This listing needs to be changed to reflect that this restaurant is not Mrs Wong's. It went under new ownership and changed its name to 'Cozy Woods' many years ago. All the more recent and largely negative reviews reflect this new restaurant, not the Streatham institution that was Mrs Wong's, and frankly they are a stain on the good name of what was once an incredibly beloved community favourite. Cozy Woods, stop trying to capitalise on the reputation and goodwill built up by the real Mrs Wong's over many decades. Much love to the original owners and staff.

Probably one of the worst restaurants I've eaten at in a very long time! Food was disgusting, didn't feel fresh and tasted bland. Only one person was working there, who we had to shout for many times as he would go in the back and eat his own food. It is now the next day and I have very bad food poisoning hence why the food definitely was not fresh. Please stay away from this horrible place they don't care!

I order food last Saturday evening. The food never arrived, they didn't answer my calls at that time. Another day I called again and they were extremely rude and hanged up on me. They said the rider had a photo with my receipt in my address but refused to send me that photo or tell at what time that order was delivered. Please be aware that they use the name LEE WONG oil Deliver, probably to hide the bad reviews in here... Avoid at any cost, dishonest business.

Unfortunately the review I wrote five years ago below is for the previous owners and is in no way a reflection of the downfall of what WAS the best Chinese I had ever been to. It has dropped horrifically in standard of food and staff, such a shame. Amazing food from a long standing family run restaurant. I now go here weekly and I can hand on heart say I have never had such fresh, tasty food from a Chinese. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the fact that its BYOB means you cant run up a large bill! I would recommend the beef and black bean sauce and salt and chilli chicken wings. Amazing place

Good Chinese takeaway in the Streatham area. Normally order online but decided to pop in to takeaway. They only take cash but the menu selection is good and portion sizes are on the larger size. Only downside is the amount of prawns they use in king prawn dishes, 5 is a low amount considering most dishes cost a fiver plus. A pound per prawn is a bit outrageous!

Sadly Mrs Wongs, once a real Streatham pearl and one of the few byo places left, is not the place it used to be. Guy behind the counter totally ignored our arrival and continued his phone conversation then disappeared. Eventually a nice lady appeared and took the order. £3 for a small basket of prawn crackers!!! Ridiculous. The deep fried crispy prawns have been replaced by some cheap breadcrumbed abomination of butterflied prawn with tiny chilli sauce- dry and tasteless. Crispy duck and pancakes average. Vegetable rice ok and thai noodle dish ok. No thanks from waiter at end though only one other table occupied. ..must have interrupted his conversation and customers an inconvenience. Five stars because of the price. Food is reasonable (great salt and pepper ribs, hot and sour soup), but if you collect rather than have delivery, you get a massive 30% off your bill, making it the cheapest takeaway around and for that, the quality is pretty good. We went to Mrs Wongs after last having been there a few weeks ago before it shut down for a short period for "redecoration" (the only noticeable change being that you now enter through a central door (previously always shut) rather than through a side door and corridor) only to discover a new woman in charge and a very different menu. It is now a flat laminated sheet and apart from a number of starters all the items are one plate or one bowl dishes such as duck on rice or soup noodles. Good value for money, but not a Chinese restaurant as it used to be where you could choose a number of main courses and share in the traditional way. I think this change may be a result of the place struggling after the change of ownership a little while back, but I am not sure that turning it into a much more basic place is really the answer. You never went there for the fancy decor, and now that it encourages a quick in and out eating experience, the attraction for us is compromised. It is however still BYOB and as far as I can tell there was no corkage charge. Not sure if we will be rushing back, but we will keep it in mind for take always, which still seemed to be popular. Also not sure if their change to a cash only establishment will help them in the new world of contactless payments.

