Namaste Exeter South Indian Resturant in Exeter

We were visiting old friends in the area who suggested this restaurant. We all love our Indian food but are generally used to Bangladeshi cuisine so to sample southern Indian cooking was both a novelty and a great pleasure. Our party consisted of six adults and two kids aged 10 and fourteen - all of us very much enjoying our meal. It was really interesting to not recognise the many dishes available and whilst we thought we may have over-ordered the food was so delicious that we didn’t leave a lot. Service was friendly and efficient with prices being more than acceptable. We ate early and booked a table and the place was already ‘buzzing’ which is clearly reflective of the well-deserved popularity of this place. If I didn’t live so far away I would most certainly be a ‘regular’. Definitely to be re-visited when next in Exeter.

The restaurant is located in an alley so the atmosphere is quiet. About half of the seats are occupied. I like the food and the service is quiet nice as well.

Had a wonderful meal here between Christmas and New Year for a friends birthday. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. I had the Mutton Ulathu and the Large Dosa and both were fantastic. Would definitely like to eat there again.

Nice vibe to this place; it was busy but not too busy. Clean and modern look. An interesting menu, with some more unusual dishes. Looked a little pricier than average,eg rice, but when the portion arrived it was generous and not too plain. The service was good and we didn't have to wait long. The food was delicious and we both enjoyed our choices. I would recommend this as a good place to eat. Although central to the city, it had the advantage of being in a location that wasn't too tricky to park nearby.

Really delicious food. Very helpful waitress who helped us choose from the menu. Not your normal Indian restaurant. Great value too.

Not at all worth it!!! Expensive!! Bad service and food was average as well. It took a really long time to serve our food and we wanted to go home.

Great little restaurant with truly authentic flavours and dishes. My recommendation is just ask them to bring you food until you burst! I’ll definitely be back, best food I’ve had in Exeter.

Service was great, the only problem was the lamb and the mutton were extremely salty. Just cut down on the salt. Otherwise everything was lovely

My partner and I ate here on Saturday. The young waitresses were friendly, efficient and helpful. Although the menu was slightly different to what I was used to the food was outstanding!! Good portions and reasonably priced. Would definitely return

Amazing South Indian menu. Can recommend any of the chef's specials and the dosas were crispy and tasty. I had a starter of spicy chicken that was sticky, sweet with a medium chilli kick. Main of poori with chana masala was incredible. I finished off everyone's sambals too. There were 10 of us in our party, but the service was quick and provided with beautiful smiles from everyone. Absolutely fantastic meal.

Just excellent Indian food. Probably the best I’ve tasted in this country. Service was good, decor is basic but fine. Just go for the food and you won’t be disappointed.

As out-of-towners, back once again. Just the best curry. Great service, looking forward to coming back again next time we are back in Devon. Real treat.

Great comms when using the online booking system. Staff greeted us and served us with smiles and were helpful with the menu. As a vegetarian I can say there is a lot of choice which is fab. Defo recommend the cauliflower Manchurian!!

We turned up at Namaste at 6:30pm without a reservation after visiting the Exeter Christmas Market. The waitress hesitated but then offered us a table as long as we were no longer than one and a half hours. The food and service were excellent, authentic Indian cuisine. I would not hesitate to return.

Food tasted good, perfect amount for sharing. Service a little iffy, portion sizes were very unclear and the receipt was incorrect. Still good experience despite this.

Amazing curry and food. Felt like i was back in kerala. Bought out all my 10 friends had the best time. All my friends said they had never had a better cury.

Having spent 5 months in southern India, I can say the food and service are totally authentic. Really delicious food and lovely people serving. Now it is super busy on Fridays and Saturdays and is also super noisy. For me I wouldn’t hesitate to return but not at the weekend. Conversation definitely a challenge

Food was good, hospitality and service was very nice.

One of the best curries I have had in a long time. Tasty without being too hot. The he staff are really good and it is two minutes from the Corn Exchange

This is a nice restaurant with a great and cosy atmosphere, but for me it lacked information regarding the ingredients, when asked about Gluten free dishes I was met with a blank expression. Therefore the experience was not as good as I'd hoped.

Exelent food service and time management

The food was delicious and service was good. We didn't have to wait long and the prices were reasonable. My only criticism is it has a canteen feel.

Me and my friends went over after reading the reviews..and I am disappointed to say it wasn't worth it.. it was an expensive place. We ordered prawns for starters which we never liked the taste. The fish biriyani was so spicy...The chicken chettinad never tasted the way it should have.. I regret wasting money here...

Worst food I’ve ever had avoid !!!!

This is a South Indian restaurant serving authentic food from Kerala and Tamilnadu. We loved it. Must try lamb/Kothu Parotta, masala dosa, briyani, appam, fish moli, Chettinad curry, and sambar vada.

The food was exceptional. Nothing like I’ve tried before…. But wow it was so full of flavour. Culture & taste & such a fantastic find. The staff were very friendly.

Location is a bit of a secondary one but nice once you settle in !

We went late after the theatre, quick good food, lots of it and realy tasty, thankyou.

Excellent food and different from all the clone Indian restaurants in Exeter (and so many places) - you actually get something interesting and very distinct in each dish. We were there on a Saturday evening which was justifiably very busy but thus very noisy. Still stayed long enough to eat far too much! Great for the vegetarians in our party too.

Food is average and overpriced.Ambiene is good.

I visited last week with a large group of people for dinner. The food was amazing, so many flavours and things to try! Portions were such a good size and everything was so filling. Lovely atmosphere and staff were amazing and accommodating of our large group, over 20 people! Will defiantly be coming back and recommending to family and friends!

