Muriel's Cafe Bar in Belfast

Used to be my favourite bar, always good cocktails and nice chatty staff…seems to have gone to the dogs a bit, no atmosphere and cocktail I had was really poor. Bar staff all seemed young and uninterested, there used to be a nice mix of experienced staff but that’s all gone now…just seems to have a cheaper feel now with no effort.

Best burger I had in Belfast. Had a dandy yarn with both the bartenders and made for a dandy afternoon with a few drinks and a few beer. I'll be back again !

Just charged £7.02 for a pint of Corona and a Water. Cheers boy who kept fixing his gold watch! Spent over £40 next door in your restaurant too! Cost of living crisis doesn’t mean anything to this place and clearly happy to rip off customers for a glass of tap water.

Amazing experience, had such a lovely time around the staff & the food had been lovely. I do recommend and once I return to Ireland I’ll give another visit!

Visited early on Saturday evening, wasn’t particularly busy. Cocktails were good. Unfortunately all of the bar staff were unwelcoming, unfriendly…. no smiles , nothing infact. Very cold. Hospitality…? Customer service really needs work.

Havent been here for about a year and so disappointed with the place. We usually spend from lunch time until 5.30 ish as gins & cocktails were always delicious. Today I got a Brockmans Gin served in a Beefeater Gin glass with not even a slice of lemon, even the worst bars give you lemon or lime. Thought id change to Hendricks next as its always served with lovely thin sliced cumcumber, but NO, nothing, not a thing in it but ice. I asked the girl if she could add a garnish and she came back with a slice of lime. Seriously poor gins in what was always a fab gin bar. We noticed going in that it was unusually empty, now we know why. Will not be back.

I would not understand any circumstances have a drink here again. Purchased a £37 round of drinks and they closed the upstairs room after less than 5 minutes. No other seating available and refused to give us a refund. "There stand in the bar/outside or leave"..... Literall quote from the "manager"....... Complete joke. Way better bars in Belfast, avoid

Cosy side street bar, open til late with friendly staff. First time back for 20 odd years, gents dont leave it too late to visit the bathroom, its 2 floors up.

One of my favourite places or should that be Palace as in gin Palace. Having said that it is a small Palace for Muriels who worked day and night to make ends meet. They serve a great selection of gins and the knowledgeable staff will advise on the perfect serve. There is a selection of tonics and you can specify your own mix if you prefer. Alas they no longer serve honeycomb with Jawbox so explore the rest of the menu. They also serve beer and food - don't get distracted from your mission. Update in Dec 2023 staff are so knowledgeable about the gins anymore nor the perfect serves so a little disappointing in that regard. I long for the good old days.

Can't comment on the food as I didn't have any. Just had a few drinks. Quirky little place.

This place has completely gone to hell.Awful staff who just hung around the bar laughing together.I went to the bathroom to find there was no toilet paper.Some random guy brought a dog into the bar left it behind the bar!The price of drink is outrageous!This bar used to be class...no more!

Indoor/ outdoor seating. It's on a road, so not as calming as the main square. The inside is lovely. There's facilities but no toilet seats. The staff are really lovely and welcoming and the menu is vaste, personally as a vegetarian I love the blue cheese sauce with grilled eggs and vegetables, for meat eater there is a piggy platter. Which they also make as a sharer. There's also some ice creams and desserts on order the fruit cheese cakes looks amazing. And plenty of great sights on the road that Marie's is based on, worth a visit.

Food is ordered from next door business Pablo's. Recommend Tacos. Drinks and atmosphere excellent as always

This bar is famous for the ladies' lingerie hanging from the ceiling near the bar (all regularly laundered so we were told!) and the nude photos in the bathrooms! Barmen were more than happy to take the time to tell us the stories of the history of this lovely little bar. We visited on a sunday night and it was very quiet so we had a choice of seats and the bar staff were always free to take our order :-) The cocktails were all delicious and very well made, around £10 each. The seats were comfortable, the service was excellent and the toilets were clean. We would recommend a visit, as we tried several different cocktails from the menu and they were the tastiest cocktails we've had in a while.

An eclectic mix of decor makes this bar just lovely. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food is very well sourced, cooked and presented. Love the cocktails.

Don't come here if you are short of time. Long wait for drinks, bar staff uninterested in contact with customers. Very slow behind bar. Dirty glasses everywhere. Used to enjoy this bar, won't be back unfortunately.

Great little place. Well worth a visit

Lovely quirky bar. We ordered a French Martini and an Espresso Martini cocktails. My espresso was the best iv ever had..the upstairs is lovely, great window seats, toilets are spotless. Lovely staff, very attentive. Will definitely call again

This was one of the dirtiest bars we had a drink in last night in Belfast. The tables outside were absolutely filthy, over flowing ashtrays and glasses. Clearly hadn’t been cleaned all night. After cleaning 3 tables myself and leaving glasses, over flowing ashtrays and dirty cloth on bar counter they continued to sit there for the rest of our duration. The toilets were equally as filthy. In fact I don’t think I’ve seen as bad in a long time. Definitely require more staff to keep on top of the tables and toilets. I’d not be recommending for this reason.

Highly recommend giving muriels a go! Beautiful atmosphere, amazing service. Great for newlyweds if your after a tasty burger and some loaded fries! As well as beautiful drinks!

Didn't eat here, but it's a nice quiet bar very central and decent atmosphere. Could do with a better selection.of IPAs but hey.

I cant score the food as we never had any. My mother in law, brother and law my wife and myself went here to celebrate my wife's birthday. The cocktails we're very good and reasonably priced for Belfast at around £10 per drink they all enjoyed them i had coffee as designated driver it was good also. The bar staff we're very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was great 👍

OMG! What has happened to Muriels? I haven't been for a while but decided to go for a few drinks with friends last night. Place looks disgusting. Rubbish on floor inside and tables hadn't been wiped down from who knows when. Wouldn't set foot in the place again. Real shame as it used to be lovely wee bar.

