Mughli Restaurant+Charcoal Pit in Manchester

It was my first time trying Mugli and I enjoyed to the fullest. Food was lovely and service by Aman was great. She was nice with understanding what I like. I highly recommend butter chicken and chicken tandoori. Next time I will try the chicken buryani for sure.

Driving 45 minutes and paying £60 for just average food is disappointing, I can't justify more than 2 stars for the food. The chutney selection in the chutney tray starter was nice but the thin crumbly popodams were irritating. We had a staff lamb dish and a lamb byriani. The staff dish was flavourless even though the lamb was very tender. The byriani was ok. Just ok, extra hot but no flavour, nothing to rave about. The service was prompt even though the place was busy with clients and take away orders. When i spilled a glass of lassi our server were so helpful, thank you so much for your kindness! Initially we wanted to order some grill choices that had individual price per piece, but we were conditioned to choose 2 of each or 3 pieces minimum for the lamb chops so we ended up going for different mains. I can't remember the last time if ever I haven't finished a garlic naan! Can you imagine, leaving half a naan in the basket because there wasn't anything worth eating it with and not that good to have on its own!! *Sad face! I really wanted to like this place, their Instagram ads looked great, but in this instance, I regret not staying home! Advice for keen souls duped by the Insta reels - have local takeaway and save your money!

It's average. We were expecting more after seeing the great reviews but we were left disappointed. The service was good and the atmosphere was bustling. Upon leaving there was a stack of deliveroo / delivery drivers blocking the front door We were trying to order a selection of items but were told we needed a minimum amount of each of the dishes I couldn't order 1 slider for example I needed to order 2 so I don't know why these items are priced individually on the menu it should say 2 sliders £8 no 1 slider £4 for example.

First of all I really don’t know what the fuss was about food was below average in terms of flavour and presentation! I’ve had better Indian takeaways from my local was absolutely rubbish flavourless and bland!! 👎🏽 Also a 10% service charge was added to our bill which we was not aware of! Which was £10.08! I wouldn’t even mind but the waitors and waitresses were rude and not welcoming atall! Even argued with my friend when they gave her the wrong drink demanding it was something else disgusting behaviour!! I wouldn’t reccomend this place to anyone atall if your wanting a nice meal or atmosphere!

Its that moment when you actually taste what a real curry is about my friend ordered for me a couple of days go to be delivered to Northern moor..presentation was amazing,,all my food was in sealed containers!! Actually sealed ,, let me tell you now I only ordered 2 days ago and I'm ordered again tonight..samosas and the red chilli dip is next level ..I really won't go anywhere else I. Future..trust me ..nom nom

Amazing food delivered right to my door!! Ordered the Butter chicken and brown rice exclusive deliveroo box! So yummy but did have to reheat it maybe because I don’t live too close but still tasted great!

rly gone downhill tbh, idk if a change of management or something? used to be delicious + great value on deliveroo - especially the vegan box !! now it's so expensive and less vegetarian options. but i gave it another go.. what a waste of my money 🙂first of all WAY smaller portions than before. daal was so bad. like it just tasted BAD😭 and the rice was lukewarm, seemed reheated. rice was tasteless. in total daal, rice and onion bhajis cost £25 😵‍💫 wouldn't order again

Probably my favourite Indian place. I usually prefer starters and dont eat many curries out, but the butter chicken from here is so good. It is creamy but still has a kick, and the chicken pieces are so beautifully marinated and cooked. I have been here a few times and enjoy it every time!

Look at the £20 briyani.( was supposed to chicken briyani) looks like one of them packed from asda. The sweat is literally more than the sauce in the sealed package It is a food poison This doesn't justify £20. This place needs locking off

Took an hour and a half to arrive and food was cold and soggy. The food is poor quality and probably the worst curry I’ve ever tasted . Embarrassing to have to microwave food that you’ve ordered.

Chefs shouting and fighting in front of customers is expected. Even the manager got a bad reputation with waitresses. Shame a few dishes are actually nice.