DO NOT ORDER VIA JUST EAT (or at all for that matter), unless you enjoy a big plate of disappointment. I ordered on Just Eat and chose to collect. I had done a long day at work and was incredibly hungry and would have eaten pretty much anything at this point. I decided to order from Mrs Wongs. I paid and got a reference number online. I went to collect for the time it said, only to find the staff looking confused and telling me no order was placed. I informed them of my reference number and told them the money was taken and their restaurant is all over google on Just Eat which are still taking orders and transactions. They informed me there was nothing they can do and it was not their fault. They said if I wanted the food I had to pay again as they cannot refund. After much debate, knowing it was late and I had walked here and the fact I was stupidly hungry, I stupidly reordered and paid AGAIN. I told them it was out of order to charge someone again, as this could be happening to many people. The food was horrible when I got home, I chucked one curry dish in the bin as it congealed and was full of lumps. This was an expensive waste of time to say the least after paying twice for such rubbish. It looked inedible. After the confusing and poor customer service that was almost funny because if you didn't laugh you'd cry, and lack of ability to resolve the issue or even attempt to, I was too put off to even eat by this point. They even put the manager on their own phone to my ear whilst he told me it wasn't his fault. He also said on the phone I can't have a refund or have the food at no further cost. This was an absolute joke, even a couple that was sat in the restaurant spoke to me when I left and said how much it had changed. The food was apparently bland and "not what it used to be". I complained on Just Eat who contacted the restaurant, and they claimed the restaurant stated nobody came to collect anything at that time which was a complete lie. They will have remembered me coming, it wasn't exactly busy and it was within the hour. If all of the staff have memory loss they shouldn't be taking orders. Maybe the order was placed and they just forgot? Or maybe they forgot they use Just Eat? They definitely forgot what customer service was and how to make good quality food. I will not be ordering from here again. Do not use just Eat to order from here. Ridiculous.

Yesterday, Sunday, we went for lunch at Mrs Wongs, 16 adults and 2 children. To help the restaurant I pre-ordered our food telling them them exactly what we wanted to eat and in what order. Everything was cooked to perfection and served piping hot. All of us had,as always, duck and pancakes to start with, followed by lots of different dishes from the menu, a whole steamed fish, sweet & sour fish, squid with spring onion and ginger, deep fried squid with chilli, sweet & sour chicken, chicken with cashew nuts & yellow Bean Sauce, Sliced Barbeque Filet Pork, Deep fried Shredded Beef with Chilli & sauce, Beef with Black Bean Sauce, Lemon Chicken a couple of other dishes, served with Malaysian Rice Stick Noodles and Special fried rice. As you can see we had a large selection from the menu, everything we had was absolutely delicious. The staff were attentive, nothing was too much trouble. I am so glad after a shakey start we decided to return, as it is now, once again, a family favourite. I would advise if you are a large party to try and help by preordering, having worked in a restaurant I know how much this helps the kitchen. Thank you Mrs Wongs for a wonderful lunch.

I too have been a customer of Mrs Wongs too for many years and, as mentioned by previous reviewers it has recently been taken over by new management. The menu is the same, pricing the same, still BYO which makes it a very affordable night out. I have been several times now since it has been taken over, there was initially a bit of a problem with one of the staff who is no longer there. The previous staff had been there for many years, they were very professional and absolutely knew all their customers, they rightfully earned their excellent reputation. The new management are more reserved and sometimes there is a lack of communication, not because of rudeness but because of language comprehension, plus they are finding their feet. The food is still great, the portions the same as previously. I got chopsticks and bowl with no problem at all. This week we had duck and pancakes, delicious. The duck crispy skin and moist, followed by Malaysian rice stick noodles, special fried rice, sweet and sour fish all were cooked to perfection. I will be returning on Sunday. This is still a local gem, the price cannot be beaten, to be able to bring your own alcoholic drinks is a real bonus. I think the new management should be given a chance, they are more reserved, but give them time to get to know you and you will find them very helpful and very obliging. We are extremely lucky to have such a good value for money restaurant. Thank you new Mrs Wongs!

