Mr english fish and chips in Wigan

Ordered 2 fish. Had to throw them away. Tasted worse than they smelled. Must have been old stock (a Tuesday). Chips were very greasy too.

Haven’t been here in a while , so excited when we decided on a chippy tea. What a soggy mess . The chips were inedible , bad , some burnt some almost raw and some chewy . Fish wasn’t that good either . So dissatisfied . Should have just thrown the £16 straight in the bin where the 2 meals are now !

Excellent food we will certainly visit again soon, the service was great, tables clean. You can park at the front or around the back. There is wide varied menu, definitely going again!

I go here about once or twice a week usually for a takeaway, I love the fish and my wife will not have fish from any other chippy, the staff are pleasant and friendly, had fish today and as usual it was great.

Here at lunchtime, today. I remember this chippy from 5 years ago, when it was the BEST.... sadly it is now POOR. COLD Soggy fish, soggy greasy chips , I asked for peas as well and they were thrown over the chips... looked like a cow had been loose in a field. NEVER again...the fish didn’t even taste like cod. The embarrassing thing was I had invited a Friend, because I was so confident of their previous Greatness ! !

I use this chippy I use for an eat in dinner once a week I have NEVER had a bad meal very competitive prices spotless clean very clean toilets however deep step to access not wheelchair friendly. I find it amusing it is called MR ENGLISH as both the men who work there are POLISH I think.

Must be the best chippy in wigan. Very clean. Friendly staff. Eat in or take away. Would recommend to anyone.

The fish are always well cooked with crispy batter and usually hot. The chips are a little hit and miss, sometimes perfect, sometimes hot but over cooked, sometimes soggy with grease. The chop suey rolls are usually hot but also soggy with grease.

Went here last night 27/12/18 for tea with my dad & his wife. I had chips cheese & gravy & a cheeseburger the burger was cooked perfect not burnt chips tasted fresh unlike most other chippy were you know the chips are frozen these chips were fresh & cooked nice. Can't wait to go back I really enjoyed this chippy. Hope this helps people looking for a nice chippy in northwest near Wigan

Consistantly good chip shop, we always ask for a fresh fish to be cooked, which they always do without complaining. The girls in there look after you and are always friendly towards customers, even the awkward ones like my other half with large lided trays & over use of vinegar.

We have been to Mr English on many occasions and have never been disappointed. Excellent chips, fish and sausages alongside a choice of curry sauces. Portions are very generous and prices are very competitive.

Ate in and the fish, chips and mushy peas are top notch. Crispy batter on soft white cod. Crispy chips and a generous portion of tasty mushy peas, all for £7 including a drink. Great value, service and food.

Always good food and prices reasonable. Staff very friendly and helpful. You can sit in or take away.. bit hot in warm weather.. but overall recommended x

We visit Mr English Takeaway regularly for a chippy tea. Usually couple of times a month. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is always served hot and quickly. Queues disappear quickly when busy. We have also eaten in, the cafe area is always clean and tables cleared and wiped down quickly. Well worth a visit.

Quick service and very reasonable prices. Sausage and chips. Not much more to say really. Freshly cooked so nice and hot

Only had chips for lunch, they were neither outstanding or poor. Place very clean and I must say the fish looked very good, both large& nice dry batter . Went for lunch for our stores and prices very keen.

The fish is always delicious and has a light batter that melts in the mouth. The portions are generous. The eat in facilities are excellent.

Recordé que las damas vestían ni net sirve o sombreros de pelo que seguramente es imprescindible al tratar con comida

Chips and fish really nice and freshly cooked it was busy but the wait wasn't long. The partners are from Cyprus related to Terry who has 2 chip shops in Haydock and several more around, be good if he cooked his fish like his relatives

Un gran tradicional inglesa que, de hecho, ofrece una mayor variedad de comida. Personal amable, ambiente agradable y precios razonables. He estado yendo allí durante años. Nunca he tenido ninguna queja ofertas de comida. Sin duda vale la pena probarlo si estás en la zona.

Ir cuando no está vacía y el pescado y patatas fritas son los mejores en Wigan. Consistentemente bueno durante los últimos años, y siempre ir a pescar de enemigos de lugar y patatas fritas. Hay una zona para sentarse los visitantes que quieren sentarse y comer. Vale la pena una visita, si os gusta el pescado y patatas fritas

Gorgeous. Just needed something hot, quick and tasty and we got all 3. Asked for tarter sauce and although no satchets were available we were given a jar quarter full to take away. Super service.

Went this evening for a family tea. 1st got order wrong and had to go back to get the rest of order. Then I had donner kebab and the meat was like leather and very hard. Rung them up to tell them and was told it was because I had to go back the chippy so it had gone. It was still wrapped up was only left for 20mins. So it was my fault order was wrong and meat was like leather and hard. Even the dog didnt eat it. Will not be visiting again

Went here for tea, and very glad i did. There aren't enough sit down chippies around, but this one fits the bill. Great food and good prices. Very clean with courteous staff. The chips were just right, as was the fish which had light batter rather than hard, crunchy batter which a lot of places do now. Pity it is out of the way but should be visited!

This place is very good at what it does, A classic "chippy". The food is good, their fish are big and the place is very clean. Often during the busy periods, the fish is already fried and their is no "order fish when you arrive" and then wait for it to be cooked. The staff are always very pleasant and welcoming and the prices are reasonable. Open all day and on Sunday too. Great service, great food, keep it up.

I live local to this chippy and I have not once had a nice meal from here, cannot believe this is actually on TripAdvisor as it definitely is not a restaurant, it is just a greasy chippy. Avoid!

Always freshly cooked and cooked thoroughly. Great value for money, that`s why we`re regulars. The staff are always friendly.
