comment_iconOpinions

Starting with the food, very average as compared to the prices charged. The dosa came with sambhar and the sambhar was cold. The person took literally 5-7 minutes and brought back the sambhar. Secondly the service was super poor. As a customer we have to ask for plates to eat. The waiter did not even bothered to bring plates by themselves totally unprofessional. Third, i asked to pack my food which was leftover, the person did not even show any kind of courtesy to pack by themselves and they just put a box on my table. In the last as per charges, the food and customer service doesn’t stand to even near. Ps. Never visiting again.

I recently visited Namaste Restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. Here’s a breakdown of my observations: 1. Service: • The staff was very slow and inattentive. After serving the food bowls, I had to explicitly ask for plates, which should have been a given. • When I requested some food to be packed, they simply handed me a box and left it at the table instead of offering assistance. • There was even an instance where an elderly customer had to stand up from his table and ask for the bill because the staff took too long. 2. Food Quality: • I ordered veg biryani, which smelled like it had been frozen and stored in the fridge—not fresh at all. • The chicken starter was good, but that’s about the only positive note. • The dosa was decent, but the accompanying sambhar was served cold. I had to request the staff to warm it up, which is unacceptable for such a basic dish. 3. Beverage Options: • The restaurant doesn’t offer any cocktail options, which was quite disappointing for a place like this. Overall Experience: The restaurant needs significant improvement in terms of customer service and food quality. The inattentiveness of the staff and the food made the experience far from enjoyable.

The chilli cauliflower chicken was as good as any starter I've ever tasted in an Indian restaurant; and my main course (and the restaurant's speciality) dosa dish was huge. When we ate in there the restaurant was full of Indian families enjoying their food, which would imply how authentic the cuisine is. Friendly staff, and in and out a little over an hour after first arriving. Perfect!

Brilliant food that is good value and great service. It is by far the best chicken biryani we have ever had and the dosa was also very tasty. The service was very good, the only thing would be that the tables were very close together so it felt as though you were on top of other tables a bit. Overall, a brilliant and unique restaurant in the areas.

Very good quality, well flavoured food. It is definitely one of the better restaurants around, I had a perfectly spicy Panner Kadai. We came as a group of 8 on a very busy Friday before Christmas, the chilli fish always goes down well with all. As someone with coeliac disease requiring gluten free foods curries are usually very reliable, however the menu was a bit unclear about which dishes were gluten free (it suggested that the plain rice wasn't, among other dishes), however one very helpful waitress assured me that it was in fact fine - it would be good if the menu could be amended to be more accurate.

Went with a team from work as guests of a supplier. Arrived to find that they had let our table go to another group. Waited for about 10 minutes before another table was found. Waiting was the name of the game for the whole evening, as there was no coordination amongst the front of house staff. When we finally got our food, it was tasty, but I was put off by the mould on the stopper of the water bottle (pictured). If this is the level of hygiene in this kitchen, it's unsurprising that we all had upset stomachs that evening and the next day. Avoid, unless you're after rapid weight loss.

The food wasn't bad, though a bit different than I was expecting based on visits to other local Indian restaurants. For example, there were non naan breads available, and the biryani wasn't served with a vegetable curry and was a lot hotter than it usually is. The menu does state that everything is cooked "medium", but that seems a bit lazy. The service was rather terrible - not slow, but the staff just plonked everything on the end of the table and asked us to pass the hit doses down. Why not use trollies, like other restaurants? We had to keep asking staff for drinks too as no one looked after the table, and we had to ask (twice) for the bill and then again for the machine so we could actually pay. It seemed like we were an inconvenience, and I dislike that an optional "gratuity" was automatically added to the bill, with the staff then accusing us of under paying because we declined to pay the full gratuity. The place was also pretty dirty, with staff simply wiping muck from tables directly onto the floor. And the floor itself was like an ice rink. We definitely won't be going back - other Indian restaurants are better.

Very unusual menu structure, difficult to manoeuvre around. I ordered a biriani, traditionally this is a very mild luxuriant feasting dish and usually served dry. The rice was almost wet and the chicken covered in a wet paste with searing heat. That just got hotter and hotter. This dish was not indicated as being hot. My partners dish (and he likes a bit of heat) also had to give up due excessive heat. No naan breads available!!!. The onion bhaji starter also very very disappointed, just a few strands of plain onion covered in a very thick heavy batter, again with this searing heat. Three little 70mm discs for £6. Cannot on any level recommend this venue...despite this being the no 1 rated Indian in Exeter by tripadvisor.co.uk. Tucked away in a back street don't bother to search it out.

Last week I had dinner there despite many of my Indian friends asking me not to eat there because they use stale food and freeze curries for days in the fridge. I wanted to eat dosa and Namaste is the only place that serves dosa as far as I know. The chutney they served was bad and smelling. It tasted funny also. When I told them about it they gave me a fresh bowl but I did not risk it. There was a gentleman beside us who had the same food and he obviously did not understand that the chutney had gone bad. Now if he has a bad stomach, he will blame Indian food being too spicy and unpalatable. I don't care if they gave us a £1 discount for the chutney but this was very wrong. Either they were uninterested and unwilling to cook fresh or they were careless enough not to check their food before giving it to customers. Eat there at your own risk. I'm not going again.

Wonderful Food. Good portions Good value Although we felt the cost of the meal/drinks were affordable, the restaurant itself has some really bad bits. The menus were wet, dirty and laminated (felt used) The floor slippery, felt as though your walking on a wet floor, the toilets need updating, The service we received was below par.. had to wait 20 minutes to be served.. the no naan bread option let this place down. The overall wait time to eat was 55 minutes. The staff team were busy, friendly but below what I would expect from a first class Indian restaurant... Denleys/tamarind bay service is second to none. We will try this again, just hoping for better.