My family has been going to Mrs Wong for over 20 years. It was always the best Chinese in London imo, great food, the staff used to be fantastic, friendly, the food was always delicious. Well this change of management has been for the worst and I've told my family Mrs Wong as we know it is gone. I really wouldn't recommend this new version - the food was bland and tasteless (like it hadn't been seasoned), for example, the satay chicken is completely different to what you would expect if you have ordered it there before - it used to be succulent flavourful pieces of chicken with a rich peanut sauce - now the satay chicken is a completely tasteless nugget you would expect to buy from Iceland, with what tastes like BBQ sauce with a bit of peanut flavouring - not good at all.

I haven't eaten at the restaurant and have had two take aways already. I ordered through just eat and the food was impeccable. The food arrived piping hot, and the beef hofun is the biggest winner! Their traditional stuff on the menu is authentic hk cuisine. Not sure why all the bad reviews, I've finally found a Chinese that rivals my dad's!!!! (We used to own a Chinese restaurant in Essex). All in all, the food is good, delivered promptly and I'll be going back (but will request less msg...) Yes the rice could do with a bit more meat, but Asians usually get their source of 'dishes' I.e their meat and fish from the main and the rice is just the to fill the belleh.

You always get a quality meal at Mrs Wong's, no matter what you order. The BYOB policy is great too.

Am a seasoned chinese eater, absolutely loved this restaurant it has great quality food. BYOB, 4 of us paid £7.30 each for 3x egg fried rice and 4 dishes to share between us. Very friendly staff, would recommend booking, have been twice and its always busy!

OK, Mrs Wong's has changed hands. It's certainly a shame but I think these 1-star reviews are unfair.

If you have eaten quality Chinese food DO NOT eat here! Squid was chewy and refried, wontons had no meat, hot and sour soup tastes like vinegar and the list goes on... And as we all know two Wong's don't make a right!

Food was really delicious and bill for 3 of us only £33. I have been coming here for years and am aware it is under new management. This is a no frills restaurant and whilst the waiter was obviously a novice, I found the food up to the usual excellent standard.

The quality and taste of food is no longer the same since change of hands. It feels like fast food and quick turnover place. Unfortunately I've lost a great Chinese food place which I was a regular for last 20 years.

Visited here on Friday night after it was recommended by a friend. We almost went somewhere else after reading the recent reviews on TripAdvisor, but decided to to take the risk. Our meal was lovely. Starter portions and chow meins were huge, veg spring rolls were some of the best I've had - really crispy and not at all soggy as they sometimes are, and the sweet and sour bean curd was delicious. It also came to only £12 each including a tip, which was excellent value. I read a lot of complaints about the service, but the woman who served us was absolutely lovely. I never went here before it changed management and maybe some things have changed, but it certainly wasn't terrible. We had a lovely meal and will be going back.

What a disappointment. Having frequented Mrs wongs for 18 years and highly recommended it to many friends and family, I regret to say we will not return.

I took my son there for his Birthday last night. As soon as we walked in, I knew something was different. The aroma coming from the kitchen had changed and as we sat down, we noticed the crude, hand drawn numbers stuck on the wall behind each table. The menu was the same, but the waiting just wasn't up to scratch. We had to repeat each item several times and he still got one wrong. The food was definitely not the same. My ribs were a little chewy and the prawn toast appeared to be processed. The duck was the most disappointing - brought out ready shredded and dry, with sauce that was watery. The rest of the meal was similarly disappointing and for the first time ever, we did not ask to take the leftovers home.I had been coming to Mrs Wongs for 30 years and had enjoyed many fantastic meals there, but sadly will not be returning.

I have been going to Mrs Wongs for years I went there recently but had no idea that the management had changed until reading some of the more recent reviews. I did notice that the longest standing waiter who is always there whenever I go to eat was not there, but still did not realise there was new management. The food was good I enjoyed it brought my own wine and the bill was a good amount cant complain apart from I miss the old skool waiter, he was nice friendly always had a good laugh with him.

Under new management. Mrs Wong, THE Mrs wong is dead, and the restaurant is no longer worth the reviews it had. Staff is slow and doesn't seem to know very well what they are doing, food is mediocre at best.

