After noon tea ... absolutely disgusted with the lack of attention to customer service and courtesy.Booked our table for 4 people .Wasn't ready when we arrived ..not offered any chance of a drink .Taken to sit at a table only big enough for two people but had to fit all four of us . afternoon tea was inedible as jam pots and marmalade pots had already been opened and used else where with evidence of half filled pots mixed with butter from a knife (presumably) and the cream for the scones had already been used with scoops in it from a used spoon ..There was not enough sandwiches and cakes for two people never mind four ..... On requesting a word with the manager we were told this was not possible as there wasn't a manager on site ..... Refusing to believe this we. Insisted someone came to us .... Eventually we showed the second in charge (presumably again).he looked and disappeared never to be seen again ,!! Needless to say we didn't eat any of the sandwiches as they looked liked they had been passed from what was left over and we also did not Pay ......Advising the staff that we would be adding this to trip advisor and also afew. Other people behind us in the place ......This also needs reporting to the local health and hygiene dept one of my friends will also be adding to this with photos ... ...

Me and my mum booked to eat here following our spa experience, and it completely ruined our whole day and our consequent plans after visiting here too! The staff were clearly left on their own with no support from supervision, as we could see the manager dipping in and out of the restaurant for a matter of seconds at a time, once or twice throuhgout our stay. When another table asked to speak to him, they were advised to write their concerns down on the waitresses note pad and this would be passed to him! Clearly there was no control, responsibility or apology. Absolutely appalling, not only on guests but on his staff too taking on board all the complaints. We were seated at around 14.30 and our glass of complimentary prosecco was brought over, half a glass each which I thought was extremely cheeky, given the prices we had paid. Our order was taken promptly and by 15.15 we requested how much longer our starters were going to be. The waitress said she'd check, but never returned with an answer, this was a common theme throughout our time at Fred's and the same for other diners. At 15.35 we asked again where our food was. We were told 2 mins. At 15.43 (by this point I was checking the time continuously as our "lunch" which was originally booked for 13.45 [another mishap of our booking through no fault of our own]) was now being served to us 2 hours later. However we were presented with our mains. We sent these back and requested our starters, again. These arrived, my hummous and flatbread consisted of a plate of hummous with 4 rock solid pieces of 1inch squared flat bread pieces. These were almost inedible however eating lunch at almost 1600, I was starving. We asked the waitress if our chicken and rice mains would be cooked fresh as we were very concerned about reheated food causing us food poisoning. We were assured they would be. Our mains were served to us at around 16.30. My risotto had lumps of clumped up risotto, so how the website describes this restaurant as being run by talented chefs and quality food, this certainly was not it. When we came to order desert, we queried what the chocolate one was, the waitress could not offer any further information on what it was as apparently this was a new menu and she hadn't been informed what all the courses were. Where was the supervision and correct training to ensure -not even a quality- but basic dining experience? This course, we presumed was a mousse however the slop served to us was highly off-putting. It was an almost liquid consistency with bits in it, the texture was absolutely vile. The waitresses were calm and dealt with the numerous complaints from the 3 tables sat in the restaurant in a dignified manner. The purpose of this review is not about the waiting on staff. It is completely down to management how the dining room was ran on 18th May 2024. Excuses were used such as busi-ness of the restaurant however as already stated there were approximately 3 tables, after the 4th one left due to being served use jam and cream from previous diners!! We asked what the problem was to try and understand the issue but the waitresses did not know. We finally left the restaurant at 17:00 which had a huge negative impact on the fact we had dinner reservations -thankfully elsewhere - at 19:00. I look forward to hearing back with hopefully an explanation of what went wrong on this day as this surely cannot be the normal service which Fred's offers. Me and my mum after planning this whole day together and being so excited for it and spending hundreds of pounds to enjoy it are so thoroughly disappointed it's totally unacceptable.

