A short walk from Regents Park, and tucked away in an arcade near Baker Street tube. Calm and comfortable small restaurant with excellent sushi and sashimi in the bento boxes which we ordered. Intend to visit again when next passing through.

Happy to see that the owner is Japanese and quite a few Japanese customers when we dined here. However, we were disappointed with the quality of sashimi and maki, although they were at great value. We had a sashimi set, some slices were tough to chew. The uni (sea urchins) were bitter and "melted", but not inedible. Maki were underwhelming. We saw many people were having hot food and bentos, perhaps that's what they do best. Their sukiyaki looks great value compared to other places, might go back and try that. Decor was dated, but service was friendly and efficient.

The first time I tried this restaurant was more than 10 years ago and it's always a pleasure to go back and taste some delicious japanise specialty. The sashimi is great as well as the Black cod, truly magnificent. This is a typical japanese restaurant, quite hidden actually, within an arcade passage, minimalistic and essential and genuine japanese kitchen. You will always find many japanese expats having dinner here. Prices are in the range for this type of restaurants, but you won't be disappointed by the quality.

Unfortunately we didn't enjoy our experience at Nambu-Tei. It was quiet when we arrived and the staff were hanging around in a large group, chatting, giggling and playing on a phone. Consequently although there were a lot of staff the service was not attentive. The food was average. We ordered karaage, noodle soup with duck slices and tempura aubergine. The first 2 were just ok, edible but not particularly enjoyable. The aubergine was greasy and lacked any flavour.

The sushi tastes alright and the service is good but the tuna and other fishes are definitely frozen, which is an absolut no go for a sushi restaurant! For lunch you would have to spend at least 20 pounds, which makes it quite expensive for this kind of quality. They do great bento sets if you enjoy that. The staff are friendly and service prompt. For me, as always, the only reason I give it 4 not 5 is the tired surroundings. This restaurant is consistently good.I usually have e a beer or 2. Asahi is available, always chilled to perfection. The tuna sashimi is a generous portion, thick cut on a flat platter. I eat at the bar counter. The miso soup is delicate, also perfect, I order 2 soups. I order a portion of Taku kimuchi it's sliced raw octopus marinated in fermented thin sliced cucumber. I've always enjoyed the simple easy approach and seamless service ending in a complimentary green tea. It's a pleasant atmosphere for a high quality meal that's quite unpretentious. If I invite friends, we usually are seated in the main restaurant area and enjoy a full Japanese menu. Please visit! You'll definitely be well satisfied.

Visited the restaurant on a Friday night. We ordered noodles and one of the plates was actually served with a METAL BOLT floating in the soup of the noodles. We luckily noticed the bolt before starting to eat and informed the waitress of the bolt, to which she offered to change the dish. A new plate of noodles was served later, this time without the metal bolt. Still wondering how a metal bolt ended up in our soup.Very bad experience.

We really fancied Japanese food after talking about world travel and Japan being on the bucket list. Namibia-tei was a real treat, dependent on your budget about £25pp which we were happy to pay. A real hidden gem between Baker Street Marylebone. The staff were really sweet, not overbearing at all. The atmosphere was bustling with a light sound of jazz in the background. The food was so delicious. I accidentally order miso soup as this would be my choice but it's turned my expectations around. The best, what seemed to be, family run Japanese on town as far as I am concerned. The baked aubergine I usually order first trying in Kyoto - Soho (also another favourite restaurant) was better than ever, even eating the aubergine skin was a treat! Tempura wasn't greasy at all and the sauce was delicate complimenting perfectly. Gyoza's again cooked just right, not soggy or over fried. For me the sushi was ok compared to the rest but the wasabi was very spicey! The real stuff! Which I love. Also some written cute instructions on how to really enjoy sushi which was a good touch.Thank you, we will be back... soon.

I have based this review solely on the food as the décor is rather tired and what you see from the outside shouldn't put you off.My wife and I went here on a Friday after work and the place quickly filled up with Japanese businessmen, Americans, some Chinese and a couple of groups of friends and families. Fortunately we had booked a table, if we hadn't I doubt we would have got in. It is owned by an old Japanese man who is considering retiring and going back to Japan so I suggest you go soon in case it turns into one of these trendy but trendy noodle bars lacking any authenticity at all. This place is very authentic and will be a memory blast for anyone who has spent time in Japan and is used to visiting family run restaurants. It is friendly with a backdrop of tired décor and piped jazz piano tinkling away in the background. So typical of so many bars and restaurants in Japan. The food was great. I was so impressed with the unagi nigirizushi I ordered it twice. The tempura was particularly good, light, crispy and not greasy. The baby squid tempura was good too. I'd love to know where they get their edamame from because I can't get them that fresh. The menu ranges in price from a few £ for sushi to ££ for seafood which may be a little harder to find elsewhere. Service was friendly, prompt unobtrusive. I will happily go here again. For two people with a couple of beers, a coke and a couple of items ordered twice the bill was about £63. If you are in Baker Street do yourself a favour and give it a go. Downstairs they also have more seating and a tatami room.

