Mughli Restaurant+Charcoal Pit in Manchester

Food was, in some parts great, in others poor. I know they say “charred not burnt” but, a couple of pieces in my wife’s chicken tikka masala were so “charred” they were hard. The mixed grill however was great. The service we received last night was quite poor, slow and very hap-hazard. My food came out first and I was nearly finished by the time that my wife was served her main, to top it off my nan came out after I’d finished my whole meal.

Scorpian prawn starter isnt worth it. Half cooked not taste good enough. 5pound per 1pice prawn it's too much and minimum order two piece. Go akbars prawns dinamite gives you better quantities with taste. Not properly marinated aswell. Irresponsible plate ever. Based on price curry is too less not enough for 2naans. It's better to go akbars restaurant in town.

I don’t get all the 5 star reviews. I ordered the black daal and kidney bean curry with rice The curry was extremely spicy. Not fresh chillies just literally chilli power. I LOVE spicy and always eat spicy food. But this level of spice was horrible. It was like someone accident dropped the chilli powder jar into the food. The rice was topped with msg stuck together rock hard fried onion I assume. The rice tasted old. My date when ordered asked for something the least spicy and the waitress said he can order chips (in the most serous way) he got the butter chicken and said it was ok. No body once came checked on us or asked to ask how the food was. They even added a service charge which I thought was hilarious.

My wife and I arrive at around 8pm on Saturday without a booking. There was a short wait of around 10 minutes which is reasonable. Food - 6/10 We ordered the Scorpion Prawns (which is lobster tail) which were good but nothing extraordinary. The Leopard Roll was good, and I’d definitely have this again. The Butter Chicken was decent. Service - 2/10 Servers came over twice to ask us for drinks orders but told us they couldn’t take our food order. We finally ordered around 10 minutes after asking for someone to take the order. There was no table water, and no servers came over during our meal to ask if we needed anything which meant we had an entire meal without drinks. Overall, I wouldn’t return here again, but if someone else wanted to eat at the establishment I wouldn’t object.

Had a lovely evening at Mughi with some freinds. The menu has alot of options for starters from the steet food and tandoori section. I asked for the Bombay Sandwhich which unfortunately they dis have. We got a mixture of 3 startera and all of them where great.Induldeing the lepaord roll which was lovely and alos a nit spicy. You could just got tapas style if you fancy, but we they all got main course with rice and roti. The meal was great. The service was good as well, although the ladies covering our area did lack any personality.

Me and my boyfriend came here last night and won’t be coming again. The food was very good but the customer service was just so bad to the point where the food just wasn’t worth it. There was a man running round for social media with a camera throughout our whole meal flashing lights and i had to move seats because it was making me feel genuinely nauseous. the man that served us was rude and made us both uncomfortable and when we were ordering he shouted at us when repeating our order back as he wasn’t speaking clearly and i couldn’t understand him so i asked him to repeat what he said. it’s very fast pace and feels like everything is just rushed. the other wait staff just walked round like hawks and came up to the table, wouldn’t say anything and look for something to clear off it and when they couldn’t, without saying anything would just leave. it was really awkward. when paying for the meal my boyfriend asked for the service charge to be taken off as there is a 10% charge added to the bill, the waitress looked at him with a terrible attitude and said “why?” he just repeated what he said and she took it off after giving him a dirty look. over all terrible experience and won’t be returning. would not recommmend

Delicious food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Would highly recommend!

Although the food was good the service wasn’t. Once seated it took arround 45 minutes to get our main dishes. The servers seemed distracted but very polite. You can smell the greed miles away for they will have you buy everything separately to the chutneys. The atmosphere is alright. Delicious food really bad service. It is really unfortunate. Wouldn’t recommend.

We came as a family to have a meal. Lovely atmosphere, lots of options on the menu, staff are lovely. The food was very aesthetically appealing, but my god I have felt sick with D&V since having a meal here. Other family members we have dined with have also said they’ve had an upset stomach. It can’t just be a coincidence… I’m unsure what went wrong where with the food, but I’m still trying to recover. Perhaps, please take better care with food preparation.

