I'd been previously but don't recall any fond memories but the guy at the motorcycle museum recommended it to the people I was with and despite me suggesting somewhere else, they were keen to visit - probably due to the fact you could sit outside... I thought the female behind the counter was pretty grumpy. I couldn't see a price on the cake but ordered anyway. When I was told the price I must have looked visibly shocked as without being asked to, she told me the price of each item. There are little notices asking for and explaining why they prefer cash to card payments, which I was initially prepared to go along with, but due to the attitude and cost, I paid by card instead. You can't have your cake and eat it (no pun intended). The whole cake looked very much like ones sold by a large American warehouse club for just under £12 and which serves 14. So if that's the case, Mrs Wilson's are effectively charging around £70 for it. Eek. If they're making them in house, it won't even be costing them that. Ok these places need to make a profit...but. Coffee = acceptable but nothing special.

After visiting here with family a couple months back and being charged for a refillable pepsi to be told they don't do refillable drinks when I tried to refill, and having an all round bad experience, I thought I'd give them another try with friends this time. If you like to be unacknowledged, very little for your money and to order a hot drink that's actually lukewarm then visit Mrs Wilson's! The older lady at the till was full of attitude to her young staff members and couldn't seem to manage a smile nor manners towards her (over)paying customers. 2 small hot drinks and 2 small pieces of cake for £20 just seems excessive. Maybe wouldn't mind so much if you're paying for the experience of what pretends to be a vintage cafe or for beautiful presentation - however when your coffee turns up with a side plate of sugar and a dirty napkin that changes everything. Once we had been served our dishes we were not acknowledged again. I always try and give people/businesses a second chance but there will not be a third. Left once again feeling very disappointed and short changed!

Was very disappointed. Many reasons. Let's start with the food quality Vs the price, paid almost £27 for 1 piece of gluten free carrot cake, 1 piece of cheesecake, and 2 milkshakes, an Oreo one and a brownie one, (1 with extra 2 shots of coffee added). The milkshakes were advertised as a "freakshake, a mash up of milkshake and dessert", so I assumed it would be a thick style one, you know the type, blended cookies/brownies in our case, with milkshake, think frappe from a coffee shop but dessert not blended ice. What came was a sub-standard chocolate milkshake, topped with squirt cream, sauce, and a single Oreo (for my son), and for myself no trace of chocolate to the flavour, just looked like a cold coffee (which I like but that's not the point) topped with cream and 2 pieces of brownie. They provided the wide straws, further implying it should in fact be a really thick milkshake. The carrot cake was dry and stale, but the flavour was ok. I've had many gluten free things which have been lovely. I understand businesses not taking a whole cake out of the freezer at a time if they feel it won't sell, so take a few slices out at a time instead. I feel that here they have taken maybe a few slices out of the freezer, and maybe this week it hasn't sold quickly, so this piece had been out longer than it should have been and was past it's best, so I left half of it. My son said his cheesecake was nice but too rich to finish, and the piece was not even big, so good quality, but not big enough for the price tag. Next lets talk staff. We were seated by a lovely lad, quite young, good manners and polite, it's a shame this wasn't copied by the rest of the staff. He was seating people, running food and clearing tables whilst the management didn't seem to be doing much. We went to the desk to order and an older lady I can only assume to be the manager was quite abrupt but not rude to us. However after ordering our milkshakes she barked at a young lass to come and start making the shakes whilst she made our friends hot chocolates (we went up together but ordered separately) and the young lass asked if she wouldn't prefer her to finish clearing tables first, a job she'd clearly been asked to do before we entered and was in the middle of doing. The older lady snapped at her saying no, and to do the shakes, immediately followed up with "actually yea, oh do whatever you want!" Me and my friend both looked at each other and just though it was an appalling way to speak to your staff, especially youngsters (we've both worked in hospitality and food for nearly 3 decades between us, with myself racking up 17 of those years). Finally the decor of the place. I think it is supposed to look vintage and maybe rustic, like a quaint little coffee shop, but it just looks old, old and tired. The wallpaper was yellowed like aging paper. The fake flowers hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the room, around the clock and above the bar just looked a bit, old granny-ish, and cluttered. And the whole place just felt dated. Absolutely wouldn't be back, we only came in because we hadn't booked ahead to our favourite cafe in silloth and it was too full, in the end we wished we'd gone back to the arcades and killed another hour or so before going round the corner to "The Fairydust emporium" which is far far superior! For food, price and atmosphere, the staff there actually care and are pleased to see you, whereas here it was the complete opposite.