I'm gutted, my family have been going to Mrs Wongs for over 20 years. I felt compelled to write a review today. I ordered a takeaway last night and it was absolutely terrible. As soon as I got it home I knew it wasn't right and not the normal standard- I'd go as far as to say the food was completely different, it didn't smell fresh at all. I called them up immediately and asked if there was a new chef and they informed that the staff have all completely changed and it's under new management. I ate about 5 mouthfuls before chucking the lot in the bin,my mum however ate the ribs and as a result was sick in the middle of the night.I can safely and sadly say I will never go back there. So interesting to read the other bad reviews of this month, when I walked in there to collect my takeaway it was completely empty which is unheard of on a Friday night- now I know why. Such a shame and end of an era

I had been going to Mrs Wings for many many years. It was a gem, a real understated place of awesomeness. Unfortunately, management have meant that the service is try awful. Terrible. We sat down and waited 10 minutes before I eventually walked to the counter to get some glasses. A senior chap (owner) was busy chatting to people at a table for ages whilst others were all waiting. Waiters were slow, no customer service. When we eventually placed our order (must have been over 30 minutes) the service was poor. At a table next to ours, the waiter slouched on the table with his elbow on the table and head in his hands as he too the order. Food took forever to arrive, we had been there well over an hour. The chow me in came out then we waited perhaps another 10 minutes for the rest. What a shame, it used to be brilliant and now the service is awful. Good was OK, but totally outweighed by the bad experience. After many years of going, I shall not be returning. End of an era.

It is now ashame to say that Mrs Wongs has now been taken over and the service is now awful. As a regular customer of Mrs Wongs it sad to see that it has now been taken over by people who do not care for the customers. I can honestly say that for a restaurant that has always had the highest respect by my family and friends and also to treated with friendlness by the staff who are a family I was shocked by the treatment I received by the new owners who have employed a waitress that has no training to deal with customers and thinks it is ok to shout at a customer and have your children's drinks slammed on the table as she was not happy with me saying to her I do not respect the way I am being spoken to due to her not knowing how she should conduct herself...the food was nothing special where as before you knew that the food was always going to be on point.I do hope they at least start to match Mrs Wongs and bring back that family atmosphere and employ a new waitress, as they will loose the regular customers who have been going for years. There was few regular customers who where there and said they will not be back and a couple walked out, in all my 20 years going there I have never seen anything like it.It is a shame as this for me was the best Chinese in London with the best service and food which has now gone and with a heavy heart I say goodbye. I will no longer be recommending Mrs Wongs to anyone.

I am sad to say the Mrs Wongs has now been taken over and the service is now awful. As a regular customer of Mrs Wongs I have never been treated the way I was and a couple of other customers by the most rudest waitress I have ever meet. She was shouting at me as a customer due to me asking for a bowl to eat my food out of and then to be given a bowl no bigger than for a 3 month old and then be told bigger bowls are only for the staff, the bowl I was then given was a cereal bowl.It is such ashame as this for me was the best Chinese in London with the best service and food which has now gone and with a heavy heart I say goodbye to Mrs Wongs. I do hope the chef can soon match how the food tasted and that they focus on getting a new waitress and then I consider but I will no longer be recommending Mrs Wongs to anyone and for my children to see the treatment that was given who are also regulars they where in complete shock...that family feeling they had there has now gone.

Have been regulars at this venue every time I visit London with a friend. we always go for the unlimited Dim Sum, and it is always high quality food at an outrageously good price especially for London! Would never hesitate for a second to recommend this place for anyone into their Chinese. I keep my chopstick technique good purely for this place! Staff are wonderfully friendly and remember us every visit. Most recent visit was for my friends birthday (his 31st) and once again they went above and beyond to try and make it memorableaand and special for us. If you're going anywhere else in London for dim sum, you're doing it wrong!!

Good food However, the service was not very good. The attendant who seemed to be the owner of the restaurant was not happy when I only asked for one dish to share between two people and so he charged me the service fee which was optional.
