After reading all the reports about the best pint of guinness in Manchester, I gave it a go. Puzzling to see security staff outside, but once inside it was nice to hear Irish songs being sung by a girl playing guitar, with the sights of rows of pints awaiting topping up. I took my turn to order and waited patiently. The resulting experience left me disappointed. Instead of the expected smooth and creamy taste, it was replaced with a bitter drink that struggled to cling to the glass. A second pint was just as poor. Maybe it was an off-day, but I'll try again at a later date. Sorry guys, but it's not even the best pint of Guinness in Deansgate.

Used to be a very good night out in mulligans I went regularly over the last 6 years. Since the extension upstairs and the influx of new door staff the place has gone backwards, very rude and overly aggressive. 7.50 for a Guinness didn't really put me off untill upstairs opened and the quality went through the floor. Mulligans HAD a good reputation for a decent Guinness, they seemed to be doing everything right, line cleaning, line length, glass washing etc but extending the lines hasn't worked upstairs the Guinness in on par with spoons at 3 times the cost Resting trays of glasses on open bins behind the bar doesn't help either, it will explain the smell. Business may be good now but this place will go backwards incredibly fast as the prices they now need to charge require all aspects of the experience to be premium, the existence of this place revolves around a premium price point for the black stuff. The Guinness has taken a huge hit, standards have fallen and gobshites on the door are killing the local trade.

One of our group has severe hair loss and we explained it made them uncomfortable and asked if the one member could keep it on (we were basically the only customers). We would totally understand if this person had a cap on, but in the month of December a Santa hat is expected. This is ridiculous. To top this off, the door staff were incredibly rude. On my previous visits this pub was The Waggon and Horses. I first drank here in 1974 when it served real ale. As Mulligans it has been keg only for about 34 years. Nice pub. My wife and I recently visited Mulligan's Manchester during a day trip from Dublin. Having heard so much about their famous pint of Guinness, reputed to be the best outside of Ireland, I was eager to try it. When we arrived, the place was buzzing with activity, and there were queues to get into the bar. To avoid the wait, we decided to head upstairs instead. The atmosphere was lively, and the crowd added to the charm of the place. However, I found the pint a bit disappointing. Perhaps it was because of how busy it was, or maybe the pints served in the main bar are indeed better. That said, the overall experience was enjoyable, and I’m determined to give Mulligan’s another chance. Next time, I’ll make sure to try the pint directly from the bar and hopefully discover what makes it so famous. Looking forward to visiting again!

Mulligan's used to be one of, if not the 'best pint' in Manchester, and arguably the UK. However, since their recent social media stardom, the prices have gone crazy and their quality dropped. £7.30 for a pint of Guinness is beyond a joke, more expensive than some places in London and equally as expensive as an airport pint. The pint itself is good, but nothing special. It's all the same stuff which is brewed in Dublin, shipped here, then sent to pubs across the UK. Just over a year ago, it was the best place for a pint, but since then everyone else has upped their quality of pints and you'll find far better pints for £1.50 - £2.00 less within the same city.

Also beware that I was overcharged significantly for one round- fair enough mistakes happen and they held up their hands. BUT my refund was in cash (despite being told previously it was card only due to a lack of change?) and was in a large amount of coins. Not good. Idiotic discriminatory security/bouncers whatever ruin everything. I went here earlier on this year to experience the Guinness and it was amazing. This was mid afternoon and there were no bouncers, the guy at the bar was really friendly and had a good chat with him. I was wearing a hat. I was in Manchester for a gig just this last Thursday 26/09/24 and me and a friend decided to walk to Mulligans from our hotel after my good experience. This was at about 5-5.30pm and we were excited to get to the pub especially after our 20 minute walk. Then we were met with a typical rude, aggressive, power gone to his head doorman. No, 'hello', 'good afternoon' or ' how are you?' straight into. 'you'll have to take your hat off if you're going in'. I asked "permanently?" And the obnoxious doorman replied "yeah". I said "I'll leave it" and left. His whole attitude in this short but patronising exchange was off. Pathetic. To put this into perspective I was wearing a flat cap, smart black jacket, black trousers and shoes. I have seen videos on the website of many people wearing hats inside, especially on St Patrick's Day. I also suffer from very bad anxiety, self esteem issues and I am very self conscious. I ALWAYS wear a hat. If this is part of the dress code then it is absurd and discrimination and a ridiculous way to lose business. I really hope this was just the doorman being a c u next Tuesday and he gets told where to go. I'm not paying £7 per pint to feel uncomfortable and be told what to wear. I had enough of that at school. PATHETIC!!! I'm so petty that I take great happiness in the fact that while I was having one of the best nights of my life that bouncer was stood out in the rain and cold. He could probably have done with a hat come to think of it. Won't be returning unless I get a satisfactory response.

Me and a mate here on a Saturday and tried out the new upstairs area. It’s a great setup – plenty of room, with different levels, live music going, and the sport on TV. Definitely a good spot for a few sherbets. Goes without saying, the Guinness was obviously excellent –likely top 3 in Manchester. They’ve really nailed it. The only downside was the price – somewhere around £7.50 a pint, which feels a bit steep. I get that they’ve gained a bit of attention recently, but it seems like they’re pushing it. One thing we noticed was the number of bouncers around. They were all over the place, so they must expect, or possibly deal with, a fair bit of trouble. Didn’t bother us, but it’s something you can’t miss. All in all, it’s a solid place – just a shame the prices are as steep as they are.