Our afternoon tea was appalling ! Hotel had run out of Jam! We were served used little hampers that had been opened , half full and other peoples butter in . Gross- sandwiches for 4 not enough for 2 ! Service appalling! Booked afternoon tea for 14.30 - food eventually arrived at 3.45pm! Not enough to fill a sparrow - second hand jam gave us worries about the sandwiches , where they second hand too! Service appalling! Staff disappearing! All customers complaining!

We had booked a table following the spa for a birthday meal. Unfortunately the service was slow even though the restaurant was quiet, we didn’t have a drinks menu and we weren’t offered water, even though a table of eight coming in after us were served immediately. There was only one vegetarian option available on the menu, when these days many people don’t like to have to eat meat. Where is imagination and thought in the menu? We decided to leave without eating!!

No vanillla syrup available for one of our coffees, no sweeteners available for another, no skinny fries could be cooked only chunky chips, no anchovies available for our Caesar salad which was just lettuce, chicken and a meagre portion of dressing and flat tasteless “croutons” All of which we only found out when actually being served each item !. Disappointing visit with slow service all round. Won’t be coming back to eat !

We waited and waited and waited a bit more for our (very simple) lunch! I could have driven home and cooked it myself in half the time. There were a lot of staff just standing around looking gormless, the food was on the pass for a full 10 minutes before it was brought to the table. The main was ok, but the desert (wedge of cheesecake promised) was just 3 small flat discs of very ordinary cheesecake that looked like it had been prepared in a silicone bun tray. Very disappointing, and the staff really need some training about customer service. Lucky the company at the table were fabulous!

Afternoon tea and was a poor experience. Service was non-existent, had to go to the bar where people were stood around in order to get a drink and pay the bill (basically any service) - not once in two hours did anyone come over and ask about anything. No table was cleared in the same time, with overflowing dirty plates/food on nearby tables and glasses at the bar. Food was unfortunately strictly average for a top hotel and venue. As other reviews have said ‘disappointing’, because some simple training in front of house would solve so much.

Booked evening dinner in advance for Mother’s Day - unfortunately restaurant was dark and dreary - cold - no ambience- no atmosphere- no “specials” for the day - menu was not the same as on website - less choice - food was bland - starters - opted for cheese soufflé - okayish - mains - sea bass - filet steak - very average- for the price - you would expect tasty - alas no - desserts - waffle with fruit compote - some fruit was still frozen - maple pecan brownie - avoid! Upside - the 3 members of staff on shift took our orders promptly - whereas another couple who were staying at the hotel had been waiting 30 mins to be served - once they complained about lack of service - the staff suddenly rushed to serve them quickly - Alas no substance here - Stanley House - this restaurant lets you down big time! Couldn’t wait to leave!!

Submitted by my wife and her friend who visited Mr Fred's recently. A big "thank you" to Cain for looking after us so well during our recent visit to Mr Fred's for an alternative to cream tea in the afternoon followed by an evening meal. Cain immediately made an impression on us for all the right reasons. He was professional, friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He is clearly passionate about working in hospitality and it shows. What an asset to the customer facing team at Stanley House. To the management team at Stanley House - we look forward to visiting Mr Fred's again when cream teas and afternoon teas are back on the menu.

Very disappointing experience. We went to celebrate 10 year wedding anniversary. Food was ok but service was really bad. Taken to our table but then waited 35 minutes before anyone came to see us for drinks or an order. After ordering we waited an hour for main course to arrive. After the meal we sat with dirty places in front of us for a good 20 minutes before we just left the table. There was also other tables around us with no guests and dirty plates left on table.

We visited here at the end of August to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We got married at Stanley House last year and thought it would be special to return. However, we were very underwhelmed. For starters, my partner had the scallops and I had the cheese soufflé which was abit cold in the centre. My partner wanted to order a side of the Polenta Fries but we were told they didn't have any. Main meals were okay, and for pudding my partner had the Chocolate Ganache (he asked for the baked peaches first, but was again told they didn't have any), and I had the pistachio cannoli. I was really disappointed with the dessert and you couldn't taste pistachio, but rather more an almond flavour and then the overpowering berry sauce. It was a Sunday evening and was not very busy, yet we had to wait a while to order food and for our plates to be taken away. The food together with two lemonades and two ciders came to £100 which was very steep for the average food. We wont be returning