Absolutely loved our visit to Mughli! We had the Scorpion Prawns, Tikka Masala Loaded Fries, and the Butter Chicken — every dish was bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection. The prawns had a beautiful char and the fries were next level! Can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend!

Terrible service, average food. Really disappointed with our visit. 20 min wait for the drinks to arrive, long wait for the food and when it did arrive it was missing my daughters main meal, which we had to chase up twice and arrived 15 mins after the other main meals. Mixed grill sizzling plate is expensive for the food you get, which is padded with cheaper items. The bill was incorrect and we had to challenge it.

My husband and I visited Mughli on Friday evening, and we were truly impressed. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our visit. The food was absolutely first-class — I was initially a little worried, as my husband isn’t too fond of spicy food, but we were both blown away. The dishes were full of flavour, yet perfectly suited to his taste. We just wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff at Mughli for making us feel so welcome. As an older couple, we sometimes feel out of place in new environments, but your warmth and hospitality made all the difference. Thank you for a lovely evening!

We didn't even get to the food, they take 10£ deposit.. because it's impossible to pakr no parking the streets are rammed nowhere at all to park we drove all the way from Sheffield for Nothing! Absolutley diabolical situation on that street never seen anything liek it in my life honestly. Such a shame.

Thoroughly recommend the mixed grill with the scorpion king prawns, we had it between 2 and it could quite easily have fed 3! Garlic nanny was to die for.

Disappointed with the delivery. The chutney had spilled all over the bag, leaving everything covered and messy. The food wasn’t hot when it arrived—especially the rice, which was barely warm. For £15, I expected more from the curry portion compared to other local takeaways. If food can’t be delivered hot and properly packaged, I don’t think delivery should be offered.

I should've walked out as soon as I saw that they had a service charge and proudly displayed they don't serve poppadoms for free. We were severed supposedly what was chicken tikka masala although it was basically butter chicken with a few extra spices and they had the audacity to give what was a single serving size. Never is my life I have been to a restaurant and ordered a curry which in a regular size isnt reasonable enough to serve 2 people. Wouldn't bother recommending this place to anyone and quite baffled why they have glowing reviews on Google.

A nice, cozy atmosphere. The service was good and the food was delicious. The only downside was the cleanliness: the cups and cutlery (already in a container on the table) were visibly dirty.

Came here for Eid and thankfully there was no wait. I had been craving butter chicken and this hit the stop. Really cosy atmosphere and tasty authentic food. Have been here a few times and always good.

Dont know why this restaurant is rated so highly. Not authentic. The biryani was one of the worst I had. For being expensive i thought i would get quality but it tasted dry and wasnt a real biryani. The raita tastes like dessert. Leopard roll was another thing rated highly in reviews but was so disappointing and sweet. The price doesn't justify the the food. Cant comment on the ambience since i got it delivered thru deliveroo. Packaging wasn't great either it was like one of those frozen meal containers with the plastic wrap. 1/5 from me.

Shambles. Website says opens at 2pm, get there for 2pm and says only half menu available, but not for another hour. Reduced service claimed to be due to a power supply problem 🤔. Ordered ‘limited choice’ and waited 45-mins. Left without eating. Don’t bother.

Levels above any Asian restaurant I've ever dined at ! What an experience the flavours are outstanding the staff attentive the atmosphere and the aroma are very special. Treat yourself you won't regret it.