When you're Asian and tired of walking on Baker's St, there were only a few Asian restaurant choices that were rated 4*+. This one and the Chinese the next block over. We haven't had great Japanese in awhile and hubby + dd have been wanting udon soup and so Nambu Tei it was. This was Friday night and we got there right at opening. For those wanting to come here, I do recommend booking in advance. We got lucky but it was the only table for four that they had that evening. Most of the clientele when we walked in were Japanese. A good sign I always think when an Asian restaurant is filled with customers from that restaurant's country. The wait staff were very polite and service efficient. There were a lot of stuff on the menu. We did manage to sort through it and if we have to pick a negative about the restaurant, it'd be the menu. Maybe a bit more time organizing it?For a family of four we ordered the squid tempura, two udon soups, a sushi plate and a katsudon + rice. More than plenty for us! The prices were under £10/plate. There was a review before this one complaining about the price. I think there were a couple dishes for £25 but they were those communal soup. The ones where it's served on a pot in front of you. The sashimi were about average and the rolls were huge. After seeing everybody's dishes, we wished we ordered sashimi instead of the roll. They looked so good and fresh :) The menu is online. We really enjoyed our meal and we thought our dinner a great value. Would visit again if in the area!

Nice place, great sushi but cluttered and confusing menu.Their hot food however is a joke, the prices are absurd and the quality is below average. I had not been to this restaurant for some time, so I was glad to see that the restaurant was busy, with a number of Japanese. However, we were disappointed by the food. The service was quite slow, and the tempura prawns were not crisp, I think they had been waiting> sushi was fine. The highlight was to be shabu shabu, a favourite of mine. However, despite being pricy the beef was too thick, and seemed to be partly cooked. Vegetables were OK. Overall, not impressed, though prices, for London were reasonable.

I've walked past this place for years but only recently tried it. It was really really good. Brisk service, varied menu and customers that were clearly savvy enough to know what good Japanese food should taste like.It was remarkably good value and I would certainly go there again

A Japanese restaurant where menu is in Japanese and the public is made of Japanese can only tell you one thing. It is really Japanese. Excellent choice, value for money and service. Centrally located.

Nice Japanese restaurant right opposite Baker street tube station... it is hidden away slightly but well worth a visit. The sushi were great and much better than the chains

This place is difficult to find if you are not looking for it and the entrance is pretty scary if you are not an accustomed traveller. But it's a very fine Japanese restaurant. The food is excellent and the service very kind. Highly recommended either if you are looking for sushi or other typical food. The price is also a pleasant surprise for London. Some previous reviews I read talked of a need for refurbishing; probably it has ben made because, apart for the outer part of the entrance corridor - which I don't think belongs to them, the interior is in good condition

This place reminds me of those small restaurants near the train stations in Tokyo, where people would go for a few drinks and some foods before going home. In fact, since many Japanese people live in North London, quite a lot of my friends actually come here before using Baker Street station to return home. The foods are authentic and staff friendly. You are looking for somewhere casual with good, authentic Japanese food, then this is your place.

This place is hidden in a building just opposite Baker Street Station. They play jazz background music so it was a bit quirky eating Japanese food listening to Norah Jones. :) Despite the simple and dated decor, the food is authentic, good quality and good value. Service is very efficient. I come here every time I want a quick hassle free meal.

The general quality is pretty good for London, the decor, the service, the food, the price, all pretty good. They have a massive menu, and a lot of it is pretty authentic Japanese food. It's not a super-posh place but it's a casual diner either, somewhere in between.Every time I go there it is full of Japanese people, so they must be doing something right.

We have been her a few times now so thought it time for a review. It has changed a little over the years. Previously service was always excellent, along with the food. The restaurant well maintained and reasonably priced. It is still our favourite Japanese restaurant in London but as with everything else, change has come. First, what is consistently good;1. The Nasu Dengaku ( Aubergine with soybean sauce)2. Nabeyaki Udon hotpot with noodles and tempura.3. The Sashimi platter4. Gyu Fillet oroshi ponzu ( roasted beef fillet and grated daikon and ponzu sauceAll excellent. you can't go wrong with these.Next, the inconsistent.5. Service. I have always found it quite good. Japanese staff are as wonderfully polite and helpful as you would expect but when paying up and leaving things have fallen a little lately.6. Decor. It needs a coat of paint and a few repairs. If the owners read this, please remember that it does make a difference. It is usually best to reserve at weekends and you can normally expect to see a large proportion of Japanese clientele. If that fact starts to slip then I may begin to worry. For now, it is still good quality, reasonable value, semi homey Japanase fare that is far better than some of the vastly more expensive places in London town.I would recommend.

Sushi rice was a little undercooked. Salmon sushi was very low in fat. Service was ok by London standards but poor by Japanese standards.

This is an "izakaya" (pub) purporting to focus on specialities from southern Iwate Prefecture ("Nanbu"). Certainly the sake comes from there, and I like it. The food ranges pretty widely, but by London standards it's good quality, and the prices are reasonable. Try some Nanbu Bijin sake with a selection of sushi or sashimi and you won't go far wrong.

We were refused entry for a pre dinner drink as our 15yo daughter was with us and were left to wait on the street for 30 minutes until our table was ready. Good restaurants accommodate people in this situation. The service was average and unenthusiastic. The quality of the T bone steak and black cod was poor, sushi was good. This place has high notions about itself but fails to deliver. Exorbitant prices for very average service and food. Would definitely not recommend

Amazing food as always. Service was great but feels like could be made better with attentiveness and better order taking process. Love the terrace and the setting on a sunny day, can’t wait for it to open indoor.