Very disappointed last nite went for birthday drinks with friends place was disgusting! Drink spilt all over the stairs tables disgusting hadn't been cleaned. Sticky Dirty glasses and surfaces. Not busy 3 staff standing behind the bar 1 could have been collecting dirty glasses and wiping tables! Won't be back 🤢

Cocktails weren’t 10/10 unfortunately and I had high hopes after hearing good reports from a friend. Nowhere to sit as it was a busy night. Definitely get in there early. Questionable decor downstairs, quirky!!

No Irish coffee instead we had Expresso Martini ! Good choice !!

Great spot for a quick drink with a friend if your in the town. Usually busy but if you can get a table your elected. Nice staff good atmosphere.

Was in Pablo's (a burger place that seems to be connected to Muriel's) next door. They could not serve drinks - customers had to go to Muriel's to get a drink (???). Bar was quiet, barman was making cocktails, but did not acknowledge me waiting until he finished. The guy did not look well either. I like the dive-bar look in general, but this place just looks bad. Give Pablo's a miss too. Nice server, but food was mediocre and the whole set up was bad, so avoid both Muriel's and Pablo's. They need to hand the reins over to an outfit that cares.

Not much of a menu. Delightful cocktails. Interesting ambiance, not sure about the undies strung up above the bar but it's cosy upstairs.

It used to be my favourite place for a cocktail in Belfast, and was really looking forward to tasting their flaming zombie again tonight. They must have run out of lighters or inspiration, or both, as my zombie was not flaming, more like a pineapple juice with foam and a slice of lime. Really disappointing plus very expensive (£16 for a pint and a non-flaming zombie)

The gf and I were looking for some quick and dirty street food before a flight back home and Pablo's came up. They advised us to take a seat next door in Muriel's (their sister business) and order in there. Burgers and fries arrived quickly, and were exactly what we needed. Great vibes, and drinks are banging too.

A lovely spot in Belfast for a drink if you can manage to find a table. Able to order food from Pablo's next door and have it delivered (including gluten free options!) which is brilliant. Not the cheapest at £10 a cocktail but happy to pay it to get a table to yourselves!

Midweek evening visit. Small crowded space. Music was too loud but maybe we're getting old. It was very expensive and the cocktail was below par. We were disappointed. Stayed for one drink.

Love love love the decor upstairs! Not much seating but just a great cosy little spot. Dark and moody eclectic bar. Nightmare lifting a tray of cocktails upstairs mind you. Not sure if there’s toilets downstairs but doubtful. Don’t know how much the cocktails are as there was just a list of names but they were drunk anyway!

Nice wee bar, Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. A lot of cocktails ordered so if you're just in for a pint there can be a bit of a wait to get served. They could do with some heaters for the outside space.

Overpriced badly made cocktails..

We didnt eat. Venue is Cool as a cucumber, friendly staff, superb cocktails, nice beer, gorgeous sexy people. Hidden gem. I'll defo be back again and again. So much cooler than the fluffy faux irish bars in cathedral quarter. This felt real not touristy. Music was quality soul indie and classics too

The place was freezing with cold air coming from different doors and windows. The bar service was comical, I gave up trying to buy another drink and I noticed others giving up waiting and walking out. Pity because it has been better in the past.

Visited here on a Sunday afternoon and all I can say was it was truly awful. Poor service, no pints on draught and I think they had forgotten to turn the heating on, and just to top it off the toilets looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a week. Certainly a big change from the last time I was there which I couldn’t fault. Really disappointing and was embarrassed to take my friends here when I had highly recommended it previously. Will maybe give it another chance in a few months and I really hope they do improve because it’s suce a lovely and lively bar at its best.

On the way back from a Muriel 's Cafe Bar on 12-14 Church Ln with my friends last month, our car suddenly ran out of gas. Fortunately, a friend said that there was a good gas station called Go nearby. It was very late at that time. Unexpectedly, the gas station was still open, and the service staff had a very good attitude.

Great bar and atmosphere. Music was top and some fun decor.

We were upstairs just sat down with our drinks, within 10 mins we were asked to move downstairs by as they were cleaning up. Ok, we moved downstairs 10 mis later asked for last orders which was fine, ordered two drinks, they arrived, great. Two mis later staff then stood over us before we could drink what was just paid for. We felt very uncomfortable and felt like we were no longer wanted, we asked for plastic glasses so we could take our drinks away only to be told "we don't have plastics" is it too much to expect a reasonable amount of time to consume drinks purchased at last orders? Very disappointed. Don't take money from customers if you're not willing to allow them time to consume it. Very disappointed with overall service.

Great venue and staff. Booked upstairs for birthday party and super night.

Such a beautiful bar in Belfast, brilliant interior and so quirky with outside tables if you need. Sadly let down by the guinness while doing a pints of Belfast Bar Crawl but can't fault it any other way

Realy great vibes and atmosphere with wonderfull staff. Love this place but I can't recommend the fast food of the place next door, you get from, when you order food. Especialy the hot chicken wings are too hot 🔥to eat, in my opinion. The burger was very good but packed for take away, which I don't like when you eat in a terrace or bar.

Called in with hubby on 24th July. Liked the frontege and decided to give it quick look, wow, loved the inside. Haven't visited Belfast in years, we were waiting for train to Dublin and had a few hours to spare, so what a find. Staff were great and got the low down about the history of hhe place, very interesting!!. Decor is intune with the history, brilliant decision to keep it real. We had a tapas each and two beers, would have stayed longer, but the train was calling us. Definitely be calling back again..Great job guys x