Food was amazing. Mixed grill which we shared, there was plenty of it. The lamb was coated in something which was gorgeous. The tandoori chicken was succulent and tasty . Everything was beautiful. The mango lassi was gorgeous. Definitely go back

My first stop on Curry Mile, and before I even stepped inside, I was hit with the intoxicating aroma of curry, sizzling spices, and smoky grilled meats wafting through the air. The scent alone had my mouth watering—I knew I was in for something special. I went all in and ordered the Scorpion Prawns, Charred Lamb Chops, Butter Chicken, Naan, and Basmati Rice—and every dish delivered a bold, spice-packed punch. The Scorpion Prawns were a fiery revelation. Bathed in a smoky, curry-infused marinade, they had an addictive, slow-building heat that lingered just long enough before giving way to the spices and char undertones beneath. Each bite was both intense and balanced, making them impossible to stop eating. Then came the Charred Lamb Chops—and wow, these were next-level. Perfectly grilled with a beautifully seared crust, the lamb was infused with a deep, aromatic spice blend of cumin, cinnamon, and cardamom, giving it a rich, almost smoky warmth. Every bite was juicy, tender, and packed with complex layers of flavor. The Butter Chicken was creamy, velvety, and undeniably well-made—but just a touch sweeter than I’m used to. The tomato-based sauce had a rich, buttery smoothness, infused with smoky paprika, garam masala, and just a hint of fenugreek. While I tend to prefer a bit more of a savory kick, I could still appreciate the way the flavors melded together into something comforting and indulgent. Incredible food, served in very attractive surroundings. The menu is really interesting and varied and there's something for everyone. The curries were served in attractive, authentic heavy bowls which added to the experience. The desserts were divine! Highly recommended

I remember going to Mughli a few years ago when it first opened...and I wasn't impressed. Never went back until this week. Met a few friends there for dinner on a Tues night...and it was a lot better than I remembered! The grills are the obvious standout in terms of food. We ordered the king prawns, lamb chops, seekh kebabs (chicken and lamb) and tandoori chicken. All were really tasty...perhaps the seekh kebabs were not quite to the same standard as the others. There was nothing wrong with them...but you can get better in a lot of places in MCR. The issue I did have with the grilled starters was the price. I know it's tough for restaurants these days so I don't like to complain too much about prices...but these were a little toppy. For eg; £8.50 for 2 seekh kebabs £10 for 2 tandoori chicken thighs £4.30 for 1 lamb chop...we ordered 6 which came to nearly £26! The only starter I didn't have an issue with on price were the prawns...even though they were £5 a piece (!) they were much bigger than an average king prawn and they were fresh. For mains we ordered a few main dishes - butter chicken, the staff lamb and potato curry, tarka dal along with 4 tandoori rotis and 2 portions of rice. The curries were ok...not bad but not great by any means. And while the prices were only a little higher than expected at £14 the portion sizes were quite disappointing. On top of that the prices for the sides was silly...£4 for rotis that were regular sized. Btw...we also ordered soft drinks as we were all driving...and again the prices were ridiculous. £4.30 for a 250ml can of soda is not justifiable in my opinion. We didn't have any deserts...and our bill came to £186. Overall I didn't mind Mughli...it's a good looking and modern place that is fully licensed (which is a rarity in Rusholme)...but the owners have designed the menu to squeeze the absolute maximum out of diners. If the food and service was great all round I would not mind...but apart from the prawns....there wasn't anything I ate that I couldn't get somewhere else for less cost or better quality. And charging 10% service on top of the bill automatically annoyed me again! 😆

Got a delivery so can’t comment on atmosphere and service however when the food showed up it was seemingly in a microwave meal package. i wish it was because that would have probably tasted nicer. In truth the korma was watered down to the point it was almost inedible and got completely left, the tikka was less than average and extremely salty, Wouldn't recommend to my dog (who actually eats his own shit). Made both of us ill.

Mughli has always been our favourite and only restaurant that we visited regularly on the curry mile. However, having not been for a couple of years we went tonight and felt so disappointed. The quality has been replaced with an ethos of extracting as much money as possible from the customer without worrying much about service and effort. My curry and naan bread was excellent but my wife's korma was very poor. Asked if we could have paneer in it and told no. It was a korma sauce with an onion bhaji in it. Side dishes of sag aloo, rice and Bombay potatoes were not good at all. Finally at tip of £27 already added to the bill is very poor etiquette especially when we cleared and rounded up the plates ourselves. Even charged 10% 'tip' on 2 drinks that I bought and paid for at the bar on arrival. This was our last ever visit.