Coffee n Tuna Bagette x 2 ,£29 , nearly died , bagette accompanied by cheap potato crisps limp lettuce and coleslaw. You have to pay upfront in case you see your food being prepared and realise been ripped off. Would never go back here , cheaper and better value with 2 sit in Fish Teas from chipper or go to post office on corner along round.

Sit where you want order from the counter! I was told by a member of staff I presume that was sitting down eating . Just all round terrible service and food . I ordered the Mrs Wilson’s egg Benedict and was presented with a plate of slop. Unbelievable So sad as the place could be Amazing with the right management and a good chef. But clearly no one cares now.

I enjoyed my lunch at Mrs Wilson's. It's a very impressive room, but still feel welcoming and comfy. The manager and waitresses were all polite and friendly. I had a "half and half" of soup (tomato & basil) and toasted sandwich (mozarella & pesto), which were very nice, Then a very good decaff coffee.

We called yesterday morning before our bike ride , having just arrived in Silloth. The bacon, mushroom and egg bun I had including a tea or coffee was excellent and so was my wife's gluten free cake. The cafe is well furnished and spotless. Definitely will be returning on our next visit to Silloth.

We'd had a rather chilly walk on the beach, decided to warm up in a cafe with a hot drink. Our usual cafe the Fairydust Emporium was closed so tried Mrs Wilson's. Lady serving was plesant, ordered a latte, hot chocolate and a chocolate chip shortbread, when it was delivered she had brought a caramel shortbread instead, but couldn't be bothered to make a fuss. Coffee was ok but hubby said hot chocolate was a really good. It really was not warm inside, not great when it's cold outside. Very expensive for cakes etc as hubby said it was over £12, drinks cost £7.70, shortbread was over £4 for a normal size slice. Won't be back.

Good in places We visited when it was quiete, it’s really nice inside and to be fair we have been in before. I was so disappointed, service good, staff friendly. Food came quickly, and that’s when it went a bit below par. Soup I’m sure was couple tins of Tomatoes blended with a bit basil put in, we had half and half, so got a sandwich, Well we got 2 slices of bread, between us, one with ham and tomato other with Tuna , bread was definetly not from that day, was a bit stale and tuna was dark, strange, so we were a bit disappointed, 2 teas, no problem, So maybe next time we will give it a miss, it’s very busy in the summer, it’s a really nice cafe, just this time for us was not so good

Slightly quirky but the food is really nice. Especially my guilty portion of chips – the best I've had on a long while – irresistible. Classically English tearoom style all of its open, all good and somewhat stylish. No hesitation in recommending. And they're open in October, on a spectacularly drizzly day.

We recently had lunch here as we'd gone for a Sunday afternoon stroll and there weren't many options of places to eat. We had a cheese sandwich, a tuna sandwich, a flat white coffee and a bottle of water and it totalled £28!!!! The food was very mediocre and to be honest, it felt like they had charged the highest prices for the minimum offerings.

Called with my wife for a mid-morning snack as we've eaten there in the past and always found the food to be OK, but on this occasion we found the food to be very basic and overpriced, when I went to order our food I was asked to pay by cash, the owner was moaning about bank charges if I was asked to pay by card. Not sure if we will eat there again in the future

I mean, the building & interior are lovely. Light, airy, comfy seats. Kind of a shame the food was absolutely grim. Also, it was clean & everything, but the tables were so sticky that the very basic menu (mainly kids food & chips) stuck to the table. The special was the classic bacon, brie & cranberry panini I must have had everywhere. It was £15? Thought "hey it might be nice." It was not. The bacon was overcooked, very shrivelled & tasted odd. A waitress got the chef & she explained it was smoked. Which didn't explain the overcooking, or the shrivelled-ness. Avoid.

