Food choice limited and unwilling to change the menu in any way. Beans on toast is only served until 1100hrs, but you can still have beans with a jacket potato and a toasted sandwich at lunch, but not beans on toast. We tried 2 cakes (rolo slice and rocky road) - both were awful, full of sugar, soft when they should have been hard and did not taste good at all, they were left on the plate. Very expensive for an underwhelming lunch. The park attached to it is very poorly maintained and very disappointing. THere are hardly any animals to see and the play equipment has not been changed, fixed or upgraded in years by the looks of things. I had been a few years back and it was great, but it has not aged well at all.

A great wee place, even in the pouring rain. The emphasis is on proper cafe food (think soups, toasties and jackets) done really well and followed up with a gorgeous homemade cake. Friendly and attentive service and lovely views out to the reserve itself make for a very nice setting for a leisurely lunch or coffee and cake

Was staying Lochside for weekend visiting family. Was advised to call ahead as there were 7 of us all together to see if there would be a free table. Dogs not allowed us we were okay with that. Was told that we could walk him on the grass area if he needed too just before you come in. Staff were lovely and very informative about the nature reserve which unfortunately wasn’t open due to flooding. Excellent banter with one of the waitresses but they were all lovely and good with the kids. Foo was good just your normal sandwich and side etc. Cakes looked yummy. Lovely place to visit with kids

As a family we absolutely love Murton farm and it’s a wonderful spot for the wee ones. However this is probably the third or fourth time we’ve ordered food and been very underwhelmed. I ordered a panini for myself and one for my daughter and was told it would be about 20mins, which was fine….almost 40 minutes later they arrived. I would understand if they were super busy etc but it wasn’t and it wasn’t an overly complicated order - a cheese and ham panini! Also to note, that the kids cheese panini was two tiny squares of bread, my daughter was hungry again by the time we left. The girls who work there are all lovely and were very apologetic, no complaints there. It’s just quite disappointing that every time we have been, there always seems to be a substantial wait for food regardless of how busy it is. I understand a lot of small businesses are struggling with cost of living, increase in prices etc so would never want to judge too harshly but the kids panini was shockingly small for the cost. A bit of a disappointment but the rest of the farm is absolutely fab and worth a visit.

This is a lovely cafe location & nice & clean inside. We decided to go for lunch based on the fact that we have visited for cake & coffee several times & their cakes are lovely. Sadly it was a huge disappointment. Granted, their soup was lovely but my husband had the blt ciabatta with his & it was really poor. Meant to be bacon lettuce & tomatoe. One bit of bacon split in two in the whole thing, one slice of tomatoe cut in half & no lettuce just a morsel of limp leaves clearly from a salad bag. My husband hates complaining, so I quietly told the girl who served us & said for her to let the owner know. When we got to the till all she said was, "next time asl for extra bacon". If I had of been with anyone other than my husband, I would of refused to pay the full price but as I said, my husband hates making a fuss. I don't believe it's making a fuss, I believe you should get what you pay for. We understand times are tough & prices have to go up but ripping off customers is not the way to go. Sadly, my husband's says he will complain with his feet, by not going back. It's a shame to loose local custom from such a nice place & I would like to think this was a one off, but really there's no excuse for very meagre sparse food. It is more expensive at The Mill, but that's where we will be returning, as a sandwich/ciabatta is packed with filling & worth the extra cost.

I can't thank the ladies at murton enough. I visited one morning with a child that I support who has additional needs and is also in a wheelchair and the ladies was so accommodating. I asked for a hot chocolate to be nice and cool with extra napkins I also ordered a cup of tea and cakes. My tea bag was burst and without question they remade my tea while I was asking for this my service user had got hold of the hot chocolate and spilled it all over the floor. With a smile and a cheeky laugh the lady's cleaned this up (with my help) and without complaint. They put on the "farm video" also as we was unable to access the farm due to weather and we loved watching the animals going about their day. The lady's chatted to my service user who showed them how to say thank you in makaton and they said thank you in makaton to him for visiting. Without a doubt I would highly recommend a visit for anyone who supports someone with additional needs altho the coffee shop was quiet I am sure the service would be the same on each visit. Keep up the good work ladies and we will visit again soon.