We had an amazing Valentine's Day meal here. It was our first time at Mughli and we will definitely be back. The food was amazing, Peter's Naan is incredible 😍 staff are lovely too.

Visited Mughli restaurant last night after watching a review video on tik tok, this place did not disappoint! The atmosphere was great, and the restaurant felt authentic with the little touches like insense sticks burning. The food was absolutely gorgeous, the charcoal pit section was definitely a hit! If you haven’t been here I’d highly recommend it. We will definitely be back.

Service was excellent, bounced in after watching insta post. Was not disappointed. The food tastes amazing, really fresh and hot hot hot.

Came for dinner with the family after some promising reviews — what we experienced today did not meet expectations. Staff members were nice overall but service was slow and very unorganised despite it not being very busy. Items as simple as drinks would be missing for ages. Mind you, the only thing that arrived on time without fault was the card reader and the bill (including of course the mandatory 10% service charge). The food tasted good but portions were microscopic and grossly overpriced. We (5 people) ended up spending over £100 yet still left hungry. Absolute robbery! There are so many fantastic South Asian spots in the area that sell large portions of great-tasting food at a fraction of the price. If you want local takeaway level food at a San Carlo level price, by all means pay Mughli a visit. If, however, you want food that’ll fill you up, avoid this place.

Our first visit to this restaurant. Wow, what a brilliant experience. The restaurant was beautiful looking with little candles and lamps on the table. The staff were so polite and friendly. The food was out of this world. It tasted amazing. We visited for a birthday meal and we were definitely not disappointed.

Been eating at Mughli for years, just never left a review! Never had a bad meal or experience! My Mum and I visited the other week while they had 50% off curry’s, we didn’t book ahead, as it was a last minute decision, but we did call up and were advised we would be seated relatively quickly - which we were! Arguably the best restaurant on ‘curry mile’ .. Which seemingly doesn’t have that many actual traditional curry restaurants anymore, the great thing about Mughli is, while they offer a new take on ‘Indian cuisine’ they are also do delicious charcoal meat! If you’re thinking about going for food, do it!

We had a spectacular evening! The food was great, service very polite and nice, we ordered 2 curries, mix grill, babba ganush, pappadums and sauces, every single thing was amazing! Full of flavour, everything was just really well balanced! 100% recommended+ will be coming back!!

Recientemente cenamos en Mughli Charcoal Pit, y tengo que decir que es un corte por encima del resto cuando se trata de auténtica comida india. Como alguien que tiene 52 años y es un fan de toda la vida de la cocina india, he probado todos los grandes nombres en Manchester y sus alrededores y la famosa Wilmslow Road. Sin duda, esta es la mejor comida que he probado. El cordero y la carne de pollo fueron nada menos que perfectos – cocinados con absoluta precisión, tiernos y llenos de sabor. El ambiente era cálido y acogedor, haciendo la experiencia aún más agradable. El personal era atento, amable y realmente mejoró la noche. Si estás buscando una excelente comida india que realmente establezca el estándar, Mughli Charcoal Pit es el lugar para ir. No puedo recomendarlo lo suficiente!

Been here many times before and loved it but was massively disappointed tonight. We were served our drinks and had our food order taken and one dish was brought out but after that we waited an hour for the rest of our food after having to ask how much longer it would be. No one came over to us at all and couldn’t get any of the servers’ attention. We watched people come in after us and get their food before us and had to ask for some water 3 times before getting any. I cannot fault the food as it was delicious but the service was appalling.

Service was great, curries were on the bland side. Garlic naan was fantastic! If I were to return, it would be for charcoal meats only.