After walking by this place a few times and thinking the smell was amazing we finally decided to take my parents there. The actual appearance of everything is very nice and the staff were smiley but very difficult to communicate with. The menu was disappointing and not very varied. The restaurant could not cater for my wife's intolerance to garlic as EVERY dish had it in, you may laugh but every other Indian we have eaten at in Exeter doesn't put garlic in their Korma. My mum did order the korma and it was far too spicy for her, we bought my daughter the chicken fried rice and again it was too spicy. I had to pull a million hard inedible bits from my curry. Overall very very disappointed.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Namaste, and it was an experience to remember! From the moment we entered, the warm ambiance and authentic South Indian aromas set the perfect tone for the evening. The highlight of our visit, however, was the impeccable service provided by Nidhi, who went above and beyond to make our meal special. Her attentiveness and friendly demeanor made us feel truly welcome. She was knowledgeable about the menu, suggesting some amazing dishes that perfectly suited our tastes, including the Dosa and Chicken starters. Nidhi ensured that we had everything we needed and checked on us at the right moments, never being intrusive but always there when required. The food itself was delightful, with every dish bursting with flavors reminiscent of a traditional South Indian kitchen. Visited Namaste Exeter last night and was blown away by the authentic Indian flavours! Started with the perfectly spiced Chicken 65 and crunchy Gobi Manchurian, both deliciously complemented by a chilled Kingfisher beer. The Dosa was crisp, airy, and perfectly golden, offering a delightful crunch with every bite. The Paneer Masala was rich and creamy, bursting with the flavours of Indian spices. The highlight of the evening was the mouthwatering Kadai Chicken, paired with soft, flaky Parottas that practically melted in the mouth. The warm ambiance and attentive service made the experience even more memorable. If you're in Exeter craving genuine Indian cuisine, Namaste Exeter is the place to be for a true culinary delight!

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in the area from the quality and authenticity point of view - the food is cooked to order, very well, with an exciting range of street-food style starters. In my last visit I had the Chicken Kothu Parotta (it’s not described very well in the menu)- it was really good, very filling (no need for rice or Nan with this one, it’s got chopped bread in it). Highly recommended. The seating is a bit basic and the staff are very busy - one for the curry connoisseurs!

We went here yesterday for my other's half birthday meal. The restaurant was packed so we thought it must be good. What a disappointment it was, too busy, too rushed, too ignored. My meal was distinctly lacking the chicken it was supposed to contain, and when I complained, the girl just told me she would tell the chef - no "sorry", no "how could we have done better", no compromise. Do not eat here, awful meal and awful customer service.

Managed to get a table for 2 with no booking, but restaurant fairly full. Only real downside for starters was a rather disappointing onion bhaji. A couple of items we would have liked to try were off the menu tonight, both prawn dishes, but we had chilli fish instead and that was great. I really enjoyed the selection of dips with the poppadoms and the vegetable samosa we had was good if somewhat small. Our main course was channa masala with batura, both good. All washed down with two large bottles of Cobra and a final bill for £50. Service was a little patchy, we had to ask twice for cutlery for the main course. Seats were not very comfy, and the atmosphere was rather noisy with a constant bleeping sounding like a 70s arcade game in the background along with a bit more heat than I like. Still, I'd recommend the place for mostly good food, and mostly good polite service.

We visited on weekend Saturday evening (4 adults + 2 kids 6 and 2 years + 1infant 7 month ) our first time in Exeter we were pleasantly welcomed and accommodated to a nice arranged table setting. The food was great wasn’t expecting it to be this fantastic! Delicious and fresh - We were served by Ankita, who was so warm and welcoming! Her and the very pleasant staff came around quite a few time to check if we were okay with the food or needed anything even as they were very busy, Brilliant evening all round, great service, lovely atmosphere, very friendly for kids off all ages. definitely worth a visit We will be going back! Thank you to Ankita and staff all round.

If you'd like a change from British Indian food , this is the place for you. This is true South Indian food - and delicious. Ankita and the rest of the staff were brilliant and very friendly. Though busy. Definitely book

A busy Friday night visit for 5 of us, where the food was excellent, service with a smile. The best Indian in Exeter. A must for food lovers. Just remember to book table in advance as it can be very busy

Amazing service from ankita who made us feel welcome and checked on us several times throughout meal and was very accommodating to my kids needs. Amazing variety of vegetarian options in comparison to other Indian restaurants where vegetarian is limited. Dosa was tasty so my son did not share so must have been good and hubby ordered another. It was clearly busy so food took a while but as she knew my young kids were hungry she tried to get their food out 1st. We had no complaints as we could clearly see they were busy but ankita still apologised for the slow speed of food which we appreciated. The other staff similarly were very accommodating and friendly definitely will be going again to try other dishes on the menu. The question is will tomorrow be too soon?

A friendly welcome and polite staff could not compensate for somewhat average food. The prawn and Puri starter was good but the other dishes were disappointing. It's a busy city-centre venue - perhaps it doesn't have to try hard enough.

Don't book online. Booked a table via the website which was confirmed on the website but I didn't receive an email. Emailed them to check, only to be told they were fully booked. If that was the case, why was the website showing availability and why was I able to book. Good job I checked, or I would have been none the wiser.

Dangerously incompetent. Willing to leave cooked food lying around indefinitely rather than get it to the customer.

Dine-in is not there. It’s a food truck. Food was yummy with traditional Kerala(Southmost state of India) dishes.