Been here many times and always been happy but this time found standards deteriorated. My daughter and I had same meals. Chicken Milanese for starter was simply breaded chicken nuggets with bit of artichoke and some rocket leaves, dry, not very appetising for £9. Main was fish stew which turned out to be few chunks of fish and some prawns with gnocchi in tomato soup! Bland, boring, left half of it, expected more for £18!! So £54 for 2 very average plates plus 2 glasses wine came to £75. Will not be returning. Mentioned disappointment to waitress who said she would inform chef but no response from anyone. Service and staff were fine, but would not recommend at these prices.

As a party of 4, we recently visited Mr Fred's for Sunday lunch. The food was really nice, plentiful with great flavours and the setting is gorgeous. Sadly, what let it down was the service. The waitress that took the order was great & experienced, unfortunately the waitresses that delivered the food were inexperienced and clearly lacked service training. A small detail but would would give 5* if this was addressed.

We booked a visit for a night away and had a meal in the bar. It's difficult to really call it a bar as the bar area is very small. The lounge was comfortable however it was also quite cold as all the internal doors are left open and you get a cool breeze blowing through. The wife kept her coat on promoting the decision to take our drinks to our room where it was warm. The bar has no atmosphere at all and is clearly better geared to be used for wedding drinks. I was looking forward to the meal and the menu had lots to choose from. My wife went for a starter of baked muscles. On arrival they were served in a sort of iron oven dish they were baked after all. The lid was removed by hand and the dish was cold, they had unlikely seen the oven. I will say for a starter there was a good portion. The quality of the muscles seemed questionable the chef had failed to remove any unopened ones and the prep was lacking a little as a few were gritty. The meat also seemed a little stringy on a few. The sauce reminded me of minestrone soup. Leads me to think either they are frozen in a bag or it was in fact a bit of minestrone soup with some muscles lobbed in. The bread was good and thoroughly enjoyed. Moving on to the mains. I ordered the lemon chicken and rice. I don't usually make any comment on price however you would not get change from twenty pounds. The dish was a nice portion size however I just could not see any quality at all. Three chicken thighs and a very bland rice. The chicken was nicely cooked with caramelized lemon glaze however it was tiny literally three mouth full of meat. The rice was something else, it was overcooked and very very bland. If I didn't know better I would swear it was an supermarkets own savoury rice with a few fresh bits thrown in. The poor quality of this dish really did surprise me. I could reproduce the exact same dish in 15 or 20 mins at home and could guarantee more flavour. Also would cost no more than two quid, that's being generous. My wife ordered chicken ballotine, the kitchen was great and allowed her to sub the creamy potato for sweet fries and the portion of fries was generous. The chicken through was again very tiny. I think she got about five or six mouth full at best. The dish was tasty though and that's key. On the whole the experience didn't leave us wanting more. We were full mainly because of a side portion of halloumi fries, I have to say we're lovely. Fish finger size bits of halloumi with a crisp crumb coating one of the best I have tasted. It's also worth mentioning the staff. They seemed quite friendly and happy to help. Simple things like un-ironed shirts do get noticed though. I also thought it a little odd that on ordering water the first glass was not poured and I noted the same for some of the screw top wines. Just plonked at the table for the guest to sort out. Something I just couldn't understand this is trying to be an upper market bar but again these tiny details all go back to quality, the simple touches make the difference. The wine I ordered was just short of fifty pounds and at that price I would expect to taste the wine before the glass is filled again that didn't happen. All in all I would visit again if we are in the area but would be very careful what I choose from the menu.