Oh my word. You have to try this place. Amazing! Fabulous staff. Bringing the whole family back. Have the huge bbq platter. You won’t regret it. Wear those elasticated pants. 😂 the mocktails are delicious too. We will be coming back soon

Probably one of the best curry gafs in Manchester. Food was incredible. Highly recommend the mixed grill & leopard roll. We got Tuk Tuk Karai, Chicken Chilli Mirch & Lamb Saag and all were 10/10. Staff were really nice too.

Mugli where should I begin? The atmosphere was decent seating was okay to make you feel cozy they light up a little candle on the table which is practically running by a miracle as the candle is all burnt out and fighting for life at the bottom of the candle holder. The whole dining area is freezing they have one electric heater on that’s supposed to supply heat to everyone hilarious. Service was standard as a take away shop they got our order wrong twice and the worst part of everything is the service charge bill they add on which is £10 on top of the food for basically the staff bringing food to our table when they’re not huddled in a corner chit chatting ignoring everyone. Let’s get to the main part the food was absolutely horrible. The starters were an abomination the lamb chops were tasteless and chewy. The scorpion prawns felt like I was dying in the water with them one bite in to them and you could taste a full table spoon of salt no flavour and no spice. The seekhkebab roll was okay I guess it’s not hard to wrap it in a light chappati with cheese and store bought sweet chilli sauce so paying a tenner for just the roll made me want to wrap my self in the chappati as it’s an insult to everyone. The Malai broccoli was a joke they smacked it on to the grill charcoaled it threw salt and pepper on it and whacked the whole thing including the head on to a plate with an unknown orange sauce that looked and tasted like back up vomit oh but for the aestheticness they threw On a couple of pomegranates to justify the price for the 50p broccoli head you get at Aldi. I still didn’t learn my lesson and leave after all that decided to play with my stomach and intestines by waiting for the main courses. Ordered the butter chicken and it was the biggest mistake of the night and the trip to Manchester. The sweetness and coconut milk mixed together made me want to puke back in to the fancy little pot as there was enough room to accommodate for it considering they charge extortionate prices and throw in 4 chicken pieces. How does a curry restaurant get a butter chicken wrong it’s the most easiest dish to make my 10 year old child could make better chicken in gravy with 5 tablespoons of sugar and tomato purée because that is basically what it was with orange food colouring thrown in to disguise the nasty mess they served. The second main ordered was the naga chilli chicken dish an absolute joke. How do you manage to mess up a naga dish. Naga supposed to be spicy was fished out from mugli being sweet was an absolute joke . Tasted exactly like the butter chicken but with a table spoon of naga in there so I’ll leave that right there so you guys can fill in the blanks. The best thing of the night was the coco cola and the mango lassi so basically I wasted 150 quid on a nice glass of drinks with a quarter lime and a glass cup . Such a let down and now I have the aftermath to look forward to as my stomach is bubbling and gurgling from it. Worst place to exist out there and what a waste of a spot on Winslow road!! Would not recommend to any people or animals out there !

From the moment we sat down to our table there was a rush for us to choose our food. We was told by the waitress we needed to be really quick with deciding on our food options, she came several times in the space of 5 minutes. After I had said please can we had 2 minutes, she never came back to the table. I was ready to walk out by this point as we had only ordered drinks and popadoms by this point. We ended up staying, the food was really good but the customer service was very poor! I won’t be retuning again.

Walked out after waiting for 15 minutes. The place was cold in this weather there was minimal heating on and had a oil filled heater placed next to us which was falling apart health n safety wasn't taken into account as wire were hanging out of the side. We asked to be moved but they said seating was reserved for a party. Wanting to order we waited 10 minutes no one turned up to take the order after seeing 4 people maul the food with their hands in the kitchen my Mrs couldn't bare to order or eat there so we walked out

Very disappointed, with the food and the service our food was completely cold and they gave us a wrong food. Surely we can’t be served cold chicken and rice it’s completely against the EHCO rules and regulations. Even the gentleman did not want to help us.

Lovely place and decor. However, the food was so ridiculously spicy (and we all love spicy food) that it was inedible and most of it was left. The service was also incredibly hit and miss. Considering it has been lauded as one of the best Indian restaurants in this locality, this was very disappointing. We would not return.

