My Shanghai Bar & Oriental Buffet in North Tyneside

Lovely staff. Went for dinner time. Scran was nice. Sweet & sour chicken Hong Kong style was delicious. They don't have any crumble on at dinner time. That's my only criticism. Big fan of the crumble but it doesn't come on until after tea time. Plenty free onsite & off site street parking. Also they should include drinks with the all you can eat.

HEALTH HAZARD place is full of black mould all over the celling walls around the windows and near the food. The manager said the landlord knows about it, I’m sorry you shouldn’t be allowed black mould near food

Nice food with plenty of dishes to choose from. The service staff cleared plates away quickly and were really friendly and polite.

Great Chinese 'All you can eat' buffet. The location is not ideal; a bit remote from public transport links. However, the place itself is great. A very large restaurant, a pub in a previous life, with many tables. The staff were welcoming and the service was very good. Food was piping hot and the choice / variety was more than enough, even for the fussiest of eaters. Drinks were reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Visited yesterday and now my 5 & 14 year old have food poisoning. Over £100 for 4 adults & 2 kids. I wish we had went to mcdonalds.

The food was average at best with not alot of choice and where I was sat the decor was poor and in need of painting. (Table 1).

Food quality has taken a hit, and the prices have gone up! I have been going since it first opened. Will give it one more try and if no change for better, Unfortunately it will be time to move on.

Best around 20 mile trip but worth it

Place needs a lick of paint and some seats need attention but the food, service and staff were spot on. Well prepared food very tasty and hot. I would say as far as buffets go its one of the best ive had. I would definitely recommend and definitely return

Went on Saturday 5th October. My and my son both now have food poisoning from this place. I called up to rectify it and all they could do is deny it was them, not even apologise. Anyways ill be taking this further and make sure the place is inspected. Definitely wouldnt recommend

Lunchtime is usually busy. Food is good quality and varied although a little expensive. Good luck with exiting the car park onto the Coast Road...

Food is great but their soap dispenser never works in the bathroom and I’ve seen people drop tongs and put it back in the food.

Fantastic beautiful food loverly restaurant clean fast service staff are fab as much as u like till u burst however can get pricey this isn't a weekly place try and go 12/ 1 dinnertime week day early evening is more weekends is more so stick to Mon-Friday soft drinks normally a pint of coke can become quite expensive so watch the money but other than that worth it I think 4 times a year

Two of us had our lunch on Saturday 11th Aug. Basic lunch menu and two diet cokes. Food was ok, been plenty times before. Paid by card and left a couple quid cash tip. Just seen my bank 5 days later and have been charged £37. Feel rather ripped off to say the least. Lesson learnt, if you go here CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE YOU LEAVE. Definitely won’t be going back.

Absolutely awful experience, first time visiting and I can honestly say I will not be returning. Food was barely warm and no taste to anything at all. The meat, sapavilly the chicken was increfibly dry. The staff were miserable and not welcoming at all. Awful!

Enjoyable afternoon lunch with great food and alway piping hot not like some buffets that barley warm.

What's not to like, all you can eat.

Went for the lunch session. A large selection of hot and cold on offer (although there wasn't any aromatic duck with pancakes as it says on the website/menu, very disappointed)... It's probably good value if you can eat yourself into oblivion. However, if you don't have a big appetite, then it's not the best value. The food was tasty, you can help yourself as many times you like and the staff were all very pleasant and helpful.

I'll be honest the food has been fantastic cannot knock it. Shocked at the prices for children (including toddlers) bit steep..... Good they have highchairs but prices seem always going up everywhere so best to ring ahead before going to double check. Also it doesn't open until bang on 12 so no point thinking about going earlier and sitting with a soft drink :) .

My absolute favourite Chinese buffet, My Shanghai food is restaurant quality at an excellent price. Both the lunch and dinner menus are extensive with something for everyone. With all meats being lean and excellently cooked. The char sui pork is a thing of beauty, rice perfectly cooked and all sauces are top class. I can honestly say that I really look forward to treating myself here (if I lived closer I'd be there daily). Highly recommend.

Went here health. I ate. Then... I left with a great present that would last the whole following week. Food poising.... happily I will never be coming back. Cook your food right for next time so the next people don't get ill.

Good oriental buffet with plenty of options. The staff are friendly and helpful and the service was great. The kids enjoyed helping themselves. My only con would be the range of desserts was very limited on the day we visited.

Sadly could not rate this place a zero, been going here for years but will never return, never seen or tasted food so bad. Very little to chose from presumably because Sunday lunch was on, the worst Sunday dinner I've ever seen. Watery mash and turnip, the meat looked like it had been there for hours extremely over cooked and dry, gravy was lumpy..... Could of put a hole in the wall with the chicken wings most of it was inedible, some of the soup bowls were dirty, restaurant itself felt grubby and dated, we got up and left. Manager didn't care a less either, will end up shut down this place.