Looks lovely from outside & is certainly a lovely place inside But…the menu is quite pricey for what you get Breakfast ok, sausage was chewy & overcooked & my egg was crispy around the edge & yolk wasn’t runny Panini was ok though the filling was a bit sloppy & the kids meals were dry, no beans with the overcooked chips Had a tea & a coffee with the smallest amount of milk & we had to ask for sugar, but at least the kids got a drink & cookie with their lunches Wife had a cake & for nearly a fiver it was dry & came with squirty cream, no option of pouring cream or ice cream, I had caramel shortbread which was ok. You could tell they weren’t homemade even though we were told they were They had kids for waiting staff who I felt sorry for as someone was shouting at them from within the kitchen & ringing a bell like it was going out of fashion We weren’t impressed by the lady who was quite sweary behind the counter either, who seemed to be giving them a bit of a rough ride too She could have done with getting them to clean up better as under our table was full of food when we were seated All in all if we come back to Silloth we’ll try somewhere else for lunch

Went in with my daughter for a quick b'fast. Nicely greeted, lovely interior and shown to a nice table. Counter service, (which for the price you would expect table, but ok). Went to the counter and greeted by an intimidating matriarch who sat at the till taking the orders. 1 Coke, 1 Latte and a Childrens Sausage on Toast...£15.00 - you have got to be joking. On arrival, Coffee was drab and Sausage on Toast, cheap supermarket bread and Margarine...for that price I would have expected Artisan Bread and decent Butter. Someone else said, Little Gem...I don't think so!

Possibly one of my worst decisions going in here for lunch, looks ok from outside but left feeling robbed having to pay £9.95 for a small soup that tasted like chopped tomatoes out of a tin and two slices of the thinnest bread possible with some grayish pink looking tuna and one lettuce leaf and half a tomato posing as a salad and no crisps as advertised. When asked if ok darent say no, not a very nice experience and I felt sick all the way home. I'm sure the cakes are lovely but I won't be going back ever.

The sausage wasn’t cooked, actually freezing and I didn’t dare tell the lady in fear she might bring me another- it was gross. The breakfast is well over priced £10.95 and it wouldn’t feed a ten year old. The place has lots of personality, it’s a shame the people who run it don’t. So rigid and not welcoming. Definitely won’t be back - I was looking forward to coming but honestly it’s left an actual bad taste in my mouth from the dirty cooking facilities it was cooked in.

We called here on an Easter weekend away celebrating a family birthday. Weather was good so we sat outside. I went in to order and was asked if the table needed cleaning and someone went straight out to do it as I placed our order. Hot drinks were perfect, beautiful scone with jam and large slice of Victoria sponge, soup was tasty and the chips were excellent. Everything brought to the table really quickly- even though it was busy. I went back in with a tip before we left and they were really surprised and grateful. We'd go back if we're in the area.

What an absolute hidden Gem. We went in here for hot drinks only, but after absorbing the interior decor, the extremely welcoming and friendly staff, my hands were tied and we had to further indulge. BRUNCH! A hot dog and chips kids menu, a tuna and cheese, jalapeño on bloomer bread with sides and a hot chocolate deluxe, the Mrs had a scone and a tea. We were actually baffled as to why we hadn’t been before as we have been to Siloth at leat 5 times. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone who’s in the area. Licensed bar, food for all. Chilled retro atmosphere and worth it even for only a picture of the inside. First time today. Will certainly be back !!! Food was delicious. Could have sat there all day.

Absolute rip off! Flat white… my ar**! Obviously not barista trained or they would know how it’s supposed to be made. Carrot cake bought from Costco for £11 ( I4 slices) selling for £4.50 a slice!!! Scone was served warm, I wasn’t given the option and the jam and cream barely covered one half of the scone. Vastly overpriced for poor quality. And the waitress started removing plates whilst I was still drinking my coffee despite us only being there for 10 minutes! First and last time…