It was the best Indian meal I've ever had! From start to finish, the service and food were first class. They don't serve the usual boring meals that you get in other restaurants, and it was evident that you were eating quality produce. The staff were willing to advise on portion sizes and were spot on. We will definitely be returning.

Definitely different to your standard (sic) Indian restaurant with dishes from South India. Highly recommended for everything, food, service, atmosphere, etc. Went on a Tuesday evening, a party of twenty, and everything was impeccable. The breads are fascinating, none of your usual naan here.

Food was great. The beer was off, which they rectified. The temperature in the restaurant was well over 25 degrees. Just far too hot to eat in! Food was excellent.

Absolutely fabulous, food was amazing! Pepper chicken and Chicken rice was a lot of chicken! And the food tasted amazing. Not too hot either. The lime pickel with the poppadoms is really nice and hot though!

Think they forgot some people like to eat off a plate. Food was passable but felt more like a Chinese.

We turned up during their Onam celebration, amazing atmosphere! We had wished we had been a part of it. We went for my son’s birthday, he was so chuffed! Even though they were really busy, they still looked after us! Forgot to take photos, but we loved everything from the samosas through to the Chicken Masala Dosa and everything in between for a family of 5, ranging from 29-83! If you like the more authentic taste of India do not be put off with where the restaurant is!!

Absolutely delicious! We needed some lunch before heading back to London and picked this one based on reviews. Breads, curries, everything! Plus served quick and with a smile.

Lovely little restaurant with some interesting and amazing dishes. Can't remember the name of the cauliflower dish my party shared, but it was one of the best things I have ever eaten.

Not your typical indian restaurant I would not go again

My mum really enjoyed the food. She felt homemade food. And specially when you are on holiday for a week and get the food what you want to eat...it all tops it up. 😋 We all enjoyed their food.

I’m pleased to re-review Namaste and give 5 Star rating. Service, this time, was quick and efficient. The staff were charming and attentive. The food is still of the high quality as it was before and ample portions. The cuisine is South Indian, an enjoyable change from your standard tandoori. Give it a try!

Amazing food with excellent service from friendly staff

The chettinad chicken curry was amazing. Flavour was out of this world. Portion size was generous

Nice staff and a very good curry. However, their bread options are lacking. Not sure why they don't serve naan bread, which is standard. I even heard the guy tell another customer on the phone that they had no naan! Instead, they have a very thin chapatti or an oily parotta for £2.5 each.

Authentic south Indian restaurant in this region! Looking forward to going back again! A bit expensive but worth it!

Really had an amazing dinner❤️💯

Literally the best indian food we've ever tried and this is coming from a foodie who's had numerous Indian experiences in London and in India itself! Their dosas are huge, flavourful and yummy. We also had the butter chicken, lamb curry and fish mooli. The lamb literally falls apart by the slightest spoon press. All curries are VERY distinct and VERY flavourful. If we're ever back to Exeter, we will not try going anywhere else other than Namaste!

I had an amazing time at this restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was perfect. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dining experience. What I particularly loved about this place was the stunning selection of drinks and food, the service was great and the hygiene is on point. I would recommend this place to just hangout with your friends and family as well as a great spot for a date!

Heard a lot of great reviews and thought we should check it out. Sadly, I'm one of those oddballs who doesn't like too much spice and this place was too much for me. I ordered the Korma thinking I'd be safe but it was a heat that just built up over time. The rice was lovely and the parotta bread was lush. Service was pretty good on arrival but you need to prompt if you want to leave, don't hang about, you need to go to them not the other way around. I'm sure this place is lovely if you like spice but if you're more used to a mild sweet korma it might not be for you.

Best South Indian restaurant in Exeter. Good food and nice service.

Food is ok but restaurant people are impolite. They refused Indian customers and say lie that restaurant is closed. In front of me they refused 3 Indian people and allowed me because I was with my business partners from UK. Horrible behaviour

I went here for dinner a few nights ago. Honestly, I was quite disappointed with the quantity and prices. The flavour of the dishes were very toned down and didn't really appeal much. In terms of quantity, it was very less too. Quite disappointed with my experience.

It’s rare to find real Indian restaurants amidst many fake Indian food places run by some of ‘our neighbours’. Among those South Indian restaurants are scanty in Europe. Found this nice true (South) Indian restaurant. We had masala dosa, poori with curry, vada and onion bhaji. Loved and enjoyed the food which was near to authentic. The onion bhaji was a bit on the down side with soaked oil, slightly burnt and small portion for the size. Vada looked like double fried but tasted good. Really good service by the friendly staff. Will visit again and again to try most of the menu 😁

Passing on way to Cornwall we came across this place. Wasn’t expecting authentic Indian food outside London but we did! We’re veggies and loved it. Kothu was fab! Great staff too. Only downside was the place was very noisy (no sound buffers) and the floor was very sticky!

Excellent authentic Indian with dosas

Food was ok, but staff was messed up, we had to check the bill again as there were items added, which we didn't order, So just check the bill before you pay. If you have other options available prefer those, if this is the only option then go for it. There are many better options available nearby.

Loved this restaurant when it started out. But since then it has become overcrowded and very expensive. Haven’t gone back there in the last year and don’t plan on going in the future. Too expensive for the portions you get. Must say they do have the best dosa in town, but can’t enjoy eating it in a huge crowd.

We found this wonderful restaurant over a year ago during a trip to Devon but did not manage to make it before they closed. Today again during a day trip to and from Paignton we knew we had to visit! We were not disappointed and were met with not only wondeful food but brilliant customer service. Lets just say we left licking our fingers that how good it was! We will be back again...kudos to the chef and staff!