Came today with 4 other people for a birthday the food was horrible either overcooked and left for hours or undercooked and mushy we all had 1 plate and left was so disappointing would never come back £85 down the drain

Its been a good few years since i have been here and food was amazing then and again now so keep up the good work amd service was great when asked, atmosphere although it was busy as we were there early evening a d some of the clients were a little louder than needed to be otherwise will make an effort to call again since food was that good will not leave it too long for a return visit

Taste for Germans who need to get used to it

We have been using this oriental buffet for the past 20+ years and have seen it gradually got down hill. Yesterday 6th of March 2024 was the last straw. Although we don't frequent the restaurant ie weekly we have been there often enough and spent enough to own shares in the place. The food was mediocre but it was edible, and hasn't change in the 20+ years we have been going there. However the price has tripled we paid £27.20, my husband and my self are now in our 70's and get the pensioners discount which to be honest isn't worth having. So sorry to say we won't be back

Not clean at all Hair in my food

I have always been a fan of this place and have been a regular customer for years, but unfortunately not anymore. Today, my family and I visited for my mother’s birthday and the food was absolutely disgusting. The fried rice was hard and crunchy as if it had been sitting there for days on end. The Chow Mein noodles were tasteless, burnt and stuck to the edges of the dish. The Egg Fo Yung was literally green and way over cooked. The battered food such as chicken nuggets and onion rings were so burnt they were literally inedible. Overall, the whole buffet was almost inedible and tasteless and as for the “desserts” it’s food that would be served at a toddlers birthday party, it’s literally just jelly, stale cubes of cake, cut up fruit, and tasteless ice cream. At the end of our meal, we went to pay and I told the man who was sorting our bill out that the food literally wasn’t fresh and was awful and he looked at us like we were stupid and lying. He had the cheek to say “why didn’t you tell the staff”?!?! Maybe because none of the staff come over to ask us how the food was, they were all talking almost each other and paying no attention to their job and customers. In the end, the man who was sorting our bill out only knocked a couple of pounds (literally) off our meals and had such a hostile attitude about it and also had the audacity to say “well this isn’t my restaurant” which really doesn’t matter, it’s the fact that there is customers complaining and it needs resolved! Avoid this place.

very disgusting place to eat, would not recommend. all 4 of us got food poisoning, the environment isn’t sanitary aswell as the plates and cutlery. we got sat next to mold on the window aswell as they did not wipe the table down. the staff are all low with no energy and seem like they don’t want to be here. plus they decided the child’s prices were based on height when there was 4 children here from ages 6-15 and still had to pay adult prices for 3 of them. not worth the money!!

Good food, good service, price is almost double what it use to be. Expect £20 a head before 6, £25-30 after 6. It's not really that affordable any more for a small family on a budget which is a shame.

The staff were nice, but the food was very disappointing. The beef was very tough and dry, the majority of dishes look and taste quite bland.. but when they're supposed to have a little kick to them, they are too much when it comes to being hot/ spicy. My sister always has a beef in black bean sauce, but couldn't have more than a couple of mouthfuls before needing to stop and have something else. Realistically, for the price per person on an evening buffet.. it is definitely not worth it unfortunately. They have the basics of battered food and curry sauce covered but most other options of dinner plates are very underwhelming for what they're charging.

Plenty of choice for starters, appetisers and dessert. Though, there wasn't much choice for main dishes, just the standard sweet and sour, black bean etc. I'd consider the price as steep (avg. £20pp for meal and drink) with this in mind... Otherwise, I would go again.

First time we have been yesterday, all the food was cold and very little variety was left. My partner has ended up ill with food poisoning and has been up all night vomiting has a fever and chills! Would not recommend this place and will definitely not be going back.

Amazing. The best all you can eat I’ve ever ate at. This place has quality and price down to a tee, perfect balance of the two. 90% of chinese takeaways I have had are worse than this all you can eat set up, which is insane, I see why it’s so popular. Everything well labelled Well cooked Great tasting Amazing selection It’s also amazing for people watching, watched some bloke shovel away 6 heaped plates which he had to balance on the way back to his table, I could only watch in awe as he shoved prawn crackers into the back of his mouth like some jaw dislocating snake, bloke didn’t even chew. Suppose it’s testament to the food! Keep up the great work!!

Well i must admit this was an experience we won't forget in a hurry! I phoned and asked to speak to the manager in august (whomever the man was that spoke to me i had assumed was manager) i asked if we could dine with midnight in his stroller. I was told yes of course that's fine!! So we went on friday as time passes so quickly...i initially thought we were getting vip treatment and we were pleased we found somewhere to dine with our boy. The food was pleasant other than the salad (prawns tasted bad) and the dessert choices weren't great. Sadly when we went to pay we were not only lied to saying no-one remembered me phoning (yet you remembered we had to travel 🤔) and we were told we couldn't come back with our boy!! 😱😡 Considering we were paying customers who ate quietly in a deserted area where there was only us and our boy...whom was sound asleep in his stroller being good as gold! Your complete change of attitude towards us has reflected on your review!! Would've been a good review if you hadn't had attitude problem and became hostile towards us! Such a shame as your only staf member i still appreciate is the english gentlemen that seated us! He was polite and kind . Unlike the blonde girl keep coming over and whomever the (gentleman "i say loosely btw as you weren't" was that tried to tell me i no-one remembered my call) so like we told you i am a google reviewer and we have plenty other places that are hospitable for us to dine. Word of advice work on your attitude as you could loose alot more customers than just us!!

The food was really nice and delicious.

I really enjoy my visits to this restaurant the food is excellent quality . This visit was marred by a noisy drunken man put on the next table. He abused the staff,and his loud swearing was not acceptable. Unfortunately this spoiled what otherwise was a great experience.
