as ordered, medium / rare. We enjoyed our lunchtime experience so much that we are heading back there again. We made it back a few days later for a most enjoyable dinner. Fish and chips also a top dish. Well worth the stop.

I wanted a baileys but they didn't have any and was offered sherry instead. The dust on the bottles I could see was enough to put me off. We had bottled cider and j2os and I checked the dates on them before drinking. I doubt a Hoover or a duster have been used in years. Went inside, very dated decor. 2 waitresses working neither of whom seemed interested or customer orientated. 1 in particular had quite a rude arrogant approach. Our table and a table next to us had both ordered a ciabatta and 15 mins later a waitress came in and looked at both tables and said 'we are out of ciabatta, would you like toasted bread instead' the lady from the other table answered yes and before we even got a chance to answer she was gone. Returning 10 mins later with a toasted sandwich. My jacket potato had been zapped for too long in the microwave and was all hard round the edges! Went to the Narrowboat with an elderly friend for lunch. The place was cold and service was super slow. One elderly man running the bar and taking food orders with difficulty. Log burner not working properly and belching smoke continuously. Glass of wine was below the measure, but it had taken so long to even get the glass that didn't want to waste more time returning it. Orange juice and lemonade turned out to be squash and lemonade. Food order was double checked several times, then we were told only one portion of scampi left, so one of us had curry instead. The scampi eventually turned up brown and hard and was not scampi, but some tasteless white fish. Salad was poor, just lettuce and tomato. All in all an embarrassing experience, won't be returning.

We visited this pub as a family of six while holidaying on the Llangollen canal. Our visit was on a mid week evening during early April, so for a canal holiday this was quite early in the season. The décor of the Inn has a 1970's feel to it and could probably do with a bit of modernisation, but it was still very welcoming all the same. To our surprise there was only one member of staff serving both the bar and restaurant, so we thought we might be in for a long wait. The menu looked very appetising, although a bit pricey. To our disappointment we were informed that half of the dishes were not available due to a failed delivery from the Inns food supplier, this was not the Inns fault, just one of those things I guess. Following this we thought we may be better off going elsewhere for a meal, but in the end we decided to stick it out and order from the few dishes available on the menu... We were so glad we did as the food was cooked to perfection and was honestly one of the most delicious meals we have ever eaten. All good sized portions & piping hot!!!Hats off to the barman and the chef, as between them they managed to work the bar, take the food orders and cook the meals without keeping us waiting for too long. They were certainly under pressure, but remained very friendly, polite, and efficient throughout. There were fifteen other people in the restaurant and they too were also served the same top quality food and service!Would I eat there again? Yes.

We stopped here for dinner having moored up for the night outside the pub. It's quite a modern pub so no olde worlde feel to it. The service was very friendly and welcoming. The food was very average though with only 1 veg option and a lot of food deep-fried from frozen. Puddings were obviously shop bought too. That said the prices were reasonable and it was fine for the odd dinner.

Came here on the first night of our canal holiday. The place was very quiet but we did come late and out of season. The owner was very friendly and we spent the evening drinking with him by the bar. The food was tasty, standard British pub grub. Would definitely visit again! A good place for a nice rest after a busy day sailing.

On our first narrow boat trip we left Chirk and went to Llangollen…..this was on a Friday night. The next day we left Llangollen around noon and ended up at the Narrow Boat Inn around 7pm. I had previously emailed them and asked if we needed reservations and I can see why they said no. Nothing fancy here just good pub food and drink. Well worth stopping here if you’re on a narrow boat or not.

Last week my family consisting of nine people and one dog booked a table for the evening meal. We were greeted by Martin who was very friendly and helpful. The choices available were quite sufficient for our needs. Once ordered the food came quickly, it was hot, tasty and enjoyed by all of us. The sweet menu was also lovely. Upon finishing our meal Martin came and had a long chat with us and also his Dad, great stories. We laughed all the way back to our narrowboat having thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Family business, nothing too much trouble. We enjoyed it so much we revisited the pub on our way back up the canal towards the end of our holiday. A big thank you to Martin, his Dad and their staff. We visited this pub while passing on a canal boat holiday on the Llangollen canal. Having eaten at another establishment further up the canal the night before, we thought it would be good to sound this one out too. As with other pubs, strangely they don't serve food until 1800hrs. but we decided to visit and peruse the menu anyway. At around 1715hrs we, a party of four went in and ordered drinks, we were not greeted at all by the guy behind the bar and almost made to feel unwelcome. Being a fan of real ale we asked what was on offer, only to be told of one ale that could not be classed as a 'real ale', the other taps had been covered with a tea towel, indicating that they were not on at that time. In this case we opted for a cider instead and proceeded to sit outside. On looking at the menu, it appeared to consist of basic 'pub grub' so we decided to revisit the same pub we had been to the night before. Before leaving, we went back into the pub to use their facilities only to find the barstaff had changed and the real ales were uncovered and seeming 'back on'?? Needless to say we won't be in a hurry to revisit, the place lacked atmosphere to some degree.

They did everyting they could to make us welcome, sorted out moorings and catered for the disabled members of our group.

Called today at lunchtime with my family and we had a lovely meal. There was a good choice of food both main and light bites and sweets. The food was quickly served and was hot and nicely cooked and reasonably priced. The landlord was very pleasant and had a nice sense of humour. The pub is situated alongside the Shropshire Union canal and it was lovely to see the narrow boats floating by..We will certainly be returning.

We were impressed by the friendly, helpful and flexible service. They couldn't do enough to accommodate our requirements as we were popping in from the canal Barge.

Visited with family during the week for dinner. Food was excellent. I had the special of the day (Pene Vodka). The chef recommended it and I was not disappointed. The service was also very good. Definitely would recommend. It is worth a visit if you are in the area!

We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.
