Muro Lounge in Northumberland

Now this place does breakfasts that will set you up for the day ... all day. Plenty of non meat options and superb value for money. Food served piping hot AND on a hot plate. Get in! Absolutely delicious and service was prompt and very friendly. If we lived closer, this would be a regular haunt for sure.

A great place to eat and relax! Perfectly prepared food from a wide range of choices, including outstanding vegan options. Great range of cocktails - the strawberry sling being especially good, I think. Service could not be better - the staff are friendly, approachable, and super efficient, even when busy. Overall atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxing; the decor is stylish and interesting - the designer has done an amazing job, in my opinion. This is my go to spot for a meal and / or cocktails in Hexham - I highly recommend it - the ne plus ultra of cafe bars.

Tried Muro on recommendation of daughter. Passed by a few lunch times and noticed it has been busy so tried it for an early dinner tonight. Service very good, lovely lady friendly and cheery, all food arrived as ordered and very quickly. Hubby had a burger with a few tweaks, as requested. I had tapas and it was really great. Will definitely be back. Not the cheapest place but worth paying for the quality of what we had. Slight niggle at cost of a mocktail, as very small but tasted so good. Thank you Muro, be back soon.

Impromptu visit to Hexham and dropped in for evening meal. Exceeded my expectations. Nice vibe… great table and great to visit with family members as very easy going with great menu. Games for children to keep them occupied if you have younger ones. Staff friendly and food was very good and best I’ve had eating out in a long time ! I opted for a feta honey tapas as a starter and halloumi fries! .. then a lounge bacon cheese burger with fries. The right amount of seasoning, served hot and the coleslaw was amazing ! 10/10

“Wait to be seated” was the the sign - “Sit anywhere you like” was our only greeting . The place was 10% filled. We sat in a comfortable spot, at a table that hadn’t been cleared but had nice seats. After waiting 15mins I asked if someone was going to take our order… “Sorry” was the reply, “I should have told you at the door to order at the bar”. So I did, ordering Tuesday tapas. The Italian wine was out of stock so I went with the house red. Another “sorry”. 45mins after arriving, the food did. We’d watched it sitting for 7mins waiting for a server to bring it to us…. I almost collected it myself! But thought it interesting to time how long it took… “sorry for the delay”. We asked if the table could be cleared from the previous diner. “Sorry of course”. And the red wine..? “Oh sorry that hadn’t been brought over”. It was very average, even for house wine (The cheap one I get from Aldi is better). If the food had been hot it would have been better - no fault of the kitchen . Hot Wings were ok, Beef in flatbread very tasty, but squid was more breadcrumbs than fish, and all were lukewarm due to the slow service. Then the quiz started… no-one mentioned the quiz when we arrived. Sorry guys - not your finest hour. I gave you 2 for the nice decor.

We made the 'mistake' of not checking ratings beforehand. We were very pleasantly surprised. It's a Middle Eastern/Spoons place where we were actually greeted by staff. Food was good. We were checked on. No complaints at all (except that the website is a bit difficult).

A fantastic find on a Saturday evening. Huge range of food to choose from and delicious. Also they gave a good selection of gluten free and vegan choices. Live music from Chris kept us entertained. All staff lovely and attentive. Special shout out to Henry for his polite and helpful service 😃 So good we came back for breakfast, again a huge choice. Will definitely be back.

Called in today for lunch. Nice place with great atmosphere. Staff very friendly and attentive. Good vegetarian options. Food was really lovely as was the coffee. Would definitely go again and recommend.

We arrived in Hexham looking for somewhere to have a late breakfast/brunch. Found the Muro at the start of the High street and as it was dog friendly so we went in. We were greeted by lovely friendly staff, we were shown to our table and the dogs were given fresh water and biscuits.🐾 Our food came out in good time and was plentiful, well presented and delicious. Highly recommend if your looking for a place to eat or to have a drink that is dog friendly then go no further.

We visited here this week, we always visit a ‘loungers’ when we visit a new place as we absolutely love the chain. As always, the decor was lovely. We were seated and given menus. The waitress wasn’t very attentive, I had to request a child’s menu at the bar after about 20 minutes. ( 2 little ones with us). The food arrived and in all honesty it was disappointing. Some food was cold on at least three of our plates, my daughter’s rice was inedible. Nobody checked on whether our food was ok. We won’t be put off from visiting loungers again as we have always enjoyed, although we would think again if we visit Hexham again.