Service is horrible its non existent they are just running around like headless chickens. After my order was taken they lost it so only got thr drinks and mains. Had to ask for the table to be cleared after starters sat around for 10 mins thinking they might do thier job. 25 mins after the table was cleared I asked where are my mains got told 2 mins ill let you know watched the take an order and do other things and then tell me 2 mins. 10 later I asked again overheard that the ticket was lost so they haven't even started told the manager forget it bill me I'm going. He did ask to bare with him but the food so far was medicare so wasn't going to wait for potentially more mediocre food. Didn't charge the service charge as he said there was no service provided. Yeah I know I was the customer. As for the atmosphere the pace is very dark which isn't bad its the flicker candle on your table, the overpowering smell of incense which is being burnt near the bar so it reals throughout. Its not the nice incense this stuff makes your head hurt. Top it off some of the tables are oddly placed so people are just constantly going over you and the music my days loud and drummy felt like I was in jumanji. Literally the most headache enduring environment I've ever been too. The food well let's start with the good the chutney is nice and the chicken and lamb shell were a 7 lamb chops and solid 8. The rest of sizzler was weak chicken tandoori and the yellow one were bland 1 dimensional tatse, the mains I never got, the menu needs sorting soda and jucies are under 1 section the only clue Limca is a canned drink is imported from India makes you think it could be a lime lemon juice. By the way don't try it it tastes vile the after tatse is pure chemical. As for the lemonade soda its pretty awful aswell I mean like Schweppes has a clean tatse what are these guys buying Barr lemonades unwanted cousin. Overall the food is geared to non Asian palate, no depth of flavour, no kick at all, just colour. If this is desi food I'm sorry you have lost your minds. 33 years and you haven't even come close to slap up meal pet alone authentic design food. Service dead Food bland Atmosphere overpowering Will never recommend to anyone or every go again.

Enjoyed my experience in mughli. It was very nice. The Peters naan and one of the lamb curries was my favourite. The only downside was one of the waitresses seemed a bit abrupt throughout our time there. Also when it came to pay I felt as thought she shoved the card machine in my face, not even having a chance to look at my bill. Other than that mughli was a decent experience.

Ordered takeout, usually absolutely love it here. A bit pricey but definitely worth it usually, however tonight, my chicken tikka was undercooked and almost raw in my opinion which was really concerning. I’ve raised this with deliveroo for a partial refund but I’m really disappointed overall. In fairness, everything else was delicious, the broccoli & the tandoori chicken was amazing.

Moughli really has great food. Have always loved the biryani and butter chicken . Poor staff service though, we were served by a guy who wears glasses and has beard, he was very rude in gaming order and while serving. He kept hoovering around while eating food which made it kinda awkward to eat. Was Rudy whenever we asked for anything. It's really a great place to visit but poor staff quality .

Turned up last night without a booking for 6 of us. They managed to seat us within no time at all. The food was excellent. Atmosphere great. Service was fantastic too. Will be back

Tandoori chicken portion ridiculously small, comes with pickled red cabbage which wasn't mentioned, pity I absolutely detest vinegar. Burnt on the outside, cold and half raw in the middle.

Very nice place for both families, couples and parties. Toilet upstairs, so not ideal for wheelchair or so. Food was really good. The Resturant smells of charcoal, cus it is, so just for information! The music that they are playing is nice, but it would have been perfect if the loudspeakers was in a little better quality, so people can focus on the food instead of bad music equipment. Nice experience!

I've been coming here for nearly 18 years plus from what I remember. I've always enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. We arrived when it opened at 5pm. We ordered beers, starters and two curries between us. Maybe a little expensive but the beers add up if you drink alcohol. You can see the cost and pictures for yourself. We had a great time with excellent service from the lovely lady. I would definitely recommend going. I can't fault the restaurant.

The food was absolutely amazing the waiter was lovely, probably the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to by some distance.

Butter paneer (marked vegetarian) came with chicken in it. They must cook their vegetarian and meat dishes together. Vegetarians should absolutely avoid.

Food was great, customer service was quick and polite on a relatively busy Friday night. Brilliant overall atmosphere and if you haven't, definitely try the lamb chops!

Although the food was good I felt, overall, that it was overpriced compared to similar restaurants. The Bombay Potato was…..‘different’ and not to my liking - made worse by the exorbitant price for such a small portion. First and last visit I’m afraid.

Fantastic meal, such great depth of flavours across lots of different meals. There were 8 of us, and we enjoyed trying lots of different curries and starters. The charcoal broccoli was one of my favourites, and it was such a surprise to be blown away by a side dish. Reasonable prices and good and friendly service. Above all, exceptional food.