Made a last minute decision to go out for a family lunch and was very disappointed with the quality and quantity of food. Ordered a baked potato with baked beans and could almost count the amount of beans put inside the baked potato. Very small portion of grated cheese in the cheese option too but could accept this a little easier as some cheeses are quite expensive. But baked beans can be purchased for around 30p a tin. Also ordered a cheese and ham toasted sandwich, and again there was so little cheese in it. In fact, suffice to say there was only one thin slice of cheese covering a quarter of the toastie. On bringing this to the attention of staff, the woman was very pleasant and apologetic and offered some cakes by means of compensation. By the time a second cheese toastie was served however, the coffee was cold. She confirmed she would bring the matter to the attention of the kitchen staff. Won`t be in a hurry to go back and will not recommend this cafe based on this visit.

We took our twin grandchildren who are just over two and half years old. Delightful looking place on entry but sadly in need of some money spent on it. Some of the toy cars and tractors were broken and the area where they were kept was very rough which made it difficult for the children to use them. Some of the wooden equipment looks old and worn, and the place had a general air of neglect. We couldn't see some of the caged birds as the grass was far too long in their compounds. Although I can understand the need for some growth to make the environment a bit more interesting for the chickens, the grass was very long which did not allow the birds to use all the area, only the little 'runs' they had made for themselves as they moved around. However the quality of the staff made up for the disappointment of the outside area. They were friendly and helpful and the food was well cooked and tasty in the cafe. We had used a discount voucher to gain entry but compared to other similar venues this place is kind of missing the opportunity to make a really good impression, I would have been really disappointed had we paid the full price.

We visited today for afternoon tea which we booked early to have as a late lunch (fab idea) and were so pleased we did. It was a damp, cold day so we didn't visit what looked like a lovely farm, but we do plan to go back. The Tearoom was warm, clean and modern yet homely and the welcome was friendly. The staff were really careful with our allergies, checking various things which meant we ate with confidence. Our choice of sandwiches arrived beautifully arranged on a huge platter, the bread was soft and fresh and they were generously filled. Now when it comes to cakes I'm hard to please but these did not disappoint. They brought out a cake stand with a lovely selection of really good quality home baked cakes and scones with portions of butter and generous dishes of good quality jam and whipped fresh double cream. My favourite cake was the lemon and coconut traybake which was moist and sweet yet lemony sharp, really superb. Even the coffee was good, piping hot and excellent quality. We were even offered a bag to take home the cakes we didn't manage which was a nice touch.Everything considered we thought this was excellent value and we won't hesitate to return.

Having frequented t the Tea Rooms many times, I was as always looking forward to my visit, prior to attending a meeting in ForfarI have never been disappointed with the food and the delicious home baking and the same still applies. On this particular visit, the tearoom was not busy, if my mind serves me correctly, there were 4 lots of customers, which was 4 tables bring used, including my table.I sat there for a considerable amount of time I noticed that the waitress was taking individual table orders then making the coffee etc then serving the table that she had taken the order from, before taking the order from the next table.A table of 3 who had been sitting since before I entered the tearoom were now having their order taken, as I am a cake lover, my order was only going to be a cake and a coffee. Having sat there for a longish period of time and my request was not for hot food, I asked politely if I could please order a Latte and a piece of sponge, to which the answer was returned, No,these people are next, orders are taken one at a time.As much as I love the home baking I was not prepared to wait at least another 15 minutes for a coffee and a cake.At the time of my recent visit there was a special voucher deal that I had intended purchasing for either lunch or afternoon tea. Needless to say I gave that a miss.I will at some point return because the home baking is very good, however, should I have the same experience again I will not return.Disappointed with my experience and lack of food, I visited a tearoom in Forfar prior to my meeting and had the best soup I have ever tasted.

The cafe has an excellent view over the loch, especially if it is warm enough to sit on the decking. Coffee is always beautifully made and the scones home made and fresh. Plenty for children to do as well as a lovely walk at back of car park. Not very well sign posted at start of walk and along the trail but worth finding. However do wear stout footwear as it can be very damp. There are also bird hides around the loch on the trail

The food in the tea room is just brilliant and fresh made. You have the choice of sandwich, soup or a main course and a great choice of fresh bakes and scones. Highly recommend this wee gem of a tea room.