Went with my parents to Mr Fred’s they were paying for the meal as I’d done some work for them a few weeks ago. On arrival we were shown straight to our table which was a good start, coats were taken, menus passed out and drinks ordered, then we waited and waited and waited, now if I’d been on my own, I’d either have paid fir the drinks and left of at least hit up and complained but bring with my parents and not wanting to spoil anything I waited a bit longer. Eventually somebody took our order, my parents both had fish and chips, my partner had plaice and I had lamb suet pudding. The food was very good, I’m tempted to say it was worth the wait but no it wasn’t worth the wait we had endured. Two puddings followed, both banoffee pie, I had a taste but the orangey flavour put me off, they both got polished off though. The coffees were very good, and the shortbread was excellent. I’m not sure about the bill my father had some vouchers which reduced it a bit but all seemed reasonable. All in all it was a very nice place, the loos would have scored 9.5/10 if we’d been scoring them but the long wait at the beginning sort of tainted the evening, I suspect though I’ll go back , maybe for a lunch.

Had squid starter , You do not need half a chopped chilli on top of rocket when the dessertspoonful of squid is in chilli dressing.... the teeny tiny fillet of sea bass was pathetic , and the gnocchi was over cooked and over spiced , drowning the flavour of the fish entirely. Sorbet and tiny meringues was a presentable dessert and the cheese board was great. Other guests were also underwhelmed . Doubt I would return .

Came here to celebrate my birthday with my family. I had never been here before and I found the setting to be lovely. We opted for the prosecco afternoon tea which also came with plenty of tea which was filled up repeatedly on request. The sandwiches are very traditional, egg & cress, ham, cheese &pickle;, cream cheese & cucumber and salmon, these were fine for us as a couple of us prefer the traditional fillings. The scones were lovely too, my only gripe was that the whole afternoon tea was very brown/beige, cakes were chocolate, frangepan , pecan and a beige rum and raisen panna cotta. They obviously don't think about how it would all look when presented to the customer, even a few raspberries or strawberries would have added a bit of colour for a bleak cold January afternoon. But it won't stop me from coming again as I did enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and not being rushed.

Our table was in the conservatory, which didn't have any blinds and no opening windows. It was a scorching hot sunny day and we were absolutely dripping. A traditional, light scone with jam and cream was accompanied by strawberry mousse in a shot glass and cakes such as mini raspberry meringue, bake well cake and others. We did have to ask for additional tea and coffee, all of which was a bit on the weak side, but this didn’t detract from the beautiful traditional afternoon tea. We used a MR Fred’s voucher, which made it excellent value as well as quality. The service too was efficient and friendly and we were able to take out leftover cakes home! We will certainly be back!

When I suggested going here my wife thought it would be expencive. A quick look at the menu -downloaded- showed her it wasn't bad. Yes it's a bit more than the average pub restaurant but it was worth it. Good service and great food. Mains well priced, I think the profit is in the deserts and drinks. Would go again

Lovely food, reasonably priced. I had the sea bass with and extra of creamed spinach and cheese and biscuits for dessert. My partner had the roast beef sandwich which came with coleslaw, a side of crisps and a generous side salad. That would have been enough for someone that eats coleslaw or salads but he had an extra side of chips instead. He had ice cream for dessert which came with the balls of ice cream on a fancy and tasty wafer. We will definitely be back.

Firstly I must mention the staff who are friendly and helpful, especially the young man who helped mum be comfortable getting from her wheelchair into a seat. We decided on the prosecco afternoon tea and were served a 125ml glass with a strawberry on the rim. There was a lovely array of dainty sandwiches, including ham, Lancashire cheese etc. A fruit scone with jam and cream followed. A rhubarb and ginger crumble, banana custard, treacle tart, orange and white chocolate dessert and finally a date and pecan cake completed this delightful afternoon tea, We ended up taking a lot of the cakes home with us, A really lovely experience.

We arrived early evening and the staff were lovely. They didn't rush our food but we weren't in a rush so we didn't feel we waited too long. The kids meal was a bargain, but I have to be honest even though the main meals where fresh and perfectly cooked, in my experience they were overpriced for the quantity provided. The deserts were delicious and unique. But the £9 price tag of the tiny cheese board again let Mr Freds down. I guess people are happy to pay extra for the venue/location.