Went there to celebrate my partner's birthday by having dinner with friends, on 8th October, 2023. Point one the food was great, so no problem with that part, we had a last minute booking we were in by 9:40 pm, they close at 10:30 pm when we were placing our last orders the waiters(especially the girls) were very rude. To the extent we had to say one of them how rude they were. Then one of them said, whatever they said was not their words rather their managers', even if I sympathize with them, I am really annoyed for them being so rude on a special day. Also, even when I went up to the till to pay the bill the person who was taking my bill was full of unnecessary attitude, I would have still tipped them, as the day was very important to me but the behavior even at the checkout put me off so much, that I simply paid my bill and walked away. The only good thing being the food, mocktails and some selected cocktails, that's it. The point is if you are unable to give service then you shouldn't have taken last minute booking, that's irresponsibility on your part. Thank you for ruining the experience.

Really incredible grilled broccoli dish, I couldn’t recommend enough! However, the chicken in the curry was a bit dry and the curry itself underwhelming. A really lovely atmosphere and great for charcoal dishes.

Wow what an experience. I came by myself as a tourist and was connected to a brilliant waitress Kelsey. She/They looked after me without prejudice to my allergies. The theatre of the restaurant is extremely vibrant. The lamb chops are something else. Great value food, my bill was higher due to hanging out and drinking Gin! Restaurant is Disabled friendly. Thank you, thank you, thank you . A fantastic way to end a weekend in Manchester xxx

- if you BYOB you get no student discount (nice lady on the table opposite defended me despite me showing my ID). Staff apparently told me at the front of house when I did BYOB that this was the case according to the lady - this didn't happen and was a lie. - barmaid on the front of house very abrasive and poor customer service skills, other staff also felt very unwelcoming - my food came out before my partner's, when he couldn't manage his portion, the waiter taking it away tutted at him. All in all an unpleasant experience. As a student in Manchester a decade ago previously I frequented the Curry Mile a fair few times and brought my partner here to show him what was on offer. We won't be coming here again.

Do not place an order via Deliveroo or Ubereats because it won’t arrive. Just waited over an hour for the order to be delivered but it’s just been cancelled. Restaurant is completely unresponsive. Waste of time.

They eat from customers plates before serving them and when caught red handed display a shameless attitude & despite admitting it try to cover up with stories. No remorse, no shame and attitude is same from manager to waiters.

Impressive if anglicised food choices, good atmosphere - Poor service. There are probably more authentic places to eat on the curry mile, but the charcoal grilled options here are pretty good, and the design and décor are engaging. However adding an automatic 10% service charge to the bill implies waiting staff that are friendly, engaging and know what they are doing, which sadly almost none of the people serving us did. Forgotten and missed items, confusion about drinks options & table readiness and so on, with staff milling about seemingly oblivious. Nothing that spoiled the evening, just a bit disappointing.

Stopped here on a work trip. Curry was superb, all the little bits too. A must visit.

We ordered takeaway - Buttered chicken was delicious. Saag Aloo not so good as it was simply a dish of minced spinach with, at most, half a chopped up small potato. Tried to call the restaurant to provide feedback, don't know why they have a phone number as there is no option to speak to anyone or leave a message. Hope someone from the restaurant reads this as we have ordered from them previously and always received tasty, satisfying meals - sincerely hope this was an oversight.

10 out of 10. Faultless, everything we ordered was perfect. Particular highlights were tandoori chicken, black dahl and biryani. Service spot on, bustling, busy and lively atmosphere. Perfect for a Saturday evening meal. Will be back, worth every penny.

Lamb chops and chicken tikka lovely. Curries contain cheaper cuts of meat not breast or lamb (mutton). Expected 11/10 from social media, its good but not enough to not make me look at another up the road. Added a 10% service fee which despite service being good, I never agree with. Tips are discretionary even in America or Manchester! House Malbec is over priced.

Visited last year when in Manchester & just had to come back! It didn't dissapoint! Friendly & attentive staff from start to finish with a chilled atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh & filling - really nice presentation too. Reasonably price & received a refund of the booking fee the next day.

The food is okay but nothing wow. Prices are quite expensive - would not recommend the mix grill starter as it was a small portion for the price. However, service & atmosphere is good!

The food is great here but it is quite expensive as well. The meat is cooked quite well and not dry.