We primarily went here as our Grandchildren wanted feed animals. Unfortunately not really a petting farm as you really do not get near the animals. Despite this the place has a lovely feel and the way the animals are penned across a large area is great as it allows children to run about without it being crowded. Sadly we could not find Floppy and Ernie the donkeys which was a little sad. We had something to eat in the Tearoom. The menu could do with having a little bit more variety such as ice cream for hot days like today. The food was fine not great but again there was a nice atmosphere.Murton Farm is a registered charity and all proceed go right back into the farm to help children / teens / young adults learning coping skills with the use of animals. Definitely worth a visit.

Had a great day out here. Kids loved running around and feeding the animals. We also had a sensational walk around the reservoir- so peaceful. Staff were all helpful and friendly. We finished the day with high tea in the farm cafe - delicious. Great Day Out!

After spending a couple of hours enjoying the facilities at Murton Farm animal park and outdoor play centre we decided to have a coffee and snack before we left. The cafe staff were attentive and friendly, the home baking was varied and of a very high quality, and it was a great way to finish our day out. The Tearoom itself is definitely worth a visit even if you're not actually using the farm facilities, as was clearly obvious by the number of couples that were doing just that. Recommended.

Cafe is quite basic but there is a selection of teas and small selection of cakes, only meringues for Gluten free the day we visited,Family friendly with a large parkland for running around with animals in pens. Also a play equipment area. Those interested in nature would enjoy a walk around the wetlands where many species of birds can be spotted.

Came here for a Saturday lunch, local to Forfar and always wanted to try and see the place as pass so much. A great little tea room, all clean and well kept. Plenty of staff on which is always good to see, and all were very friendly and of great service. All food we had was very tasty and plenty of it, we were full after our lunch which is always good! The home baking was delicious and will definitely be back for more. Having the farm makes it an ideal place for a day visit with a stop for some good homemade good afterwards!

We visited in the afternoon and there were two other tables occupied which was good as I find it is not really very pleasant to be the only customers. We were served quickly as was only to be expected and found the staff to be friendly enough and not as stated in previous reviews. The choice is as you would expect at lunchtime with the usual soup sandwiches etc but we both enjoyed what we ate and found the price and quality to be good.We didn't visit the farm so can't really comment.Lots of seating outside if the sun shines.

Lovely weather,so the sitting out experience was really enjoyable. Looking over a fabulous scenic view .Staff very helpful, and attentive ,food excellent.Unfortunately the resident animals were not so sociable ,other than the various hens which we saw no one else appeared . I appreciate that animals maybe sleeping etc however there is a vast amount of land, and you are charging an additional entry fee to see the animals. Perhaps a few more ,and of differing species too would be nice ?Will be back though ...but not to visit the animals if there are so few !

My husband and I visited the coffee shop on Friday 20 May. Very disappointing. Staff very unhelpful, they did not want to be there and the cakes looked as they had been sitting there for a few days. Carrot cake loaf, the icing pretty hard not what you would except. Won't be back.

Although the food was fresh and tasted good I found the staff to be not very welcoming. The words Hello, thank-you aren't hard to use.

We have been to murton farm a few times. I love going seeing the animals and having wonder around. Finishing the trip with a bite to eat. The farm was as good as ever, but the cafe wasn't as good. Food was disappointing and staff not as cheerful as normal. I hope we just got them on a bad day.

What a great night, Had booked the Private Dining Room for a special occasion with my family. We were met by Jon the Restaurant manager shown to the PDR. Jon was very attentive and knowledgeable and was able recommend perfect drink choices to go with our fantastic food. All my family enjoyed themselves. All staff we came across were great and certainly know how to enhance customer expierence.

Great, understated restaurant. The soup was a very generous portion and very tasty. Also lived the lemon and blueberry sponge.

Terrible, don't go unless you don't mind it being dirty and leaving smelling like a chip pan. The picnic table, bench, floor, skirting boards were filthy and there was a blue haze around open plan kitchen. Extractor fans were not in use, we left reeking of fat. Our meals were terrible and the server looked like she'd just walked in off the streets, leggings in socks, trainers and a black hoody. When it originally opened,2020, it had so much promise.

The room was small but had everything you needed in it had a hospitality tray and en suite. breakfast isn't included but we paid extra for it and was worth the money.about a 20 minute walk from carnoustie train station . Was above a pub but found it very quiet. Staff were very helpful.