First time eating here and tried the steak which was ok but slightly overcooked. Plus there was fat on it which should of been taken off prior to cooking. The peppercorn sauce was very watery. The rest of the food was very nice and the staff lovely. I have to feel sorry for the young girls who were bringing the food to the tables they looked like they were going to drop the plates before almost throwing them onto the tables as they were so hot. I would deff try here again

I booked a table here for my partner and I on New Years Eve as I'd heard good things from several different people prior. I booked the reservation online and within two minutes, it was confirmed. I also got two reminders up to the time of the booking which is great for someone that forgets!

We visited for lunch, just before Christmas. There were 4 of us and the main courses were very nice, only let down by slightly soggy chips with one meal and an overcooked dry burger with another meal. However, the sausage and mash was delicious and the fish pie was sublime. The service was excellent, with very friendly young staff. The atmosphere was super and felt very festive in a very classy way.

My friend and I went to the Stanley House for a spa day. Part of this included afternoon tea. We arrived at Mr Freds and were shown to our table and brought a glass of prosecco. 40 minutes later we watched them bring other guests, who had only just arrived their trays. I went to the bar and enquired where our food was and after a small apology the food was then brought out within a few minutes. I ordered a gin and tonic whilst I was waiting and a lad poured it into a tumbler before another waitress said it was not correct. The gin and tonic was brought to my table now correctly in a crystal gin glass. The afternoon tea was pleasant although one of the sandwiches were a little like it had been stood for a couple of hours so the bread had started to go hard. They wrapped the remaining cakes for us and I asked for the bill. A gentleman came over and said they would pick up the bill for the gin because of the wait. I was satisfied with this until on my way out I was chased by a young waitress who said in the middle of the entrance hall, "you haven't settled your bill". Very humiliating. I corrected her and she left. I felt the whole experience was below my expectations and was disappointed.

Had fab afternoon tea here after a relaxing afternoon in the spa slightly disappointed that the savoury items have been removed from the afternoon tea we enjoyed here last time ,which I thought set it above other similar places, but what we ate was delicious.

Visited yesterday for lunch with my wife and had a nice time. I had the sausage and mash which was tasty, my wife had the battered haddock which was a little bland if I’m honest but the chips were delicious. Deserts were the star of the show, I had the chocolate nemesis which was spectacularly tasty. Service was excellent as always at Stanley House. If the fish had been tastier, I’d have given five stars.

Visited for a family meal. Not as good as previous visits. Hubby and Father in law had the same starter, but one dish had no chilli in it (was supposed to). Mains were pleasant enough but even with the discount offer off the food, we felt we would have had a better meal all round at our local hotel/restaurant in Darwen (AB).

A group of seven friends! Food was really good but very very poor service! Wedding reception on this evening, restaurant not very full but service leads a lot to be desired! When the waiter returns to our table he is attentive but when is the best phrase!!! Little things let them down! Plates from main courses cleared all but one! Empty glasses on table for at least 15/20 mins, only us and two other tables in restaurant! We finished our puddings twenty minutes ago and plates still not cleared! Mr Fred's let themselves down big time tonight!!! No tips and we will be lucky if we see a waiter before the taxi is due in 45 mins!!!

Good food but awful service. The restaurant was largely empty but the service was terrible. Plates and glasses were not cleared, orders were so slow to be taken. When we complained we were advised they had two weddings on - so my advice to anyone is avoid dining here at the weekend / when weddings are on. It was that bad we won't be coming again, despite the quality of the food.

Always enjoy dining here. Relaxed atmosphere with exceptional staff and the food never disappoints. My friend ordered a wine and it was too dry so the waitress changed it with no fuss. Lots of people believe the menu to be overpriced here by I say you get what you pay for and who can complain with a 20% voucher always available on the website! Will be returning again soon!

Had a nice family meal here. We didn't have starters as we started eating quite late. It took a little too long for our meals to arrive which was surprising given the number of people in the restaurant. The food did not disappoint. I had lamb breast with mashed potatoes which was very nice. For dessert I had a blueberry dish based on a good pannacotta with variation of blueberries presented nicely. The service was good and attentive without being overbearing. The meal was reasonably priced having regard to the surroundings. Will visit again.