Burnt, bland dirty, but staff were good, the Brockley dish was so hard a steak knife wouldn't cut it, the couple opposite our table asked the staff to cut there chicken as it was so tough and even they couldn't, the mixed grill was so burnt it had cancer written all over it. A 20p cheap imported watered version of coke they charged £4.00 ,but on top of everything the food was soo bland and the place dirty

Food portion sizes are abysmally small for the price you pay. The korma I ordered was bland and did not taste fresh, which you'd hope for at the price they charge for a basic curry. The manager tried to justify this by saying he can't control portion sizes, so who know what he manages, and was confrontational with no remorse. The restaurant itself is dark and dismal. Plus service charge on top of all of that. Much better places on the curry mile if you want a good curry and value for money.

Pros-Good good.Garlic naan(soft had a good buttery garlic flavour)Tandoori naan(bit tougher side).Butter paneer and briyani was tasty. Cons-coke was £3.5(which tasted totally different)CAN coke from store which is lesser price tastes 10 times much better. Rasmalai-dont recommend(was kinda off taste)and bit pricey Overall food was good but small items such as Tea,coke,dessert is not worth the price.

4 little pieces of lamb measuring 1 inch by less than half a inch ...in curry Beer 330ml 5 pounds ... Wont be going back and wont reccomend ..very poor.

If one looks for the graphical definition of foodgasm in the dictionary, a Mughli butter chicken shows up. It's that good.

Called here with the Mrs on a Saturday night as we were seeking out some top quality nose bag and had read some excellent reviews. Turns out the reviews were right - we were seated quickly, the staff were attentive and pleasant and the food was of an excellent calibre. They even threw in a couple of vimto lollipops at the end when we got our bill. It’s the little things in life that go a long way and this was one of those. Keep up the good work. I highly recommend the Tuk Tuk Karai with paneer. It hit the spot.

Very suprised by this place… Mix grill was very nice good flavour. Chicken karahi was also good. Only downside is drinks are served by glass not jug which is downside.

The food is nice, however I'd say a bit pricey for the portion size. There is also a service charge. The atmosphere Is OK, mainly English people when we went on Eid.

£80 for 4 people, order butter chicken and chicken dum biryani plus mango lussi,gulab jamun and pani puri. Service charge was high 8 pound but food was 👍

Really enjoyed our meal at Mughli! Very tasty food cooked to perfection. I just think the beer was a bit too much at £6.60 a pint. Even in Manchester I find that ridiculous, feels like they are taking advantage a bit compared to other Indian restaurants in the are, but that’s the only negative.

Been here a few times over the years but first visit in 4 years. Still the best and with a new menu and new choices. Excellent food, service and atmosphere what's not to enjoy? Already planning next visit in a few weeks time

If you’re going to add your own service charge you can’t be forgetting to deliver starters , received a very good bang bang chicken after the mains ( did need to ask for it ) Service professional if a little flat Leopard Rolls / Samosas/ lamb chops all excellent Bang Bang Chicken very good when it arrived Mains:- Biriyani good Chicken Korma good Jalfrezi dopiaza good Overall a good experience, would return

Actually quite a decent nice place. I was a bit disappointed when I asked for an item to be made spicier to be told that it isn’t possible because they essentially can’t be bothered to do that. The butter chicken was good, my friend thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken was tender and well marinated. Their chai was authentic but way too bitter with no sugar offered. The cake rusk was stale. I liked the atmosphere and the vibe. I gave this a high rating predominantly because of the lovely girls that work here that actually attended to us and made sure we were okay :)

Mughli's is truly Manchester's best curry house. Even the simple butter chicken is amazing. A perfect balance of flavours. Absolutely worth the wait and miles ahead of any curry restaurant in Manchester, even if Manchester currys are well renowned. If you go to Manchester once, you have to at least have one curry at Mughli,

Food is excellent - a lot of it cooked over charcoal - in particular, the charred lamb chops were delicious. Broccoli starter is unusual and highly recommended! The biryani is also a must-eat. Service is a little weak and the menus a bit grubby - could try harder to smarten up - otherwise an easy 4/5. I will be back for more quality comfort food!

Poor service, staff inattentive and restaurant not busy. Asked for all the food together in the end conceded they wouldn’t do this as for computer says no response multiple times. Pickle tray was poor and popadoms small and below average. Mains were ok, naan was very dry and thin. Butter chicken was mainly flavoured with chilli not spices. Far better offerings in the area. Would not return.