Super friendly restaurant right in the middle of Hexham, just off the market Square. And very DOG FRIENDLY. Deceptively large, with plenty of large, well spaced out tables, comfy chairs and sofa's. The restaurant was quite busy with a lively buzzing atmosphere but not too loud or noisy, just lively, friendly and just right. Really interesting menu, with everything from lite snacks, sandwiches, cakes,tapas, chilli dishes,burgers and steak. We opted for a 3 tapas selection as a shared starter followed by the brisket chilli -really generous pieces of brisket, lovely- and the steak & frites, cooked medium rare-perfectly. Our dishes were all really delicious. Although they were short staffed during our visit, the staff there, (bar, restaurant and kitchen staff) were all really pleasant, warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. They even provided and topped up a dog water bowl for our dog during our meal. Drinks selection from the bar was really good too. All in all, a really nice night, relaxed, unhurried with great food and drinks in a really interesting venue. We will definitely visit again.

I visited this place when it first opened but didn’t leave a review as there were obvious teething problems Fast forward to today, there is an extensive menu but the execution is average for a price to standard ratio. It’s a huge footprint being an old Argos, but during the week it can feel quite empty with little atmosphere The beer is expensive, £6.05 a pint. They are missing out on a lot of drinking trade. There are alot of pubs in hexham with better atmosphere and cheaper drinks If the aim is to focus on food, the output needs improving I hope I am proved wrong as this could be a great addition to hexham.

Really wouldn't recommend. Absolutely overpriced me and my friends on the food. Food was terrible quality. There was a jar of wasabi pees and I asked if they where just to have. Women said yes and charged me 3 quid. Didn't tell me I had to pay otherwise id of said no as there was no price near the wasabi pees. Ordered the honeycomb drink and it tasted nothing like, just milk and coffee. Super disappointed. The fries tasted weird so me and my friend left them. However the staff where nice for the most part. And the interior of the place was interesting and cool. wouldn't recommend going for price wise and quality of food.

Needs improvement - 40 minute wait for a hot chocolate and a coffee with 1 teacake which was burnt and cold. Had to ask twice where our order was. Table behind us leant over and said they'd been waiting an hour for 4 hot drinks and 2 breakfasts. Had ordered and paid on the app. Otherwise, we would have asked for our money back and long since left. 2 star because the staff are friendly enough and it's not their fault. That said, we counted only 6 or 7 other tables with people sat, and 4 staff on the floor. I'm not sure being understaffed is the only issue here, and management seem to sit an awful lot in the corner on a laptop. Nice decor, could be great, at the moment it's really poor.

Great atmosphere. Unfortunately didn't have the booking I'd made which I would have been angry with if there hadn't been space, however this wasn't the case. Extensive and interesting menu: there was lots of choice. My food (tapas) was delicious and interesting. I also tasted my friends, also good. Liked the surroundings, and could imagine a good night out there. Also dog friendly, a great plus!

I wanted to try this place as its new in Hexham. But I won't be going back. Ordered cheesy garlic flat bread and it tasted like a spoonful of salt. A member of staff came to check if everything was alright with the food. I mentioned the amount of salt on the garlic flat bread, their response was 'ooh little heavy with the salt flakes?'. No need to pour salt flakes on it. Ordered from the tapas menu for the main course, the Meatball Marinara was freezing cold. It must of been left in the kitchem waiting to be brought to the table. This seems to be the normal when you look at previous reviews. I won't be going back or recommending it for food.

My husband and I were visiting the area and after a pleasant couple of hours wandering around Hexham decided to try here as we like the Cosy Club in York and thought it would be of a similar standard to there. How wrong we were!! We waited to be seated, eventually the young chap behind the bar took us to a table, leaving us menus. We waited a while for our order to be taken, so my husband decided to order via the app. The drinks arrived fairly promptly. The place was not busy, we noticed orders going out, and as I was facing the kitchen I could see that in some cases food was sitting for a while before being taken to the table. There was a lady at a table on a laptop who I assume is a manager? She brought these dishes to the waitresses attention (the waitress being on the mobile phone at the time) she walked away from her and ignored her, leaving the somewhat dumbstruck staff member to take the dishes. I noticed a plate of food arrive and sit there, meanwhile others were being served around us, including people that had arrived after us. I mentioned this, and they then went and had a word with the kitchen, the dish that had been sitting there for nearly 20 minutes was my husbands, mine arrived at the same time and was nothing special. I had ordered poached eggs on muffins with mushrooms and spinach, the mushrooms were shriveled baby buttons, and some of the spinach had somehow got burnt, no idea how! My husbands dish comprised of hot and cold elements, and beans. Needless to say the beans were congealed and the red onions and feta were now warm. He mentioned to the chap that it had been sat there for a while and he said yeah sorry, let us know if it's not alright and we'll get you something else... The waitress however came over and apologised and had arranged for a new dish to be made. This is the only reason I have given this 2 stars, when it really only deserves 1. It was sad to hear the same waitress say she wasn't paid enough for this and she's on a 7 day a week contract, I do hope that the senior management are reading all these reviews which are essentially saying the same thing even if they are not replying.