Four of us ate here during our stay at the hotel. The food was great and the outlook/view makes it a great location. Although we all enjoyed it one of the waiters was somewhat full of himself and this was getting a bit much as the night went on. Good food though and if we stayed at the hotel again we would probably eat there. Three of us had the cod and would certainly recommend that dish.

This place has always been a regular joint for us and seems to get busier each time, mainly due to business customers we believe. In the past i would have given it 7/10 but recently we have noticed the food and especially the service getting better. The manager (think its matt) and the 3 of 4 waitresses gave exceptional service tonight, add that to the 20% off vouchers available on the website and i really cant think of anywhere better in the area. We are already regulars but i had to write a quick review as it is clear a real effort is being made... also to note is the delightful lounge area, great for an after meal coffee.. 9/10

I regularly visit this informal hotel bar/restaurant for catch-ups with a friend. There is comfy seating adjacent to the windowed restaurant with a small but nicely stocked bar. There is no rush to be seated and as we usually go round 18.30, it is usually quiet; however, being a hotel, we usually make a reservation in the event the hotel is busy.Their menu accommodates most tastes I feel and there are vegetarian options. If not feeling that hungry, there is no problem ordering just a starter or snack. A nice selection of wines is also available, by the glass as well as bottle. The outlook is over a garden with fountain and rooms.Service is friendly and any problems are professionally handled. On one occasion there was a delay with our food and without any prompting, we were offered our drinks for free by way of an apology.I love their chicken Caesar Salad amongst other things! Produce is locally sourced wherever possible.Whilst on the outskirts of the town centre, it is a lovely and relaxing venue amidst countryside that makes one forget the close proximity. If not driving, taxis can be used; or one could simply stay a night!

After telephoning main reception 3 times and being transferred to the restaurant without them picking up we finally got a table booked. On arrival we were looking forward to a nice lunch in quite beautiful surroundings. To start ordered a pea and mint soup and goats cheese mouse with pickled vegetables. The soup arrived and was clearly not pea and mint, called the waiter over who said that's pea and mint but I will go and check. came back with its actually onion soup, I'm sorry we will change it, When the pea and mint soup arrived it was actually good soup. My starter of goats cheese mouse was bland and completely overpowered by the pickled vegetables. The mains of fish, chips and mushy peas were disappointing, the fish was quite acrid in taste and the batter bland. Chips were ok. The soup was knocked off the bill but the fish and chips at £13.50 is over priced. The young waiter (male) was very professional but should have spotted the soup miss ap. Would not recommend or return.

Mr Fred's is part of a very sleek looking Stanley House setup and was able to accommodate our party of 10 very well. We had a chunk of territory so that we could easily mingle and talk while having pre-dinner drinks and it was easy for people to order on the same tab. Drinks were served quickly and , when we sat down to dinner, the service was equally fast and efficient, particularly when considering the number and variety of different dishes ordered. Everybody enjoyed their food and the whole event was very reasonably priced. Thank you Mr. Fred's for giving us a very enjoyable evening.

Thought we would revisit after an absence of a couple of years.we had not booked but there were loads of tables available but the receptionist said she would check to see if they could 'fit us in' The food on the whole was very nice( could have been hotter), but to say they were not exactly rushed off their feet is an understatement. The service was sooo slow.! We also asked at the start of the meal if we could have a jug of tap water. Well we had to ask again when we could catch the sight of a waiter/ waitress. The feeling about this establishment now is that they want large party bookings e.g. Weddings and unfortunately normal diners have to to take a back seat. We won't be visiting again.

We were on a two day offer that included £30 per head towards food at Mr Freds. Having checked the menu and some previous reports we were a bit apprehensive. However whilst it is not fine dining we were pleasantly surprised and decided to eat there on the second night of our stay also. It can be noisy given the hard wall and floor finishes (cork pads on the bottoms of the chair legs might help) and there were two large parties of 10 or so which didn't help. However our waiter Ellis moved us outside without any fuss which was much appreciated.