Best Indian in Manchester so far. Came here yesterday with a couple friends. Food was OUTSTANDING. I loved all the little touches and quality of the dishes. I’ve been looking for a good Indian food spot and this was bang on. The food is halal here. We got the butter chicken curry, the chicken is charcoal cooked first before it’s made with the curry. The chicken was super soft and succulent, I have not had a butter chicken like this before, the sweetness and flavour balance was just right. We also got the lamb chops, thick soft pieces of lamb, I don’t think I’ve had better at an Indian restaurant in Manchester yet, it’s spicy and smokey as well, but just the right amount for south Asian cuisine. Scorpion prawns were amazing, smoky tandoori taste. I love that you can actually choose how many you want after getting the minimum amount. Tuk Tuk lamb karahi, to me this was very authentic and tasted like the lamb curry you get at Pakistani/benfali weddings, but a better quality version of that. We also got a lamb biryani, this was also bang on, I really enjoyed everything here. The nans were good quality, soft and flavourful. The only positive criticism I’d give is, they sell alcohol here and for a lot of Muslims it makes us feel uncomfortable being in such environments. I would advise the owners to rethink this, you’re on curry mile, you’ve got a big potential for Muslim customers, but sadly the alcohol serving will put many off from going like my own parents for example. Also you will lose barakah in your income. Other than that the food was banging here i’d defo return, the owner is a very nice friendly guy and foodie at heart, this can be seen from all the extra touches he’s considered in his dishes.

Outstanding food, the scorpion prawns and the the tandoori lamb chops are sensational.

The service lets this restaurant down. We waited 40 mins to order and this was after stopping a waitress to ask if we could order. We then had to shout over again when we wanted a drink. When the main meals came out we were never asked if the food was ok or whether we needed anything they literally throw the food down on the table. When you are charged a 10% service charge you shouldn't have to be chasing the waiters round. The food was really nice and overall we enjoyed the food however we won't be returning to this restaurant.

To be honest, the service is bad and the food is very bad. I would not recommend it if I gave it less than a star..

Just had delivery from here and I have to say it is the best I have ever had, there is only 1 word I can use for the food, and that is STUNNING! Thank you ❤️ I can not recommend any higher, you deserve 20 stars 🌟

Fantastic currys i got the apna chicken main authentic taste like back home. Punjabi poutine starter and popadoms and chutney and sauces all great service thanks for a enjoyable evening

Ordered butter chicken and garlic naan and steamed rice. The butter chicken was a HUGE disappointment. It was so sweet and had a disgusting ghee taste as well. Not creamy either. The garlic naan didn’t taste of garlic. Steamed rice was fine. Not nice for the expensive price we paid

Ordered through Deliveroo and food turned up cold and late. When I've tried to eat the food the chicken was undercooked. Highly disappointed. 3 stars on atmosphere and service because I'm sure it's better if you actually go there but won't ever order delivery from here again.

Took ages to be seated even though there was loads of available seats . Bits of food on the table when we were seated . Daughter’s butter chicken was lukewarm , returned it and it was still the same temperature when brought back . Asked for serviettes 3 separate times , never came . Server seemed short tempered with our table for some reason . Our food , twice, was sent to a nearby table , sat there for a couple of minutes and then redirected to our table . Charged us for and extra drink and rice we never had . Really wanted to love this place as the reviews seemed decent. Nothing to get excited about TBH and expensive for what we for

Ordered poppadoms, mango chutney, bang bang chicken and chicken tikka masala via Deliveroo. Worst curry I've had, the poppadoms were stale and chewy, the curry just tasted like spicy cream, no flavour. Only good thing was the mango chutney. £60 for a meal we couldn't finish due to the poor quality, will never order from here again.

The food is good but too costly and the quantity is too less. Not worth the money they are taking. If you don't mind spending a bit high on food, this might be a place. The taste of the food was good.