Our first visit to Muro Lounge in Hexham. Early evening meal. The best burgers we've had in a long time, fresh tasty trimmings and crispy fries! Drinks good too. Efficient, friendly service. Spacious but cosy, love the decor! We will definitely be back.

Some of the worst food and drinks I have ever had. This place will not survive unless they pull their socks up! Very sad as it’s lovely inside but that is about it.

A very mixed experience. We were going to forum to see a show and thought this would be a good place nearby to eat beforehand. While the meals were pleasant the fried chicken was dry and the truffle chicken dish lacked flavour. The steak was great, the lamb flatbread just tepid. We ordered dishes as starters which didn’t arrive so we cancelled them as the mains had arrived! Sticky toffee pudding very poor, no sauce, just fry with a bit of ice cream. This place promises much with the decor but the staff dress was very very shabby indeed. Service poor…. Maybe it’s a place for coffee during the day rather than dinner.

We ordered through the app and the drinks arrived very quickly, food not long after. All dishes were delicious and served piping hot. All the staff who served us were efficient and friendly. Would definitely revisit if we came to Hexham again

Tepid food and coffee drinks that took ages to arrive. Really doesn't understand why the food was not piping hot as the place was very quiet. Don't think I'd return.

These Loungers are springing up everywhere. Decided to give this one a go and it pretty decent, it looks like a scaled down version of a Cosy Club….someone told me it’s the same company. It’s very shabby chic, service was prompt and polite, good atmosphere and busy The chicken and avocado burger was superb ….the pulled chicken dish wasn’t as good…. Prices are about right

Great setting but lamb sawama served cold, flagged this and was told its a cold dish, I don't think so, understaffed too such a shame 😕

When I go to a new venue which has just opened I never normally give them a review until they have settled in and have getting in to the swing of things. But after having four visits I do not see any improvements. Our first visit consisted of us turning up and waiting for someone to seat us but repeatedly got ignored. All you have to do is make eye contact with the customers and say we'll be with you in a moment or give them a nod . Eventually a young chap came to us but couldn't find out booking he went backwards and forwards asking what name was it booked under then back again how many was it for and we stood at the door waiting all this time. Eventually he moved some tables together then all was sorted. We have up waiting to get drinks and went to the bar and got them ourselves. Not a great first impression. We've been for drinks since and watched in dismay as a lady with long hair repeatedly removed her hair bobble then tied it back up again without washing her hands then picking up plates of food from the hatch and taking it to customers WOW. We sat and wondered why on a very quiet night were we surrounded by dirty tables when a senior staff member was just pondering in front of the bar WEIRD! Today we had some snacks and both had tea. The teapots were beyond filthy. I wouldn't expect this from a greasy spoon let alone a big chain.

A very attractively designed interior and is dog friendly. Unfortunately is doesn't know whether it wants to be a café or a restaurant. If you just want coffee and a cake there is very little choice. It has on the menu Chocolate Brownies. Beware though, you can now only have it from the pudding menu with ice cream! Pleasant staff but it needs more of them as it does have a large seating area.

Poor experience. We trialed the restaurant and bar for drinks, we were greeted by a snappy rude female, who couldn't smile even at our 10yr old daughter. For a new business to the area I was surprised by the lack of care to welcome customers. I then saw equally bad service reviews...Muro Lounge you need to work harder on your service.

Called in for coffee and cake having found this cafe open on New Years Day, and dog friendly. The menu was so inviting we decided to have tapas first! Staff were very friendly and made quite a fuss of our dogs. Coffee could have been hotter but the food was really good. Service for dessert was slow but I got the impression they'd let some staff go early. We will definitely go again.

Just what Hexham needed. Great food in a relaxed atmosphere at a reasonable price. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit with friends. Definitely will return. All staff extremely helpful and very friendly.