The food was very good and the standard of service high, but when two drinks and two fish and chips come to fifty pounds, you expect the ambience to be better than rock fm playing in the background with adverts every twenty minutes. Not exactly the relaxing experience you expect when paying so much and in such nice surroundings. Plus two shots of Campari and lemonade at £9.50 seemed ridiculous.

First time I have had an evening meal and the experience was abject. Across the corridor a party was in full swing and the noise was very unpleasant so this was not a relaxing visit to Mr Fred's. Considering the relatively few numbers, service was sloppy (presented with a damaged glass) and slow. The "artisan" bread consisted of some ready bake buns with a bowl of olive oil and balsamic - rip off for £3.50. The battered king prawns (£7.50) starter with chilli marmalade was hot but devoid of flavour. Main course of battered Whitby haddock (£13.50) was a miserable fillet so the saviour was the bowl of proper mushy peas. With deafening noise unabated, I fled for the safety of my room hoping that breakfast would be better. This was not a night to remember !

My mum and boyfriend took me and my boyfriend here for Afternoon Tea for my birthday on 9th April. Upon arrival we were greeted by a waitress who got me a glass of prosecco (not complaining!!), but when we sat down, we were squashed to the next table to the point where we couldn't get out properly. Oh well I don't mind I could breathe in, but when the afternoon tea came, it had a (pretty awful) selection of cucumber, cheese and egg sandwiches. Spotted a bit of coronation chicken so I went straight for that but it was really soggy like it had been sat out for ages. The cakes/tarts were tasteless and I just wasn't impressed. When we asked for our tea cause we had obviously turned up for afternoon tea...tea in the afternoon... the waitress said sorry we've run out of teapots so will have to wait for the next table to finish with theirs!! Honestly not one to complain, if anything I only write reviews for restaurants/hotels I love because I know how quick people are to complain, but this was so disappointing for my birthday. £25 a head for some cucumber sandwiches and cakes that I could have picked up in Asda for £2.99. Prosecco was decent though, should have had a few more glasses then I might have enjoyed the lunch more! Anyway, on the plus side- the hotel looks really nice and the waitress was apologetic about our tea. Also, I got an Indian a couple of hours later and that was delicious.

Ordered sandwiches and waited 25 minutes for slightly stale bread, in fact the worst and smallest sandwich all four of us have had in a long time. One round of bread cut into tiny quarters with a bit of lettuce and tiny pot of coleslaw with about four crisps in a pot. On paying the bill I was informed there was a large event on and they were sorry for the wait. I think as I hadn't booked but called on spec it would of been much better to say there was no available table than to put a round of what seemed like leftover buffet sandwiches on a plate for us. Very poor lunch experience.

Booked a table with a freind and was sorely disappointed - We had the Caesar Salad which was mediocre to say the least - There was nothing on the dessert menu to entice us so we passed on this. The staff may as well not have been on duty for all the attention showed. All in all, we will not be calling here again. we found it to be overrated, overpriced and somewhat pretentious. I visited the Pavillion cafe on Sunday for some lunch. I have a severe nut allergy (anaphylaxis) and therfore made the server aware when ordering our food. I asked for the fish and chips and she seemed very unsure so went to check with the kitchen which was good. After making me aware that nuts were used in the kitchen however were not used in any of the fryers I decided to go ahead with the order. However, before our food arrived she came back over to ask if I had my epipen on me which obviously made me feel very uncomfortable and unsafe eating there. Therefore, when the food arrived I didn’t feel safe to eat it and had to give it to my partner. As an allergy sufferer I was very disappointed in the handling of the situation as every restaurant/cafe I have visited in recent years have been very educated on allergies and have been very reassuring and taken it seriously: checking if anyone has any allergies on ordering, providing ingredient lists and making staff aware which meals need to be prepared with more care etc. I am only writing this review in the hope that staff here become better trained on how to handle customers with allergies as I feel they were not at the standard they should be. I do not want to but a negative view on the cafe as the food looked lovely and my partner did enjoy the food.