Brilliant service, atmosphere and food. Staff were really lovely and made us feel very welcome. The Balti dish was amazing. Will definitely visiti here again the next time I'm in Manchester.

The halcyon days of the Mughli are sadly long gone, they actually have very few choices on the menu now. As with many things, gentrification has ruined the experience. Prices similarly gone crazy.

Great service, accommodating for dietary requirements and requests. The prawns and chips were phenomenal, well seasoned and balanced and sauces not needed as a result. Lychee mocktail, with a shot of rum was refreshing and really topped the meal off well. Thank you, I will 100% be back again when I’m next in Manchester 🫶🏼

Basic curries nothing exciting to go back

I've had some great food from here before but their curries are MUCH too sweet.

Have been ordering takeaway from here on a regular basis for the last year or so, and never been disappointed. Every dish tried has been delicious, every time, and without the restaurant ever making a mistake on the order - only time something did go wrong it was an Uber Eats mistake that the restaurant rectified extremely quickly once we rang them. That kind of consistent quality is hard to find, so hats off to them. Ambience is good inside, and the prices are higher than a typical neighbourhood Indian but comparable to the other options on Curry Mile. Absolutely recommend for dine in or takeaway.

good attentive service and the food was perfect!

We visited this restaurant having been given a voucher as we enjoy Indian food and wanted to try an original meal. We were not disappointed, the food was excellent and the service very good, attentive but not overbearing. We started with scorpion tandoori prawns which were perfectly prepared and cooked along with tandoori chicken thighs. Both were flavoursome and succulent. Our mains were butter chicken, chicken jalfrezi and lamb kari with a garlic nan. Again all excellent with large pieces of tender meat in beautifully balanced spiced sauces. Overall superb.

-Food was delightful -Staff on the whole trying their best - did not deal well with errors - watch out for then slightly stringent serving process if it is not explained to you; as happened with us. We were a large table and we were late for our booking owing to our taxis not turning up. We phoned to advise the restaurant who very kindly accommodated us. It was rammed and staff managed to be friendly and efficient. So far so good. Issues arose when food came out.. or didn’t. Many people on the table had ordered a selection of things to enjoy. For example - prawns with rice, Bombay potatoes and a naan. In this case the prawns arrived .. and after 30-40mins the Bombay potatoes, rice and naan had not (one of many such orders on the table). Mistakes happen, we tell one staff member who hurriedly states something about starters and goes to the next table, when we finally catch another member he states all the starters come out then the mains. We explain we were not informed of this and it’s not at all clear on the menu in-house which are and aren’t starters. He leaves appearing to feel it is our mistake. We sit and reflect with our prawns etc and then think why would rice and naan be a main? All very strange. We catch a third member of staff who is absolutely doing their best to listen unlike the previous two, she checks on order and comes back to update, we ask if it was forgotten she explains they are going through their checks. So after all this other dishes arrive and my friend receives her now combo of rice, potato and naan. As she is not carb loading at this time she’s kinda over it. My other friend who has had nothing to eat whilst some others of us eating receives her butter chicken with rice. She wolfs half of it down but is also a little hangry. All of the food was delicious but in such a random order which wasn’t explained and then somehow appeared to be our problem it ruined things a little. We were offered no discount, or removal of one naan which never showed up and no explanation. The average score reflects great food, some staff trying on a very busy night. Just be sure to have them explain which they consider to be starters

Terrible service, we were fasting and they lost our order! Waited an hour before I spoke to manager to check and he then confirmed our order had been misplaced!!

I didn’t get a chance to visit whilst I was in Manchester but I got a Deliveroo to my hotel on Sunday night. Not cheap but very delicious and generous portions. Chicken Chilli Mirch was spicy and delicious. Okra fries, onion bhaji, popadoms, pilau rice all fantastic

Wir hatten aber den Eindruck dass alles sehr schnell gehen muss, kaum Platz genommen sollten wir schon sagen was wir essen wollen. Sind uns vorgekommen wie bei der Abfertigung 🤔. Das Essen ansonsten 👍 für meine Verhältnisse aber etwas zu teuer. Trotzdem kann ich dieses Lokal weiterempfehlen
